EVERYTHING IS FINE: White House Intern Flashes “White Power” Signal During Group Photo With Trump

The Daily Mail reports:

A former White House intern is coming under fire after flashing a known ‘white power’ sign during a photo-op with President Donald Trump.

Jack Breuer, who graduated from Emory University in Atlanta this year, is clearly bucking orders — personally given by the president — to give a thumbs-up in the picture that was taken in the White House in November.

While the other hundred or so interns smile and follow Trump’s command, Breuer, a dentist’s son who grew up in Chicago’s western suburbs, stands stony-faced giving the ‘OK’ sign that has been linked with far-right groups.

It is the same sign that white nationalist Richard Spencer gave on the steps of the Trump International Hotel on election night and that right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos posed with in front of the White House.

Homocon blogger Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit flashed the same hand signal in the White House briefing room earlier this year.

  • Phillip in L.A.

Perhaps he is indicating his own estimation of the Commander-in-Chief’s . . . er . . . endowment?

  • Lazycrockett

As I stated last night notice how everyone has moved away from him.

    • Treant

“He smells like Axe body spray, despair, and eternal virginity.”

  • It’s actually not an “OK” sign they’re making. I learned yesterday that the choice of hand and position is key: The widely spread three fingers make a W and the thumb and forefinger are intended to make a P.

    White Power.

Yes, we now have actual Nazis in the White House.

    • Tread

Stephen Miller, Sebastian Gorka, Steve Bannon. Trump surrounded himself with white nationalists to play to those frail old white people who are ascurred or the blacks, browns, and gays.

    • another_steve

Many of Trump’s base – the 32-40 percent of Americans who still support him – are white supremacists. Trump needs their continued support or he’ll be out the door.

      • There are bigots. Then there are racists. Then there are the white supremacists. And finally, there are the Nazis. It’s a matter of degree and it is a curve, in terms of numbers.

Bigot = “I just don’t like people who are different from me.”
Racist = “I just don’t like black people. Or asians. Or Middle Easterners.”
White Supremacist = “White people should be in charge of everything because we’re the superior race.”
Nazi = “Hitler had some fine ideas regarding the non-white races.”

        • Jonathan Smith

everyone else: “fuck off and die, and take your views with you”

        • another_steve

For fear of alienating a segment of their Cialis and Medicare supplemental plan-purchasing audience (and thereby angering the TV commercial sponsors), TV commentators have been largely silent on the issue of how President Obama’s African American skin helped usher in the likes of a Donald Trump to the White House.

Ours is still a nation in recovery from the American Civil War. Hatred of African Americans is still widespread – in the south, obviously, but to an extent all over the country.

President Obama’s black skin resulted in eight years of hate and frustration in a wide swath of the country. And that imo helped propel Donald J. Trump to the White House.

    • I’d wondered for a long time why it kinda looked like a very awkward OK sign. Now we know. It’s actually not that easy to make the W and P that way.

    • Buford

Remember Kellyanne Conway’s odd ‘Hapless Haters’ Valentine’s Day tweet… the one which was not only oddly-worded and included her saying ‘Love you, back!’ to white nationalists, but which capitalized the ‘HH’ of ‘Hapless Haters’…??

I wonder why ‘HH’ warranted such emphasis… hmmm…

    • Bunter

I know a couple of guys who started using it online in 2016. Now I wonder- How do I find out if they used it by accident or on purpose?

  • Gustav2

Where did they find all these Kapos?

  • Sam_Handwich

is that really his Twitter account tho? it appears to have just popped up at 1am this morning

    • Gustav2

Quick, get an apology out there or a White House internship won’t be worth shit on your resume.

Yeah, do it on twitter, that’s the fastest.

      • margaretpoa

It already isn’t worth a shit IMO.

    • Publius

It looks like he wanted a forum to issue an apology, apart from his Facebook account, which is deleted, and his original Twitter account (@JackJBreuer), also deleted. So yeah, this Twitter account was created just today. In any case, he’s a fucking idiot. His career is over.

    • Bunter

It might be fake because of this little ironic treasure: “I emulated the OK sign the President sometimes makes”.

      Or not.

  • margaretpoa

Two words for your explanation Jack Breuer:
    1) Bull
    2) Shit

  • Treant

Trump does that in the middle of speeches, so it’s no wonder the little kids pick it up. The only solution is to remove daddy from the household.

