Target Boycott Petition Hits One Million Names

Breitbart is thrilled:

More than 1,000,000 people have signed the boycott pledge against Target, following the secretive decision by executives to open all of their stores’ bathrooms and changing rooms to people of both sexes.

Late Thursday night, roughly 75 people a minute were adding their name to the petition as it clicked over 1 million, just after 10:30 pm Eastern Time.

“That’s a million families who are going to spread the word about Target, so they may not get those customers back,” or their money, said Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, which has hosted the boycott.

Target’s “management is just going to have step up here [and] say ‘We’re selling hammers and hats, we’re not into social engineering,’” he said.

Amid the turmoil, the company’s stock edged down from $83.98 per share on April 19 to roughly $81.33 in April 28. That’s a loss of $2.65 per share, which chops the company’s stock market value by $1.5 billion, down to $48.8 billion.

The company’s Twitter, however, has been very inactive. The most recent tweet was sent out April 19, even tough the company has been sending out a tweet every two or three days in the first half of April.

On Tuesday the company told USA Today that it “firmly stands” behind its transgender policy.

UPDATE: Breitbart managed to omit this tidbit from the AFA’s statement: “We want to make it very clear that the AFA does not believe the transgender community poses this danger to the wider public. Rather, this misguided and reckless policy provides a possible gateway for predators who are out there.”

  • Rebecca Gardner

Target is getting so much awesome free advertising. I think I need to go clothes shopping at Target today.

    • shellback

If there was a Target within a thousand miles of here, I’d be shopping there as well.

      • BetterIdeasForLiving

The closest one to me takes more effort to get to than I’m usually willing to put in, and I’m not much of a shopper anyway. But I’m going to buy some stuff online at their website just to be supportive (and stick it to the AFA morons).

      • delk

I went yesterday. There is one three blocks from my house. I walk there.

      • Jeffg166

        You can shop there online.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

        target.com

They deliver. I’m sure you can find something you need.

    • bkmn

If you have furry critter friends I have found that Target usually beats Petsmart and Petco. On top of that you can order pet food online to be picked up at the customer service desk and currently there is a 10% discount on top of the already low prices.

    • Let’s go!

  • shellback

Signing and following through are two entirely different things.

  • Matt

I bet at least half of those names are fake or duplicates or fraudulent in some way. It’s conservatives, so there’s likely something fishy going on. When they don’t get their way, they lie and cheat, so par for the course.

    • bkmn

They always have no problem getting enough signatures on ballot initiatives and things like that…of course, when the names are verified they lose most of them.

  • bkmn

Target should install kiosks to sell shares of their stock to the people that aren’t boycotting. That would push their stock value way up.

  • Chuck in NYC

“Let’s see, I’ll enter my kids’ names with our last name, then I’ll re-enter all the family using their middle names as their last names, then I’ll enter them again using their middle names as their first names, and then I’ll just make up some more names and enter those….”

    Is that how it works?

    • bkmn

Or Bryan A. Fischer, Bryan B. Fischer, Bryan C. Fischer, etc.

    • b

Yea, it’s probably one guy. Target will see an increase in sales.

    • Chucktech

Don’t even need to bother with that kind of scheming. Just enter your name over and over and over again. Apparently their “system” lets you do that.

      • oikos

No protocols just like Reaganbook. Why are cons so technologically challenged?

        • Chucktech

Challenged?? Hell, it”s genius, I tells ya! Pretty soon they’ll have several million signers!

          • oikos

            Ella Vatour has signed.

          • Chucktech

Do it again, Ella! Do it many more times!

        • Cuberly

Case in point on tech fails…I’ll just put these here…..for shits and giggles.

Those are hilarious. The first one is the one most supporters will search for.

          • Cuberly

We should click on them often to drive up their search result numbers…lol…a la..the santorum effect. Ha!

          • Robert C

Conservatives and technology (especially the Internet) make a hysterical combination. They could easily afford to register these domains for a year (it’s dirt cheap). I’m just glad more of the smart and tech-savvy people are liberals. 🙂

          • Cuberly

But it’s such a basic part of doing business now-a-days. I mean, really, how is this even possible to be such a catastrophic fuckup. It’s amazing how out of touch they are.

