T-Shirt: “I Stand For The National Anthem”

This image is going viral via Deadspin:

This man at Sunday’s Patriots-Jets game respects the United States and its national anthem so much that he turned the country’s flag into a picnic blanket. Reader Marshall spotted the patriot, who is better than all of us, at the Jets’ stadium.

“Basically, me and my friend were walking around the stadium sometime during the 3rd quarter. There is a huge tv screen by the food carts right inside the stadium where people gather to watch. We went over there to check it out and we saw him spread the flag out and sit down.”

  • Judas Peckerwood

That’s nothing — he also wipes his ass with the Constitution.

    • Lumpy Gaga

      Please don’t squeeze the Constitution.

  • Cipher

These people are so full of shit that I feel bad for shit.

  • Mark Née Fuzz

Anyone wanna bet he’s got shart stains too?

    • Don’t even joke about that. There’s a disturbing number of men who apparently either don’t know to wipe their ass, or think touching their ass will make them gay so they don’t. It’s gross…

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

Lack of hygiene and insecurity in your manhood is a VERY different creature from a “shart”. Sharts are equal opportunity. Anyone who’s let off a little gas to relieve pressure, only to have it turn into a “ohmigawd THAT can happen?” moment understands. shart = shitty fart, usually unexpected.

        • But for men like this? I’m fairly certain lack of hygene is also true.

          • UrsusArctos 🐻

Oh yeah, but upthread the comment was about a shart stain.
Plain old nasty is awful. It’s a shame someone didn’t raise their son right. Any adult that is afraid to clean their ass fails as an adult.

      • FAEN

Wait what? There are men who think touching their ass makes them gay? LMAO! O M G how the hell do they function.

      • Ham

Yes! like those weird guys at the gym who bend over, spread their checks into the shower spray to wash off but wouldn’t be caught dead actually touching their own assholes.

      • CottonBlimp

I’ve never understood how track marks are a thing. How do these gross fucks not know how to wipe they buttholes?

          • petewestcentral

That was really interesting. I loved the story about the guy who left the toilet seat up at all times. Reminded me of childhood, when I was always looking around for signs saying “DO walk on the grass.”

      • The_Wretched

I hope that’s an exaggerated post. My wife makes fun of me for using soap and water in the tub to clean after.

He probably stood on the flag during the anthem as well so he wouldn’t get (artificial) grass stains on his new sneakers.

There is that black stuff they groom artificial grass with…it could stain his purdy white sole(s).

They do give you lids for your beer at some stadiums so you don’t spill it on people on your way back to your seat. Never saw anyone use a straw, however.

    • JoeMyGod

Also all stadium beer is draft because bottles can become weapons.

      USA! USA! USA!

      • Karl Dubhe

When I was in the Canadian Navy, there was an incident when a US ship requested some beer. We sent them our empties. They filled them with liquid and threw them back at us. 😀

          Hopefully the liquid wasn’t gasoline.

          • Karl Dubhe

            No, no it wasn’t. 🙂

Didn’t do much harm either, the cans hit the hull. We’re allies, remember?

        • Nowhereman

I’m guessing the liquid was used beer?

Lady, you can sing the national anthem only if you can hit the high note on “free” and stay in tune–but just in the terminal; you can’t sing once the plane is in the air. People can look at you funny and walk away in the terminal, but they’re trapped in the plane with you once it takes off.

    In case you haven’t heard:

    WASHINGTON
    — Two leading senators have reached a bipartisan deal to provide funding for critical subsidies to health insurers that President Trump said last week that he would cut off, Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, said Tuesday.

Theplan agreed to by Mr. Alexander and Senator Patty Murray of Washington,
a Democrat, is intended to stabilize health insurance markets under the
    Affordable Care Act.

As one part of the deal, the subsidies would be funded for two years, a step that would provide at least short-term certainty to insurers. The subsidies, known as cost-sharing reductions, lower out-of-pocket costs for low-income consumers.

