Senate Group Cuts Funding Ties To Roy Moore

The Daily Beast reports:

A day after explosive allegations of sexual assault surfaced against Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore, the Republican Party’s senate campaign arm has severed financial ties with the embattled former state supreme court justice.

A joint fundraising committee benefitting Moore and a handful of Republican Party organs filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday removing the National Republican Senatorial Committee as one of its beneficiaries.

Going forward, the committee’s fundraising will benefit Moore’s Senate campaign, the Alabama Republican Party, and the Republican National Committee but not the NRSC.

  • bkmn

They really don’t want him in the Senate.

    • GayOldLady

They didn’t want him in the Senate before this happened.

      • Johnny Wyeknot

That’s why I do, in a perverse sort of way.

        • GayOldLady

Now Johnny, that’s a bad perversion and you need to quit it. 🙂

          • Johnny Wyeknot

Certainly one of my least fun ones ..,

    • Treant

If this doesn’t take him down, maybe we can expect more allegations to mysteriously appear at the Washington Post office with a return address identical to the RNC…

      • Paula

That was my thought. Perhaps. the repubs are behind this. It would be better to have a Dem than Roy Moore.

    • Tawreos

He thinks he speaks for god and that does not make it likely that he will listen to the money men that control the GOP and that makes him a problem.

      • Peggy

    • GeneInSJ

The establishment Republicans hate him almost as much as we do.

And if this scandal is a lie, well, he’ll know how Hillary felt.

    • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

It’s one thing I’ll agree with them on.

    • JCF

No, they really don’t want Moore to REPRESENT the GOP, in every Democratic ad from here on out!

      • David L. Caster

Exactly. The GOP has suddenly become aware of their own political odor.

    • teeveedub

Perhaps it’s also that they secretly believe Moore’s victims and are afraid that more evidence will be revealed to confirm their allegations. What would Republican senators’ chances for re-election be if their opponents can point to their support of Moore? The opponents’ TV ads would practically write themselves.

  • crewman

Moore is such a total asshole and child molester. He flaunts the law and lies with a glee. How did Trump not back him?

    • AmeriCanadian

  • Ninja0980

They did the same with Todd Akin yet started giving him $$$ towards the end of his Senate Campaign.
I don’t trust any of these guys/gals for squat.

    • GayOldLady

They’re trying to get their imprimatur off the stink.

    • AlternativeQuacks

Moore has actually been using the Washington Post story for fundraising.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

      Politics =not= trust

  • Tawreos

Ouch, that is hitting a republican where it hurts the most. I think this is a good development.

  • Judas Peckerwood

When you’re too icky for the GOP establishment…

  • Treant

That’s nice. Call me when the Alabama Republican Party cuts all funding, as well as the RNC.

At this point, they’re just introducing a separate layer between their money and Roy Moore, and it gets there anyway–it just takes longer and more gets grifted off at each step.

  • HZ81

Why? He’s a family values child molester, libtards!

    • another_steve

Donald Trump – a fellow molester — agrees.

“I did try and fuck her. She was married.”

      • HZ81

        These are our best Americans.

        • coram nobis

Except for any tarts with Russian accents.

  • another_steve

Alabama Republicans should secede from the United States.

    Can they do that?

    • Tawreos

They are welcome to leave. I hear the island from Lost is available and lovely this time of year.

    • Grumpy Old Man

They and their friends already tried that – it did not go well for them.

  • PR

Throw Alabama in to the gulf of mexico.

    • Bambino
    • FelineMama

I understand your feelings, PR, but the Gulf has suffered enuf. Maybe Russia will buy it (Alabama) Package deal including drumph. NO questions asked!!

    • another_steve

But first rescue the nice Alabamians who read and comment here.

      We love you, nice Alabamians.

      We feel your pain.

      • Johnny Wyeknot

        And those who read

      • Tawreos

“…the nice Alabamians who read and comment here”

Are there any Alabamans that read and don’t comment here?

        • Dazzer

Isn’t a criminal offence if they find you can read AND write in Alabama?

      • Snarkaholic

And please drive to your nearest college campus and urge the students to vote against this low-life!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Hang on now, what did the Gulf of Mexico ever do to deserve that?

  • boobert

One of the few people that make cruz appear likable !

    • another_steve

      Lol. Astute observation, boobert. 😉

Just as Donald Trump has made Bush the Idiot from Texas seem, in comparison, like a statesman, a Senator Moore will make Senator Cruz seem like a sane and decent man.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

    Obviously homophobic hate doesn’t count.

  • Professor Barnhardt

Jim Hoft is on the case:

It must be true; it’s on another Twitter account too:

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Well of course he is. It’s what disgraced nelly queens do when they can’t get laid; they throw hissy fits and attempt to throw drunken shade all while being a nasty not-at-all-hot mess.

      • Paula Key

This woman told her mother and friends that were 16-18 years of age. More will come out of the woodwork.

    • Treant

      I have a fuckin’ headache.

      • JaniceInToronto

        You need Heroin®

        • Treant

I have plenty, the book I’m reading has a really strong and capable heroine…

    • AmeriCanadian

A friend of a friend of a friend of a…

      • Professor Barnhardt

        What are friends for?

