Trump Junior Set For Closed Senate Panel Testimony

Politico reports:

The Senate Judiciary Committee has reached an agreement and set a date for Donald Trump Jr. to testify behind closed doors to the panel, the committee confirmed on Tuesday. The committee would not divulge the exact date, but another source familiar with the matter said the testimony would likely occur in the “next few weeks.”

Trump Jr. is expected to be grilled about his meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer during his father’s presidential campaign in which he was promised compromising information on Hillary Clinton.

Trump Jr. had been called to publicly testify before Senate Judiciary in July, but the president’s eldest son offered to give a private interview and provide documents to the committee’s investigators instead.

  • another_steve

Daddy is writing his testimony as we speak.

    • ceeenbee

Daddy is writing his pardon as we speak.

      • bkmn

That is where Don the Con could get into real trouble – if the pardon is granted to help cover a crime in which he was part of Lawrence Tribe thinks the case could be made for SCOTUS to overturn the pardon

      • another_steve

If Trump begins to seriously fear that charges will be filed against him and his family members, he’ll order Mueller fired.

It’ll be a political catastrophe for him and the Republican Party, but the alternative for him and his would be even worse.

        • Ninja0980

If people can’t vote, then the damage to the Republican Party will be limited at best.

          • another_steve

Voter suppression by the Republicans will soon be the major political issue of our time.

We’ve seen the beginnings of the outrage and uprising, but I predict we ain’t seen nuttin’ yet.

          • clay

They’re intentionally fucking around with the Census prep to make it even easier to discount residents in lower participation districts (you know, where there are immigrants, children, and young adults).

  • AtticusP

    Bullshit.

    This is Trump’s son.

He can lie just as well with the cameras rolling as he can behind closed doors.

    • Nick in Pasadena

Good liars are able to convince you they’re telling the truth. The Trumps are terrible liars.

      • And Don Jr in particular seems rather dim, in terms of not implicating himself or his father in public.

        • bkmn

          He is his father’s son

        • greenmanTN

I thought he was supposed to be the smart one (of,the sons).

          • trouble94114

did someone glue his mouth on upside down or something?

          • teeveedub

OMG, aside from the upside-down mouth (probably Photoshopped), will someone tell these scumbags that they’re among the 0.000000452% of males on the entire planet who have ever used Brylcreem in the last half-century? Gross.

          • greenmanTN

Is it upside down? If it is I didn’t pick the photo for that reason. Go ahead, try to find a picture of Eric where he doesn’t look like an evolutionary dead end.

          • BJORN RAGNVALDR
          • William

Damn, he used to chase parked cars.

    • Either way, it’s still under oath, public or private. Even if he doesn’t swear an oath, lying to Congress is automatically a crime, oath or no oath. And if Mueller comes out with contradictory evidence, Don Jr can be indicted for perjury or lying to Congress.

    • teeveedub

The best part of this, however, is that it’s a genetic trait with this family to lie, and to make up lies on the spot. My guess is that he’ll dig his own grave in the same way his father continues to dig his own grave — by making up one lie in the moment that contradicts the previous lie told about the same matter. Lying to the Senate or House or to the FBI or, most especially, to a grand jury carries some pretty severe criminal penalties.

  • bkmn

I hope Dir. Mueller is able to view this or at least is given a copy of any video recording so he can use it to nail Jr for lying his ass off

  • boobert

They gonna have to sell a lot of those $40 hats to cover the legal fees!

How about making it UNDER OATH this time?

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Usually when I see a photo of someone with their mouth open like that I make a joke about him wanting cock. Oh, no, not this time. He’s SO very, very hetero. And more: he’s a walking unfuckable asshole. A deadly combination, indeed.

  • JWC

Gee will Donny write him a note telling him what to say and what lies to use

  • FelineMama

Closed Doors. But of course. Well, I’m shocked & awed! The Senate Judiciary Committee ( the impartial SJC). Jr gonna be “grilled”! This is an Onion presser, right, A SNL soon to be???!!

  • Lazycrockett

    He’s not under oath, right?

  • Smokey

I’m sure it will be interesting if Mueller is able to compare a copy of the testimony to the facts and information he has already gathered.

    • Lars Littlefield

I was thinking the exact same thing.