And another case of kicking the can down the road for somebody else to fix. Democrats, vote in 2018, so we can do this right!

        • ultragreen

Democrats in Congress already had a chance to fix the problems of our health care system (it’s called single-payer health care), but it didn’t happen because they don’t support it.

          • canoebum

Please stop the griping. That cake wasn’t baked in 2009. The ACA was always intended to be a first step toward universal coverage, and considering the money spent to stop it, the Democrats deserve a lot of credit for getting it passed and signed into law at all. Your whining about the Democrats only sows dissension.

          • CottonBlimp

That’s how I felt at the time. In hindsight, they couldn’t get anything fillibuster-proof passed without piece-of-shit Lieberman, and he was steadfast against any real, effective solution like single payer. But it’s amazing to me how successfully the ACA changed the conversation, now with even most conservatives against GOP health care reforms.

          • kareemachan

And what did you do to try to help the situation?

      • ultragreen

Trump is already proclaiming that he supports it. He just wants a health care bill to sign so he can declare victory and move on to something else.

    • And who exactly is going to make the Trump administration actually pay out what they’re required by law to do? We’re already well into the “you can’t make me, so fuck off” phase of this cancerous presidency.

    • ultragreen

It’s doubtful that this bill will be passed by Congress. And it contains concessions to Republicans that would destabilize ObamaCare by enabling anyone over age 30 to buy stripped-down health care insurance called the Copper Plan. The Copper Plan would attract a disproportionately high number of healthy people, causing all of the other plans in ObamaCare to increase. And this bill also contains a provision that would allow the states to modify ObamaCare exchanges if it lowers the costs of the health care plans. I’m not certain what this would do, but it would probably decrease the coverage of the health care plans in the exchanges.

      • JT

        This sounds familiar.

    • kareemachan

      I heart my Senator Murray!

  • Kruhn

I saw some Trumpanzee downtown Baltimore this Sunday with that same shirt. I wanted to make one with the caption “Fine, You Stand for the Flag. I won’t” and on the back, “You’ve got a problem with peacefully assembling and petition to redress grievances?”

    • kareemachan

It would take them too long to read and comprehend it, unfortunately.

  • Lars Littlefield

“But I sit down to drink and fart on our flag. Hey, priorities.”

  • What? Y’all were expecting something other than rank hypocrisy?

The whole bullshit thing about ordering NFL players to stand for the anthem is all about putting African American men in their place as SERVANTS to men literally referred to as their teams OWNERS.

    It’s the racism, stupid.

    • Lumpy Gaga

      And there’s a FIELD involved.

They should just start the damn things with a dog whistle.

    • Phillip in L.A.

Hi BeccaM! Didn’t these particular “servants” CHOOSE their careers? Aren’t they PAID MILLIONS by the teams’ “owners”? Are they ALL really African-American men? Can they CHOOSE to LEAVE whenever they want?

Of course there is racism and hypocrisy involved–as there is in EVERY part of American society and culture. But in my opinion, you are conflating two things that are not really comparable (isn’t this sometimes referred to as “false equivalence”?)

      • CottonBlimp

Didn’t these particular “servants” CHOOSE their careers?

Just because the sports industry isn’t literally slavery doesn’t mean it isn’t creepy as fuck seeing fat white rich shits ordering around “their” players.

And whether or not the players “chose” is slightly complicated by how few opportunities there are for certain communities of black youth. Playin sportsball is the only way a large number of people can afford college.

        • Phillip in L.A.

          Agree with everything you said!

You know what bothers me? So many of the new TV shows are “patriotic” and jingoistic. I do NOT like the direction this is going.

  • AmeriCanadian

My father, who fought in WWII, would have gone ballistic upon seeing this. He was adamant that the U.S. flag was to NEVER touch the ground. We had a flag pole in front of our house where I grew up and he would raise and lower the flag every day. He said it was not supposed to fly at night unless it was lit.

