REPORT: Fast Food Zillionaire Andy Puzder To Withdraw As Labor Nominee Because He’s “Tired Of The Abuse”

CBS News reports:

Andrew Puzder, President Trump’s pick for labor secretary, is expected to withdraw his name from the nomination, a source close to the restaurant executive tells CBS News’ Major Garrett. The source says he does not believe Puzder will appear for his confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee.

Asked why, the source said, “I think he’s very tired of the abuse.” Another source working on Puzder’s confirmation preparation also told Garrett that the odds were about 80 percent odds that the CKE Restaurants executive would pull out of the nomination.

The news comes after days of intense scrutiny over Puzder’s fitness to lead the Labor Department and questionable support from Republican senators. Puzder, who previously lead the company that owns fast food chains Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, came under fire earlier this month after reports that he and his wife had employed an undocumented immigrant for housework.

Earlier this week Politico published excerpts from a 1990 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in which Puzder’s ex-wife accused him of domestic abuse.

UPDATE: And he’s out.

  • itsjoe618

Looks like the poor snowflake couldn’t handle the pressure. Trump will just replace him with someone equally as monstrous, unfortunately.

  • Cousin Bleh

“Tired of the abuse.” That’s what his wife said.

    • DaddyRay

  • boobert

And I wanted him to supply the official food to the white house with all that extra heart blocking fat, salt and calories. lol

  • Paul David

I love how deserved scrutiny is now “abuse” to these authoritarian motherfuckers.

I’m sure Puzder is muttering about “going Galt” all they way back to his tacky mansion. Where he will no doubt spend several months sulking.

    • T-Batwoman

Rand and her worshippers are such a bunch of self absorbed fuckstains.

Everyone needs to read Atlas Shrugged and Les Miserables, whichever book you prefer tells everyone everything they need to know about you.

    • popebuck1

Having his actions questioned by the peasants? It doesn’t get more abusive than that!

      • Paul David

True, the peasants should never question their betters. It’s so…un-American.

How dare they! I am clutching my pearls just thinking about it! Someone, quick, bring me Peggy Noonan to soothe my conscience!

        • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

Don’t tell ’em, but we are THEIR betters. They just kinda forgot they work for us, and we’re not really hammering them over it.

    • MonochromeMouse

It’s like how journalists calling out lies is now “unfair coverage”

      • Paul David

Conservatives have purposely–and quite successfully–been skewing debate in their favor for the past 30-ish years.

And, to be fair, we liberals have largely let them set the terms of debate in their favor…our conservative movement may be one of the most fucked-up in our country’s history, but we on the left are complicit in that we have never sufficiently pushed back against their bullshittery.

        • MonochromeMouse

Yeah, the democrats with the power to actually make changes happen are too scared about their future reputation to do anything, they don’t want to be remembered historically for making waves in case the movement fails. Obama had the power to stop trump, but didn’t want to be remembered for being the first president ever to not allow his replacement to peaceably take power, but now he’ll be remembered for being complicit in allowing fascists to take over the country.

          • Paul David

I’d say that the reality is too many Democrats are like Chuck Schumer: they’re pieces-of-shit who are hopelessly compromised by the fact that they sold their souls to Wall Street and other corporate interests.

In fact, the difference between the parties, until recently at least, has largely been that Democrats more politely fucked over the middle and lower classes….

          • Richard, another Canuck

Paul David, you need to step up to the plate and run for office…There are so many smart folks on this site, but most are too old. You are young, eloquent, and likely have more energy to get the job done, or at least start the revolution. I do hope that the Bernie energy does not dissipate.

          • Paul David

            Too. Much. Baggage.

Plus I live in Seattle, we are deepest blue.

        • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

Because we were waiting for the DNC to, like, DO something! Instead, all we got were displays of noodle spine and vague wampiness.

          • Paul David

            Yeah, well…

What can you do? We’re a “center right” country! All the opinion research shows that! Except, of course, that all the opinion research doesn’t show that at all! But let’s not talk about that…we have job-killing trade deals to pursue and our neverending fetishization of “bipartisanship,” whatever the fuck that is!

