The Toledo Blade reports:
Self-described “Prophetess” Opal Covey, 76, filed signature petitions Friday to run for mayor in the Sept. 12 primary.
Ms. Covey, a Republican and a church minister, claimed Friday with no evidence that she was a victim of voter fraud, for which she blamed Democrats, in her previous runs for mayor. She has run for mayor in 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015.
“Democrats are planning to do whatever they can to keep me off the seat. But God is on the scene now. No one will be able to steal my votes this time,” her flyer says. In 2015, Ms. Covey of 2236 Broadway came in last of seven candidates with 544 votes out of 64,803 cast.
After her most recent loss, Covey declared that she would no longer stop God from destroying Toledo, as he told her he would if she was not elected.
“God has already told me if I wasn’t on that seat this time, that destruction is gonna come. And I’m standing back and I’m gonna let it happen.” (Tipped by JMG reader Sashine)
