Fox News Host Wonders If 9/11 Memorials Will Suffer The Same Fate As Confederate Memorials [VIDEO]

Mediaite reports:

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke appeared on Fox & Friends Monday morning — on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks — ahead of remarks he is set to deliver alongside Vice President Mike Pence at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

And Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade seized at the opportunity…to tie the 9/11 memorial to the highly politicized debate surrounding the removal of Confederate statues in the U.S. “Do you worry 100 years from now that someone’s going to try and take that memorial down like they’re trying to remake our memorials today?” Kilmeade asked.

After a pause, in which Zinke appeared to digest the absurdity of Kilmeade’s question, he said he believes that “we should learn from our country’s history.”

  • Tiger Quinn

I hate this administration so fucking much.

    • Lakeview Bob

      So do I.

    • Octoberfurst

      All normal, decent people do.

  • Fritz Keppler

Only those which memorialize the perpetrators.

    • Reality.Bites

So… no statues of Dick Cheney? Sold.

      • Todd20036

        Statues of dick OTOH…

        • Silver Badger

Had to Google it.: On the other hand.

        • Reality.Bites

It would be really cool if they had a statue of Dick Van Dyke doing chalk drawings at some London park.

  • DaddyRay

The Butthurt is strong with with one

He was born in Montana and went to university in Oregon and California.

So a true son of the South then?

  • Smokey
  • Rex

The deplorability level at Fox News has no ceiling.

    • kaydenpat

Fox News needs to be in quotes. It’s nothing remotely resembling news.

      • Rex

        Fixed it for ya.

        • kaydenpat

Thanks. Lol. Good on Joe for watching this b.s. so we don’t have to.

    • Galvestonian

There is no level at all – it’s bottomless and still sinking.

    • greenmanTN

Fox News had a glass floor instead, a level past which they would not sink. Bill O’Reilly shattered it his first day on the air.

  • JW Swift

Right. Because they are exactly the same thing. /s

  • Boy Elvis

    Dear Fox & Friends,

It would only be equivalent if the 9/11 memorials glorified the terrorists.

P.S. You’re all a bunch of fucking idiots.

    • kaydenpat

Annoying and idiotic which is not a great combination. Zinke’s response was also weak.

      • RaygunsGoZap

        True. Should have said:

If some American somewhere had erected a memorial to the men who carried out the plot, we should pull that down today and not wait for 100 years. Terroriats – like traitors – don’t get memorials.

        • Alternatively: “Monuments to people who tried to save our country will stay up. Perhaps not so for monuments to people who tried to tear the country apart.”

    • Steverino

Critical thinking skills (this issue a classic example of a false equivalency) are particularly lacking in the conservative mind.

    • Uncle Mark

Instead of inquiring about this asinine moral equivalency that no one is making, perhaps on 9/11, they should be talking about the terrorist attack on our democracy by Russia.

      • Nowhereman

Oh but that’s OK with them because it got Trump elected! (snark, but true)

    • jerry

“Nobody remembers WWII because there were no memorials to Hitler.”

    • Kruhn

First, we the LGBTQ community should be especially outraged at these fucking moron. That they had the audacity of soiling the memory of this day for a cheap political shot, especially when one of the people who took on the terrorists on Flight 93 was a gay rugby player, Mark Bingham. Those assholes need to shut their big fat divisive mouths. I’ve been to both the Federal and Skanksville town Flight 93 Memorial. I love the town’s because it is a chapel with a park with the names of the dead in a park and a statue of the airplane that crashed. Very tasteful and serene, not the bombastic, over the top memorial. I was scouring my Facebook for those pictures and found one. Here it is. In memory to you Mark, my brother on the field, and the other passenger of Flight 93, who fought bravely so others might live. To the victims of 9/11 who died tragically that day and whose lives are cheapened in efforts to score political points.

Here’s the only photo I have of the town’s memorial.

    • Nowhereman

The hugs and kisses are a nice touch!

    • wmforr

Forget about Trump’s diet cokes. Who’s drugging these guys’ Koolaid?

  • Do Something Nice

What a fucking stupid thing to say. And I think memorials ARE important – most of them anyway.

