BUT HER EMAILS: Sessions Considers Second Special Counsel To Investigate Hillary, Clinton Foundation

The Washington Post reports:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is entertaining the idea of appointing a second special counsel to investigate a host of Republican concerns — including alleged wrongdoing by the Clinton Foundation and the controversial sale of a uranium company to Russia — and has directed senior federal prosecutors to explore at least some of the matters and report back to him and his top deputy, according to a letter obtained by The Washington Post.

The revelation came in a response by the Justice Department to an inquiry from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), who in July and again in September called for Sessions to appoint a second special counsel to investigate concerns he had related to the 2016 election and its aftermath.

The list of matters he wanted probed was wide ranging but included the FBI’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, various dealings of the Clinton Foundation and several matters connected to the purchase of the Canadian mining company Uranium One by Russia’s nuclear energy agency.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Bring it on. Hillary doesn’t mind being in the news. But while you’re at it, let’s look at the Trump foundation.

    • TampaDink

      As well as his taxes.

    • Tawreos

Why would prosecutors look in the place they are most likely to find a crime?

    • Todd20036

I don’t think that foundation even exists anymore after it was revealed that Trump took money from the foundation to buy self portraits.

    • JCF

“Trump foundation”: you misspelled “slush fund”.

  • Chanel5

Looks like the nasty elf is trying to get back in Papa Putin’s good graces.

  • Tawreos

I hope those senior federal prosecutors all looked at him and said “Are you fucking kidding me?”.

    • clay

I hope at least only of them looked at him and said “Are you a fucking felonious piece of shit?”

      • JCF

        Or “Rubber/Glue, Drumpfian Muthafuckas!”

  • ted-

What the actual fuck is wrong with this elf?! Go back to baking cookies you fucktard! Quit wasting American taxpayers money.

    • Bambino

Remember this is the guy who tried prosecuting a women twice for laughing at him.

      • ted-

So…he’s a big of a loser as our orange POS POTUS.

    • clay

He doesn’t actually know what the word “recused” means; he just likes the way it sounds.

    • canoebum

This is coming directly from Trump.

  • Joe in PA

Isn’t he going to be testifying before congress today? This should be good.

    • TampaDink

Ooh…that’s right! Should be a fun thread when that happens.

    • Tawreos

There is something magical about watching an elf get grilled.

    • clay

“Tell me, Attorney General, have you stopped perjuring yourself?”

  • TampaDink

Maybe getting focused on another bullshit investigation into Hillary will keep him in office rather than him going back to his senate seat, which will allow hair furor the chance to get a new A.G. who won’t recuse himself & will kill the collusion investigations.

  • Bambino

It’s the same old tactic of muddying the water by going after irrelevant party what this administration is being investigated for.

    • clay

It’s worse than just that. This isn’t a congressional investigation, this is an Attorney General who is recused from anything having to do with the campaign he helped run using the FBI to go after a former political opponent. This is seriously beyond Watergate.

      • SkokieGuy [ChicagoAdjacentGuy]

And has lied how many times under oath about his involvement with Russia?

        • clay

and his involvement with the campaign.

        • Xuuths

If the Senate/House GOP won’t prosecute him for perjury, Sessions can get away with claiming under oath to be a Black NBA center for the Knicks!

        • JCF

You got the live-ticker going? Keebler’s under oath Right Now.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

And they start this BS witch hunt at their own peril.

  • Talisman

    Jesus fucking Christ.

    • Tawreos

The natural first reaction to any news out of this administration.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

      Holy fuck

      • JCF

  • Rebecca Gardner
    • Joe in PA

Indeed! That is me most days.

      • Todd20036

The nails will go in faster if you use a hammer. Just saying.

  • crewman

Maybe the Attorney General needs to quit being a presidential appointment.

    • clay

Maybe the Attorney General shouldn’t be confirmed if he ran presidential campaign meetings.

  • Bambino

O/T and if you think the state supported Christian pedophile can’t be more repulsive…

    • Todd20036

Does that mean the employee got off?
Yes, I see the double entendre’

  • TampaDink

What next, a special counsel investigation of Obama’s birth certificate & college transcripts? More delving into every woman Bill Clinton has ever been alone in a room with? How about we get to the bottom of how someone who claims to be such a devout Christian would give an interview with an adult magazine…and since Carter confessed to lusting in his heart, we must get to the bottom of that too!
Ugh. These assholes will try anything to distract the public from all of the horrific shit that this criminal administration is pulling.

    • Tawreos

Please don’t give them more fucked up ideas. =)

      • TampaDink

I see your point but there is nothing that they won’t accuse Democrats of in order to distract the public.

        • prixator

Distraction, deflection, distortion and projection. It’s all they have left (that’s legal).

Oh, and I forgot – just outright lying.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

I think Al Gore is fertile ground for investigations! Poor Al. He’s the democrat nobody villifies

      • Vista-Cruiser

Yes they certainly do. Anytime the words “internet” or “climate change” come up.

