Julian Assange: Don’t Blame Me For Trump

The Hill reports:

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he deserves no blame for Hillary Clinton’s election loss. In an interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Assange denied that he was seeking to damage Clinton’s campaign by publishing hacked emails that reflected poorly on her.

The documents were what Clinton’s inner circle was “saying about their own campaign, which the American people read and were very interested to read, and assessed the elements and characters, and then they made a decision,” Assange said in the interview, which The Guardian first reported.

The U.S. intelligence community has publicly said Russia was behind the hacks, and a CIA assessment reportedly concluded the Kremlin was specifically trying to help Trump win. Assange has denied the documents came from Russia.

In the interview, he said he had “mixed” feelings about the presidential election, but said a Clinton win would have been a “consolidation of power in the existing ruling class of the United States.”

  • JPH

So thirsty. Can he please die?

  • Ernest Endevor

It’s not my fault, you guys!

Besides, “… a Clinton win would have been a “consolidation of power in the existing ruling class of the United States.”n Instead we got billionaires, zealots, K Streeters, and ignoramuses. Someone needs to stop talking.

  • Ross
    • justmeeeee

Good for you, Ross, because all Hill-bots know that she was such a special and flawless candidate that it could only be everyone else’s fault that she lost. Absolutely NO blame falls to the Queen herself.

      • Dramphooey

Does this mean you actually believe this reactionary propagandist? Assange got you something from George Orwell’s 1984 for Christmas: a boot stomping on a human face forever.

        • Bill_Perdue

Reactiionay propagandists are those who support the union busting mentality, wars and racism of the Clintons, the Bushes, Obama and Trump.

          • FAEN

            You voted for whom?

          • Bill_Perdue

Why do you vote for wars of aggression, racist cops, low wages and against the scum who imprisoned and tortured Chelsea Manning.

          • FAEN

            Still won’t answer the question.

            JUST. LIKE. TRUMP.

          • Bill_Perdue

Answer the question or admit that you’re part of the Trump family.

          • cleos_mom

Probably himself, since no one else on the planet is worthy.

      • joe ho

lol. It took knee-capping by Russia and a rogue FBI plus massive voter suppression to take her down. Bernie couldn’t even win California.

        • Todd20036

And Clinton still won by 3 million votes.

        • justmeeeee

bitter isn’t pretty joe ya ho

          • joe ho

            delusional isn’t pretty justmeeee.

left-wing loons like you too righteous to vote for hillary to stop trump are despicable.

as far-left icon chomsky says, you made a very, very big mistake in not voting for her.

            http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/307570-chomsky-liberals-who-didnt-vote-for-clinton-made-a-bad-mistake

          • Todd20036

There’s a reason I blocked him. Not worth the effort.

          • Bill_Perdue

Wrong, the reason you block people is becasue you know they’d expose you if you argued with them.

          • FAEN

And who did you vote for?

          • Bill_Perdue

            Answered.

          • Carl

Please find an outlet for your hostilities that won’t get us all killed next time.

dont you have a 100% green tiny house, a macintosh product and a soy latte to buy??
better get them while you can and stop gloating here

          • JT

Keep it up, like a true Trumpanzee.

        • Kate

The media absolutely dogpiled on Trump, and Hillary had foreign and Wall Street money.

She lost 1.2 billion dollars, and couldn’t manage to stop Donald Trump.

          • FAEN

[email protected] dog piled on Trump. Yeah right.

          • joe ho

            lol. How deluded you are.

The media gave Trump a billion dollars in free advertising covering his rallies in toto without critical commentary from the beginning. The media dogpiled on Hillary’s non-issue emails trying to make them a false equivalence with Trump’s non-stop outrages. The media failed to pursue the Russian interference story. The media failed to pursue Trump’s conflicts of interest and corruption. The media became a willing conduit for Russian and Wikileak anti-Clinton propaganda. As CBS CEO stated, “Trump may not be good for the country, but he’s good for our ratings.”

          • Kate

Nate silver was saying she was going to win the entire election, up to the day of the polls.

He was wrong about Trump winning the nomination, badly, and Hillary had nothing to do with that.

Trump is good at showmanship. That’s why he won, despite the leaked Bush video of the “grab her by the pussy”. There are plenty of incidents where Hillary has said things that would have hurt her campaign (just look at the Wall Street speeches), but for the most part people haven’t recorded her.

          • joe ho

            lol.

You really are confused, aren’t you?

Nate said she had about a 75% chance of winning–that doesn’t mean she was going to win.

Even left-wing icon Chomsky says progressives who failed to support Clinton made a very, very bad mistake.

I’m assuming you’re one of those left-wing loons trying to rationalize away what a complete shitstain you are.

          • Kate

I’m neither left-wing, nor right-wing. I support unions and self-defence, am pro-weed, and in favor of strong borders.

          • joe ho

            And you opposed Clinton.

So enjoy Trump rolling back civil rights protections for minorities for the next 30 years.

            You own it.

And we won’t let you forget foolish shitstains like you own it.

          • Kate

I did oppose Clinton. That’s why I voted Trump.

            “Rolling back civil rights protections”

I support equality under the law. I oppose anything which compels businesses to do business with anyone. It should be entirely legal to refuse to serve Christians, just as it should be legal to refuse to serve gays.

I don’t believe in the “right” to force people to associate with you, or to do business, so in that sense there are no “rights” I expect to be rolled back. Marriage equality is here to stay.

          • joe ho

            lol.

So you approve of Jim Crow, segregated housing, firing someone just because they’re gay, etc.?

            You are a self-loathing shitstain.

          • Kate

No, I don’t approve of Jim Crow. The government should be required to serve all citizens equally. We the people institute governments to serve us, and the government has no business refusing service to anyone for any reason, nor mandating that private businesses do so.

It’s just as wrong for the government to encourage discrimination as to perform it. I would even go so far as to say that the government should be free to refuse to serve (with fire, roads, police, etc.) businesses that choose to discriminate.

Where I draw the line, however, is the government forcing anyone to do business with anyone. It’s a form of slavery.

          • joe ho

            lol.

so you approve of doctors being able to turn away patients they don’t like and of people who want to keep their communities segregated by refusing to sell property to colored folks? you think gay people should be refused service at grocery stores and restaurants if the owners are anti-gay? you like the idea of the green book that blacks had to carry when traveling–it listed which businesses would serve them and which wouldn’t?

your position is incoherent. if you want the government to punish businesses that choose to discriminate by cutting off their water supply, denying access to roads etc. then you are de facto forcing them not to discriminate–reducing their freedom to choose.

          • Kate

“Doctors turning away patients they don’t like”

Yep. I’ve been on the receiving side of that for my “sinful lifestyle”.

It’s their right, and I have no desire to do business with bigots.

“People who wanted to keep their communities segregated.”