        • bkmn

Technology requires creativity for innovation and the Reich wingers are short on creativity.

        • olandp

Because protocals, or regulations, are bad.

    • glass

Just enter “I Love Target”, “Transgender Rocks”, “Love Wins”, “AFA Hategroup”, or anything that sends a message to the AFA when they read it.

I want them to let us validate that there are real names and not just a ploy to raise money to line their pockets.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

      Don’t forget Fluffy.

      • vorpal

Indeed. He’s a scaly member of the famiily, too.
        #Koi-cottsMatter

        • Ragnar Lothbrok

You know how I like to pet my goldfish right ? Well, I swear I made one purr ! Yep, It true.

          #FishNeedNoLitterBox

          • vorpal

How do you pick which one you cuddle with at night?
Is it like an LDS rotation type deal?
I’ve heard what you to do schools of fish. Beware the Zika-fry!

          • Ragnar Lothbrok

Oh, I just pick the big one. Always the big one.

          • vorpal

            Wait… I didn’t know you had a fatty fetish?

Ugh. Now we have to go update the long, huge, meaty Ragnar chapter of the gay agenda.

          • Falconlights

Hmmm. #FishNeedNoLitterBox. That is a good argument for having a fish.

  • A million names, yet my local Target was packed when I was there the other day, It’s almost as if those signing don’t shop there anyway….

    • bkmn

      Or don’t exist.

      • Chucktech

Or have been double, triple, or quadruple (or more) counted. I read somewhere yesterday (I think here on JMG) that you could sign their lying hate petition as many times as you want.

        • jimbo65

And I wonder if they’ve checked the names and email of so called petitioners. I’m sure they’ll find Alot of made up dirty names. They’re being trolled but quantity over quality eh?

          • TimCA

As if the AFA would ever allow verification or fact checking in regards to any of their claims.

          • Chucktech

Really. That’d blow their whole caper right out of the water.

“Fictions are their stock in trade.”

Starting with that poor, benighted Jewish carpenter they’ve managed to turn into the justification for all the mean-spiritedness and hate they constantly regurgitate.

          • Tonto

Not shopping at Target is hate? Come on man!

          • rusty57

            No.
The reason they’re not shopping at Target is hate.
            The hate comes from fear.
            The fear comes from ignorance.
And the ignorance could be cured if they weren’t so addicted to it.

Email addresses are a dime a dozen, so to speak. Actually, they’re free. There are plenty of places where you can sign up for free email addresses. And if you happen to have your own domain and/or email server, it’s virtually unlimited the number of email addresses one could have.

          • spin212

Does an “X” count as a signature?

        • Gene

even if the DO all exist, in a nation of almost 320, 000,000 people, 1 million is….charming (and most are probably of the “Me and bubba saved up to go the dollar store to buy some borax and slim Jims” type shoppers anyway)

          • jonfromcalifornia

Exactly. They were Walmart shoppers to begin with and Walmart shoppers they remain.

        • Jeffg166

Someone’s carpal tunnel is really acting up.

        • NancyP

Too much effort. Use random-address-mimicking spam-bot – or better yet, just lie.

      • ETownCanuck

Maybe it was the One Million Moms who signed it? 🙂

        • olandp

          Both of them?

          • Steverino

I think it is actually a $1,000,000 mom.

          • Henri205

            Real Housewives of Dallas?

        • Acronym Jim

That’s one miffed mom and several thousand sock puppets.

      • CM Harris

Or actually still shopping there. Like people who voted against gay marriage but go to one anyway.

      • Gyeo

The rumor is that both trans exclusive radical feminists and men’s rights activists have been encouraged to make anti-trans policies look more popular than it actually is. I wouldn’t be surprise if these 1 million people are just sock puppets of a small group of religious nutjobs, TERFS, and MRAs. Don’t you love it when groups that would otherwise hate each other now come together to hate on a vulnerable group?