  • Kevin Andrews

Little lying Jethro Demented Sessions is head and shoulders up the Shitgibbon’s ass and without any redeeming qualities. Why hasn’t this demonstrated lying Top Cop been charged with the Felony counts of Treason, Sedition and lying to the Senate?
The contempt of We The People is clear from these scum-sucking SOBs who work for their own enrichment and not the will of the people.
Treason, sedition and lying to Congress are just the tip of the iceberg of the criminal activities of this twisted traitor. Unfit for the Bench twice is the qualifications this mental midget and product of Alabama in-breeding brings to the table.

    • TampaDink

Perjury is only a crime when a Democratic politician does it.

  • TrueWords
    • clay

But . . . breasts! Just another woman taking too much power!

    • JCF

No, Keebler’s going after the Other Blonde Wicked* Ice Queen.

      * And allegedly Lesbian.

  • Bluto

Oh for fuck sakes! How many more Hillary witch hunts based on lies?!

  • TrueWords
  • Tatonka

More abuses of power. Impeach the mother fucker.

  • Michael R

    Interesting fact :
Hillary isn’t the cause of all this Russia collusion .

  • Kevin Andrews

When one looks at the reality of the Shitgibbon’s treason the fact that Hillary worked exclusively for the Israeli is moot. She lost the election she rigged and Goldman-Sachs owns the White House in either event. Look to the root of the problem and remove the dual citizens from any political office or Government post.

    • clay

Only one person on Hillary Clinton’s campaign team had ever worked for Goldman-Sachs– the ghost-writer of the Dodd-Frank bill. Take your anti-Semitic bullshit to the Nazis who care.

      • Kevin Andrews

The Fake Khazar, the Ashkinazi Jews you resemble have to get the Hell out of the United States and take their Rothschild’s New World Order and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Your willingness to deny free speech and truth defines you as the enemy and I’ll do everything in my power to shut down your pure ignorant bigoted troll rant. Hillary Clinton’s emails made her Israeli loyalty clear in: “We must take out Libya to keep Israel safe.”. Add that to the traitors signing the AIPAC Pledge and the jew perversion is perfectly transparent. Go to schul and learn something for a change.

    • Tawreos

Русские тролли должны оставаться в России

    • Priya Lynn

      I call russian troll.

  • Smokey

Did I miss an announcement? Is Hillary running for some office? Is she a candidate? Is the Clinton foundation the subject of a lawsuit?
    Oh, FFS!

  • OdieDenCO

awe, that’s cute. little jeffy is following little donny’s play book, when in trouble throw squirrel.

  • Bambino

Detective 101: There is only so many times you can point a finger at the same person before you being seen as the prime suspect of the investigation.

  • SkokieGuy [ChicagoAdjacentGuy]

Emails, sure, but their not re-opening investigations into Whitewater? Pussies!

    • Joe in PA

And I don’t think we REALLY know what happened to Vince Foster…just saying.

      • Reality.Bites

I’ve long known Watergate was McGovern’s idea.

        • Joe in PA

Pffft, don’t blame me, I voted for John Anderson. Sidebar: I had to refresh my memory about John and found this tidbit:

He won support among Rockefeller Republicans, independents, liberal intellectuals, and college students.

          Well yes. 🙂

  • AmeriCanadian

    Deflection flection, what’s your direction?

    • Lizard

Hooking up spies, and Russian collusion!

  • chris james

    Look….look….squirrels everywhere!

  • j.martindale

They aren’t interested in an investigation. They want an inquisition.

    • clay

They’re neither ideologically consistent enough nor hierarchically structured enough to survive their own inquisition. They’d eat/primary their own seeking a non-existent orthodoxy.

  • The_Wretched

Isnt Sessions testifying to Congress soon? And, this BS investigation may be another out to the obstruction charge.

  • BlindBill

so they really are a one-trick pony …. but lets reduce the executive budget by an amount equal to the cost of re-re-investigation, since the call for the investigation is coming from that branch of government.

  • TheGrandWazoo2

    →look over there↓
    ↑look over there←

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

    • JCF

Oooh, likey! Where dya get those spiffy arrows?

  • netxtown

“If we don’t have a bright shiny object to deflect attention, by gawd we will make one!”

  • canoebum

Trump is more vindictive than Nixon. This is pure evil. The traitor must be impeached, along with his toady accomplice in crime Pence.

    • BearEyes

I have to believe tRump still holds his first grudge.

    • boatboy_srq

tRump is the private-sector evil to Nixon’s public-sector malevolence. Nixon showed us what evil looks like in the WH: tRump is showcasing what evil from the boardroom does when introduced to that residence.

  • boatboy_srq

Conservatist jurisprudence: when investigating liebrul FascoSoshulists, if you didn’t find anything then you didn’t dig deep enough. (Converse: when investigating Gut Patriotische Ahmurrrkkkans, their word is good enough that they didn’t do nuffin’.)