Yep, even if that means they want to keep me out. It’s your land, you should be free to sell to whom you want for whatever reasons you want.

For one thing, it’s a lot more honest – there are a lot of places that won’t rent to gay couples, but they make up excuses so they don’t get in trouble. I’d rather they were honest, so people can boycott them.

“You think gay people should be refused service at grocery stores and restaurants”

No, I don’t. I don’t think you should burn your house down, either, but if you own it, it should be legal. There are a lot of bad things that should be legal.

“You like the idea of the green book that blacks had to carry while traveling”

Not particularly. I would boycott restaraunts that didn’t serve black people. It’s immoral, but it’s more immoral to compel people to do business with each other under force of law.

“If you want the government to punish businesses that choose to discriminate … you are de facto forcing them not to discriminate”

Not at all. I’m not suggesting that the government should put up barricades, rather, I’m suggesting that the government simply cease to provide services specifically for them. In other words, don’t run roads to them if there is nobody else on that road, don’t run or provide utility service, etc. If they call the cops, don’t answer.

They are free to do as they wish, and so is the government. I don’t believe in freedom from consequences, and it’s just as immoral to use black tax dollars to fund people discriminating against blacks, as it is to hold a gun to someone (in the form of police) and tell them that they have to do business with someone, or they will be arrested. If they resist, they will be killed.

          • cleos_mom

Yeah, I figured when reading your earlier posts you were a Trump supporter with a nicey-nice MO.

What you claim to “support” means bupkes, cupcake.

          • cleos_mom

But the facade of sweet reasonableness was kept up for an impressive length of time.

          • johnny

I am not a Clinton fan but still voted for her. This is spot on though about the media! What a shit show.

      • Michael R
      • Tom G

She was more qualified and more stable the the fucktard he help get elected.

        • FAEN

THE most qualified person ever to run for POTUS.

I mourn for what could have been. I was really looking forward to a Hillary presidency. Now we have this Cheeto Shitgibbon.

          • Zoey

One candidate who’s life was devoted to helping others and the other to himself where everything always been given to him and still manages to fuck it up.

          • FAEN

Yep! It’s such a reflection of how dumbed down we’ve become as a country that with such an obvious choice it was even close. We’re it not for the EC we’d have another POTUS we could be proud of. Cheeto Dumpster-not at all. Ever.

          • FAEN

            Autocorrect.

          • Kate

She screwed over black people (super predators), and supported Bill in DADT and DOMA. Her foundation is shady, and she’s a nasty, violent woman with a drinking problem. She let her daughter loot millions from the foundation, and gave classified info to her maid.

She’s was a lousy person, a lousy lawyer, a lousy warmongering Secretary, and a lousy presidential candidate.

            That’s why she lost.

          • FAEN

            ^Bill^ wannabe.

          • Bill_Perdue

            ^^DOMA loving Clinton wannabe.^^

          • FAEN

            Thin skinned. Just. Like. Trump.

          • Bill_Perdue

Lies a lot. Just like Trump.

          • Librarykid

But at least her loss spares her from torture by the rethugs in congress. If they send this country and its citizens to ruin, they will not have one democrat is a position of blame for what they are doing. If it is the end, it won’t be the first time a great country or even a terrible country has been destroyed by lies, income inequality and hate. Just pray it’s fast and you don’t survive it.

          • Mike__in_Houston

This is so true. The Rethugs made no secret of the fact that they were going to impeach her as soon as the inauguration was over. They were more than hinting that they were going to refuse hearings on her Supreme Court nominations. And I’m sure those things were just for starters. It would have been four years of nonstop torture for her that would have made what they did to Obama look like tiddlywinks. I’m sorry she lost, and if I were Hillary I would go to church and light a candle in thanks for what I have been spared.

With the current setup, at least, as you say, the Republicans will own whatever happens. That is, in the next few months until the Trump-instigated nuclear holocaust. After that, it won’t matter…

          • Galvestonian

They sure as hell are going to blame someone or some group. The bastards never admit any wrongdoing – NEVER – sometime in the next few months we’ll (we LGBT’s) will end up being dumped on, blamed and castigated for everything that’s wrong with the world.

          • Librarykid

You are very right, but there will not be any elected or appointed official of the Democratic Party in the path of any action they take. It will be up to the Democrats to make this known well and widely. If they go after groups, it will be the responsibility of fair-minded voters to halt those actions.

          • cleos_mom

I guess we could say it isn’t “justyouuuuuu”.

        • cleos_mom

Or any of the fucktards who eagerly bought into 20-25 year old Republican talking points, for that matter.

      • Nasty Girl Brianna
      • Zoey

She won so not sure what your point is.

      • Gene

you really are a TOTAL fucking idiot
Total, complete, and I am ashamed to say “that is another gay person” when I think of you.

        • FAEN

Heck we’ve been ashamed of self loathing gay republicans for years and we always will be. I don’t understand this pathetic need of theirs to beg the GOP to accept them. It’s just sad.

FYI gay republicans, your party wants us ALL DEAD. Chew on that assholes.

          • Kate

Voting for Trump doesn’t make you self-loathing.

I expect Trump to be better for the LGBT community than the clintons, who literally supported and signed laws to prevent marriage equality.

          • FAEN

[email protected] you. The man wants to appoint a SCJ who will overturn the Obergefell decision. What the hell are you smiling? And you are self loathing if you vote for a party that wants you dead.

          • Kate

No, he doesn’t. The court he appoints won’t overturn marriage equality.

          • FAEN

He just says he wants to. Means nothing right?

You can’t know the SCOTUS won’t overturn or put a dent in marriage equality. As a gay person how could you vote for the candidate who talks about it rather than the candidate who supports our community.

Whether you admit it or not you are self loathing.

          • Kate

He says it’s settled law. Realistically, un-marrying people doesn’t work, and it failed with Prop 8. SCOTUS isn’t going to unmarry people – it would cause chaos.

“How could you vote for the candidate who talks about rather than the candidate who supports our community?”

Hillary? We saw in the DNC leaks that she is still opposed to marriage equality. Hillary DOMA Clinton, who stated:

“Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman.”

No thanks. I’ll take the candidate who is actually doing things for LGBT people by ripping the anti-gay elements out of the Republican Party and encouraging his supporters to support LGBT individuals. I’ll take the first president to ever personally hold a pride parade, who cares about gays being thrown off buildings.

I’d rather have the man who causes real change than the woman who has a public and private position on everything, and who still doesn’t actually support marriage equality, after literally championing DOMA while her husband signed it.

          • Kate

My earlier comment should have read “pride flag”, not “pride parade”.

          • Bill_Perdue

Why are you a supporter of the Clintons DOMA?

          • FAEN

And you pulled the lever for which candidate?

          • Bill_Perdue

Why did you vote for DOMA, racist cops, union busting and wars of aggression?

        • Bill_Perdue

Self loather pretends not to be a self loather.

