Tea Party Group Warns That “Thugs With Night Sticks” Will Try To Intimidate Republican Voters [VIDEO]

Miranda Blue reports at Right Wing Watch:

The Tea Party “election integrity” group True the Vote has been ramping up its efforts to send poll watchers to polling places in advance of the presidential election, fueled in part by Donald Trump’s frequent claims that the election will be “rigged” against him and his calls for supporters to monitor polls in large cities. (True the Vote has itself alleged that Hillary Clinton could “steal” the election.)

In a video posted online in September and sent to supporters today, True the Vote’s Catherine Engelbrecht gives an idea of what sort of things her group is instructing these poll watchers to look for. Promoting the group’s poll-watching app—which was a bust when it launched in the 2014 election—Engelbrecht said that poll watchers this year are sure to find issues such as rigged election machinery, “thugs with night sticks scaring people to keep them from voting” and “polling places [that] stay open for hours past official closing times in an effort to engineer the desired outcome.”

  • Michael Smith

You know it kills them that they have to say “Thugs” instead of the N word.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

But not if Hair Furor is elected!
      He’ll MAGA for gawd-luvin’ racists!

      • EweTaw

MAGA = Make America Gay Again?

        • Jerry

No, that’s only if RuPaul wins.

          • EweTaw
          • Jerry

I saw that story earlier today…thumbs up for gay uncles.

          • Bomer

As a gay uncle I approve of this statement! =P

          • Jerry

Sadly, I would have never been able to help the nephews much if they chose to go drag for Halloween. I helped with ties and suits, but no makeup or dresses.

          • Bomer

I did my youngest nephew’s Halloween make-up last year. If I remember right he went as a zombie. Neither of his parents could help him with the make-up so they drove 2 hours to my apartment so I could help him with it.

          • Jerry

I might be able to handle zombie or other scary makeup…just not realistic female makeup.

          • NMNative

            As a “Guncle” me too!

    • D. J.

She also meant Democratic Party voters will be gone after with sticks.

      • Steverino

        Yep. Right-wing projection, as usual.

    • Traxley Launderette

The white ladies shouldn’t go to the polls without an armed white male “chaperone” for protection.

      • cleos_mom

Only if their own gun is in the shop.

        • Traxley Launderette

          Only nasty women carry guns.

Everyone knows women are supposed to let the men handle things, like supporting the family, fixing the car, cutting the grass, disciplining the kids, and telling the little lady how to spend money and who to vote for.

          • cleos_mom

And if the little lady is running for President, she’ll really be just her husband’s or predecessor’s “third term.”

          • Traxley Launderette

            Related, sort of.

My cousin texted me today to inform me than an uncle on my dad’s side has died. He and my dad were both rivals and friends; my dad the liberal, and my uncle (my dad’s BIL) very conservative to the point of supporting Nixon even after Watergate. He insisted Nixon was framed.

My uncle alienated his kids, both of whom are older than me and came of age around 1970. Both of them rejected their parents’ strict, consumer-driven, suburban existence — we’re talking pink kitchen appliances, in-ground swimming pool, and an all-white living room hermetically sealed in plastic covers and carpet protectors — and found ways to go to college and escape that trap.

My dad tried to reason with this man for over 40 years, but my uncle refused to accept the fact that the world changed, that being an automotive clay modeler and draftsman wasn’t going to last forever. In the 1980s he learned this the hard way and was forced into early retirement. My uncle was incredibly racist, incredibly sexist, and incredibly homophobic. He hated Mexicans. He hated “Arabs.” He hated jews. He had a whole shed of axes to grind. He probably loved Donald Trump, but I have no way to know, since I haven’t seen him and my aunt in over 15 years. Neither of them attended my dad’s funeral two years ago because my dad’s other sister and her companion George would be there. This aunt found George after being twice widowed, and they shared a nice place together in Florida, not marrying for financial reasons, which constituted a mortal sin according to the other aunt and uncle. They cut them out and haven’t spoken to them in years.

