GOP Rep Blames Deep State For Dr. Stabby’s Dining Set

The Huffington Post reports:

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) made yet another unfounded claim on Wednesday while speaking about Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson’s spending.

The lawmaker was talking to a New York radio station when she blamed the “deep state” for a $31,000 dining set that Carson’s wife apparently ordered for his office. Tenney told the “Talk of the Town” hosts that she spoke to someone from Carson’s office and that no one on his team had ordered the set.

“Somebody in the deep state ― it was not one of his people, apparently ― ordered a table, like a conference room table or whatever it was, for a room,” Tenney said. “And that’s what the cost was. Ben Carson tried to — he said, “You know how hard it is to turn it back because of the way that the procurement happens?”

This is the same insane loon who earlier this month declared that most mass shooters are Democrats and then screamed “fake news” at a reporter when asked to back up her claim.

    Meanwhile, Ben blamed his wife…

    • Tom Furgas

He’ll be sleeping on the couch for quite some time now.

    • Devon Rodriguez

Hmm…Let’s see, someone from the deep-state infiltrated Ben Carson’s team, then gave his wife Candy a furniture catalog and hypnotized her to make her select the $31K table. She may be on to something

Why the hell is his wife involved in purchases with our tax dollars?

      • thatotherjean

She shouldn’t have been, but this is the Trump era. Who knows?

    • BlueberriesForMe

Wife = Deep State. A balanced equation if I ever saw one.

  • Jon Trouten

What do you wanna bet that Carson will try taking the table with him when he eventually leaves this position?

Deep State is the new “Thanks, Obama!”

Shit on your shoe? Deep State.
Fly in your soup? Deep State.
Bought a 31K dining-room set and billed it to 80-year-olds on Medicare? The State is Deep.

    • Octoberfurst

You’re right! I never thought of that but it works! They don’t have Obama to blame for everything so now they have come up with the secretive “Deep State” to blame for anything that goes amiss. Mass shootings? Deep State! Economy faltering? Deep State! Stub your toe? Deep State! It’s perfect.

    • BlueberriesForMe

I wonder what the Shallow State is. That’s right – the level of “thinking” that goes on in the Drumpf arena.

      Surprise surprise.

As if any thinking American hasn’t already figured out that this entire Trump nightmare is one gigantic grift operating out of the White House.

    • Todd20036

Yup. Typical. Trump is a criminal. The entire GOP is complicit. Even the republicans who speak out a little bit (McCain, Ham Biscuits) eventually do nothing.

      • JackFknTwist

Yeah. The House of Trump is just a brand, solely focused on squeezing as much money as it can before it implodes.
Ivanka is just a two-bit huckster and as dumb as a brick.
Donald jr. is a whore, peddling his wares globally.
Jared is a slime ball of putrid proportions who has used classified briefings as a commodity to lever money from Saudi Arabia .

And while Rome burns the GOP, Ryan, McConnell and that cabal of fat , round faced, smug Tories fiddle.

Jesus, it makes my blood boil when I think of the damage to the environment being wrought for the benefit of the House of Trump.

    • Mr. James Parson

If only we could go back to the good old days

It was my fault. I hacked Ben’s e-mail. This was just to order the dining set to make him look stupid(er).

He threw his own wife under the bus.

        • Todd20036

This mirrors exactly what Hitler did. Instead of “Deep State” it was “Jews”, “Gypsies”, “Gays”, “Liberal”, etc. We should be scared. Most of us are.

I’ve heard that, at one time, black folks considered federal employment to be the most stable, fair opportunities that they could find. So, there’s a conventional wisdom here in the Baltimore area that, if you want a secure job, get a federal job. So, it could mean “black.” It could also mean “All those unnecessarily employed by the feds and chewing up our tax money unnecessarily.”

      • Rex

      • leo77

“Deep state” has become a catch all for anyone in government who won’t drink the Trump Kool-aid. Any whistle blower or any member of the law enforcement, the intelligence or the military communities, that question the scruples and actions of Trump et. al. are “deep state”. When you’ve convinced yourself that an elected leader is beyond accountability then anyone seeking accountability becomes the other.