      • FAEN

Did you vote in the general election? If so who for. I’m curious.

        • Bill_Perdue

Why do you vote for racism, wars and union busters?

        • cleos_mom

Probably matched Kate’s Trump vote with one for “Doctor” Stein.

      • Lawerence Collins

You’re outnumbered here by those who would overlook all of Hillary’s flaws. These are the same ones that think Bernie Sanders wouldn’t have won.

        • Stephen Elliot Phillips

overlooking the flaws of an imperfect candidate but voting for that person is COMPLETELY different than…..

choosing to not vote for an imperfect candidate because of some high moral standard and allowing a monster baby-minded dictator and his billionaire clan of white supremecists to get elected

          The former is pragmatism.
          The latter is ignorant vindictiveness

            ^This^

          • Lawerence Collins

In the end, I voted the lesser of two evils. Hillary Clinton.

          • Ross

And I voted for the most qualified candidate ever, the candidate who deeply inspired me, the candidate who has spent a lifetime helping to make life better for millions of people. Hillary Clinton.

          • Lawerence Collins

I see.. you’re where I was back in 2015. Before I educated myself on who and what she’s really about.
Please open your eyes and educate yourself.

          • Ross

I have been educating myself about Hillary for 25 years.

The more I learn about her, the more I admire/like her.

          • Lawerence Collins

Wow… look, it’s your choice to stay ignorant to who she is. One day you will see. I hope you have someone to comfort you when it happens. I was angry and depressed.

Hillary’s flaws aren’t the issue here. LickyWeaks didn’t put out one thing that made ANY Republican look bad.

          • Lawerence Collins

No, there not. The fact that she failed horribly to have a message that resonated with the people. The fact that her campaign refused to go after the vote of working class people in the Midwest. The same people that ended up costing her the election.

          • Kate

Because they are WikiLeaks, not WikiHacks. They can only release emails leaked to them by insiders (DNC), released by the government (Hillary emails, FOIA), or hacked and given to them (Podesta).

If you want to see Republican leaks, you need republicans to leak. The DNC emails were leaked because an insider didn’t like the Foundation or how Bernie was treated.

If Trump pisses republicans off, you can expect Republican leaks in the future.

        • cleos_mom

I suspect you Trump supporters have a lot more to ‘overlook.’

            “war with Canada”
They’re stealing our citizens. Busloads. Too many papers. Traitors want to live with Socialists. Mounty’s crossing borders with our people on their starving horses. Pitiful. Sad.

        • The Ecuadorean government said it had granted Mr Assange asylum because it shared his fears of political persecution and the possible consequences of an eventual extradition to the United States.

But according to Santiago Basabe, a professor at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, Mr Correa’s reasons go beyond his declared interest in protecting Mr Assange’s rights.

“It is important to understand that this event was the conclusion of a very long negotiation between Mr Assange and the Ecuadorean government,” he said.

“Many see Mr Assange as somebody who has fought for freedom of speech and freedom of opinion, which are also key components of the Ecuadorean government official discourse.

“By granting him asylum, the government was trying to prove it really cares about freedom of opinion and freedom of the press, at a moment when Ecuador has been strongly criticised, both nationally and internationally, for the way the national government understands democracy,” Prof Basabe added.

            Fucking stupid assholes.

          • it was all very calculated for sure…

      • Mihangel apYrs

        has he been charged?

There’s a lot of mirk around this case, including possible political meddling, which could mean that it is a smoke screen to get him to Sweden for onward transit to a US facility . . .

        • justmeeeee

no, not charged, but convicted right here in the comments section of JMG!

    • Carl

A lot of that is going to go around over the next four years. People who shrugged off Trump’s off evil and voted for him anyway, twits who threw away their votes… everybody who played with fire will insist they don’t share any blame for all the deaths that are coming. Too bad. They are all guilty.

      • Raising_Rlyeh

The thing that disgusts me is that every American well probably be held as being responsible for trump even if they voted for Clinton. The worst thing I can imagine is trump using a nuke somewhere. No American would be able to leave the country ever again.

        • gaymex1

That’s assuming that there would be any Americans left to leave…there would be retaliation.
Many of us expats worry that he will screw up our lives as much as those who stayed in the U.S. There doesn’t seem to be a real escape if his hair trigger fantasies play out. He is basically a psycho let loose by republicans to carry their banner of greed, hate and stupidity into the world.

          • Librarykid

Well, I hope he carries them straight to hell under that banner. God Damn the Republican Party and the Roman Catholic Church.

          • gaymex1

Upvoted a million times. They deserve to be extinguished by their own hands. Since it’s Christmas, I’m just going to stop there.

          • cleos_mom

And damn a hefty number of “evangelical” churches who made Trump a de facto fourth member of their polytheistic Trinity.

          • Librarykid

            Ramen!

          • With regard to Trump, we can all fall on the pile of human self-pity, of helplessness or we can be the phoenix that rises from the ashes – more beautiful, stronger and life-giving. I would recommend the Huffington Post that posted the great things that happened in 2016. Show the world that decent Americans can and will over-come this “lesson” Hillary won by 3 million votes. helthehatter.tumblr.com

Put on the song “Rise Up Rise UP” by parachute club.

2017 will be a year where individuals – you and me – are challenged to ‘rise up’ – It might mean volunteering or donating money or becoming politically active. If you value Hillary then do what Hillary has done in the past, is doing now, and will do in the future – MAKE A DIFFERENCE where you are planted. A powerful and fulfilling New Year 2017 to you all.

          • gaymex1

I think there’s more anger than self-pity on JMG. There will be fighting back. There already is.
Please—not to interested in Dr. Pangloss at the moment. It’s not 1759 and Trump is a danger to the world. There’s no way to ignore that sad fact.

          • cleos_mom

Sorry, no greeting-card sentiments will address this; and a retreat into Kumbayahland would be among very worst and unproductive responses.

          • goofy_joe

Also so many people I talked to say they didn’t like him, but they voted for him so they could “stick it” to the Democrats and Hillary especially. How childish and irresponsible as citizens.

          • gaymex1

Really distressing that some folks–enough to swing the election–would be that irresponsible. But they were. Now the world has to deal with their “vote of conscience”. Selfish pricks.

      • cleos_mom

This would be a bit more relevant with a mushroom cloud in the background.

Instead you should blame the rabid racism, warmongering and union busting history of the Clintons.

  • Giant Monster Gamera

Foreign interference in our election and both parties are silent.

  • Dramphooey

“A Clinton win would have been a ‘consolidation of power in the existing ruling class of the United States.’”

It will be so much better when the existing ruling class is replaced with a new, fascist, white supremacist, LGBT hating ruling class that actually wants to start a nuclear arms race.