  • DaddyRay

Back then I didn’t think we could get any worse than W – I have been proven wrong

    • Rex

At the time we couldn’t imagine anyone worse. Now look where we are.

    • Galvestonian

      … the good ‘ol days.

    • DonnaLee

We were so young and naive back then….

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Both represent forces trying to overthrow the US government. So if you think the Confederate monuments should stand, then you support creating monuments to the perpetrators of 9/11.

  • Blake J Butler

🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕 one fought against the country they claimed to love, another pays respect to the 3,000 people that died while another failed president refused to take action and let a terrorist attack happen on American soil.

  • Jay Silversmith

“Equating the 9/11 memorial with Confederate monuments is like equating the hosts of Fox & Friends with news” …or like comparing brian kilmeade to an actual thought.

  • Todd20036

I remember Trump’s tweet calling his critics haters and losers on 9/11.
I’ll give Trump this much, he did his darndest to convince people he was not qualified to be president.

    • Rex

His first statement on the actual day was that he now had the tallest building in NYC (size obsessed, who cares that people died) and then he later claimed thousands were celebrating in New Jersey. But, hey, he’s the Prez now. American’s are a stupid bunch.

  • Michael R
  • another_steve

How about a monument to Fox’s pussy grabbers? There have been many.

Donald Trump could lay a wreath at it every year and grab a pussy of his own, in memory of them.

  • Rex

Do they stay awake at night thinking of the most ridiculous thing they can say the next day, or are they just so incredibly insensitive that it just comes to them on the spot?

    • DaddyRay

I think they get some sort of sick amusement out of it and compete to see who can say the most stupid, insensitive and ridiculous comment

      • AmeriCanadian

I’m sure their remuneration is directly tied to their antics as well.

      • Galvestonian

… to their stupid, insensitive and ridiculous listeners

        • dr tod

Just look at the faces behind Trump at the rallies. Fox watchers all of them. Irksome!

        Definitely has done junk impressions.

  • TrollopeReader

Doesn’t anyone have pictures this idiot sent, or something?

    • Todd20036

I really don’t want to see his dick pics.

      • TrollopeReader

nor do I … but they seem to get people out of jobs over there ….

  • GayOldLady

Brian Kilmeade knows even less about U.S. History than he does about Nuclear Fission.

  • Todd20036

The only 9/11 Memorials that would be taken down are those that stood for the terrorists, if you want to compare them to Confederate statues that glorified traitors.

  • Tomcat

Fuck you Donald, from me and MILLIONS OF OTHER AMERICANS.

  • Tomcat

9/11 remembrance day is not the day to talk of Civil war memorials.
Any more than talking about global warming during a hurricane,

  • Rex

I’m quite thankful I don’t have cable or satellite and I can’t get Fox News, even if I did I wouldn’t watch it.

Hope hicks lawyers up as russia investigation unfolds

  • Gigi

Firstly, since the people who were murdered on Flight 93 were not fighting for the right continue to own slaves the answer is no. Secondly, FU for trying to politicize the tragic events of 9/11 you vile POS!

  • ByronK

Just rename the show – Bag of Hammers and Friends.

  • DaveMiller135

I think the Fox (or Friend) should be required to explain the circumstances in which he imagines the 9/11 memorial being considered for removal. Beyond the extremely obvious, it has the additional problem of being difficult to relocate to a museum.

  • skyweaver

Dear Fox News audience – you’re being trolled on a pretty big scale. Love everyone else

  • Ken M

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms, this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides.” Compare the above tweet with this one regarding Charlottesville. Not really that much different.

That poor couch needs to get those three growths lanced, or something.

Fox and Friends advocate raising memorial to the 19 perpetrators of the 9/11/01 attacks!

  • They are not so blind as they who will not see.

  • bambinoitaliano

Just a reminder these are the fox and friends. Not the others who do not give a fuck fiends.

    • EdA

Absolutely the best illustration of a vastly preferable alternate to Faux Noise, the semi-original Fake News.

  • TexasBoy

Apparently, Fox hosts don’t see that the equivalent of the Confederate memorials, which were enemies and traitors to the US, would be the equivalent of erecting statues to honor the 9/11 hijackers and Osama Bin Laden.