  • KarenAtFOH

Dude, trump is not flashing the OK sign either.

  • Ninja0980

Yea, not buying a word of your excuse you hateful little shit.

  • Harveyrabbit
  • another_steve

Message sent to the base. Trump is delighted.

And now let the phony apologies and backtracking begin.

    • Bunter

“I emulated the OK sign the President sometimes makes”

One fellow intern said that Breuer, who worked under senior policy adviser Stephen Miller…

    • GanymedeRenard

Miller is also Jewish. I wonder if we’re witnessing an iteration of a Judenrat here? Quislings.

      • Todd20036

All minorities have their quislings. There were pro Hitler Jews in Nazi Germany.

They got the best bunks in the camps.

        • GanymedeRenard

          Absolutely.

        • Bunter

One major officer who organised the Berlin Olympics in 1937 was half Jewish. He and many others still believed that his services for the NSDAP would make him a honorary aryan. Mussolini had lots of Jews in his administration.

For the first 5 years or so, many people believed the persecution was only against Jewish migrants, as there was a wave of migrants to Germany from former Russia.

Many German Jews were assimilated and baptised. They all thought they were safe, like certain homosexuals…

      • William

Someone has to point the way to the gas chambers.

        • GanymedeRenard

          So sad and so true.

I can’t be a white supremacist because I’m a Jew. Sure Jack, sure.

    • Todd20036

Yup, just as Milo cannot be anti LBGT because he likes dick.

I’m just imagining peoples reactions if black interns during Obama’s administration raised their fists in an anti-apartheid salute.

      • GanymedeRenard

And Milo cannot be a racist because he married a black guy. And he cannot be pro-white power because he’s a Jew.
        ——
Gawd, how I despise his ugly quisling ass on so many fronts.

BTW has anyone ever actually seen this husband? The only photo I ever saw only showed the back of a person identified as his the husband.

          • GanymedeRenard

Milo being Milo, I suspect he’s embarrassed to show his black husband in public. And yup, the only pics available of him are these two:

          • Shawn Ullerup

I would like for somebody with a background in psychology or behavioral science to explain to me how a twat like Milo can be so out and proud from one side of his mouth, and so thoroughly, loudly and hypocritically self-loathing, secretive and ashamed of his gayness–and by extension of all LGBT–out of the other side. I don’t get the compartmentalization at all.

And a certain lack of shame and anything resembling human dignity.

          • Mike C.

Have you seen this video of Boy George and Milo talking about being gay? It’s very insightful. Milo hadn’t yet tapped into his “Ann Coulter’s gay brother” persona and didn’t seem half bad. How times have changed.

What self-respecting black man would speak to, let alone fuck, Milo!

          • GanymedeRenard

IDK, honestly. But hey, to each his own.

          • prixator

As his jacket states, he’s “blind for love”. Or maybe he just isn’t self-respecting.

          • Eric Mory

In the picture with the champagne: What kind of wedding photographer cuts one of the wedding couple out on the edge of the frame? You’d think that guy was the help not the husband.

Oh, wait, to M.Y. the black husband probably is the help.

        • Nowhereman

          He needs to be deported.

He’s not even really a Jew. He’s a Catholic with some Jewish heritage, which he exploits to deflect accusations of bigotry. (I know, technically he is, because Jewish tribe membership is passed on through the maternal line, but to not even be raised in a culture and then run around claiming to be part of it when it suits you is pretty shitty.)

    • Tread

The 3 up fingers form a “W”, the touching forefinger, thumb and wrist form the “P.” It’s been a white power symbol for a long time.

      • William

The idea is to be in on the gesture. If anyone calls you out for making it, you can say it was only the OK sign.

    • Friday

It’s not even an OK, even if he weren’t up on how white nationalists use it. (Of course they like to pretend everyone else that uses an ‘OK’ sign is one of them, but they’ve obviously made a point of trolling when in the White House with the …racist troll version.)

IMO, it’s spreading the fingers to make the “W”, which makes it different than “OK”.

Symbols can change. The swastika was an ancient Hindu symbol that the Nazis appropriated. White nationalists in the US have appropriated that particular way of doing the “OK” symbol as gesture in solidarity for white power.

    • Nope. It is not. Not when done in precisely that way, with three fingers spread in a W and thumb and forefinger trying very hard to make a circle as the top of a P.