Where were the Trump email? Where were his tax returns? Couldn’t find any of that and release it? Anyone that believes anything this guy says going forward is a complete fool and a tool of warmongering reactionaries.

and trump will make it so assanges charges are disappeared….
THATS the real reason for this. Oh and assange is a putin-o-phile

      • kaydenpat

Not sure he can do that since the charges are in Sweden.

        • Kate

Sweden isn’t the problem. He’s worried about the US.

    • Gerry Fisher

Yep. Let’s look at the inner workings of BOTH campaigns to judge their “character.” That would have been a fair fight.

      • Kate

        That would have been better.

        • cleos_mom

But wouldn’t have turned out the way you apparently wanted.

          • Kate

I want transparency, and recognize that Trump was the better candidate.

I know the Republican Party itself is corrupt – it’s why Trump is literally the only Republican I’ve ever voted for.

Remember, they hated him and pulled out all the stops to try to get any other republican they could. They didn’t have the superdelegates to steal the nomination like the DNC did.

I would expect there to still be a president Trump (benefits of being an outsider), and fewer republican congressmen. With any luck, McCain would be on the list of people mired in scandal – I would love to see him lose.

          • cleos_mom

            In other words —

It won’t turn out the way you wanted.

  • abqdan

There’s zero doubt that this was intentional on his part. But no, I don’t blame him for the election result. There was plenty of information available about Trump, and plenty of things to cause major concern. No, I blame the stupid racist old white male republicans who elected him, and the equally stupid black and hispanic voters who stayed home because they didn’t think Obama had done enough for them. They will be the ones who will suffer most from their decision – karma is a bitch.

    • more white people didn’t vote than both nonvoting blacks and hispanics combined.

    • Dramphooey

I agree but would add whether Assange’s efforts had a result is irrelevant. He only presented damaging information directed at one side. He’s scum because we can see where his efforts were directed. Not one bad thing about racists and alt-right Nazis.

    • Mike__in_Houston

They believed the five-second sound bytes and the “Hillary for Prison” t-shirts they saw and never bothered to investigate any further. • SoCalGal20

    Fuck off, Julian.

I don’t know if this was posted over here at all but a couple of days ago, Teen Vogue writer Lauren Duca (she wrote articles on Trump for Teen Vogue, including the recent gaslighting article that got a lot of buzz) was on Tucker Carlson’s show, in which he was a condescending, misogynist douche (what else is new) and she handed him his ass. It’s a thing of beauty.

    https://twitter.com/mediaite/status/812466196620705792

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

It seems that the fashion mags are doing the jobs other mags should be doing. Esquire, GQ, Teen Vogue . . .

      • SoCalGal20

Who knew somebody could write in praise of Ariana Grande thigh high boots AND Trump’s gaslighting?!

    • Dramphooey

So we have to rely on Teen Vogue and maybe Tiger Beat to do the job we were fooled into thinking LickyWeaks was going to do.

      • SoCalGal20

Wikileaks is just a source of document dumps. It takes somebody else to actually do something with them.

The lesson here I guess is don’t dismiss what seems like an unlikely source of news/commentary. Be a discerning reader. Make an assessment based on the content of the article, not an assumption based on the publication.

        • Dramphooey

I do not know of a single dump by this fraud that hurt an authoritarian government. LickyWeaks is a source of dumps, all right, if you remember for what “dump” is often used as an euphemism.

        • Todd20036

Document dumps imply, I don’t know, ACTUAL DOCUMENTS.

Doctored emails and hyped up nothing-burgers are not documents.

Wikileaks is a fraud. A scam to suppress free thinkers and to hype up Nazis and other fascists.

Assange is an enabler for dictators.

          Snowden was a fool.

          • Dramphooey

Snowden ought to be shaking in his shoes as Putin and Trump become chummy. What happens when you are no longer useful? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/97e2a08b08541f2ec53825c04b287c4525a3fbe1339bb111b0d4a19b31170e44.png

          • cleos_mom

Putin will get tired of him, just like Trump will get tired of Melania. Both will be traded in, like a billionaire’s six-month-old car.

          • SoCalGal20

When Wikileaks started they were ACTUAL DOCUMENTS.

I’m not defending Assange by any stretch, just pointing out that dumping a bunch of docs on the internet – doctored, fake, overblown, or legit – is just a pile of documents (yes, even nothingburger enails are documents) until somebody starts to go through them.

          • Todd20036

They were hyped up to be something more than they were. Moreover, they were timed so that even the existing of them implied something.

If you really think Wikileaks was anything more than a backdoor attempt at subverting the election, then you’re way more naive than I ever thought you were.

          • SoCalGal20

LOL one thing I am not is naive.

OF COURSE they were hyped up to be more than they were, just like fucking Comey’s stupid letter.

I’m not sure how anything I said can be interpreted as anything other than trying to subvert the election but whatever, Todd.

          • Guest

He does that all of the time many here do. They cannot respond to what is actually written, so they attack hat they want to have been written. Your posts were consistent and logical. People can disagree, but on the facts.

          • Todd20036

Says the man without an account.

          • Guest

Which does not change the fact presented. To bad you are not supportive of full disclosure when it is not what you want.

          • Todd20036

You implied that Wikileaks was like some sort of giant library full of vetted books and the such. That the information there was all true and people simply picked and chose which items they wanted to use.

But the materials there were not in any way vouched for, and that Wikileaks became a source of distorted facts, fake news, and in the end, a giant propaganda machine for Trump

“Wikileaks is a source of document dumps. It takes somebody to actually do something with them….”

          • Guest

Another lie by Todd. He said data and never used the term vetted. In fact, he said the opposite. Raw data can be reviewed and unfortunately then manipulated. That is why the press is to face check.

          • Kate

The emails were vouched for. Many were from FOIA, the rest generally had digital signatures from Google.

Emails may be missing (which doesn’t break signatures), but the emails are genuine. That’s why nobody in the DNC has said otherwise.

          • PickyPecker

    Julian Assange

Julian Assange proved in 2016 that even from the two-room de facto prison of London’s Ecuadorean embassy, it’s possible to upend the powers-that-be. In WikiLeaks’ most influential and controversial moves since it first rose to national attention in 2010, Assange masterminded the leaks of emails from the Democratic National Committee and the email account of Hillary Clinton campaign staffer John Podesta. Never mind that those leaks appeared to come not from internal whistleblowers but from external hackers, believed by US intelligence agencies to be on Russia’s payroll. Assange has denied that his source is Russian. But it’s a curious claim: WikiLeaks is designed to guarantee sources’ anonymity, so that even he can’t identify them. He also promises those sources he’ll “maximize the impact” of their leaks. And in this election, he kept his promise.

Yeah you did, you gave ammo to Twitler to use against Hillary and the democrats, as well as deflated enthusiasm for Hillary to where I would hear people say “she’s not that bad” or “she’s better than trump” when you should have been fucking ecstatic because she would have been an continuation of the Obama legacy, and instead you brought people to stay home or instead vote third party. You played a big role in ruining this election.🖕🖕🖕

Correa will be out of office in 2019. A new government will be elected in Ecuador and this turd will be unceremoniously shoved out onto the sidewalk.

