Bush Slams Rise Of Racism Under Trump [VIDEO]

People Magazine reports:

For eight years since leaving the White House, George W. Bush has refused to criticize publicly those who succeeded him, saying he didn’t want to make an already tough job any harder for President Obama and, now, President Trump.

But one rocky month into Trump’s tenure, it’s harder to keep quiet. “I don’t like the racism and I don’t like the name-calling and I don’t like the people feeling alienated,” Bush, 70, tells PEOPLE in an interview for the new issue of the magazine on newsstands Friday. “Nobody likes that.”

A spokesman for Bush previously told PEOPLE that neither he nor the former first lady voted for Trump – or for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton – in November. Both of the Bushes, who had campaigned for Bush’s younger brother Jeb in the 2016 Republican primaries, cast write-in votes on Election Day for a candidate they did not reveal.

  • Joe in PA

or for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton….

Then you are part of the problem.

    • Lakeview Bob

Yep, I never thought I would think of W as the voice of reason but this stupid comment once again showed how stupid he is.

    • Beagle

Maybe I’m too generous, but I tend to give partial credit to life-long R’s that voted third party. If they didn’t vote for Dump despite a long history that said they would, I’m not going to yell too loudly.

  • Sam_Handwich

yeah, Dubya. better to use teh gays to stir up hate and division

  • bkmn

If he wants to try to make up for his time in office he can do it by publicly calling Trump out every which way he can, as often as he can.

    • teeveedub

And that still won’t be enough. It’ll be a start, but it won’t be enough.

    • DonnaLee

I’ve been happy to make those comparisons. Bush was bad, but he wasn’t Nazi loving bad, that kind of thing.

  • Sam_Handwich

he’s been a regular blabber mouth lately. did someone steal his Hello Kitty paint set?

    • Joe in PA

Rumor has it that the mirror is gone in the bathroom as well.

    • Mark

his colors have all run dry – and the neighbors won’t let him mow their grass … something about a sub-compact John Deere and Mission Accomplished

    • Opinion Sousaphones

Well, as the very funny meme photo puts it, he is no longer the worst president in US history. He can be public now and not face as much vitriol (deserved) at the 45th is pretty much soaking it all up.

      • Reality.Bites

It just occurred to me that in a year, if Trump’s still around and we’re still around, Bush will actually be able to go on the public speaking tour outside the country. Both Clintons have spoken many times in Canada, the UK and other countries and the Obamas would be equally sought after, but not Bush. He could literally make millions on the anti-Trump speaking circuit.

Laura: Those weren’t “thinly veiled swipes”. Those were straight up punches.

      • The_Wretched

Yes Laura, Obama was good at the job. Donny the Unfit? Not so much.

      • Todd20036

Hey Laura, you know that Nazi salute you gave at the Hair Furor rally? Lets just say, liberals are a lot like Pepperidge Farms.

      • Bj Lincoln

Because he is a ignorant moron who has sold off parts of our government to the highest bidders. He is dividing our country into as many parts as he can and has open the door to the worst vermin in society.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

        So she’s admitting he’s a racist.

      • gaymex1

STFU Laura and cover your bounced check.

      • Stogiebear
      • bambinoitaliano

Before you talk about criticism, hey Laura. How is your $42K bounced check lawsuit from AP going?

  • GayOldLady

    OT…..But thought it worth sharing.

    Not on the table Kellyanne

    • Joe in PA

LOL, I sent that story to Joe. What a mess that woman is.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok
      • CJAS

While talking to his staffers, not guests.

      • KnownDonorDad

Apparently they’re still bringing this up in response to Conway.

        • -M-

Do I need my shocked face? No.

      • coram nobis

There was a difference. Kelly Anne was a staffer, a hanger-on, a flunky. Obama was the president. He’s entitled, she wasn’t.

      • TJR101

        I miss Obama so much.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I now wonder if she too eats well done steak with ketchup or maybe she just uses her tongue to eat instead of silverware.

    • Stogiebear

The Guy in Olive Green: “Sweet Jesus, you can see all the way to Gina!”

  • AtticusP

You know things are screwed up when George W. Bush sounds like a reasonable older statesman.

    • Lakeview Bob

      My thoughts exactly.

    • FAEN

However he doesn’t have much space to talk considering his administration used us like red meat to the right wing.

      • joeyj1220

yeah, I’m not willing to jump on the Bush love wagon yet

        • Me either, but I’m happy to promote clips like this. People who aren’t far right loons need to wake up.

        • Goggles

Nor should anyone. Up to 1 million dead in Iraq and that asshole was joking about not being able to find the WMDs under his desk. He should be in shackles addressing The Hague.

        • David Walker

I feel about him like I do for FLOTUS. Aside from the probable abuse she’s suffering, I couldn’t care less.

    • Jeffg166

If he’s lost Dubya he’s in trouble.

      • David Walker

Once upon a time, maybe, but he’s lagging behind the current GOTP that he’ll be easily dismissed.

      • Reality.Bites

He never had him or any of the major Bushes.

