James Clapper: I Question Trump’s Mental Fitness

The Hill reports:

The former Director of National Intelligence blasted President Trump’s speech during an Arizona rally late Tuesday and raised questions about Trump’s fitness for office. “I don’t know when I’ve listened and watched something like this from a president that I found more disturbing,” James Clapper said during a interview on CNN.

“Having some understanding of the levers of power that are available to a president if he chooses to exercise them, I found this downright scary and disturbing.” Clapper was pressed on whether he questions Trump’s fitness for office. “I really question … his fitness to be in this office,” Clapper said.

  • shellback

Many of us questioned his fitness before the election, but here we are.

    • Blackfork

Yes, anyone with an ounce of rationality, a sense of reason and clarity saw this man for what he was and what he TOLD us he was. He was, is and will always be, a disaster. He has to be removed from that office.

      • Kassia

Just when you think Trump can’t get any further off course, he comes back, and does it again…. We have a spray-tanned orange fool for a President, and we owe the World a HUGE apology…..

Here is what the ignorant believe Trump is going to do.:

        1. Destroy the federal government as we know it.
        2. Kick butt
        3. Fire a bunch of minorities
        4. Get rid of Obamacare and watch the poor die. My previously unaffordable insurance is down to $85/month. My car insurance, from Insurance Panda, is now just $25/month. Under Trump, healthcare will be $500/month or more.
        5. Make the lives of poor kids, the sick, and the elderly worse than they already are.
        6. Drop a bunch of bombs on some colored people in some country somewhere.
        7. Build a wall.
        8. Cut taxes on the rich.

This is not only a defeat for American but for mankind en general. Values and morals achieved during the last decades are down the drain. Hating women it’s OK. sexual harassment it’s OK. Treacherous it OK. Bigotry it’s OK. Racism. It’s OK. Demagogue it’s OK, islamaphobia it’s OK.

Everyone on comments regularly on JMG knew he was Nucking Futs. We knew this would be the outcome.

    • VodkaAndPolitics

I think it was emphatically stated over and over and over again that he wasn’t fit for office…..

    • 2patricius2

      So true.

  • BOOM!

  • bambinoitaliano

No. He is in battle of power with Steve Bannon to secure the Nazi base.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Good thing the troops will come home to a country that’s full of love and not divided.

    • Vira

      And health care!

  • Tawreos

More and more people are starting to question his fitness for office, maybe there is some hope in the world after all

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Republicans in the house and congress never will.

      • BearEyes

it has to affect them personally first
        – like maybe looking like they may not be re-elected

      • When all the “rats have abandoned ship,” then the crew and passengers, there will be no Captain to go down with the ship. Trump will have been airlifted on his private helicopter to one of his island resort golf courses.

    • Cattleya1

Not among the rethugs. The people who would have to vote, in both houses of Congress, to remove him, have no plan to do so.

  • CanuckDon

The fire’s getting out of their control now. All of these government VIPs and high rankers have been fighting this thing for months while, at the same time, putting on their happy face masks…”nothing to see here”. Just how much stress and tension will it take before this ends?

  • netxtown

Well tell me, Mr. Clapper – how the hell did so many of us “stupid lay people” know he was a shit gibbon from the git-go, yet all you big powerful heads sat around with your thumbs up your collective asses while this shit gibbon trumped law and order, right and wrong, pissed off our allies, embarrassed us around the globe, and in general, wrecked our future quite handily?

    • Gerry Fisher

“We’ll be able to control him. We just need him to appoint the judges we name for him and to sign our legislation.” Yeah, how’s that working out for y’all?

  • Rebecca Gardner

Clapper’s tone was chilling. He seems to have resigned himself to the fact that the use of nuclear weapons is imminent.

    • joeyj1220

I’m just hoping those of us in Canada are far enough away from the blast radius… (I’m only partially joking)

      • GayOldLady

Any strike along the West Coast of the U.S. will not be good news for Canada. I personally hope to be in the 1st strike zone because once the 1st strike happens there will be many more to follow. If you survive a nuclear war I hope you’re young, vibrant, healthy and able to survive with little to nothing, because nothing is what you’ll have.

        • joeyj1220

Who’d have ever thought we’d actually be watching the movie Mad Max as a preparation manual documentary?

        • bzrd

people think there will be water and electricity to their house, food on the shelves at the nearest market, gas at the station but reality will be bleak!

          • The fires will take out gas stations and add to the blaze. We will be the walking dead. After a while, perhaps aliens will start life again and learn from us.

        • Bryan

The rest of the country should be concerned with the jet stream…

          • GayOldLady

Exactly. NK has bragged that it’s missile could hit the West Coast including AK. The entire North American Continent would become a wasteland even if they only hit along the West Coast. Most of it destroyed by fallout. If Trump ever hits the red button, it’s over for North America.

      • The Nuclear Winter will follow. As a Canadian, our kindness to immigrants and LBBTI persons will mean nothing. No one to record the fine history.

  • Nic Peterson

Just now with the question? It took until now?

    • They were blinded by the visions of all the people they hate being sent off to camps.

  • Rex

Trump showed over and over during the campaign he was unfit to be president.
it’s completely aggravating that some people just seem to be realizing this.

    • Ron Robertson

And even more aggravating that some never will. A good part of our problems today are due to the worthless media that celebrated idiots like trump instead of exposing them clearly and unambiguously. All of them profited from him because he was “sensational.” And we have the imbecile, Reagan, to thank for getting rid of the fairness doctrine, that at least forced some genuine opposing views in places where there are none, like Fox, and the rest of the right-wing media. Our own side has a lot to answer for as well. I could go on and on, like how our education system is a failure, too. Most never learn to think rationally, apparently… and on, and on.

