Former NC Gov. Pat McCrory Mocks LGBT Activists Over Compromise HB2 Repeal: They Lost The Battle

The Charlotte Observer reports:

Former Gov. Pat McCrory says North Carolina’s compromise over the controversial “bathroom law” House Bill 2 was not a full repeal, and he counts that as a loss for the left and gay rights advocates with the Human Rights Campaign. Those comments were made during one of two radio interviews McCrory has given since the state voted to repeal HB2, including an appearance on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show that airs on more than 240 stations across the country.

In that interview, McCrory is quoted as saying the compromise passed by the state’s General Assembly was a defeat for the Human Rights Campaign, which advocates for LGBTQ rights. “The good news is this: the HRC lost the battle,” McCrory is quoted as saying. “With their resources and power and money, and their trying to get some other corporations to help support them in the battle…(The) fact of the matter is, they did not get a full repeal of HB2.”

The only way the NCAA does not blink is if they have a lot of calls and emails. I emailed them Thursday. Did you?

If the hater Governor and the right and the ChriSTAIN groups are crowing then the current Governor hate light Cooper should know he was tricked or he was willing to toss us under the bus for the NCAA deadline for championships. He should be roasted over this. He is as Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s first chief of staff, who said where are the progressives going to go? Well Rahm, they stayed home in 2010.

We are far past the time the left needs to fear their base, as the right fears their base.

Cooper needs to be the target of a no donations pledge and we need to push out rich to stop donations. Just the threat in 2009, caused that white house event in April of that year.

Minimum, I want Cooper to admit he was dupped or he tried to appease all. We must make companies and organizations know they should not be tricked

Complaining on a blog can sooth the soul, but we need to email, write letters, post on Facebook for these companies and organizations, as well as call and call.

It does work. Remember Firefox and that ceo who made a prop 8 donation and his employees and us here pushed ha d and he was fired a week later.

If everyone did 10 calls, postings, emails, etc this next week, we would start a news storm. Tweet away.

NCAA said they will review this sham “repeal” before deciding how to proceed. Let’s hope that every sports organization, and artistic performers of every kind will continue to boycott North Carolina until the place is withered away to nothing. Maybe that will wipe the smiles off their smug, nasty faces.

    • M Jackson

Maybe the NCAA and others will consider the forum McCrory is using to vilify them and us — hate radio of Tony Perkins.

    • j.martindale

If they listen to this POS, the NCAA should realize there is no reason to stop the boycott.

  • another_steve

He’s right. It was not a full repeal of the hate.

The MSM are fucking up on their reporting of this. I saw a distressing interview on MSNBC this afternoon with none other than Clay Aiken — queer North Carolinian — during which he failed to adequately explain why this “compromise” is evil.

Shame on him and shame on MSNBC for not pursuing.

    • Ninja0980

Shame on Roy Cooper and Democrats most of all.

      • BobSF_94117

No, shame on the lying GOP most of all. Then shame on Cooper for caving.

Why you blame the Dems, almost all of whom voted against it, is puzzling.

    • Jimmy R

Was that before or after that idiot Chuck Todd chastised the LGBTQ community for not accepting compromise, warning us that if we don’t accept this compromise, we’ll end up with nothing….(which is precisely what this “compromise” amounts to).

He’s always been an asshole, though, so I guess the source must be taken into consideration.

    From Charlie Pierce of Esquire:

The hot news on our tour Thursday morning was that the governor and legislature of the newly insane state of North Carolina came to a “compromise” regarding that state’s ridiculous HB2, the so-called “bathroom bill,” that has cost the state billions in outside revenue simply by being as ridiculous as it is. Alas for all involved, this latest move is nothing if not further proof that political “compromise” often is more camouflage than anything else. From ThinkProgress:

Thursday’s “compromise” bill actually maintains many aspects of HB2. The law prohibited municipalities from establishing LGBT protections at the local level and mandated that in all public facilities, transgender people could only use facilities that match the sex on their birth certificate. The proposed “compromise” repeals HB2, but then immediately reinstates much of it: only the state legislature would be able to pass any legislation related to the use of multiple-occupancy bathrooms. Thus, no city or public school could assure trans people that they can use facilities that actually match their gender identity. Municipalities would still be banned from passing any LGBT nondiscrimination protections until December 1, 2020.

The current Democratic governor, Roy Cooper, eked out a win over Republican Pat McCrory almost solely on the basis of McCrory’s undying devotion to HB2. It’s beyond disappointing that he would sign off on this simply because he wants to curry favor with, among other groups, the NCAA.

The reason Republican lawmakers are rushing is that the NCAA reportedly set Thursday as a deadline for the state to repeal HB2 or risk losing the opportunity to host any championship games through 2022. This means that Thursday’s “compromise” effort is specifically geared toward making money off all those games, but if the NCAA’s concern was removing discrimination from the law, this effort doesn’t meet the standard.

Said it before, will say it again: If you find yourself on the wrong side of a moral issue from the NCAA, you need to run your soul through a car wash as quickly as possible.

    • grindstone

“Said it before, will say it again: If you find yourself on the wrong side of a moral issue from the NCAA, you need to run your soul through a car wash as quickly as possible.”

Indeed. When the NCAA holds moral ground higher than yours, you are on the wrong side.

The former bigoted governor of North Carolina lost his job over HB2 and as of a couple of weeks ago, the bigot was having trouble getting a job over being a famous bigot.
But, being a bigot, he is like a little fat pig in slop that the NC bigoted legislature did a faux repeal to make a faded attempt to get the boycotts dropped.
How is all that that working for you Mr. McBigot?

  • Ray Page

No, Pat, the losers are the thousands of people who lost jobs because of your states hatred.

The only reason I’m not being too harsh about this is cause the Christian Right still has too much control to do much better there, thanks to their election fraud and gerrymandering, but a ‘compromise’ this is not. It’s just formalizing the deadlock and still letting the Christians fuck up trans people’s lives, among anyone LGBT they feel like screwing over.

Me and several (9-15 depending on the year) used to stay a week at Topsail NC every year as a reunion type of deal. We cancelled the year this bill passed and have not gone back since, nor will we until it is completely repealed. We are now meeting in La Jolla CA.

  • Ben in Oakland

    Mcwhory, dear….

UMmmmm. YOU lost the battle. That’s why you’re not governor any more.

    We’re just gearin up.

  • Well, the NCAA demanded full repeal so let’s see if they accept this compromise to still allow government sanctioned discrimination against all of our community. The “Ts” (along with the LGBQs) still can be fired or denied a job, evicted or denied housing, refused a service or kicked out of a public establishment in the name of god and all that is holy. I hope the NCAA has integrity and refuses the compromise because there is no compromise when it comes to HUMAN rights!