      • pch1013

No, he’s just a RINO cuckservative snowflake etc. etc. etc. to him and his drooling cultists.

  • Bj Lincoln

If anyone recognizes division and bigotry……
It’s nice he is saying something.
If they didn’t vote for Hillary then they are part of the problem.

  • kelven

It’s like the Lannisters complaining about the Boltons.

    • Todd20036

I have no idea what that means….

      • kelven

Game of Thrones reference. Who played Walder Frey better, Drumpf or Bannon?

        • That_Looks_Delicious

Thanks. I don’t watch Game of Thrones, so a lot of those go right over my head.

I actually did watch one episode, which accidentally just happened to be the Red Wedding show.

          • kelven

Yikes! Would not be the first episode I’d recommend.

          • Acronym Jim

The Purple Wedding was much more satisfying.

          • FAEN

      • -M-

The analogy is that, on ‘Game of Thrones’, the House of Lannister are vicious and power hungry, using money and political intrigue as their main weapons in their quest to rule the whole kingdom. The Bolton’s are a lesser house headed by psychopaths and relying on torture and terror to advance their even narrower interests.

        • kelven

          Couldn’t have said it better myself… 🙂

          • -M-

Aww, thanks. I’m about to start season six.

          • KnownDonorDad

You’re in for a wild ride!

    • Cousin Bleh

I guess that explains why Trump doesn’t have a dog.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

What could have been had Khaleesi won the EC…sigh.

  • Natty Enquirer

Polishing the apple of your reputation, W?

    • kareemachan

Yup, this is definitely the most effective time to do some whitewashing of history for him.

  • Skip Intro

    And now he’s a sage. I really can’t. Sorry.

    • Mark

I’d be ok with that as long as we can stick it in a bottle and toss it in a land fill.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

You helped build this along with Cheney. You really want to help? Bitch at the GOP to investigate and release Rump’s tax returns. Offer a damn reward.

  • GayOldLady
  • Dot Beech

It is a measure of how bad it has gotten if it is too much for Dubya.

Apparently, it is not yet too much for Cheney.

    • That_Looks_Delicious

More importantly, it’s apparently not too much for McConnell, Ryan, Cotton, Chaffetz, King, Cornyn, McCain, etc.

  • Mark

Is that his latest artistic rendering propped up there in the back? And here we thought it just awful that missy trumpette was hawking shoes….

  • Henry Auvil

“Nobody likes that.” Oh yeah? I guess you never attended a trump rally, Mr. Shrub.

    • kareemachan

Okay, let’s edit it: “Nobody with a heart and soul and conscience likes that.”

  • Jack

Looking forward to Trump’s response. “Failed has-been ex-pres, etc.”

    • Sashineb

      “Jeb’s brother is a mess.”

      • Bluto

        Jebra’s idiot brother. Sad.

  • Acronym Jim

You know things are bad when a former president of your own party breaks protocol to criticize you.

  • david fairfield

So….they DID vote for Trump. Two of the many selfish idiots who voted third party because Hillary. And we would have been so much worse if Hillary had won. Why, she would have taken her first month to dismantle the democracy and civil/human rights of every minority group. Oh wait…..

  • TexasBoy

Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine a US President that made W look like a decent human being in comparison.

  • edrex

aiiiieee!!! i’m starting to see W as a reasonable person…. why am i in the Upside Down? Do I need xmas lights to communicate with my loved ones?

  • It’s nice to see Laura’s frozen smile finally sagging with age. Maybe eventually it will droop into the normal range and not look quite so forced. Of course she’ll still be married to that stupid drunk.

  • Hunter M

    Buyers remorse.

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

His write-in vote was still a vote for trump….

  • kareemachan

Write-in votes, huh. That’s shrub’s level of stupid.

  • Ginger Snap

Someone is trying to make himself look like a better president than he was.

    • coram nobis

Someone has a lousier successor, and the only question now is by what multiple.

  • When W was president we noted that Reagan would have been to liberal for the 00s GOP. Now in 2017 W is too liberal for their party too. Anyone who thinks there are still moderate Republicans is not paying attention. No moderate would have voted for Jeff Sessions for AG. Betsy Devos would have not been confirmed if there had even been 3 moderates in the Republican Senate caucus.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

This is the first and only time that I’ve had any respect for Bush.

  • Derrick Johns

I really didn’t hate George W like I was supposed to. I hated his Darth Vader vice president. He allowed Cheyney to cause the deaths of thousands of Americans and almost a million Iraqis. But I don’t hate George W as I should. I always liked Miss Laura–even though she killed a man.

  • Tomcat

Trump makes Bush popularity rating skyrocket just by being himself.

  • Reality.Bites

You know, when the dust clears, at least the Bushes will have shown themselves to be on the right side of one of the defining issues of the century – the Trump coup and its aftermath.

  • greenmanTN

“I did everything in my power to encourage this sitchy-action, but I don’t want any responsibility for this sitchy-action once it done got here!”

  • DoctorDJ

It’s a terrible indictment of the GOP when George W. is the sane one.

  • Marti386

When did George W. Bush become the voice of reason?