I remember one summer, between semesters in college, when I was visiting my grandma at the family cottage on Black Lake in northern Michigan. He asked me what good was my education, why didn’t I just get a real job and quit wasting my time. I was old enough to look him in the eye and tell him that that was none of his business. He wasn’t too happy about that, and neither was my dad when he found out.

I was told that there would be no memorial, no funeral. I am relieved, but strangely saddened.

      • Kruhn

Anyone harassing my polling station will get such a punch in the head!

    • good shot green
    • DaveW

I use thug and never mean a specific race. I live near a white trash downtown area full of thugs. They are white and brown, not many black. It’s about behavior not ethnicity (and we need to drop racist unless you don’t like my disdain for cats. It’s bigoted to
Imply blacks are not human, i.e. A different race than whites)

Words matter. Thug is a color blind word and racist is a bigoted thing to accuse someone of. Different ethnicities are still the same race!

      • Sorry – your usage of a word does not negate ‘thug’ as a dog-whistle. Dog-whistles are pitched to be heard by a specific group in a specific way (hence the term ‘dog-whistle’).

        • cleos_mom

For the record it isn’t just “his usage.” The dictionary is your friend.

          • juanjo54

Context is always important and cleos_mom, he is discussing context. To the people this video is aimed, a “thug” is not some underprivileged Caucasian kid, it is a Black kid. Remember dear, text without context is pretext.

          • cleos_mom

Apparently you already knew it and I assume others on this blog know the various meanings of the term. None of us are as delicate as all that.

          • The reason I am trying to parse words is how completely differently ‘thug’ is used in the black community; the word usage is so completely different –
            (W) thug – scary person of color (though never stated that the thug is black)
            (B) thug – someone who started with nothing, overcame obstacles, and succeeded.

If GG was not sleeping on my lap, I would use the big Dic (OED) – besides, my copy is the condensed version (9 pages per page) – these eyes can barely read it even with one of those spring-loaded, lighted magnifying lenses. The full 20 volume set is only about $1,000; it is on my short list of ‘must haves’.

Just noodling around and look where I landed:
“Why do coworkers always ask what you ate for lunch? What kinda weak ass
office gossip is that? Yes my lunch was much better than yours, you
nosey motherfucker. Let’s talk about each other’s seasonal depression
instead of that burrito you just shoved in your face. LEVEL UP YOUR
recipe for a soba noodle salad that’s so dope that it’s a worthy steal
from the shared fridge. You’ve been warned.”

  • Todd20036

Stupid republicans. There really is something to be said when one major party wants to b fascist.

  • Michael Smith

If the counting is rigged, then why would Hillary voters need to intimidate anyone? You can’t even keep your crazy straight.

    • Traxley Launderette

Because those people are just naturally violent. Look at Chicago.

Also, demon Killary is paying them 1500 bucks each. And you know they’ll spend it on drugs.

      • Bert_Bauer

        …and abortions.

        • Traxley Launderette

No, that’s what that Planned Parenthood does with all my hard-earned tax money! That’s why all them baby mommas have at least six a year — because they’re free!!!

  • JellyDonut

Thugs with sticks is more of a Trump Troll thing. DUH

  • Clive Johnson

It’s nothing but psychological projection from these folks: Massive voter suppression via Republican led states; Trump and supporters actually declaring that they’re going to “watch” the polls.

  • And now for another chorus of “It’s Always Projection.”

Except the Republican thugs will have guns, not sticks.

  • JaniceInToronto

They’re talking about cops, I mean with the sticks, right?

    • Cipher

Only if they are Black cops- in which case they are *actually* members of the “New Black Panthers”- you know, a Yuuuuge organization that is intimidating little old white ladies across the nation.

  • William

My partner is trying to arrange time off on Monday so we can go on the first day of early voting. If anything strange happens, I will be recording.

    • Jerry

They generally don’t target the early voting, but try the intimidation at the polls on election day.

  • J Ascher

When Tea Party types use the word, “integrity,” I’m reminded of the quote by Inigo Montoya: I don’t think the word you’re using means what you think it does.

  • c

    This is Delgaudio worthy stuff.