‘Since when’? Since the Nazis began spreading it all over their websites and forums in the last 5 years or so. It was introduced so they’d recognize each other, not unlike the way many college fraternities had their own flashed symbols. Also, freemasons.

    • Barry William Teske

You need to spend a little more ‘quality’ time in the white nationalist ‘chat’ rooms.
The bragging rights alone are enough to turn ones stomach.
Then, by all means, please let us know how ’o.k.’ you are with it all.

      • Chaz Antonelli

I ignore them — they are white trash and a disgrace.

    • Chaz Antonelli

Take our symbolism back! It’s NOT White Power — it’s “A-OK” or “O.K.”

Unlike the swastika, which was flipped (mirror-imaged) for the Nazis, this symbol is nearly universal for “okay”. Don’t assume someone is a white supremacist because they use it!

      https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4f931cd84ac011d99772909a0d4796b5de3052d32354e3cdf8e50b6558f64e2b.jpg

Since that’s a stock photo, “this man” is an actor/model, and the photo tells us nothing about his own social/political opinions.

Nevertheless, the gesture he is making is clearly not the same as the one made by Breuer (the former is more relaxed and presented at an angle, whereas Breuer’s gesture is face-on and the three fingers are extended more rigidly and widely spaced), nor is the context remotely similar.

    • EdA

Apollo 11 was in 1969, when the only overt White Supremacists around were the KKK, the American Nazi Party, and the John Birch Society, whose descendants have lovingly embraced Vladimir Putin and Russia which their Bircher ancestors despised. Oh, and politicians in the slave states of the Confederacy who became Republiscum when Richard Nixon launched the Southern Strategy.

    • Snarky

Nazis and white power groups have appropriated that symbol now. Note the kid’s three fingers are straight up, and not rounded like you would naturally do when making the “OK” sign.

  • William

    Nazis Raus!

  • hdtex
    • ECarpenter

“Never” when used in this way is correct only for events that take place multiple times or events which are speculative and have no specific time attached to them, so they may hypothetically happen in a broad range of times. You can only be born once, though, (there’s no real evidence for reincarnation), so this should read “If he had not been born rich”, since his own birth is a one-time event which we know happened. It’s ignorant to use incorrect English to impugn someone else’s ignorance.

And yes, if he’d been born into a poor racist nazi family, he would have looked like this. Lots of people would, given that background.

    • Friday

Well, honestly, except that Drumph would know better by now, if he were capable of learning or *not trolling,* that gesture he makes is really *neither* a ‘white power’ nor an OK sign. In the Northeast, it’s something older generations did as a rhetorical gesture like you were sticking a pin in a point. I kind of picked that up myself, sometimes, only I don’t tend to splay the other fingers up like certain annoying teachers did. Anyway, this guy doing it obviously is full of it since if you actually watched that Trump speaking he’s not saying things are ‘OK.’

  • Scout

An OK symbol has rounded fingers into an O with the thumb and forefinger. He is straining to do something different.

    • marshlc

Yeah, the OK sign is something you see around here a lot – lots of road construction, oil fields, all kinds of places where people have to use hand signals. And that awkward thing he’s making is not an OK sign.

As to whether it started out as “ha ha let’s put one over on the knee jerk liberals”, well, that doesn’t really matter, now. Far right assholes have for a long time wanted to position themselves as the cool kids, pretending that they are being ironic, that there is something “alt” in their going against the mainstream, and it’s never really come off. The reason for that, I think, is that most of those drawn to their nonsense really are basement dwelling losers who need to feel like they are better than somebody. And there is just nothing sexy and alternative about a bunch of hot-pocket eaters.

He is definitely trolling, no matter what, and my guess is he knows exactly what that sign is, and the controversies behind it.

      • Taylor Bixler

I am just sayin this is a 4chan thing to elicit precisely the response it has.

I saw something on that, too, but am thinking that they have turned it into a symbol with meaning, and people are using it for that meaning / trolling, so it is what it is no matter who started it. Congrats to 4chan, they have been successful, but should we ignore all this?

          • Bunter

The actual nazis have taken over 4chan, it’s not trolling anymore. They are using it to hide in plain sight and make “leftists” look paranoid now.
Not that this is anything new.