        • NancyP

Where are these TERFs? I don’t know any. Maybe Midwestern feminists are too busy fending off their Republican legislators to go nuts over non-problems.

          • Falconlights

It’s Trans Exclusionary Feminist and the ones I know merely want some women’s and lesbian space reserved for women born women.

          • RaygunsGoZap

Using the word “merely” sounds like favorably editorializing discrimination.

          • Falconlights

Did it ever occur to you that lesbians who are bio women need their spaces, too. And BTW, I identify as a transman, even though I cannot transition for medical and financial reason.

          • BostonDotTom

as another trans man, did it ever occur to you that is just transmisogynist bullshit?

          • Falconlights

We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

          • RaygunsGoZap

            So that’s a no?

          • BostonDotTom

I don’t agree to that. Because in my experience TERFs are perfectly willing to let trans men in their lesbian-only spaces. Which tells you just how much respect they have for our identities, brother.

          • Falconlights

I dunno. The ones I know won’t let men, be they cisgender or trans into lesbian space. But then the ones I know are pretty hardcore Amazons.

          • RaygunsGoZap

Those lesbians have those places. They’re called homes.

I’m sure lots of blacks were happy at the back of the bus. That doesn’t translate into a credible argument for segregation.

          • Sounds good but how do we do that without harming people like my 20 year old granddaughter?

    • b

They should shoot for ten million. It won’t make any difference. The difference will be in boosting Target’s brand: high-end, low price, and no red-necks.

    • SoCalVet

I was out blowing money at Target this week. Went and shopped there just to support them, and I told the cashier on the way out.

    • MarkOH

1 million out of a USA population of 319 million – not so much.

      • nokkonwud

So that’s what, 1/3 of one percent of all Americans are boycotting Target?

        • MarkOH

          Uh, Math is hard. 😉

          (divide by…….carry the two …….. subdivide……)

          I’ll get back to you.

    • David Walker

My email comes through xfinity/comcast, so I get to see NBC News. This came in this morning:
      http://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/bathroom-protests-will-likely-leave-target-unscathed-experts-say-n564776

    • RaygunsGoZap

A Million names is about 1/323rd of the current US population. So, not that impressive in real terms.

      • Caffeine99

Not too mention their faux rage will last until they run out of toilet paper or laundry detergent.

    • chris james

Damn, you mean they lie about signing this? And here I was hoping to shop at Target without all the crowds.

  • The Milkman

Signers of such a petition would most likely be Walmart shoppers anyway.

    • Zoey

Walmart has the rural hick places covered. So yeah.

  • given that the right wing is practically made of lies, i’m skeptical. and even if it’s true? target has nothing to fear. maybe 1M assholes signed an internet website ‘petition,’ but that’s about all they will ever do. the last 16 boycotts of target have rather spectacularly failed, and when you get right down to it, Joe Bob and Sister-Wife Sue want those discount spandex pants and bathroom organizers, and will go to Target to get them, just like they always have.

    • Gustav2

“…ThinkProgress successfully “signed” it three different times from the same web browser using the names “I disagree With this,” “I really think this is stupid,” and “This isn’t A real email.” All that it required was using a different email address each time. As the last name suggests, it was also possible to sign the pledge using a gmail.com address that does not even exist. Thus, there’s nothing stopping anyone else from doing the same to inflate the numbers, or even for AFA to do so to generate further buzz”

      http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2016/04/28/3773580/target-boycott-reality/

  • Bless their little hearts.

I can hear the collective yawn coming from Target.

    • bkmn

I swore I hear laughter coming from Target HQ in Mpls….

      • Paulino

Uh, no. Executives don’t find this stuff amusing, particularly when coupled with an otherwise unexplained dip in their stock price.

Is the boycott based on ignorance and bigotry? Yes. But don’t kid yourself Target’s executives aren’t concerned. They have shareholders to answer to.

    • b

I’m sure they want this. A brand that leaves behind Walmart fat asses hanging over too tight clothing.

  • Michael Smith

    “That’s a million families”

I’m guessing you failed math in school. One person does not equal one family.