  • Tulle Christensen

Yes it is just awful that some urban polling places stay open hours after set closing times cause the lines were so long after the Republicans closed many polling places and reduced early voting days

    • lymis

Honestly, that’s one of the scarier things out of the Trump folks. Because there’s pretty much a guarantee that many voting districts are going to have long lines – and an official policy of “if you’re in line at closing time, you still get to vote” – but the “poll watchers” are going to start serious disruptions and voter intimidation of the people who are legitimately in line waiting, and declare things are being “rigged.”

      • EweTaw

I’m expecting Arizona will have a serious problem with long lines once again. The primaries didn’t go too well and I’m sure they haven’t fixed the problem.

      • DaveW

Ive. Ever waited in line. Maybe because I vote at 7am

But seriously, like traffic, government FAIL. Build more lanes, put in commuter rail, open More polling places!

        • John T

Long lines in urban precincts, especially where there are large minority populations, are intentional and deliberate. “Fail” is not the right word, I think the word you’re looking for is “corrupt” or “anti-democratic” or “racist”.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

*Projection* – thy name is GOP.

  • Pollos Hermanos

And by “thugs with night sticks” we all know what she means.

  • Rebecca Gardner

What the fuck is it with the RWNJ “mind” and Psychological Projection?

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Because they know that is what THEY would do, so they feel that’s what others would to. Projection is a classic hallmark of moral bankruptcy.

      • Bomer

It’s also why they are so afraid of becoming a minority. They know just how badly they have treated minorities over the years and they fear that they will be treated the same when the tables are turned.

    • The_Wretched

Every one must be just like them – it’s a lack of empathy to understand that not everyone is the same.

    • JCF

Fear & loathing of their own secret desires: project outward, in order to CRUSH. Most obvious, in homophobia, of course. But they project their desire to ensure the electoral result they want, by any means necessary [steal], onto their opponents.

  • safari

At least one study has linked the conservative mind to react more strongly to fear and disgust than non-conservatives.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

      OK – I’m detecting a bit of a paradox.
My little dino mind has started to react with both fear and disgust every time it hears a RWNJ. Am I in danger of being assimilated by the alt-Borg???

      • safari

An additional study has shown conservative thought can be disrupted by transcranial magnetic stimulation of the prefrontal cortex.

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

Phew! Commencing stimulation now. Be back in a bit!

          • safari

It might actually have been the right parietal cortex. Eh. You’ll figure it out.

      • EweTaw

No. You’re in danger of being gay bashed by the RWNJs. Same as always.

    • NancyP

The authoritarian follower mind reacts more strongly to fear and disgust. The leader may or may not feel fear and disgust.

  • Guess

Oh, c’mon, lady, leave the Cops outta this!

  • SunsetGay

The only “thug” going around with a “night stick” is the one saying he likes to move on women like bitches and grab them by the pussy.

  • Natty Enquirer

Didn’t she mean to say “black-as-night sticks”?

  • David

From this point forward, the Teaparty/ Teabagger/ Alt-Right MUST be called and referred to only by their actual/ REAL name:

    The Third Reich was in Germany;
The Forth Reich is in the US.

It’s time to permanently rip their collective clown masks off, and identify/ recognize them for whom and what they really are: The Forth Reich.

  • Rex

Shouldn’t she be home making her husband dinner and homeschooling the kids?

    • David

      And drinking Valium milkshakes.

      • Stubenville

        Switch to Valium-tinis at 5:00.

Ugh! If she has kids, every minute that she’s away from them is likely a good thing.

The poll workers where I live are serious no-nonsense people who will not tolerate any illegal bullshit from Trump supporters. I hope they try some shit and get kicked out.

I swear some of the poll workers at my polling place have been there since I first voted and I will tell you Grannies don’t put up with shit.

    • Adam King

Kicked out? Hauled off by the police would be more appropriate. Voter intimidation is a crime.

If Republican voters are going to be intimidated at the polls by Thugs with nightsticks shouldn’t you good patriots be at the polling locations with the highest concentration of Republican leaning voters to protect them ?

  • Paula

Thugs with nightsticks? Isn’t that the Police?