      • jmax

I assume it refers to career Federal civil servants, especially those hired while the black guy was president, and who are now working against Trump – at least in the paranoid fantasy world he and his followers inhabit.

      • Hank

      State Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, D-Utica.
Claudia Tenney only won by 6 points.

      • Mike C

Yeah I saw that she there was a 3rd party candidate that pulled in a lot of votes, plus the the last republican ran unopposed. I’m going to send a donation and see if I can’t volunteer to canvass as some point. I have a lot of friends who work on campaigns for upstate NY.

  • She’s desperately flailing to get the deplorables to save her. Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball both rate her 2018 re-election as a tossup.

    • Reality.Bites

I believe all the forecasters are using usual patterns. The Alabama and Pennsylvania elections tell me that Trump has unprecedented negative coattails for a first-term president and that should the mood continue or worsen, seats like hers aren’t a toss-up – they’re dead certain Democratic Party pick-ups.

Gerrymandering is a huge factor, but bear in mind that Alabama is “gerrymandered by nature” – there’s a real, strong, Republican majority there.

And with the retirements and all, we’re going to see Republican candidates less qualified than Roy Moore.

  • Ninja0980

This woman is the rep in the district to the North of me and suffice to say, she has alienated a lot of people in the past year and a half.
She is literally one of the most endangered incumbents in NY, if not the most endangered thus she is doubling down on the crazy she already had.
With a solid Democratic candidate and (so far) no third party vote to split the vote like last time, she needs all the crazies on her side to come out and vote for her that she can.
If she can’t, she’ll be like my former teabagger Rep Ann Buerkle and be a one and done.

    • safari

I can’t tell if this relieves or worries me.

      • Ninja0980

The only worry I have is some folks don’t like the Democrat, Anthony Brindisi co-sponsoring legislation to toughen our drunk driving laws in this state (they are needed.)
Hopefully they will be a vocal few.

      • Reality.Bites

I really think that 2016 was their peak engagement in voting.

She won 44% of the vote to the Dem’s 39% and and indy or 3rd party at 13%

To be safe she’d have to have won the seat by over 20%.

        • Ninja0980

Sad to say but I had a feeling she was going to win due to the fact the third party guy was likely to take away more votes from the Democrat then the Republican, which he did.

  • another_steve

“Deep state” is the new right wing dog whistle.

When Trump’s base hears “deep state,” what they’re actually hearing is “nĭgger / faggot / spic / Democrat / commie.”

I hadn’t thought of it in quite that way.

        Great comment.

    • gustave courbet

I miss the days when only wonkish conspiracy researchers used the term “deep state.” Add it to the list of descriptors that has been denuded of meaning by its introduction to the mainstream- and then filled full of crazy by the American right.

Derived from two Greek words: Demos, meaning “People” and Kratos, meaning “Power.”

Richard Hanna was an actual moderate who supported LGBT and abortion rights.
Too bad some folks who vote for moderate R’s weren’t paying attention to that when voting for her.

      • Reality.Bites

I don’t think Richard Hanna would even try running this time if he still held the seat.

        • Ninja0980

He’s made it clear the reason he retired is because he is fed up with what the Republican Party has become, including NY where the moderates (we use to have them) are now going the way of Tenney and Trump and he wants no part of it going forward.

    A blast from the past.
Why I don’t buy the excuse of anyone who voted for her claiming to not know how extreme she was.
Yes, this district had moderate Republicans(when they still existed) who supported LGBT and abortion rights among other things.
Claudia had made it clear to anyone paying attention she was not of that mold in her two primary challenges to Richard Hanna, stating over and over again that Hanna *gasp* supporting same sex marriage means he wasn’t a true conservative.
Anthony Brindisi has a solid chance to beat her and the many moderate Republican/Indie voters she has alienated will certainly help with that.

  • There is no longer any need on the right to back up a statement with facts, evidence or reason of any kind. And if someone asks a question you just yell “fake news” and walk away to the cheers of the GOP base. Trump will not be removed from office. I know there are Trump voters who claim they regret their vote, but not that many of them and they are not likely primary voters.