Oh, and don’t forget what we, Democratic politicians, need to do AFTER we are out of office. I mean, how are we going to land those sweet 2-hour-long speeches at Goldman that pay a cool quarter of a million dollars if we’re not slavishly serving their interests!

Plus, on top of that, we’re the Party of Superficial Social Progress™!

Serving the needs of labor and the middle and lower classes is so 20th century!

Why do that when we can elect a Black president who is also a Goldman-serving neoliberal! But he’s Black! Or put up a female nominee who’s been fellating Wall Street her entire career and will not serve average Americans’ interests! But she’s a woman!

It’s so much easier being the Party of Superficial Social Progress™!

  • Tomcat

Back to your minimum wage earners fool.

  • liondon#iamnotatraitor

I’ve got overtime not to pay.. too busy for this shit.

  • Gustav2

The snowflake should live on the wages he pays for one month or two and then we will discuss “abuse.”

    • boatboy_srq

Meh. He should try being Blah or Brown for a month or two, especially at his current salary. He’ll get much more abuse, and get it from people he respects and who would have respected him before then, as much for not being worth the money as for anything else.

  • Boreal
    • Tomcat

Nice shooting, I see you spend a lot of time at the practice range.

        No, none at all.

  • Mike C

    K BYE.

  • Rex

    Snowflake couldn’t take the heat.

  • pipslvr

Omg. A Trump nominee that doesn’t pass even the muster of a Republican controlled Senate. Imagine that.

    • Tomcat

I guess his yacht was not big enough.

      • TampaDink

And he uses too much teeth.

      • popebuck1

“Not our class, darling.” (Though until recently, neither was that orange guy.)

  • labdad95

    Bless his wittle black heart.

  • Rex

Cue up the Bye, Felicia, memes.

  • JWC

poor baby can’t stand the abuse maybe he now knows what his wife (ex?) and employees feel like

  • AtticusP

Go choke on one of your shitty burgers, asshole.

Trump’s swamp a.k.a. cabinet already has enough loathsome creatures in it, thank you very much.

    • another_steve

Essentially his appointees are charged with dismantling the departments they’re appointed to. EPA. Education. The list goes on and on. Government is the enemy, to the goons in the White House.

This fucker is very anti-labor and anti-union and would (from Trump’s perspective) have been perfect for the Department of Labor.

He must have some major major skeletons in his closet, to have backed out of it.

    • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

But, but, who’ll bring the refreshments for the cabinet meetings now? Oh wait, they won’t eat their own crap.

  • My read is about half of the GOP Senators who turned against him did so because he’s an unqualified wife-beater, and the other half only because he hired undocumented immigrants and isn’t rich enough for that to be overlooked.

  • Treant

My heart just bleeds. I’ve been calling him “Putzler,” so…

  • Rick

    Ick, ick, ick.

    • PickyPecker

Yeah, we have a Hardee’s in town. Never been there, but lost all interest years back when the ceiling in the ‘dining area’ fell in while patrons were present. Classy.

      • Earl

Was there at least a snowfall? Or did the sucker just give way under the load of grease on the ceiling?

        • PickyPecker

No snow event. Just rotted out, from what I understand.

          • Earl

Good thing there weren’t any regulations that dealt with that.

          • That_Looks_Delicious

My boss once had to investigate a restaurant where the ceiling in the dining area had collapsed on some customers. He was hired by the contractor’s lawyers. The investigation revealed that the ceiling was installed with screws that were much too short and the contractor had violated the building code. They just said thank you and never used the report. It turned out that the lawyers were really just trying to figure out whether to fight the lawsuit or settle out of court.

      • mpatreyu

        I believe that’s called entertainment.

Tired of the abuse, plus he hates workers.

  • Ian

    Wah wah. GTFO!

  • PeteLI

If he’s “tired of the abuse,” I’m sure he has a ton of respect and admiration for Barack Obama, who took unwarranted abuse for eight full years.

