Roy Moore Launches Money Beg To Defend Against Defamation Suit Brought By Sexual Assault Accuser

Huntsville’s ABC affiliate reports:

Roy Moore has sent an email to supporters asking them to donate to a “Legal Defense Fund.” He says he needs the money to fight Leigh Corfman in court. Corfman says she had a sexual encounter with Moore when she was 14 and he was 32. Moore called Corfman a liar all through the campaign while his allies insinuated she was being paid to make the accusation.

She is suing Moore, wanting the court to force him to “retract all defamatory statements made against Ms. Corfman, to publicly apologize for these defamatory statements, and to refrain from making further defamatory statements.” It also asks that Moore be forced to pay the legal costs of the suit and “provide further relief as permitted by law and as the Court deems appropriate.”

According the Moore’s money beg, George Soros, Mitch McConnell, and the Washington Post were behind the campaign to “slander my reputation and character and steal a Senate election from the People of Alabama.”

The above-linked story notes that the first time Moore launched a legal defense fund, during the Ten Commandments monument case, that money ended up being used to create the Foundation For Moral Law, his hate group which openly advocates for instituting a Christian theocracy in which courts and governments are bound by “biblical law.”

To date the Foundation has paid Moore more than $1 million in salary and created jobs for his wife and nine-times-arrested son, Caleb.  (Tipped by JMG reader Scott)

Al-Abama, where he almost won. It’ll work nicely and he’ll grift a good amount of cash to live on for the next few years until he runs again.

  • Tawreos

Isn’t he owed nearly a million dollars by his own foundation? I think he knows where he should be getting the money. It must be hard for him to not live off of other peoples money after all these years.

    • Treant

      Oh, lord.

Unfortunately, that statement probably gained them a few votes down there.

      • ik, r? goddess i worship you that you have prevented me from ever having to live in that state. Texass was bad enough.

      • Joe in PA

Really? I was thinking just to opposite. Lurleen and Jethro aren’t gonna be voting for some jew-loving politician. Sheesh.

        • Treant

That’s…not a Jew-loving statement. That’s bigot code for “we have a Jew for an attorney, aren’t we daring? But those Jews make great lawyers and bankers!”

          • Joe in PA

I hear ya…but I’m not sure anyone stupid enough to vote for these fucks gets the distinction, but ok.

          • Treant

I’ve never met a bigot so dumb they couldn’t understand bigotry. 🙂

          • Joe in PA

Can I quote you on that? 🙂

          • Treant

Feel free. It’s why politicians feel justified in using dog whistles. The bigots know to whom they speak and understand it.

It’s why bigots do tend to be dumb. 90% of their wee brains are taken up listening to high-pitched sounds.

    • DJ John Bear

Some people don’t have too much money, and too little in the brain department and *still* donate to this creep’s money beg, thinking that the ‘lord will provide’.

  • Joe in PA

Hmmm, and “provide further relief as permitted by law and as the Court deems appropriate.”

This should be interesting. More interesting if all the “as appropriate” money went to a Women’s clinic or some such.

  • Just love how it’s not the fact he’s a known ephebophile that cost him the election, coupled with the fact he’s never actually been popular in Alabama, plus was removed from the AL bench twice for breaking the law and refusing to uphold both federal and state laws.

Sure, it’s people telling the truth about Moore who are to blame, because as ever, he’s yet another Republican who believes he is entitled to any elected office he sets his beady little eyes upon.

    • The_Wretched

The Alabama power brokers were willing to go along with him for years.

    • billbear1961

Hello, Becca. Could you click on my profile page and go back 6 posts (well, 7 counting THIS one) and take a look at an Electoral-Vote article I posted on the Nikki Haley thread? OR you could just click on this E-V link:

It’s the first story on the site (I think the link will take you directly to it, but they don’t always work as precisely as they should on E-V).

I find this assessment extremely frustrating, the notion that there STILL isn’t enough evidence to say Trump is obviously obstructing justice. I could SCREAM!

      • Yes, there is more than ample evidence at this point that Donald engaged in conspiracy and obstruction. MORE THAN ENOUGH. A 1st year law student could get an indictment and conviction.

Thing is, Billbear, I cast back to remembering Nixon and how even as his guilt became more and more clear, the GOP back then dragged their collective feet and kept making excuses…until the day when the tipping point came. And they met with him and told him not only would he be impeached, there would be enough votes to convict.

But until then, it kept looking like Nixon would last out his term with no consequences.

So while I’m with you on the extreme frustration, I haven’t given up hope. Not yet.

        • billbear1961

Thank you for taking a look and for your assessment.

          • You’re welcome. It’s worth recalling that Nixon’s guilt was apparent and obvious. The decision to move against him was a political one.

And every day Donald’s approval ratings remain in the mid 30s and the news is filled with “Blue Wave” predictions is another day closer to the point where the GOP will be forced to deal with the fact he’s an anchor dragging them down.

But we gotta hang on. And Resist.

          • jonfromcalifornia

The thing that worries me is that people get complacent and convinced about the “Blue Wave” theory and will stay home instead of getting out to vote. Many Democrats also thought Hillary would win hands down in 2016 and so they stayed home on Election Day.

  • Blake J Butler

Passed in the senate, 29-10 with noticeable bipartisan support, its going to the house of delegates next. This would be the final passage before it ends up on Governor Northam’s desk.

    • John Ruff

      The house will defeat it

      • Blake J Butler

The republicans have a extremely narrow lead, thanks to democratic resistance back in November with regards to the house of delegates.

You know, cause elections matter, and this is standing a chance because people gave a damn.

Republicans controlled the senate narrowly by one, yet this just passed with bipartisan support.

        • John Ruff

Let’s hope. But I tend to expect the worst from VA as I am an exile of that POS commonwealth

      • billbear1961

If Democrats support it overwhelmingly, it just needs a few Republicans (the House of Delegates has a GOP majority of only 1 or 2). It just passed with bipartisan support in the state senate, so why doesn’t it have a chance with the delegates?

    • Joe in PA

      “T” included in that? Yayayayay.

      • Blake J Butler

per SB 202 as it is written:

“Nondiscrimination in public employment. Prohibits discrimination in public employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, as defined in the bill. The bill also codifies for state and local government employment the current prohibitions on discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, age, marital status, disability, or status as a veteran.”

        • Joe in PA
