MADDOW: DADT Victim Maj. Mike Almy Vs. “Deceptive” Sen. John McCain

Major Mike Almy, who was booted out of the armed services after the government snooped into his private email, appeared on Rachel Maddow last night to denounce Sen. John McCain as “deliberately deceptive” for denying to gay reporters that the military performs such investigations. Almy points out that McCain “sat twenty feet away from me” during Almy’s testimony about his …

Daily Ungrumble

Looking for some bright light in today’s darkness, over the last year we’ve all learned waaay more about how the federal government works than we probably ever got out of years of high school civics classes. I mean, come on, “cloture”?

In addition to preaching against homosexuality to his Atlanta mega-church, which seats 25,000, Long has appeared on national television to argue against same-sex marriage. The men’s attorney called Long …

“All Faggots Must Die”

The above comment was left today by “Jimmy” on my post about the DADT cloture vote. The IP address *appears* to resolve to the neighborhood of GOP U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ Atlanta office. The ISP is “United States Senate.” I’m confident that the JMG internet sleuths can get to the source. Here’s the IP: 156.33.20.72. Get busy, geeks! UPDATE: According …

DADT Cloture Vote Reactions

Stonewall Democrats “Senate Republicans have tragically blocked the National Defense Authorization Act because it contains language to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” showing themselves to be far outside of the American mainstream. Their actions today are just more obstructionism and willful disregard of what 8 in 10 Americans want. It is a sad the lengths the GOP will go to …

DADT Cloture Vote Fails In Senate 56-43

The cloture vote on DADT has failed 56-43 with zero Republicans voting “yes.” I’ll have the complete roll call in this post shortly. Knowing that cloture would fail, Sen. Harry Reid voted “no” too, so he’ll have the chance to reintroduce the bill. That bit of maneuvering was lost on GOProud. UPDATE: All Republicans voted “no.” Aside from Reid as …

NY Gov. Paterson Signs Law Allowing Joint Adoption by Unmarried Couples

Gov. David Paterson has signed a bill allowing all unmarried couples to jointly adopt in New York state. The measure signed by Gov. David Paterson also substitutes the gender-neutral term “married couple” in the adoption statute for “husband and wife.” According to sponsors, that partly codifies state appeals court rulings and clears up complications from joint adoption as a two-step …

Quote Of The Day – Kristin Davis

“Why should the only woman running for state office be excluded? The debate shouldn’t be a boys only club. Excluding blacks and women just because we lack access to huge special interest campaign contributions is just wrong. I favor letting all legal candidates debate. I earned my place on the ballot by filing over 22,000 valid voter signatures. I am …