  • Ernest Endevor

Will they drive past the Trump DC hotel to get to the committee rooms?

But hey, just as we see women come forward to fight back against powerful men now would be a great time to publicly persecute Hillary Clinton, thereby turning her into a national hero, so I say go for it.

  • DesertSun59

Pure, unadulterated deflection. The 45 admin knows for a fact that Mueller’s hammer is about to drop bigly. They need the media focused on a fake story so that their voters won’t bail. That’s it. Nothing else.

  • Ok. But unlike Trump, there will be cooperation instead of obstruction since there’s nothing there. Dotards!

  • Leo

The Sessions/Rosenstein recusal/tense conundrum needs to stay where it’s at so Mueller’s investigation isn’t disturbed. If the lawyers want Jeff to get a new counsel to start that investigation, fine. At this point, all this hand-wringing on “BANANA REPUBLIC” and precedent is noise, we’re already there. If they want to waste taxpayer money on no case, have at it.

  • Acronym Jim

So, all along the Republicans have known about this supposed (and thoroughly debunked) malfeasance by Hillary, but they chose to investigate Benghazi eleven times instead?

    Sure Jan.

  • CB

    Your taxpayer dollars at work.

    • JCF

Also: I learned today from Congresswoman Jackie Speer, that if a plaintiff actually WINS a sexual harrassment case against anyone in Congress, inc staff (and it’s hard as hell to do that)…

…WE, the taxpayers, foot the bill! >:-(

  • Acronym Jim

Report: “Donald Trump, Jr. has been found to have worked with Wikileaks in releasing hacked DNC documents. This could put him in the position of being prosecuted for violating state privacy laws. Laws which are exempt from the President’s pardon powers.”

    Republicans: “Squillary!!!”

  • ceeenbee

“The list of matters he wanted probed was wide ranging but included the FBI’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state . . .”

    By all means.

. . . and while you’re at it herr jeffrey, why don’t you lump all the people in the shitgibbon administration in there who use(d) private email servers? We wouldn’t want them to feel left out, would we?

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

Seriously, motherfuckers. I say that the next Dem administration should go on the warpath with past assholes like George W., Cheney and every single GOPer it really should have gone after. I’m so sick of dems trying to be stupidly nicey-nice and not returning fire.

  • worstcultever

Doesn’t elf meet up again with the Al Franken Committee today? Is he really ready to be sliced, diced, filleted, julienned, eviscerated, and ground to a fine paste?

  • TominDC

I’ll go with “How to fire up the Dem base for a bigger 2018 wave for $100,” Alex.

    • JCF

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Go for it. I can only think all this partisan play & abuse of power will pile up and do nothing but help us in 359 days.

  • drbrentzenobia

An unprecedented misuse of the special counsel. Why is one needed given that the Clintons are not in government anymore and pose no particular challenge to a normal investigation by a normal federal attorney? Only one reason: Trump couldn’t get the Justice Department to do his political bidding so now they are contemplating an end run around it. This will set a terrible precedent and after a moment’s reflection some of the Republicans must realize that if this stands then they can expect the next Democratic administration to return the favor.

No justice on the Supreme Court would be safe either.

  • Halou

He knows that Trump has it in for him so tries to play the far-right deflection game.

  • William

    “Look over there!”

  • Lizard

For all the bitching and moaning conservatives do about “wasting taxypayer money,” they’re sure happy to waste it on worthless investigations of their political opponents.

I mean, go for it. They won’t find anything. But Christ, they’re hypocrites.

  • sadoldguy

This is just a photo op (video op?).

Lots of fiery speeches about the scary Hillary that make their fans happy, but they never get to the evidence part.

Same thing they did with Obama care “repeal and replace” and their tax plans. All talk with no substance behind it.

  • LeeCMH

Just go ask Richard Nixon, via Ouija board, about obstruction.

    He is “not a crook.”

  • Westcoast88

Just a lot of smoke and mirrors. They won’t find anything.
Now, if they investigate the Trump Foundation, that’s another story.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

And yet the congress and senate will gleefully play along because, for them. it’s Party before Country. The sad irony that the party that wraps itself in the flag, proclaiming it’s love of country, is the one tearing it all down…even St. Raygun must be spinning in his shallow, dank grave.

  • Vista-Cruiser

Yes this is disgusting. But it’s also a direct and foreseeable result of Democratic-leaning Americans not bothering to vote in elections.

  • Kruhn

Lock Her Up… Because she’s a woman who had the audacity to run against a sexual harasser with no experience is temperament to run a bridge club, much less a country and call him about it!

  • JaniceInToronto

The ‘thuglicans must be running scared if this is the best they can come up with.

  • Sessions is considering this to throw a bone to Trump and get Trump off his “fire Sessions”:feelings. Jeff ought to be very careful who he appoints – perhaps he could get Trey Gowdy out of the House of Representatives so he can continue to find nothing wrong with Hillary in so many things he has already exhaustively probed.

  • JCF