    • Cuberly

…that and the evolving nature of their excuses for the meeting. A different excuse every day.

      • UrsusArctos

After the hearing, it’ll be all perjury, all the time, anytime Jr has to testify again or make other statements under oath. Then if 45* pardons him Jr will be eaten alive by civil suits AND have to testify against 45*.

    • kaydenpat

That may be the only good thing to come out of this “closed door testimony”.

  • neonzx

Closed testimony. If he’s not guilty, what is he afraid of?

    • SoCalGal20

NY isthe obvious location since so much money laundering and RICO activity happened there. Florida would be another obvious location since Russians seem to really like kaundering their money there but with Rs in charge, not so much.

      • JCF

Also mention the 39 States that got hacked. Virginia factors in this also (cuz DC servers are there?).

    • kaydenpat

  • McSwagg

OT, but a bit of good news. I stepped outside my NW Houston home just a minute ago and saw the sun for the first time in days. It’s not over by a long shot. The flood waters still need to drain away, but it’s improvement.

Biologically, he is her first cousin, my twin gave birth to him, but I raised him (I had legal custody), so he and his brother and sister are like brothers and sisters to my children…so yes, he’s mine and she’s mine and their relationship is sister-brother even though he came out of my twin sister instead of me. lol
Ah, Southern families…we’re always twisted… lol

Good to see you, Robincho! *hugs*

I just want everyone to be safe… I’ve got one child in Fla, two here (including the wee gayling), one at University in Illinois, and one doing her residency in New Orleans at Tulane.
I secretly wish they were all here with me, but everyone grew up and launched into life successfully, and that’s sort of the goal when you’re raising them…. *sigh*
I miss all the noise the most.

          • ZhyKitty

            OB/GYN
She does the full spectrum, and her goal is to provide full service health care to her patients.

She frequently calls me so excited to tell me about her latest tricky delivery or assist in cancer surgery or with tales of a late term abortion she assisted in.
It’s really something else. I’m so proud of her, and I’m so happy to be her “unload” person at the end of a long day or night for her at the hospital.
She sees things that would make me pass out (sometimes I feel a bit faint with just her descriptions) on a daily basis.
            LOL

      • UrsusArctos

The radar and satellite images are also showing dry air coming in on the east side, reducing rainfall. After the current rain stops in the city they should get a pretty good break. Here’s hoping things stay drier there, some of the pumping stations are still not at capacity.

    • bkmn

  • Ken M

Just so I’m clear….Behind closed doors questions?
    1) is he under oath?
    2) can he claim the 5th?
    3) will it become public after the fact?
    4) is there anyway what he says CANNOT be used as the case proceeds?

    • Treant

      1) Technically, yes, if “oath” means “lots of Republicans who don’t care if you’re lying.”
      2) Yes.
      3) Not unless it’s useful to the Republicans. So no, you’ll never hear a word.
      4) Technically no, but recordings have a magical way of getting lost in Washington.

Let’s put it this way. He’s on the inside of the huge grift machine now. You’re not.

      3 syllables… Too complex

  • What The Eff?!

    Under oath?

    • thatotherjean

No. But if he gets caught lying, he’s still in trouble, supposedly.

  • i’m so old i stil remember when treason was a High Crime, American Republicans hated Russians, fascists and “commies,” and the #1 mission of our military and intel communities was to weed out *anyone* with even a hint of a connection to any of that. sigh. those days are long gone, just like the ~40million people who died fighting in a forgotten world war opposing all that…

In those days, the darkies knew their place and the queers were in the closet.

      See what happens? /s

I keep reminding my conservative coworkers about the 80s/90s. The Soviets were the taliban / ISIS / radical terrorists. Today’s Russia love from the right would be about as strange to me as “crying nazi” saying he really likes bin Laden.

The best part of this is that he will absolutely perjure himself. He will have no choice but to do so.

I hope this doesn’t mean they’re not going to put him under oath. I want him and all the rest of them to testify under threat of perjury at the very least.

    • thatotherjean

According to Rachel, he won’t be under oath—but there are penalties for lying to Congress, whether or not he is. Of course, Congress has to decide to impose them. . .

  • NMNative

I hope he continues to lie through his teeth and that they can prove he’s lying. Maybe then he can share a cell with sheriff Joe and his daddy.