  • LibreV

It’s telling that she mentions night sticks, which are nearly always associated with police and not street criminals. I’m trying to zero in on this woman’s visual hallucinations and all I can come up with is black Keystone Cops as storm troopers.

    • Adam King

I think she’s dogwhistling “scary negroes” based on the 2 guys in Philadelphia hanging around outside a polling place in a black neighborhood, not intimidating anybody, who the crazies decided were the “New Black Panthers” and were going to start riots as a cover so they could rape white Christian women, or something. One of those guys had a nightstick, I think.

      • Yes he had a nightstick.
I vote in an old Colonial era house turned into a VFW club for 12 years now in Philly. We are one of the precincts in which not one person voted for Romney.
One of the poll watchers is a church deacon I know. It is a neighborhood in every sense of the word. If strangers show up, we will know it. I will have at them with my cane. I only have to walk round the block to vote. God bless America.

        • Adam King

You scared off all the Romney voters with your scary cane! Shake that thing!

          • Damn right.

          • Kruhn

Funny, I’m watching old Star Trek Voyager episodes. Voyager is indirectly involved with President Obama’s election. Remember the scandal involving Republican candidate Jack Ryan and his then wife Jeri, a.k.a. Seven of Nine?

Ryan had to withdraw, the Republicans had to import Alan Keyes from Maryland, and the rest, so they say, is history.

  • JustSayin’

Moeny beg! I knew it! Last thirty seconds!

  • leastyebejudged
  • RainbowPhoenix

I thought the thugs with nightsticks usually targeted African-americans, who overwhelmingly vote democratic.

  • Brad Lathem

I don’t think I’ll ever vote for a Republican for as long as I live. This is truly disgusting. These people are a cancer.

    • NO MORE GOP!

You’re being far too generous in your assessment.

    • Ore Carmi

      These people ARE a cancer.

I have a thug with a night stick fantasy, now I wish I hadn’t voted by mail.

  • TheManicMechanic

Which is code for all teatards to head out to the polls and keep non-republicans from voting.

  • Liam C

    Yeah, they’re called Trump supporters.

  • DaddyRay

I am surprised Republicans ever get out from under their bed to vote – they are scared of everything

  • moebym

Projection. It’s people like you who have said that they will “monitor” the polls, guns in tow.

  • Henry Auvil

“Thugs with nightsticks”? I think Ms. Engelbrecht is indulging in a bit of projection here.

  • Liam C

Roger Stone told the Guardian yesterday that there are 1300+ ‘volunteers’ heading to nine cities on election day.

    • Well there’s 1300+ Republicans who will have been so busy packing that they forget to vote early.

  • Jon

I hope Apple delays this shit in their approval process. Fuck this stupid shit. The only fraud comes from republican shitbags that can’t win on their own otherwise.

  • Cuberly

Asking crazy paranoid people, hyper aware, scared that their country is being taken away from them, to patrol polling sites to look for anything suspicious.

    Yeah, that’s a plan.

  • The_Wretched

I like Paul Ryan’s take on all this ‘poll watching’. (paraphrase) “Stop it!!! You assholes are going to get the anti-voter abuse consent decree extended!”

“Thugs with nightsticks… and long-haired homosexuals with warehouse-ceiling-high stacks of petitions.”

Good grief. Each more unhinged than the next.

If only we had the help of some foreign country that was part of the old Soviet Union to stand guard at our polling places.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

    Projection…not just for movies anymore.

  • CatCope

But “Peace Loving Repukes” would NEVER EVER do anything like that to DEM voters.

  • teeveedub

Thanks for posting this, Joe. I’ve always wondered what David Duke would look like in drag.

    • Ore Carmi

      I saw the resemblance too!

  • Raising_Rlyeh

By perchance will the night sticks be in their pants? Because I’ll heroically distract them, four or five at a time, to make sure people can vote. /s

  • kareemachan

So… does this mean that the voting hours (some of which were curtailed and polling sites closed down) aren’t *enough* for people to exercise their Constitutional right? Why isn’t she espousing longer hours, then? More polling sites? Does she help GOTV? Why not?

