Trump Revives Racist Birther Claims About Obama

The New York Times reports:

Mr. Trump’s falsehoods about the “Access Hollywood” tape are part of his lifelong habit of attempting to create and sell his own version of reality. Advisers say he continues to privately harbor a handful of conspiracy theories that have no grounding in fact.

In recent months, they say, Mr. Trump has used closed-door conversations to question the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate. He has also repeatedly claimed that he lost the popular vote last year because of widespread voter fraud, according to advisers and lawmakers.

One senator who listened as the president revived his doubts about Mr. Obama’s birth certificate chuckled on Tuesday as he recalled the conversation. The president, he said, has had a hard time letting go of his claim that Mr. Obama was not born in the United States. The senator asked not to be named to discuss private conversations.

Mr. Trump’s journeys into the realm of manufactured facts have been frequent enough that his own staff has sought to nudge friendly lawmakers to ask questions of Mr. Trump in meetings that will steer him toward safer terrain.

See, now with this and the walkback on admitting to the pussy-grabbing tape, either he’s lost in time or he needs a real big distraction right now.

Mueller flipping Flynn might be why.

It’s a bad bill for many reasons and shouldn’t pass but the Walmart’s and Koch’s want it so the Republican *donors* will make sure it passes. Look at the caving of Collins & Corker

He’s has never been forced like the rest of us to deal with anger in a socially acceptable form, and he doesn’t drink, so he solicits virtual hugs and boo-boo kisses from his cult base when he’s angry. Definition of lunatic
a: affected with a severely disordered state of mind : insane

    lunatic
    noun

    • ChrisMorley

The original “Lunatics” were the brightest minds in 18th century English Midlands
      http://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/The-Lunar-Society/

‘The Lunar Society, or Lunar Circle as it was first called, was one such club. It met in and around Birmingham, England between 1765 and 1813. It was the members of this club however, that would set it apart from any other. They cheerfully referred to themselves as the ‘lunatics’, but this could not have been much further from the truth, as the revolutionaries involved would change the face of the world forever.
‘The Lunar Society was very particular about who was allowed to become
a member. An exclusive club, it never had more than fourteen core members, and each member was noted for their special area of expertise
including the greatest engineers, scientists and thinkers of the day.
Their preferred venue was Soho House in Handsworth, [in Birmingham] the home of Mathew Boulton who was the heart of the Lunar Society.

The society gained its name as its monthly meetings were always scheduled for the Monday nearest to the full moon, the better light helping to ensure the members a safer journey home along the dangerous, unlit streets.

      • SkokieGuy [ChicagoAdjacentGuy]

This is a temporary appointment. The permanent director doe have to be nominated by Trump and approved by the Senate. That’s why all this fighting for who is in charge temporarily seems rather ridiculous.

Trump could have just nominated this clown for the permanent position and let English service for a month or two. Trump and the Senate could have a permanent director in place before the courts even settle the issue of the correct temporary acting director.

Birthers aren’t just racist, they’re willfully ignorant-President Obama could have been born on Mars but because his mother is an American Obama is automatically an American. End of story.

    • Natty Enquirer

But is she really a citizen??

      • FAEN

        Don’t even go there lol.

    • Dave B.

Uh, no. A fictional foreign-born Barack Obama born outside the US, its outlying possessions, or the Panama Canal Zone wouldn’t have been born a US citizen, in spite of having a US citizen mother. It’s never been the law that every child born to a US citizen parent, or even two US citizen parents, will be born a US citizen; there have always been additional conditions that must be perfectly satisfied before citizenship is transmitted.

This is the law, as in effect in 1961, that would’ve applied to a fictional foreign-born Barack Obama, former Sec. 301(a)(7) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952:

“Section 301. (a) The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth: (7) a person born outside the geographical limits of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than ten years, at least five of which were after attaining the age of fourteen years”

Ann Dunham was born on November 29, 1942. Her son the future President was born on August 4, 1961. On that day she was eighteen years, eight months and six days old, and could not possibly have satisfied the statutory requirement, which included as an indispensable component five years of physical presence in the United States or its outlying possessions after attaining the age of fourteen years, and so could not have transmitted US citizenship to a child born to her outside the US on that date. A fictional foreign-born Barack Obama would have been eligible for automatic or expeditious naturalization, but wouldn’t have been born a US citizen.

That is the same law, by the way, under which Obama’s younger half-sister (born in Indonesia) and two of his younger half-brothers (born in Kenya) acquired US citizenship at birth.

Why do you find the simple and well-established fact that Barack Obama was born in the United States insufficient?

      • FAEN

Why do you find the simple and well-established fact that Barack Obama was born in the United States insufficient?

        *************
I didn’t realize I found the well established fact that he was born in the US insufficient.

        • Dave B.

Then why go outside the facts to make the spurious claim that a fictional Barack Obama who doesn’t even exist would be as eligible as the real one?

          • FAEN

Because I was making fun of the teabaggers.

          • Dave B.

Well yeah, that’s fun, but you said they were being “willfully ignorant” about something and then got it wrong yourself. Getting stuff wrong is birther territory– why not just leave it to them?

          • FAEN

            From the USCIS website

In a general, a Child Born Outside the U.S is a Citizen At Birth when the Child’s Parents are married to each other at the time of birth IF

The genetic or non-genetic gestational legal mother  is a U.S. citizen at the time of birth, and the birth date is after December 23, 1952

The mother had previously been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of at least one year.

So it seems if hypothetically he was born in Kenya he would still be a US Citizen by birth.

          • Dave B.

Uh, no, that’s not what the USCIS website says– you’ve got two parts mixed up, one for in-wedlock births and the other for out-of-wedlock births.

            https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents

The “continuous period of at least one year” physical presence requirement applied (from December 24, 1952, to June 12, 2017) when the child was born out of wedlock. The current charts don’t include the correct information for in-wedlock births from December 24, 1952, to November 13, 1986.

The requirement that would’ve applied to a fictional foreign-born Obama is just what I said it was. I quoted the statute itself.

But again, why isn’t the simple truth that Barack Obama was born in the United States good enough for you?

          • FAEN

Why don’t you understand I was poking fun at the tea baggers?

Ohh the USCIS.Gov website is incorrect. That clears it up.

          • Dave B.

I didn’t say the USCIS website is incorrect– you cited it incorrectly. And it’s incomplete, which should be more than obvious from what it says.
I get it that you were “poking fun at the tea bagggers.” But you did it in a way that makes you look as bad as they are.
