Two days ago from California’s Martinez Gazette:
Martinez residents won’t have a parade or a fireworks show this Independence Day because of COVID-19 restrictions. But they’ll have the chance to celebrate and endorse freedom in an expressive way Saturday on Court Street.
At public request, the city has authorized a temporary “Black Lives Matter” mural in front of the Wakefield Taylor Courthouse between Main Street and Ward streets. Stencils of the letters have been cut and paint will be furnished, according to organizers’ Instagram postings.
Participants are asked to bring face coverings, hand sanitizer and paint rollers, although some rollers will be available. Painting starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the city will have streets blocked off for the safety of the participating public and for the paint to dry.
And this happened yesterday:
Some major F-bombing and ongoing street dissertation took place as a couple attempted to paint out city sanctioned messaging on Court Street in Martinez Saturday. The couple left to “get more paint” after blurring, blotting the “B” and the “L” in Black but did not return. Martinez police are reportedly investigating.
People in SF Bay Area, specifically Martinez. Anyone know who these racist Trump supporters are defacing a city-approved street mural??? #BlackLivesMatter #IndependenceDay

Volunteers spent hours painting a #BlackLivesMatter mural in #Martinez, which was city sanctioned just for it to be vandalized. A woman painted over part of the mural and volunteers said she and a man were yelling “all lives matter.” Volunteers ended up fixing the mural. @KTVU pic.twitter.com/uxwJM0zJaD
