A counter-protester at the deadly white supremacist rally last year in Charlottesville, Va. is suing the media outlet Infowars, its owner Alex Jones and seven others for defamation.
Georgetown Law’s Civil Rights Clinic filed the lawsuit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia on behalf of Brennan Gilmore, who alleges that Alex Jones and other far-right supporters, including former Rep. Allen West (R-Ga.), published stories about him that damaged his reputation and mobilized an army of followers to pursue a campaign of harassment and threats against him.
In addition to Jones, the lawsuit was filed against Inforwars’ operating company Free Speech System, Infowars reporter Lee Ann McAdoo; Lee Stranahan, a reporter who has appeared in an Infowars video and has worked at Sputnik and Breitbart News; Jim Hoft, the author of the blog Gateway Pundit; former Rep. Allen West, who operates the website www.allenwest.com; Derrick Wilburn, author of a defamatory article about Gilmore on www.allenwest.com; and Scott Creighton, operator of the blog American Everyman.

Hoft, whose website ran an article in August calling Gilmore a shill for the“deep state,” said he did not condone violence but defended his article.“A lot of the information is correct as far as I know,” he said. Stranahan said he stood by an Infowars video, in which McAdoo interviewed him and he cited a Twitter post by Gilmore referring to Heyer as a “martyr,” saying she was being “used [as] a martyr to the cause” in the efforts to undermine Trump. “I pride myself on being factual,” Stranahan said, adding that he abhors online threats, having received many himself.

We have come under assault regularly from the left and far left groups like Media Matters, and we are targeted by social media giants. We have seen our numbers related to Facebook and Twitter decline dramatically. We have been smeared and attacked. Last month we saw a significant drop in Facebook traffic.
Two weeks ago Facebook shut down our traffic stream from their social media platform without warning. This is today’s American left. They can’t win the argument so they destroy you.
And now we are the target of lawsuits. The media today is an off-shoot of the DNC. Even Reuters. They aren’t after the truth. They are after hit pieces. This is the world we live in. And they are outraged that there are other voices out there that do not share their politics.
