Catholic Bishops Condemn Trump: “Do Not Mock Us”

The Daily Beast reports:

New York’s Catholic bishops—led by Trump‘s favorite cardinal—sharply rebuked the president over an AI-generated photo he posted of himself as pope.

“There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President,” the New York Catholic Conference of Bishops said in a post on X Saturday. “We just buried our beloved Pope Francis and the cardinals are about to enter a solemn conclave to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Do not mock us.”

Trump, a non-Catholic, posted an AI-generated photo of himself in papal white robes and a gilded mitre to Truth Social on Friday. The White House’s official X account later shared the post. Asked earlier this week who should replace the late Pope Francis, who died last month, Trump joked that it should be him.

The screencap above is from a video by Illinois Bishop Thomas Paprocki titled “President Biden Mocks Our Catholic Faith.” His response to Trump is also below.

Paprocki last appeared here in 2017 when he decreed that married gays may not have Catholic funerals or last rites unless they “repent on their deathbeds.”

Some of Paprocki’s other greatest hits reported here over the last decade are at the bottom of this post.

As you can see below, JD Vance is responding to criticism of Trump’s pope meme with an unrelated strawman argument, something he has become infamous for doing on X.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: In September 2012, Paprocki told his diocese that if they vote for a Democrat, Satan will take their soul. In January of 2013, Paprocki testified against same-sex marriage before the Illinois legislature. Paprocki then ordered all of the priests in his parish to read an anti-gay letter to their congregations.  Also in January 2013, Paprocki defended a priest in his diocese who was forced to call 911 to get him out of the handcuffs and ball-gag that he’d put on during some totally-not-gay self-pleasuring. According to Paprocki, the priest was merely engaging in “non-sexual self-bondage” as a means of relieving stress. Later in 2013, Paprocki exorcised “the demons of gay marriage” out of the state of Illinois. In 2014, Paprocki declared that anti-gay exorcisms inflicted upon gay men are “an act of love.”