    • Friday

Of course it’s a regular REpublican trick to make sure there aren’t enough voting booths in urban areas so that everyone *can’t* vote during the allotted time. Also the Republicans basically have a restraining order on them for this knd of thing that’s set to expire next year unless renewed, after things they’ve pulled in other elections trying to intimidate voters, so if they want to pull this by all means document it, this can be renewed another ten years.

  • Jerry Kott

    Bring it on.

  • Ore Carmi

Keeping the polls open after hours is election fraud? In what reality?

And, oh, yeah, thugs with night sticks. Because it’s so easy to identify Republican voters! Projection much?

    • Tor

If that fellow could identify republican mail-in ballots without opening them, anything is possible.

      • Ore Carmi

        Good point.

  • HZ81

    Bitch, please.

  • IamM

Oh no! Not polling places that let citizens vote!

  • NancyP

Yes, guys holding signs just outside the “adverts banned” limits around the polling place. Some of these guys, if out all day, bring a big stick with cloth (umbrella).

  • Lawerence Collins

Why are the Tea-publicons going to threaten other red voters?!

  • 1Truth1

The only “fraud” I see this election is named Trump. Can i use the app to report him?

  • olandp

It certianly looks like she has been roughed up by a nightstick.

  • olandp

I dare one of these assholes to try to intimidate me. My ancestors fought and died so I could vote. The little old ladies, usually black, know me because I vote EVERY time. It could also be that I’m the only man wearing pearls that they see.

  • Herald

They just can not help massive projecting can they.
They are also showing just how crazy and paranoid they are.

    • I know. How can you tell who is a R or a D by just looking at them?

  • RobynWatts

Just a reminder: If anyone tries to discriminate or discourage you from voting, call your local FBI field office and report it immediately! If possible, document as much information of the incident as possible. Here is a link to a map of the FBI field offices in the U.S.

Also, there is a group, called the “Election Protection Coalition, made up of several non-profit legal organizations, that have set up a hotline and a website to report voter intimidation and fraud. The number is 1-866-OUR-VOTE (687-8683), and their website is http://www.866ourvote.org

Oh, and I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but please go vote! I plan to do so next week, and I don’t care how long I will have to wait….my ballot will be cast!

  • Canadian Observer

Shit, they are onto us. ATTENTION EVERYBODY, we are going for Plan B – that means leave the nightsticks behind and bring the cattle prods instead. MAKE SURE they are FULLY charged.!

    • RJ Bone

I thought we agreed on AK-47s this time…?

  • Gianni

I can’t grasp the idea that any voter would allow some boob with a nightstick to frighten them into not voting? You’re in a very public place with lots of people around and all the boobs have to do is touch you and they are behind bars.

  • John T

It’s a racist dog-whistle *and* a textbook example of projection!

  • Every polling location tries to have one poll watcher; there is no way someone standing around like that would not get reported. Hell, almost everyone has a cell-phone – who the hell would not call 911 immediately!

  • Texndoc

Norman Lear foresaw the Tea Party and Trumpist poll watchers in 1971. Just watch a couple minutes from “Cold Turkey”. RIP Judith Lowry who in the 1970s was everyone favorite little busy body old lady character actress.

  • Tiger Quinn

I’m just going to go ahead and put bail money aside for Nov 8. It seems smart.

  • Coprolite

“….and “polling places [that] stay open for hours past official closing times in an effort to engineer the desired outcome.””

Polling places typically stay open past the standard poll closing to accomidate heavy voter turnout, resulting in long lines, and insufficient voting machines or ballots. Poll volunteers are not trying to “engineer an outcome”, they are ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to fulfill their constitutional right to vote.

  • NeverEclipsed

And nobody talks about the fact that we have to vote in churches and get stared down when they find out we’re asking for a democratic ballot. :-/ Night sticks? Really?

  • Jay Silversmith

Anybody who remotely tries to intimidate me where I vote will be eating a double-fisted knuckle samwich.

  • Dee

“Thugs With Night Sticks” Does she means the police?