      • Went on Bannon’s site. They had a piece on George Clooney give one million to Southern Poverty. The stupid comments were “He’s done nothing but help himself.”
I posted all his charities and was called “garbage writer.” I posted more of them. “I notice he does not support Vets.” The vast majority claim that they have no television – and you can bet – they don’t read newspapers.

  • John Ruff

Omg, we’ve known this for decades. Fuck, you CNN.

  • vorpal 😼

The comments posted on the rally live feed last night and on the CNN response today are slaughtering my faith in humanity. I cannot seriously believe how many people are still blindly supporting this colossal idiot and thinking that he somehow has a clue what he is doing. He changes members of his administration more often than he changes his underwear.

    • Rebecca Gardner

It’s what happens when people get all their news from Facebook.

    • bambinoitaliano

We are not dealing with one demented individual but also his base that is infested with the same disease.

      • vorpal 😼

Not convinced that they are zombies…
Mindless, yes, but unlike zombies, they have no interest in brains.

    • joeyj1220

I’ve honestly come to believe that many of those who post in online comments are “fake people”; professional online trolls who create numerous accounts for the sole purpose of going online and throwing discord into conversations. If you start searching those profiles, most of them are recently created and have very little ‘real history’

      • JCF

        Russian trolls—and bots.

    • Gerry Fisher

That’s what the bots were saying, eh?

    • Uncle Mark

Also keep in mind, who the main viewers were of this speech. Most of my friends and family at this point can’t stand the sight, let alone the sound of the lying, preening, strutting, nazi, man-baby…and his idiot fans. We didn’t watch. We knew much of it was going to be a replay of his greatest hits…coupled with huge chunks of revisionist history with heaping scoops of self-congratulations.

So many of us didn’t comment, because so many of us couldn’t bear to watch the shitshow. We know we’ll hear the deplorable highlights on the news later. Be assured, that most of us in the country share in your disgust.

    • They are sitting and waiting for all the factories, coal mines and jobs to come to their towns. They ignore that Trump and Ivanka are NOT bringing home their factories.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    Yeah, don’t we all.
But I am getting pretty sick of hearing about this ” unshakable base “.
They seem too incompetent to even vote.

    • Sadly that’s one of the few thing they can manage.

      • Uncle Mark

        …with Russian help

      • Chucktech

        That and AM radio.

what the hell??? I can’t keep up with Ladybelle Lindsey. One minute railing against Trump, the next sucking his dong

      • Todd20036

It’s why I take Lindsey’s critiques of Trump with a grain of salt.
He’s just a quisling. You cannot be gay and republican unless you are a quisling.
        And quislings are disposable.

      • CB

        It’s so butch, I could just… Well, I don’t know. I’m all a-twitter.

      • BobSF_94117

He only pretends to rail. The sucking is sincere.

    • Gerry Fisher

WHAT is the exit strategy for Afghanistan? This will drag us into a third decade there. Better be a good reason for a it and a high likelihood that Afghanis can run Afghanistan after that.

      • canoebum

The one good thing that has come from our presence, and the fighting we do against the Taliban, is that girls in Afghanistan can, in most cases, go to school. The opportunities for women have expanded a small amount, which is a big deal because under the Taliban, there were no opportunities.

    • JCF

Syria??? You mean the place where—to appease the Russians—Drumpf cut off funding to the moderate anti-Assad resistance, but pointlessly bombed (w/o damaging) an airfield?

      FUCK YOU, Lindsaybelle.

Yeah, I did too, before the f’ing election.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Keep hearing how ” The founders never envisioned a President this far out of his mind and that the System is not equipped to stop a maniacal man baby from using the nuclear codes ”

Maybe NOW would be a good time to do something about this ??

    • grada3784

We have our General Jack D. Ripper.

    • Chucktech

The founders envisioned an Electoral College doing it’s job. Republican traitors completely emasculated what was already an anachronism.

    • The_Wretched

25th was what they came up with….I don’t think it’s workable. The cabinet is filled with loons.

We all do. I’m sure Republicans have figured out what an enormous mistake they’ve made.

  • How many more Clappers will it take before America WAKES UP? We’ve all been shouting for more than a year that this idiot as a candidate and now in the White House is incompetent and dangerous.

  • -M-

There’s no question. Trump’s unfit emotionally, intellectually, and morally for any office of public trust.

  • The_Wretched

    Ok, good. AND?!!!

It’s heartening to see people of note willing to stand up but it’s not enough. There needs to be the ‘ask’ as well. Call for his removal. Call on the Republicans to get him gone. CNN needs to start asking every Republican who is on their air if they will vote to impeach and if not, why not.

  • JWC

Could it be that, Trump never wanted this job. To him it was a contest and he had to prove he could do it to who??? his kids Putin Obama. I don’t know. Maybe it was just to hear the words” President Trump”. His behavior, during the primaries, gave several opportunities to stop him but both the GOP and the Whore press let him pass. Now he is bored and like a petulant little child well past his nap time he wants out He lies, throws tantrums, blames everyone AMERICA, get rid of him .He is an embarrassment to you and we won’t even suggest what the world thinks of him This social experiment has failed miserably

  • andrew

Clapper’s comments on Trump and the nuclear codes should scare the shit out of the American political and military establishment and move them to a serious course of action to deal with the problem’

  • MassageBear

Anyone know how much the folks who sat behind Donny last night were paid?