I see. Purportedly Jewish like his master Stephen Miller, for whom he worked, was raised Jewish, but who is now apparently a renegade, and who is only “allegedly” a racist and only allegedly a white supremacist. It seems to me that, unlike Stephen Miller’s apparent belief, the Holocaust had something to do with Jews.
Their mothers must be so proud.

  • EdA

Note: The “white power” sign may (or may not) have started out as a gag, but at this point there have been a number of White Supremacists who have taken it for real, which means that those of us whom they want to have as victims — including Jews explicitly — have to take it for real.

The Gadsden flag, the snake with “Don’t tread on me,” also used to be a national emblem. But then the Teatotalitarian Party expropriated this part of America’s national patrimony, to the point that anyone who now displays it identifies himself/herself/itself as being a selfish racist sociopath, spoiling its use for decent people.

I don’t know what I thought I would achieve, but I wrote a comment about this on Washington Times. The responses have been chilling. Take a look if you can stomach it.

Note: getting to the comment section takes a click or two.

Kudos for drawing out the nazis who were hiding behind “but it’s just a traditional gesture and you are paranoid”.

The chilling thing is that in the early 1930s, the NSDAP made fun of everybody who pointed to their potential murderousness with stuff like: “do you seriously believe that we would kill the Jews? you are crazy :D”

    • EdA

For those who may not be aware, the Washington Times is the Moonie paper, completely controlled by the Unification Church. Its politics can be described most kindly as reactionary.

  • fuzzybits

Raised in the Chicago suburbs. So much for racists only being from the south. They’re everywhere.

The president of the United States is a nazi. Happy New Year.

I dunno…. Not much to go by on his Twitter, his “following” list doesn’t seem to be overly extreme. However, he did intern for Donnie….

    NOT okay

  • DaveMiller135

Who knows? Maybe this is the way the Evangelicals feel about the rainbow flag. I’m not going to give up a hand sign I’ve made my entire life, meaning “I’m OK” or “Things are OK,” just because some idiots try to claim it. And I find it perfectly believable that this kid was just flashing the wrong “Everything’s Good” hand sign. I will allow questions as to why a young person would be signing “Everything’s OK” in a Trump White House. Ever. But I don’t think he has to be a White Power whiner to get there.

    • John30013

I might agree with your analysis if he hadn’t been specifically instructed to give a “thumb-up” gesture for the photo. But since he was, and he opted to give a different gesture (note that everyone else gives the “thumb-up” gesture in the photo), I believe he knew what he was doing and how his gesture would be perceived by people in the “alt-right” (i.e., Nazis).

  • CA2017

JACK BREUER must have realized that the internet will not forget his WHITE POWER hand gesture when a prospective future employer does a background check.

  • I’m surprise there was only one in that picture.

  • -M-

That’s not a normal ‘okay’ sign. He either knew what he was doing or he copied someone.

  • 2guysnamedjoe

Did young Jack write his apologia himself, or did someone hire him a public relations cleanup crew?

  • PJ

LOL. Trolling ruse cruise from 4chan. People who do this are more likely looking to get a rise out of liberals than promote white power.

  • JCF

“I’m proud of my Jewish heritage and strongly reject the hateful views
associated with racist white power organizations. I would never make
    common cause with them.”

Was that blurb given to you by Stephen Miller?

Did you know that head of the Nazi Party in Chicago was half Jewish and a child molester back in the 1970’s. Most of these people have some sort of mental problems or drug addicts or are criminals. Something is always wrong with them.

  • Doug Miller

Funny thing about that white power symbol… turn it upside-down and you get “asshole” based on signing standards.

  • douglas

Trump is always making that signal as he talks and waving the hand in the air.

  • Acronym Jim

I don’t recall ever seeing Trump using that gesture as an OK sign. I’ve only seen him use it to punctuate his repetitions and hyperbole. You know, the same way other politicians use the thumb over a closed fist do to punctuate their remarks because apparently it’s rude to point in a regular manner or something.

So I’m giving that claim the full “sure Jan” rating.

  • fuow

Typical Nazi – he doesn’t even have the balls to admit to what he did.

  • Priya Lynn

I don’t buy his excuse that he was making the OK sign. Whenever I’ve seen people make that sign they don’t have the other three fingers rigidly extended straight like that, they’re more relaxed because the “O” is the entire symbol.