    • popebuck1

Mr. Obama, I hope you’re enjoying the HELL out of your tropical vacation! You’ve earned it a thousand times over!

    • The_Wretched

And rarely said the least thing about it.

  • Tomcat

He is going back to where he is allowed (because of his wealth) to grab workers pussies. Those fast food workers will let him do anything he wants.

  • Dagoril

Will the suffering of racist, anti-gay billionaires never stop? I hope you people are happy with yourselves! 😉

    • Tomcat

Not yet, one more big one to go.

      • Earl

Only one? Hey, while we’ve got them there… 🙂

  • Raising_Rlyeh

    Kind of breaking:

DINO Dennis Kucinich thinks that colluding with a foreign government against our democracy is a-o-k.

    • Lazycrockett

I expect a helluva lot more from Dennis.

      • Dreaming Vertebrate

I’m putting him in the Official Idiot category after this.

        • Gustav2

He has been nominated in the category many times and this is not his first win.

    • Todd20036

He’s still bitter his gorgeous wife left him after it became apparent she wasn’t going to be FLOTUS

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Kucinich was always a weird fit for the Democratic party. He reminds me of Jill Stein and Ralph Nader in a lot of ways. And sometimes a little bit like Bernie, too.

  • dcurlee

Can’t stand the abuse. Fucking snowflakes. They beat the democrats down for eight years. Guess if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

The prospective Secretary of Labor employed an undocumented worker, and ONLY FOUR Republican senators opposed him!! They’re just a gushing cataract of hypocrisy.

  • boobert

So that’s army and labor sec that didn’t think the jobs were worth the bother.

    • Joe in PA

Thanks, I was just looking for that.

  • Lazycrockett
  • Blake Mason

Leave the part out about the white woman… but this will be me when the finally impeach and throw 45 out of the white house…

  • vernacular100

    Abuse?…bad case of heartburn!

  • Chris H.

Tired of abuse??? I’m sure thats what his employees say who are making minimum wage and working three jobs! Poor delicate snowflake as he sulks back to his mansion of illegal workers.

  • Tomcat

Wanted Labor Secretary,, qualifications are be rich, be racist, be bigoted oh-yeah and be a WHITEMAN.

  • Uncle Mark

I guess for all he paid to get the job, he decided it wasn’t going to be as much pain-free fun as he thought. Congress was expected to give him a pass, but the media clearly didn’t. Does he get a refund? Mwhaaa haaa haaaa

  • David L. Caster

Didn’t want to divest his holdings would be my guess. And he probably deserves all the abuse criticism he’s been getting.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

Hmm, … the Putz is crying sour grapes, now that it has been revealed republicans do NOT have the votes to confirm him.
Putzer: I didn’t want this stinking job in the first place!

What? Didn’t anyone tell you that politics is a blood sport? Trump’s a chump and Barack was a Champ. You get into the public ring, expect to be punched, hard. Politics is not for the weak of mind or ego….hence the Trump meltdown now in progress.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

We’ll see you in the gutter, Andy. LOL.

    • GayOldLady

As we step over him on our way into any place but Hardee’s or Carl Jr’s.

  • GayOldLady

The wife beating, employee mistreating, anti-labor crook and liar says what?

    • Lazycrockett

with a resume like that youd think he would have been a shoe in.

    • The_Wretched

Also hired undocumented workers and then didn’t pay taxes on them.

  • Ninja0980

They can dish it out but they can’t take it.

  • fuzzybits

He was upset he couldn’t get Melonia to appear in a bikini for the new ads.

  • Friday

This moment in ‘Haha, how does it feel’ brought to you by the guy who ‘took a lot of abuse’ and is without the job before even making full-time hours. I hope he loses his health care. 🙂

  • Uncle Mark

Does Hardees have a new kind of chicken sandwich on the menu…or is it just crow?

  • Stubenville

And by “abuse” you mean standing up and defending your actions which you didn’t think would ever see the light of day? Like employing illegal domestic help?

  • Rebecca Gardner

Fuck him! How about the insane abuse he inflicts on his employees. About time this asshole felt a little pain.