      • Dreaming Vertebrate

A total BS artist. This jerk will get his due in the end.

  • Ray

    Tool.

  • bmoore4026

Screw you! We’ll blame you for whatever we want from 2008 to now.

  • BeaverTales

We can continue to blame everyone else for Hillary’s loss except for Hillary herself…..or maybe the progressives can find another Democrat candidate in 2020 who is popular outside of urban coastal states. We once had a popular candidate who won every swing state except Florida and Ohio, but we demonized him and now we have Drumpf.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I can find Hillary to be a lacking candidate and do not want her to run again in 2020 and still find Assange to suck the almighty. I can also find a lot of the Putin machinations and Comey and the MSM just giving Trump a rim job to be disgusting as well.

    • Ninja0980

Then why didn’t he win the primary if he was so popular?
And spare the primary was rigged garbage.
Bernie thought he could give a middle finger to part of the Democratic primary base and still win.
      He couldn’t and thus lost.

      • BeaverTales

Hillary gave a middle finger to the folks who were not urban blue state voters and obviously didn’t win. And many Bernie voters who were marginalized in the primaries were certainly not going to turn out for Hillary.

Bernie was a good sport and campaigned for Hillary. Manyy of his supporters defected when he did that

If Wasserman Shultz, the payday loan lobbyist, had played fair, they might have. Because Wasserman Schultz made Hillary’s coronation easier at the expense of Bernie’s voters. I read DWS’s emails, and they weren’t flattering to people who believe in democracy. There is no question how Hillary won the primaries in many states. Spare me as well.

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’m glad DWS is gone but ughh, I look at Trump, his VP and his candidate and the SCOTUS and I can’t go “Yeah, this will teach the Dems! And everything will be totes better in 2020!”

        • Tiger Quinn

I don’t plan to “spare you,” I plan to tell you to just fuck off.

        • Dramphooey

You guys need to make this point without throwing rocks.

          • BeaverTales

Why not attack the person who threw rocks first then?

            Never mind, I know why

          • Bill_Perdue

The massive support for Sanders, who never intended to do anything but a sellout, has severely damaged the damaged the Democrats, just as Trump will do to the Republicans when it becomes clear that the can’t and won’t work for high paying union jobs.

The continued problems of the Democrats and Republicans is a good thing.

        • Ninja0980

You mean the e-mails that were illegally obtained?
I’m betting if we had been able to look at the e-mails of Bernie and his staff, we would have found they weren’t perfect angels either.
As for the complaint about the primaries, since when is thinking long term rules shouldn’t apply to you marginalizing them?
And to your last point about many Bernie voters not voting for Hillary, that is the difference between many voters on the left and the right.
At the end of the day, the right will still get out and vote for the Republican candidate.
Our side insists on purity or sending a message by sitting out.
All I know is this, the Bernie voters who think they sent a message by staying home or voting third party have assured everything they care about will be destroyed.

    • MBear

      OMLOG! She has FLAWS!!!

Better ensure a Trump victory because FLAWS!!!

    • JWC

The democrats were divided over Bernie and Hillary. I don’t think Bernie would have lasted against Trump but, that is now academic, as neither did Hillary. That rift however didn’t fully recover and there was always an animosity between the 2 camps. Hillary on her own, became arrogant and could smell the win. She failed to attract the “deplorables” and women did not trust her. All fickle reasonning but in an election that brought lying, name calling and sexual impropity to the fore and norm. It became an “anything goes” campaign and showed the world the ugly underbelly of the USA. If this exercise and its current champion did anything, it was to very much cheapen the US name in the eyes of the world. it could very much be the turning point

      • MΩebym

She was never going to attract the deplorables anyway; her goal was to attract the “middle”. As for the distrust, it was built up from decades of smears from both right and left, and she did nothing to deserve it.

I do concede that her camp probably was too confident in their assumption that enough people would find Trump distasteful.

        • JWC

I Watched Michael Moore on Bill Maher back in August ,or around there, and that was his comment “over confidence” I am a Canadian so I could not have done anything about it other than offer my thoughts

        • JWC

another interesting fact came out that had nothing to do with hacking, rigging or anything else, just a statistic After a party has been it for 2 terms the odds are high that there will be a shift to the other party. This was the starngest of campaigns, rarely are the 2 candidate so hated Usually that would work to one or the others favor Like the Clinton establishment or not the one thing she had over Trump was experience, that’s the one thing Pence has over Trump. I do not believe that being a good businessman ( Donald’s words) necessarily makes a good leader. Time,I suppose will tell. With the Billionaire cabinet I am a bit concerned for the rights of the common Joe

    • SoCalGal20

After the GOP unloaded their oppo on Socialist! Rape Apologist! Government Freeloader! Bernie (not to mention, whatever crap they could dig up on Jane) I doubt he would have been in good shape. And unless you have a time machine, it doesn’t matter.

Maybe time to focus on countering the smear campaign on Keith Ellison for DNC chair or something.

      • BeaverTales

I think fair elections matter, and when almost half the Democratic Party base doesn’t believe the DNC played fair, it’ll matter in 2020. We should fix the problem instead of burying it.

      • canoebum

The video of Sanders attending the inauguration of Daniel Ortega, the murderous socialist President of Nicaragua and devotee of Fidel, would have played endlessly. Anyone who thinks that the GOP weren’t prepared to destroy Bernie is living in la la land.

        • BeaverTales

I think if attending Ortega’s inauguration was the worst thing that Trump could throw at Bernie, Bernie would have won against Trump, like he did in all the polls that showed him ahead of Hillary v. Trump in a Trump matchup since February..

It’s interesting how every major GOP leader refused to endorse Trump and threw things at him and didn’t donate to him, combined with all the Democrat oppo on Trump, *and* the hacked release of his tax returns still didn’t sink him, though he spent far less than Hillary in the general..

Trump still managed to win 300+ electoral votes, many of them from swing states that Bernie easily won in the primary. Hillary outspent Bernie in those states as well.

          • Dramphooey

He won the Democratic primaries in those states. That I said not the same as winning the state.

          • BeaverTales

Um, yeah, he can’t win a state if he didn’t get the nomination. DWS made sure of that.

          • canoebum

Like I said, la la land. I liked Bernie, I still do. I like a lot of his ideas and his forthright manner of expressing them. He was never going to win. He was an independent running for the nomination of a party he joined only so he could run for President. He lost the Primary. Let me repeat that; he lost the Primary. He had his chance, and voters decided they wanted another candidate. Stop deluding yourself. Trump won because of a conspiracy between James Comey, Rudolph Giuliani and Jason Chaffetz, and with a lot of help from Vladimir Putin. He won by loudly appealing to racial hatred, which has always been strong in this country, to our everlasting shame. I hate to say it, but you’re engaging in blaming the victim. We could have used some unity to fight back the beast, but some people just refused to join in. You probably wrote in Bernie in the General, or didn’t bother to cast a vote. Progressive ideas lost because too many people let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Now look where we are. Thanks a bunch.