To save you some time, here’s part of the breathless account at GP. You can’t get much more authoritative than this:

A Navy veteran who served 22 years for his country and then served in the Secret Service claims a family friend who lives in Alabama told his wife that a Washington Post reporter “named Beth” approached her and offered her THOUSANDS to accuse Judge Roy Moore of inappropriate sexual advances!

        • Treant

          Booty calls.

          • AmeriCanadian

I assume, then, you have a lot of friends. 😉

        • Adam King

So now 1000$ has morphed into thousands$.

      • Grumpy Old Man

        a FOAF of a FOAF…

    • The_Wretched

Fully expected FUD / counter programming to confuse the rubes and ‘both sides’ the issue. There will be no evidence or public testimony forthcoming.

    • crewman

      “offered her 1000$ to accuse”

Wait, is this the same person who always tells us about a friend who makes 97$ working for Google?

      • Tulle Christensen

Wait that is how Europeans write it. this is a Russian tweet

        • Tulle Christensen

if you ever see 100$ or the date as 21/11/17 that post was not written by an American

          • Adam King

Or it was written by a semi-literate American.

      • Taylor Bixler

You know who writes dollar amounts as 1000$? Real Americans. 🇷🇺🐻🇷🇺🐻

      “Alabama Woman Claims”

On the other hand, say HER name: Leigh Corfman!!!!

    • Bad Tom

Washington Post article with 30 sources, or an anonymous Twitter account retweeted by The Stupidest Man on the Internet.

      I’ll take WaPo, please.

  • Ninja0980
Since this guy is my Rep, let me just say for most of these folks, “moderate” means we won’t say out loud the things about abortion, LGBT rights, worker rights etc. that our colleagues in areas like Alabama, Idaho, Oklahoma can say.
The only true moderates mentioned in this article were both former reps to the north of me, Sherwood Boehlert and Richard Hanna, the latter of whom has been very, very vocal about what has happened to the Republican Party here in NY and has been called a traitor for daring to do so.
Katko is a right wing hack, and one whom will likely be voted out next year if what happened in NY on Tuesday night is any indication.

  • The_Wretched

It’s a PR move. I don’t see this having a substantial impact overall.

  • Sam_Handwich
    • Tread

      Broken clock, and all that.

      • Adam King

If you ignore the predatory capitalism, the flip-flopping, the lying, the occasional sociopathic decision-making, Rmoney occasionally has a flicker of pseudo-decency. And he’s gearing up for a Senate race, so there are appearances to start constructing.

  • MikeBx2

False and misleading? Isn’t that like saying “I never did what they said I did, except that one time…”

    • MikeBx2
    • AmeriCanadian

False and misleading. Kind of like new and improved. Didn’t know something could be both at the same time.

And like the Southern Gentleman that I am, why, I asked her mother to accompany us on every date.

      • Adam King

        For a three-way.

  • boatboy_srq

So, without that backing, Moore will return to impoverishing the rubes in search of his latest perch for enhancing his White Hetero Xtianist Elect Specialness?

  • MikeBx2
  • jimbo65

Gee they cut him off. Why does that sound familiar? Last year their POTUS candidate was caught red handed admitting sexually assaulting women and still won. Then they kissed his ass ever since.

II wonder if it’s this Carroll Bryant, the author of YA fiction who made the moves on a 17 year old while in his forties…..

        • marshlc

Yeah, it’s the same guy. Take a look at his blog, he’s clearly got anger issues. He really goes to town in the comment section. Has some odd ideas about what constitutes socialism, too….

Way to build your career as an author of YA fiction, bud. That tweet is going to be the first thing any parent who googles your name sees, from now on.

      So to reiterate.
Carol Con Nazi that what she has is a moral and ethical bias based on her own self HATE.

  • Stogiebear

I’ve read Joe’s quote several times as well as the entire article. I just don’t see it.

It looks to me as though a local committee that’s backing Moore has actually cut off funding to the RNC’s senate fundraising entity.

    Maybe someone can clarify.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Yeah, in reality, it just means Moore-lovers and Alabama Goopers are keeping more of their own money.

The FU is from Alabama politicos and aimed towards the “Establishment” Republican Party, with the NRSC now being cut off from the sweet tea of Alabammy-centered rapey cash. Not sure how it hurts Moore at all, unless NRSC money was flowing his way previously (perhaps matching funds?).

  • Grumpy Old Man

I really like that pic – seems to show he has just one tooth on his lower jaw.

    • Adam King

      He calls his tooth “Snagglepuss.”

Better check the December 12 TV schedule.

    Any Alabamans in the house?

Someone really should go to the public Library in Birmingham and look at the microfilms from the local paper in the late ’70s. Get the names of reporters on the local beat back them from the masthead or story bylines. Contact them and ask them if they heard rumors about Moore and teenagers back in the day.

I’m sure a juicy follow-up story is just waiting to be told.

  • TominDC

I wonder – can McConnell/Schumer refuse to let someone caucus with them?

Not that I expect the republicans will be principled enough to do that should Moore win, but it’s nice to think that it could happen.

  • Dale Snyder

A right-winged republican christian sexual predator.