    • Lazycrockett

They have to pay 10 cents an hour to wear their uniform!!!!!

      • Rebecca Gardner

They are also required to clock out during slow times and wait until business picks up and then clock back in.

        • Acronym Jim

Wow. I worked at a local fast food franchise in Portland, Oregon for five years in the mid-to-late 80s. We were required to purchase our own shoes and slacks (easy enough to find at any thrift store), but management purchased the shirts, caps, and name tags.

When we encountered slow times, we used that time to deep-clean the store, prep for the next shift, and in rare cases, polled shift employees on whether they wanted to take off early. There were always some who didn’t mind occasionally sacrificing a little pay for extra time off.

This asshole’s practices are just vile. How is that legal?

    • Yeah, I bet they’re “tired of the abuse” too.

    • TuuxKabin

I doubt he’s feeling any pain. More relief than not, most like it. Maybe Mother Karma will see about the pain down the line.

  • MBear

business people don’t have what it takes to be in politics

  • fuzzybits

The least surprising thing is he hired an undocumented worker for household help.

  • HZ81

Tired of the abuse? But enough about what your ex-wife says, Andy!

    I’m here all week.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Is it bad I laughed at that??

      • HZ81

        Yes, you’re a monster! 🙂

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

          I kinda suspected that.
The massive maw filled with meter-long teeth is pretty much a give-away.

      • WretchedMouse

-snort- it’s okay I said ha really loud at work just now. 🙂

  • Yeah, but does he beat his wife or the illegal maid?

    • HZ81

      Inquiring minds want to know.

    • popebuck1

Maybe he pays the maid to beat his wife. So much more efficient.

      • Good thinking! Plus the maid has all those cleaning implements to wield.

    • PeterC

It was his first wife that said he beat her.

      • Why would he beat his first wife when he’s got his second wife right there?

        • WretchedMouse

He feels more comfortable with the first? 0-o

  • hdtex

Of course the fact that there were 3 to 12 GOP Senators rumored to be voting against him had nothing to do with it. What a POS.

    • andrew

I guess we should be happy that there were actually a number of Republican Senators who care about working class Americans. Mostly they just pay lip service to workers and vote for the things that only benefit employers.

  • Gene Perry
  • Andymac3

Tired of abuse? abusing the employment laws, abusing his underpaid staff, abusing his ex wife, abusing anyone he meets because he’s simply vile. Hardys & Carls jr gives their underpaid staff uniforms then charges them by the hour to wear them. What sort of abuse is that. They have to breath in vegetable fat all day, they should be getting free breathing masks and Clearasil.

  • Tread

Someone call the waaaahmbulance. And then ask all the employees whose backs he’s stood on to make millions from while paying them a pittance.

Fuck him right in his ear.

    • Blake Mason

Unless he likes that … then fuck him in the eye socket.

  • andrew

Now Puzder can go back to giving his full attention to paying his employees slave labor wages.

Welcome to the world of politics, Snowflake! Imagine enduring the abuse that Hillary Clinton has had to put up with throughout her political career.

O/T: But speaking of appointees….I saw something last night during T.R.M.S. on MSNBC that I’ve never seen before….an ad for a SCOTUS nominee. Is this a thing now?

    • Chris H.

I’ve been seeing that ad for a few days now with the former clerk of Gorsuch, it seems on MSNBC. I didn’t catch who was paying for it, but I’m sure the Koch’s or some right wing front group.

      • TampaDink

I also didn’t see who paid for the ad, it strikes me as beyond weird that a supreme court nominee needs to have a p.r. campaign.

  • Tempus Fuggit

Right, right, he’s tired of the abuse. And he wants to spend more time with his family.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

I really think that he was seeing the cracks in the facade of the current administration and realized the the whole mess is gonna come crashing down pretty soon as soon as Trump & his whole crapbag of ‘advisors’ are shown to be in bed with those Pinko Putin bastards in Russia. I just know that what the Russians have on Trumpinski is beyond perverted, disgusting and so imoral and degrading that when it is revealed all the world will do is (in unison) go “EEEWWWWWWWWW” and barf.