(BTW, the pages of Trump’s tax returns weren’t “hacked”. They were sent by letter to the New York Times, probably by the only person other than Trump who had the legal right to do so, Marla Maples).

          • BeaverTales

“I like a lot of his ideas and his forthright manner of expressing them. He was never going to win.”

Sorry, but after Nov 8 2016, no one who actually understands American politics believes that anymore. A strong logical argument can be made that Mrs. Clinton had every conceivable advantage in this election and still lost worse than Gore in 2000. The popular vote doesn’t matter. And Mrs. Clinton’s coattails were worthless to most Democrats outside of the coastal beltways.

The “Sanders cost Clinton the election” myth is easily disproved. The Clinton campaign did an excellent job of losing it themselves. If someone of Mrs. Clinton’s history and media stature couldn’t win the General Election…..maybe our definition of “winnable” needs to be reexamined. I hope we do.

            The logical conclusions are obvious:

[1]The GOP folks (most of the party elite included) who opposed Trump said he couldn’t win and he won anyway.

[2]Trump spent less than $300 million ($66 million of which he loaned to himself) to Mrs. Clinton’s $1.2 billion. Unlike Clinton and our DNC elites, the GOP elites didn’t back him until the final week of the election. Most SuperPACs supported Clinton by a much larger amount than $300M.

[3]Mrs. Clinton lost the General Election by 70 electoral votes, losing the support of reliably blue states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan that even Gore won, as well as almost every “purple” swing state despite ~5 months of *full* support from the DNC AND Sen. Sanders she STILL lost. The rural Democrats who supported her (against their better judgment) got mostly clobbered. Now we’ve lost the Senate and House, we’re replacing the leadership with the exact same people in a bid to prepare for the next cycle. Not logical. We’re done. Say goodbye to gay rights for the next 30-50 years

[4]Indeed, Sanders lost in June, thanks in no small part to the deceit and skullduggery of the DNC chair. If Clinton had competed on a level playing field against him the whole way the outcome would have been different..

Time to reexamine who “lives in LaLa land”, as you’ve so eloquently put it….. Echo Chambers are notoriously hard to penetrate….even the ones inside the Beltways of major coastal cities.

          • canoebum

Again, because apparently you still don’t understand…Senator Sanders lost the Democratic Primary. He wasn’t the choice of the majority of Democrats. The so-called Democratic voters who refused to support the party’s nominee selfishly withheld their votes in the General, all so they could send a “message”. The Bernie or Bust crowd weren’t thinking about the good of the nation. They didn’t get their way, so they took their ball and went home.

” Sanders lost in June, thanks in no small part to the deceit and skullduggery of the DNC chair.” Typical deflection. I’ve got news for you: politics ain’t beanbags. Sanders knew that going in. If he wanted to win the nomination of the Democratic Party, he should have joined 30 years ago.

          • BeaverTales

“If he wanted to win the nomination of the Democratic Party, he should have joined 30 years ago.”

Politics ain’t beanbags. I agree. Yes, it’s a pity Sen. Sanders wasn’t psychic, nor could afford to bankroll a campaign with his own money, like Trump. SuperPAC money comes with SuperPAC strings, rules, conditions and priorities.

Newsflash: When voters feel ignored, cheated and marginalized, they tend not to come to the polls in droves. Yeah, it’s been like that in America since at least 1800 or so…. Millions of dollars in consulting fees will of course be spent telling Schumer(NYC) and Pelosi(SF) the obvious.

For the past 20 years, the Democratic Party has had two centers of Power: NYC and SF, financial utopias built on the backs of numerous bailed out criminal banking cartels. Schumer and Pelosi represent less than 20% of the Democratic base in America, but have all the money.

One thing 2016 proved: Politicians who live in echo chambers composed entirely of delusional apparatchiks and truckloads of money don’t win elections when people are pissed off about losing their homes and jobs to banks in NYC and SF. Capisce?

Outside of those places, people are really struggling. Democrats from swing states and purple states were told by Ms. Wasserman Schultz in 2016 that their opinions don’t actually matter, and if they try to revolt against their betters in SF and NYC, their votes will be helpfully reassigned to whichever candidate the DNC leadership has chosen for them. Dumping her is the only good decision the Democrats made in 2016.

Because the DNC leadership will forever choose to blame the American voter for its own ineptitude, we’ll have to wait for Schumer and Pelosi to die off or retire for meaningful reform….we need a serious self examination of this election and making right with its voters before this party becomes viable again.

          • canoebum

Quit your whining, please. You weren’t ignored, cheated or marginalized. You just stopped listening.

          • BeaverTales

LOL….Sorry honey, some of us are still dues-paying members of the DNC who plan to use our constitutional power to make changes to punish the Clinton cheaters in our respective states. Your side broke DNC bylaws, we have proof, and we won’t let you get away with it anymore.

Shit Is Gonna Get Real in 2017.

Wasserman won’t be the only one out on her big fat incredibly stupid sloppy ass either. No more advancement opportunities for anyone caught cheating at multiple state conventions….

            It’ll be “buh bye” Feliciabitchez!!!…most definitely i

In all the Sanders states where Hillary is owed nothing (Swing states, IA, NH, NV being the most important Bernie leaning states (with grudges against fraudsters) for 2020….you guys can have SC, lol) and we have most of the Western and midwestern states) We’re aching to fix all the shit that Hillary broke at the state level first.

          • canoebum

My side? My side was the one that wanted to win the battle in front of us at the time. I already told you I agreed with much of what Bernie advocated during the campaign. I’m quite progressive in my thinking and politics. But the Bernie or Bust supporters who stayed home or wrote in his name or left that column of the ballot blank were not thinking very clearly. This is a war of ideas, Progressivism versus Conservatism. They wanted to win the war in one big battle, this past Presidential election. Wars are not won that way. You have to pick your battles and win them one at a time. This last election was a vital turning point. How have Progressive ideas and policies been advanced as a result of the petulance of disaffected Sanders supporters like yourself handing the reins of government to Trump and McConnell? You folks are as bad as the Trump supporters who would rather see the country burned down than have to cooperate with “the other side”. Your advocacy for more progressive government would have been greatly advanced by a Clinton win when compared to what we have now. Progressives could have worked with Clinton, even Bernie told you that. Herr Trump won’t give you the time of day. Every time Der Herr makes another appointment of a billionaire or fanatic out to dismantle the Federal government, remember what “your side” did to put us here. So, again, thanks a bunch.