    • And never, ever left out in the rain if at all possible.

      • AmeriCanadian

That’s right. I forgot about that. All these rules back then that are pretty much ignored today.

        • Yep. The day I saw some pseudo-patriot wearing a US flag shirt, I knew those rules meant nothing to the people who insisted everybody else had to follow them.

The other irony of course is nearly every American flag is now made in China.

      • coram nobis

The reason you don’t leave it in the rain is, as anybody who has been on sailboats can tell you, that wet cloth flapping in the rain will fray a lot faster — and the rain usually comes with wind. That’s $30 or so of nylon flag that will wear out a lot faster.

    • fkevin

Yes, that’s the way I was taught. Also, not to fly it in rain, and the flag had to be folded properly every single time. We were told we would have to burn the flag if it touched the ground and start all over with a new one, but I think that was added just to instill a little more awe & respect. 😉

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Quite right. The tradition dates back to when England, when still an Empire, flew its banner. The notion was that “the sun never sets on the Empire” and thus the banner/flag was always in the light. It’s a tradition that carries on to this day in many former colonies and current commonwealth nations. Also, as fkevin noted, when aged or damaged (not sure about the touching on the ground part), the flag is to be burned and replaced.

    • You was brung up right!

What burns me is the car dealerships on the freeway with a row of torn up flags flying in the rain and at night. That is so not patriotic.

      • kareemachan

And the teabaggers who made the flag into everything but a diaper – and maybe that as well. Such patriotism sucks.

The anthem protests may be having an effect.

The analyst said CBS’ Sunday NFL ratings are down 17 percent year over year during the first several weeks of the football season, according to the report. Sheikh released a similar report last week on Twenty-First Century Fox’s earnings, which he also expects to disappoint thanks to weaker ratings by the NFL.

Attendance is down, merchandise sales are down.

  • What respect for the flag, placing one’s arse on it and covering it in grass stains.

  • andrew

Who brings a big flag to a football game? What guy, especially one wearing that shirt, wouldn’t know that putting the flag on the ground and then sitting on it is totally disrespectful? I get the feeling that he is deliberately making some sort of statement although, I have no clue what it could be. Or maybe he’s just a jerk.

They make many, many kinds of beach towels and blankets with the usa flag on them.

I’d be more offended that they make some of them out of microfiber.

    • SDG

If you against “desecrating the flag”, would it matter if it were a towel or not? Just wondering.

      • leastyebejudged

I personally don’t think of any flag as much more than cloth.

    • PhillyProfessor

Yes, They do make beach tiles and blankets with the USA flag on them. They also make bikinis and other articles of clothing

What I can’t stand, aside from microfiber, is the way the Deeply Offended pick and choose. They are Deeply Offended at the way liberals, under Obama, have destroyed our Constitutional Rights. Yet when push comes to shove they really only care about a couple of them, and don’t mind trashing the rest – especially when it comes to the freedom of non-christian religious expression. They do it with the Bibles they revere, picking and choosing what sins to become Nationally Inflamed about, and brushing aside all the “turn the other cheek” and the “render unto Caesar..” And here they do it with Flag code. Wanting to punish others for not honoring their particular “pick and choose” choices.

      • leastyebejudged

Well, you’re assuming the person in question laying on the towel tends to get “deeply offended”.

I see no indication anywhere of that, but what I do see here, as is usual, is manufactured outrage.

    • A beach towel is not a flag, even if it’s decorated as such. An official flag is an official flag (eyelets and all) and it’s just wrong to scream respect when you disrespect out of lazy cleanliness.

  • MonochromeMouse

Ah luvz the flag so much ah rub mah sweaty ass all ovuh it!

  • A. The flag should NEVER touch the ground, EVER!
    B. It’s not a fncking beach towel so we NEVER sit on the flag, EVER!
    C. Lazy fncking righty-whiteys.

  • Blobby

as much as I love it – it looks horribly photoshopped.