    • Outlaw Woman

Agreed … the Women’s March and the entire “Resistance” movement is having an effect.
Everyone in Trump’s administration (or potentially in his administration) now knows its going to be a rough road.

      • popebuck1

Amen! Now if the Republicans in Congress can just be made to realize it. Once they get it through their skulls how toxic 45 is becoming, maybe we’ll get somewhere.

Too bad Betsy didn’t drop out.

No doubt she translated the scrutiny – sorry, the “abuse” – as Glorious Martyrdom for Jeeziz.

If the Treason Bomb had dropped before her vote, she’d probably have backed off.

Putzy was opposed by several Republican Senators, but you can bet that they only voiced their opposition after the past few days of SS Trump catching fire and sinking rapidly. They want to voice opposition to Donnie in some form before he’s impeached.

  • Cherry

Knowing he heads up Hardee’s, I won’t feel so bad driving past the local Hardee’s restaurant and seeing their parking lot always empty.

  • Rick Zajac

Oh well, boo hoo. Go fuck the fuck off.

  • No More GOP.

The poor dear. Also, he knows a sinking ship when he sees one. Rats are generally pretty good at that.

  • LesbianTippingHabits

In addition to treating fast food workers / managers poorly, Andrew Puzder is also well known as a parsimonious (cheap) tipper. This is particularly ironic with this nomination given that the best and most effective way to immediately help to address economic inequality is to tip generously for good service.

Remember, tips are good karma. And karma never lies.

And only the wait staff knows for sure. Thank you.

  • “Because he’s tired of the abuse” is a bullshit pretext to save face. GOP leaders in the Senate told Trump that there are four hard GOP votes against Puzder and possibly as many as 12. If his nomination is withdrawn, it’s because they know the votes aren’t there and they don’t want an embarrassing defeat.

  • justmeeeee

    “Andrew Puzder . . . restaurant executive. . . .”
That’s using a very, very, v-e-r-y loose definition of “restaurant.”

    • Bj Lincoln

Fast food people refer to their places as restaurants. I agree with you. I worked in the restaurant business for 20 years and a fast food joint is NOT a restaurant.

      • TuuxKabin

        How ’bout a DIVE?

        • MaryJOGrady

I think many dives have character, of one kind or another. Fast food specializes in corporate standardization and homogenization of public culture. Fast food would have to improve to achieve dive-hood.
          (How are y’all doing?
I am just moving into my own place, for the first time in 21 years. There is room for my books and pictures. It’s bliss.)

Give me/us a dive any time. The closer to “A Bucket of Blood” the better. A slight edge in the atmosphere is preferable to the pseudo media created atmosphere in the other places. Fortunately our neighborhood still has a slight edge, even new establishments are going with the predominant vibe up here of not being cookie cutter, corporate venues. We don’t call it the Upper Left Side for nuttin’ honay.

Follow that bliss! YAY for a space of your own! Are you planning to burn / have a smudge going? I love the SW herbs and woods for that.

We’re well, thanks. I’ll send today’s A Day Without Immigrants note to you. Just going thru the alphabet in my email for addresses. In the K’s right now. You fall under M & O.

You’re staying in New Mexico? The Orlando flag thread made me think of the flags of New Mexico and Arizona, two of my favorites.

          • MaryJOGrady

I signed a one-year lease on the new place. I have come to love New Mexico; I moved here with the ex- from Austin almost three years ago. I have come to love this neighborhood, too. Thankfully, the new apartment is not far.
            Big hugs to y’all!

There’s a lot to appreciate in NM. My mom and grandmother are from Alamogordo. Was fun visiting, flying into El Paso – great gift shops with a lot of local artisans’ products – driving north, White Sands, Cloudcroft. Truth of Consequences, and the spas around there. The FOOD! I finally duplicated her chili Colorado recipe. And it was so simple. I just remember the exquisite flavor and thought, no, that can only come from mom’s kitchen. A while back we accomplished grandma’s tamales. A bit more of a labor of love, but worth it.