          • BeaverTales

Having my vote stolen does indeed tend to make me “petulant”. If Clinton’s unpopularity had not been papered over by a 1000 dirty DWS tricks, we would have a very progressive President Sanders in January, not Trump.

The Hillary heroes like DWS put us here. Pseudoprogressive loansharking assclown broke the rules and forced a losing candidate on us. You guys got your wish, by hook or by crook. The Hillary people fucked it up for everyone.

          • canoebum

If you think Assange is going to be working for a progressive candidate in four years you are fooling yourself.

      • BeaverTales

I never mentioned Assange. At all.

Assange doesn’t matter. If he doesn’t hack the next candidate Putin opposes, someone else eventually will.

If all the people who didn’t play fair are stupid enough to leave a paper trail that is hackable, they’ll eventually get exposed by a hacker someplace on the planet.

        • Dramphooey

Well, the thread is about Assmange as distasteful as he is.

          • BeaverTales

You told me that I think Assange is a progressive hero, and I corrected you because you were wrong…there are lots of reasons Hillary lost. Assange is a minor reason. I think it’s likely that the candidate herself was the biggest reason.

          • Dramphooey

She made mistakes, definitely in Wisconsin. I’ll concede that.

    • NZArtist

So… we should blame Hillary for losing, but not blame Bernie for losing?
      Got it, thanks.

      • BeaverTales

Why only Hillary gets a free pass on her mistakes is a mystery I never understood. Well since we are blaming everyone else for Hillary’s loss except Hillary herself, I should expect that cheating is only okay if the DNC/DWS does it.

        Ok, got it. Sorry,.

  • Yeah no consolidation of power in the Trump cabinet picks. Nope. Not in the least.

We have no right to read other people’s private emails. I agree with the idea that our government often acts in secrecy not in the interest of national security but in their own self-interest and more often than not to cover up their own stupidity and corruption. But if we had the right to see the emails of the Clinton campaign, then certainly we also had the right to see those of the Trump campaign. Without both then it’s a legitimate complaint that Assange was acting specifically to harm Clinton. Also, he’s an accused rapist hiding out to escape prosecution for a serious crime so fuck that mother fucker. No one should be getting to hide out in an embassy to avoid criminal prosecution. Fuck Ecuador as well. Fuck them all and merry fucking Christmas.

    • Gil

How do people draw this absurd conclusion that Assange is just sitting on all the world’s dirt, and that the only reason he hasn’t published hordes of it on other players is because he’s either in collusion with the Russians, the Republicans and/or Cthulhu to destroy the legacy of one particular war-mongerging Neo-Liberal in a pantsuit.

        • Gil

Again, where do you get this notion that Wikileaks is actively responsible for any leaked documentation? It isn’t some clandestine group of anarchists criss-crossing the planet and surreptitiously sifting through databases and garbage bins for everybody’s dirty little secrets. It’s only a clearinghouse. And they can only potentially publish that which others provide them. Whistleblowers. Hackers. Etc..

          • NO MORE GOP!

And there are no people leaking or willing to leak stuff like this? Oh, please.

          • Bill_Perdue

            They’re whistle blowing is heroic.

          • Gil

If you have any evidence to support claims of Assange’s collusion to suppress materials harmful to the “enemy”, present it, otherwise you and everyone else here are engaging in little else than libellous scapegoating.

It’s entirely possible the RNC (even Trump, himself) was similarly hacked, and by the very same individual or group, but if it serves the interests of this individual or group to suppress this information (given blackmail gets better results than whistleblowing) it therefore stands to reason this material was not passed along to Wikileaks.

OT: Enough with this asshole. Now for some fun news. For you Netflixers out there the Sense8 Christmas episode is now available. This was the best series, in my opinion, from 2015.

Once I pry the remote out of my friends hands we’re set to watch it tonight…..btw, it’s getting some great reviews.

Unfortunately S2 won’t be out until May or something!

      • Cuberly

Isn’t that a bummer? But I’d rather they do the work to get it right. It has such a great premise and the production value has been surprising for a Netflix series.

        • SoCalGal20

Netflix spends big money on their series ( not sure what the budget is for Sense8, though). The Get Down is the extreme of that but I get the impression they don’t skimp.

          • Cuberly

Sounds like they make some good money though. Was reading that Brazil has the second largest netflix subscriber base. That was news to me. Apparently their shows are REALLY big in Brazil. But since Netflix has become global, well, that’s a lot of monthly subscriptions.

I’m glad they’re popular elsewhere as well as here. Netflix is producing some excellent shows. I can’t wait for the second half of S1 of The Get Down and I’m going to check out that new series OA later today. I have no idea what it’s about.

          • djcoastermark

Hubs just binge watched OA. A bit disturbing for me at times, but overall, not a bad show. (the end though??? ) I’ll have to check out The Get Gown. Hadn’t heard of that.

          • SoCalGal20

The Get Down is awesome. Excellent cast, interesting characters, I love the soundtrack.

    • djcoastermark

Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. ( and of course the steamy scenes too) It’s ok, you can call me trash.

      • Cuberly

Lol…hey Trash!…no worries, that orgy scene in season one, where ya saw Wolfgang’s fuzzy butt made me think some rather impure thoughts as well. Guess I’m trashy too…heh heh…

  • Assange wasn’t the author of the emails. The ultimate responsibility lies with them. Had they not been written it wouldn’t matter what he posted.

    • stevenj

The emails…….with not much of anything in them. BTW, why didn’t he publish any hacked Republican emails?

      • Gianni

Because he wasn’t trying to influence the outcome of the election, so he said.

        • stevenj

          And do you believe that?
“he said he had “mixed” feelings about the presidential election, but said a Clinton win would have been a “consolidation of power in the existing ruling class of the United States.”
Consolidation of power of the existing ruling class? The 1%? Look at Trump’s picks for his cabinet. The High Cabal. The 1% of the 1%. That is exactly what got elected.

  • Niblet58

    Liar.

  • SoCalGal20
  • Phil in FLL

Assange’s statement is a creative blend of truth and dishonesty. Yes, Julian Assange certainly wanted to hurt Clinton’s chances of victory, and that is common knowledge. No, Julian Assange’s Wikileaks information—which amounted to nothing more than some banal DNC gossip—was not the reason Clinton lost. Assange had nothing to do with Clinton’s private email server, which was public knowledge in March of 2015, and he had nothing to do with the hubris involved in Hillary’s announcement of her candidacy one month later, in April of 2015.

I have read in various places that in 2015 the Democratic power brokers “cleared the field” for Hillary to run. Could anyone explain the meaning of the term “clear the field”? Does that mean threaten and intimidate the usual potential candidates—Joe Biden, sitting vice president and Andrew Cuomo, sitting governor of New York? Was the goal of such “clearing the field” to remove opposition in the primary to the white female candidate that Hillary’s supporters had decided was entitled to the presidency regardless of how unpopular she was due to the private email server?