  • Ken M

Veterans Day is 11/11. Let’s see if he can prove himself as below useless again.

  • Happy_Housewife

In 100 years, 911 will be a theme for a slot machine. Just like Titanic.

  • Statistics Palin

All of America wonders just how empty Brian Kilmeade’s cranium can be before it implodes from atmospheric pressure.

  • Thorn Spike

    Because stupid.

  • Halou

If there are any monuments celebrating the deeds of the 9/11 hijackers then yes, they should be taken down and destroyed.

  • It is only by conflation and their blatant disregard for anything other than their narrow, white-bread world view that even allows such things to not only be said, but to be discussed as if there were actual merit to the comparison. The hallmark of the running scared.

  • Ninja0980

They have no shame at all do they?

    • greenmanTN

      Shame is for pussies!

  • The_Wretched

Monuments to insurrectionists who lost the war – what part of history does someone need to learn?

    • Halou

It’s funny that the “she lost, get over it” mob are so stuck in their attempts to amend the outcome of the wars of 1861-65 and 1939(41)-45.

  • Gene Perry

Really? I hate when people use 9/11 to make a point … especially if their point is 1) mindk=less & 2) unrelated even remotely to 9/ll …Fox idiots.

  • Matt

How big of an idiot do you have to be to even THINK such a thing, let alone say it. Leave it to a Faux News show to prove how stupid their on-air “talent” actually is.

  • SDG

    Oh please… how stupid?

  • No More GOP.

They truly are a basket of Deplorables.

    Seriously, you won’t.

  • Robert Adams

I don’t watch FOX since I don’t have cable – just an old aluminium antenna up on the roof. So can anyone tell me, is Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade really that stupid, or is he just talking “baby-talk” to his audience?

    • David Walker

  • David Walker

Broadway Queen that I am, I’ll be listening to the original cast CD of “Come from Away.” People call it “the 9/12 musical.” Maybe after it gets started, but the first several minutes offer quite a few harrowingly personal hints of 9/11. And at least on the cast album, Giuliani isn’t even mentioned.

    • Reality.Bites

Giuliani has nothing to do with the story of Gander and 9/11. I don’t think any politicians are directed mentioned except local and probably Joey Smallwood, who was the first premier of Newfoundland when it joined Canada back in 1949.

9/11 itself is rarely referred to directly. It’s about people somewhat on the periphery, but involved far more directly than most of us.

One funny scene in the show involves a gay couple worried about the reaction they’d face in this isolated outpost in the middle of nowhere.

And of course the people reacted exactly as I’d expect a bunch of folks in rural Newfoundland to react – by starting to talk about all their gay and lesbian relatives.

This music video was directed by Cathy Jones (of Codco and This Hour has 22 Minutes) sometime back in the 80s.

  • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I’m over the Christmas marketing of this hypocrisy, and the wallowing therein.

  • grada3784

Confederate monuments are a lot more analogous to monuments to George Washington in front of Buckingham Palace or of Osama bin Laden in the Pentagon than to anything otherwise related to the 9/11 attack..

  • JWC

Kilmeade used a cheap headline grabbing statement that lays a base for FAUX news Yes they bothe represent terrorist attacks on the US One by American terrorist againt fellow aAmericans and The other by a foreign power

  • netxtown

While his choice of events was ass-nine – I have asked a similar comparison here.

Suppose at some point, xtianity collapses. This religion’s atrocities are well documented – time and time again. – of murder, torture, slavery and imprisonment – all in the spirit of their gawd. And at the time, they thought it was right.

Now – do we go through the US and knock down any and every “object” that represents xtianity? Churches. 10 commandments. Graveside crosses?

    • Reality.Bites

The South didn’t collapse. It was defeated. If it comes to the point where American Christianity is defeated in an actual war by the government of the United States, I’m not sure what will need to be done.