            Hugs back at ya’.

But, but, we haven’t even started to abuse you yet.

  • Clearly Oprah is the only one with the power to take down anyone associated with Trump.

    • MaryJOGrady

No disrespect to Oprah intended (although she has no grasp of science-based medicine), but to me this proves we are living in the remake of “Idiocracy.”

      • It’s like a sick joke, isn’t it? Yes, it is terrible that he beat his wife, but his frequent disregard for labor laws in his own businesses ought to have been enough to disqualify him for consideration as Secretary of Labor without a decades old tape from an ex-wife.

    The rats are jumping ship!

    Andy Puzder ‏@AndyPuzder 34m

I am withdrawing my nomination for Secretary of Labor. I’m honored to have been considered and am grateful to all who have supported me.

Breaking: @realDonaldTrump has found a replacement for Puzder as Labor Secretary

  • Lars Littlefield

  • DanimalChgo

Rich asshole spends years saying “I could run the country better.” Gets chance to run the country, finds out it’s actually hard, says “fuck this shit I’m out.”

  • Bj Lincoln

I would starve before I eat fast food in general. The wife could live on the shit but I can’t bring myself to eat it.

  • Gianni

Perhaps he realized that being part of the Trump administration is not a feather in one’s hat. It has a major downside and the negatives are growing daily.

  • greenmanTN

Well, being Labor Secretary and reaping souls for Satan would stretch anyone’s capacity. When would he ever get some “me” time?

  • KnownDonorDad

For once we actually inch away from Idiocracy. Not bad.

  • Acronym Jim

I’m sure the four Republicans who intimated that they would not confirm him had nothing to do with it.

  • TuuxKabin

The putz can dish it out but can’t take it, eh? Snowflake in hell.

  • 2patricius2

Yeah, and I bet his workers have been tired of the abuse from him for a long, long time.

  • Bert_Bauer

Like the Chief Diaper Fire in the WH, Andy is a CEO that is used to everyone snapping to attention for his orders and being sucked up to. No wonder he’s whining like his woulda-been boss. Hope he felt humiliated but he won’t learn a thing from the experience. More evidence that conservative stooges who say government should be run like a business have no fucking clue.

  • Jim Gallagher-Barker

He’s tired of the abuse? How about his fucking employees? Think they’re tired of the abuse?

  • Achilles Tsakiridis

Cmon guys hes just like us ….

  • Bert_Bauer

I also forgot to mention below I worked for a fast food chain in high school that was acquired by Hardee’s. I know technology and food science have improved a lot since the early 80’s but fast food work is hard, messy and dangerous (think hot French fry grease).
Puzder and his ilk get rich off people working for squat and don’t care at all. I can only imagine the horrors American workers would be subjected to if he was confirmed (not that it won’t happen with his replacement).

  • EqualityForAll

Vetting is now being defined as “abuse.” This is Trump’s America.

  • The_Wretched

Who’s the snowflake? You are! Grats Puzder.

  • Mike

Poor li’l cupcake scumbag couldn’t take the heat. Let him go hug it out i a safe room somewhere.

  • Henry Auvil

I wonder how many times a Carl’s Jr. or Hardee’s employee has walked out of the job because they were tired of the abuse.

  • WretchedMouse

Awe poor rich man can’t take people criticizing him and saying no.

  • StudioTodd

  • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

I wonder if the possibility of Carls Jr. losing all its customers through protest and boycott was part of his decision to withdraw.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

It’s not that he had hired an undocumented alien as a housekeeper, it’s that he fired her summarily when found out.

  • The wife-beater claims he’s being abused. These motherfuckers are too much.

  • DonnaLee

BOOM! I said some of the cabinet people wouldn’t make it till Trump’s impeachment, and this one didn’t even make it past today! I mean I just commented on an earlier post today….holy shit.

  • SDG

Poor boo boo. Not nearly the abuse your employees face, on a daily basis.

  • karmanot

    Da Putz goes down!