    • Phil in FLL

Allow me to elaborate on what might guarantee political defeat. Richard Nixon pulled what I would call “an Al Capone.” He hired some thugs to burglarize the offices of the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton pulled what I would call “a Louis XIV.” When Louis XIV was asked to describe the nature of the government and the state in France, he famously replied, “I am the state.” Hillary maintained all email correspondence of the State Department as her personal property. Under her tenure, State Department email was not the property of the U.S. government, with copies store in a federal building, that could be reviewed under the Freedom of Information Act (if necessary). The State Department correspondence was her personal property, the only copy of which was stored on a server in her home, to save or destroy as she found convenient.

Cabinet-level officials have never acted that way. Information, whether digital or on paper, has always been considered government property, not the personal property of an individual. Hence, the comparison with Louis XIV. 2015 would have been the time for Democratic Party “power brokers” to have backed off and let Biden or Cuomo run for president, if they had wanted to. What happened?

    • Ross

You wrote: “I have read in various places…”

OMG! You read something? In various places?

      THEN IT MUST BE TRUE!

      • Phil in FLL

Below is a link to one thoughtful analysis from CBS News in 2014. From the poll data quoted in this news article, registered Democrats preferred other well-known Democrats, including Biden, to run rather than just Hillary. Historically, sitting vice-presidents (not to mention governors of New York) have often been presidential candidates. You would think this would be even more true after Hillary’s private email server became public knowledge in March, 2015. This year’s election results seem to reveal that purely identitarian politics (e.g., “the first female president”) is a losing strategy. Here is the link to the 2014 CBS article:

        http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-in-2016-inevitable-again/

        And a link from MSNBC:

        http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/matthews-i-think-bill-clinton-wants

      • Phil in FLL

You may say that the links I provided you with from CBS, MSNBC and the NYT are written by journalists who, due to the fact that they are human, have an opinion. True enough. But sarcasm aside, their opinion, based on their background knowledge and research, might be as valid as yours. Stranger things have happened.

        • It’s 2016

They are also years old and completely off point. We get it, your irrational hatred of Hillary causes you refer to articles from 2012 as gospel. Regardless,it is all moot, Hillary won the primary. Period. Of course she had support from members of the party she had been part of for decades, building political support in your own party is not a vice, at least not to rational people.
Hillary would have sailed through this if it hadn’t been for Comey and Assange, your 3 and 4 year old articles not withstanding,

          • Phil in FLL

In August, Trump’s unfavorability was about 63% among adults and 60% among registered voters, a sentiment you may agree with. In August, Hillary’s unfavorability was about 56% among adults and 59% among registered voters, a sentiment you may not agree with. Even if you disagree with about 60% of Americans, I wouldn’t call their opinion irrational.

My modest proposal is that the spell has been broken. I say that because after the election, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Cuomo made it so clear that they would be willing to run in 2020. None of those three people were willing to say that in 2015. And it’s just as well that the spell has been broken.

      • Phil in FLL

See my reply to kareemachan just above.

    • kareemachan

Yeah, right. You’re SO objective. “Various places” my ass.

      • Phil in FLL

I posted a reply with links under Ross’s comment, but I don’t see it now. I will post it again here. These are three links to news articles that mention how top Democrats cleared the way for Hillary’s run in 2015.

From MSNBC (at the time of the Democratic convention in 2012):

        http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/matthews-i-think-bill-clinton-wants

From CBS in 2014, with data from polls showing that more Democrats than not wanted Joe Biden or someone else to run in addition to Hillary:

        http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-in-2016-inevitable-again/

From New York Times op-ed pages last month containing the following:

Top Democrats did their best to clear the field for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and left themselves with a problem they didn’t see coming: Their nominee was deeply out of step with the electorate’s mood.

Here is the link to the NYT article:

        http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/17/opinion/democrats-let-your-leaders-emerge.html?_r=0

These articles are all written by experienced journalists from CBS, MSNBC and the NYT. This year’s election results may show that purely identitarian politics (such as “first female president”) that ignores whether the candidate is popular or not is a losing strategy.

In fact when three pages from his tax returns were published far from congratulating the source and the journalists who verified the documents, Wikileaks responded by dismissing the publication as invalid because it wasn’t first handed to Wikileaks’ gang of censors for approval.

What I’m tired of this is the whole “Phoenix from the Flame” where you burn something down completely in order to have something better rise from it.

It works for magical birds. It doesn’t work for freaking political parties.

If you want us to vote for a purer and more progressive person then fucking create some fucking candidates we can vote for. Don’t just demand it from a system you know is problematic, go into a huff and let the polar opposite take control. With that attitude, we’re going to have Pences, Trump and George W types forever and ever.

Explain to me this: How the fuck does a Trump presidency get us ANY CLOSER to single payer? How does it make things better for minorities?

I can assure you this that a lot of minorities do not think a fucking Trump presidency is reassuring on any goddamn level especially with jack-offs running around screaming that they get to hurt PoCs because Trump won. And even the Trumpeteers are whining about losing their pwecious benefits that they thought their pale skin would somehow exempt them from losing.

You can scream Hill-bots and O-bots until your throat hurts but it doesn’t make Trump go the fuck away. Got any suggestions for THAT CURRENT PROBLEM?

    • MΩebym

Thank you. This needed to be said.

All those purity trolls need to know this: if you want a candidate with whom you’re in 100% agreement on the issues, run your damn self. Otherwise, choose the candidate whose views most closely match those of your own, and who have a demonstrated history of advocating for the issues you care about.

Hillary and Bernie voted the same way over 90% of the time in the Senate, but you wouldn’t know it from those idiots.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

What I’m not hearing from them is that they give a shit about the people who ARE going to be hurt by a Trump administration. They will never apologize to non-white people that the neo Nazis are going to enjoy harassing without impediments for as long as Trump is in power. They’re not going to bother to make any sort of amends to the people who lose limbs because Trump gets us into another war or people who suffer more because the cops get gobs and gobs of military equipment.

I don’t see them as being any different than the morons who take Obamacare in Kentucky, yet voted for a GOP governor and Trump because Obamacare wasn’t exactly to their wishes then wonder “Why oh why am I losing Obamacare?”

and look at all the anti-gay Cabinet noms he’s made! Jesus!

        • Ninja0980

From what I’ve been seeing, the anti-Hillary folks on our side post-election seem to be happier that Hillary was defeated than they are fearful or upset about Trump or his supporters. Like, hello? This is not about her. It never was about her.

The Republican National Committee is denying claims that its annual Christmas message compared President-elect Donald Trump to Jesus. Social media, however, has its doubts.

The message from RNC Chair Reince Priebus and Co-chair Sharon Day referenced the birth of Jesus, then said, “Just as the three wise men did on that