      • netxtown

I don’t want to see a washing of history, or the hiding an ugly truth.. Slavery and the Civil War is a horrific part of US history – nothing will ever change that. The objects erected serve to remind everyone that change is possible, change will happen, and that no one has the right or privilege to deny any other their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. (Of course, I would add a couple things to that, like sexual preference, gender identity/expression…..but all in good time…)

        • No. The memorials were erected to memorialize them, not to educate. People go to museums and read books to learn about the past. Nobody wants to hide the history, they just don’t want it to be memorialized (a form of honoring). Come visit Germany where the people are very well educated about their past, but there’s not any Adolf memorials laying around if you wanna see how it’s done.

          • netxtown

I can go for relo the items. They CAN serve as educational tools/reminders. Unfortunately, here in the US, they want it NOW, and NOW means tear it down.

      • -M-

Also no one’s trying to erase confederates from history. Just put them in proper context. If Lee had nothing to do with your town, there’s no reason for it to have a Daughters of the Confederacy funded propaganda memorial to him. If there is a prominent confederate with significant ties to the area worth noting, put them in context instead of valorizing the lost cause mythos. Plus there were plenty of Union heroes from the South who deserve to be memorialized too.

    • grada3784

Depends on whether Christianity takes up arms against the country, doesn’t it?

      • netxtown

Haven’t they? A pen can do more damage than a bullet.

        • grada3784

Not to the laws of the USA.

        • grada3784

Maybe, but not by the laws of the US.

        • grada3784

In the US, Treason is defined in the Constitution. It also can be urging the VIOLENT overthrow of the government.

Words and the pen are protected under the First Amendment, except for hate crime enhancement, which require the commission of a crime in addition.

  • Paula

    Dear FauxNews,
There is a big difference between innocents that were killed by terrorists and racist, rebellious, treasonous, hateful traitors. That’s all.🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻

    • Halou

Worth remembering the role that Fox played in drumming up controversy over the Park 51 community center, all but calling it a monument to the 9/11 attackers. Apparently it is insensitive to the friends and families of the dead to celebrate the lives and times of those who did the killing?? How fast their opinion changes when convenience comes knocking.

  • Dagoril

No, of course not, dipshit. But all of those statues honoring Osama bin Laden’s “historical contributions” will probably not survive. Wait, there aren’t any? Well good. There’s no reason to honor the memories of a bunch of traitors and terrorists.

  • juanjo54

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade has demonstrated a false equivalency that is so beyond stupid as to take one’s breath away.

  • ColdCountry

Damn but they’re a special kind of stupid!

Oh, and that tweet of Dump’s from 2011 should be retweeted now (if that’s possible, I don’t do twitter) a zillion times over.

  • Tom G

Just the memorials dedicated to the memory of those who perpetrated the act.

  • Richard B

Another false equivalency promoted by Fox News.
How the idiots at Fox News could equate the despicable monuments to confederate secessionists who sought to enslave black people to the 3,000 folks who died in a surprised terrorist attack shows just how low Rupert Murdock’s Fox News and their racist commentators have fallen into the gutter.

  • PhillyProfessor

Gee, I didn’t realize that the 9-11 memorials were dedicated to American traitors, like the confederate memorials are. As The Donald would say.. “Who knew?”

    • Nowhereman

I know, right? They act as if the confederacy is a co-existing country within the United States. It is not. Most of these monuments were put up during Jim Crow as a poke in the eye and a warning to black people not to get too “uppity”. Now they have become meccas for the neo-nazis to rally around. They have got to go. Put them in museums.

      • Igby

Exactly! Take them down and donate them to Civil War Museums.

  • Nowhereman

I wonder what the knowledge threshold is to be considered willfully ignorant enough to be a Fox “news” commenter.

  • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes
  • Astonishing intellectual power.

  • KnownDonorDad

There’s false equivalency, and there’s just complete stupidity.

  • trouble94114

  • Barry William Teske

It seems to me that Fox News is a monument to HATE.
    It must come down.

The only real connection between the Confederacy and 9/11 is that both the Confederates and the Islamic Terrorists both wanted to destroy the USA.

  • Ann Kah

I know it’s axiomatic that one should remember history and learn from it. But there has to be some sort of distinction between remembering it and simply picking at a scab. Harbored resentments are not good for anyone.