    • bkmn

      OMM math.

    • All thirty of the one million moms say that one person does equal one family.

      • Queequeg

Conservatives are pretty bad at math.

    • BobSF_94117

Only the man of the house is allowed to sign petitions in REAL American families.

  • Alan43

Target can see the writing on the wall, after what happened to NC. They’re not going to budge no matter how many signatures they get

  • Zoey

Even if they wanted to they’d screw themselves many times worse if they caved to the haters. Let these fuckwits shop at Hobby Lobby and Wallmart then.

    • Scoobym3

Ok so this guy follows your 13 year old daughter into the women’s bathroom and you are just fine with it? Are you out of your mind? Would you call it “Progress”? What’s the problem? He identifies as a woman so it’s all good. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/edb4e26800b741b92737d3ab7696c416be1e68c4ef3fc484597a4544b7b96601.jpg

      • Zoey

        Be gone troll.

        • Scoobym3

Troll? Why? You support a Target’s new policy right? Ok maybe this guy is an extreme example. What if a regular every day looking man followed your 13 year old daughter into the bathroom?. This man truly identifies as a woman but he is coming from his job where he dresses like a normal man. If you have a problem with it, wouldn’t you be transphobic? I’m not trolling. I’m honestly interested in your opinion.

      • rusty57

Scoobym3, do you have any evidence that the individual in the photo you posted actually identifies as a woman, other than your say so?
Or is this nothing more than a bit of agitprop based on your willingness to discard the truth and use fear to avoid a rational discussion of the issue?

        • Scoobym3

Ok maybe this guy is an extreme example. Let’s just take an regular ordinary looking guy. He identifies as a woman but he’s not dressed as a woman. He follows your 13 year old daughter into the bathroom. Would you be just fine with that?

  • Cuberly

Signing a petition, to initiate discrimination? Bring it back I guess?

Guess the not so brietbarters were never told how progress works.

  • crewman

I could write a bot to populate that list with names in 10 minutes. It’s not a very meaningful list. It also doesn’t even attempt to assess that these people are actually routine Target shoppers.

    • Chucktech

Apparently it also doesn’t attempt to keep people from signing more than once.

      • lymis

Yeah, but they’d justify that by saying that signing it a couple of hundred times is simply reflecting all the people who WOULD sign it if they knew about it, but didn’t.

        • Chucktech

A.k.a. a bald faced christian lie. And how done to death is that??

    • oikos

      Please do!

  • Gerry Fisher

“It took a lot of effort for us to ‘manufacture’ these 1 million names!”

    • Sk3ptic

      Findagrave.com was particularly helpful.

  • Gene

there sales are solid, and this will be a gnat in the eye at worst to them…and, in progressive (usually wealthier) neighborhoods, Target really SHOULD be sending this message to the AFA; “THANK YOU FOR THE FREE ADVERTISING!”. An announcement of intent to do the right thing might not filter to their target market for some time…unless the AFA, in a pathetic moneybeg, disperses the message for FOR them

  • chasmader

I have to buy a replacement charger cord and I was planning to hit Best Buy at lunchtime, but now I’m going to go out of my way to buy it at Target.

    • Queequeg

I don’t need anything at the moment, but will either shop at or order from Target soon. They also take Apple Pay, which is a nice perk.

  • Rusty Redfield

Wait until AFA comes up with a plan that actually requires these mouth-breathers to physically DO something. Then the silence will be deafening.

  • Queequeg

Is there any petition or Change.org movement to let Target know that we support them?

  • Jmdintpa

like the redneck said… ” just waddle yo ass on over to walmarts, thats where all the duck dynasty shit is anyways” . fuck off boycotters. i wish they would boycott more things so i have less chance of having to deal with these assholes out in public.

    • Nic Peterson

Like airport bathrooms, public accommodations and the like. That seems to be a likely place to be harassed by a true conservative.

    • lymis

While Wal-Mart is by no means perfect, it’s hardly the anti-gay bastion that these people would want folks to believe. If someone is a diehard who intends to boycott any company that’s not staunchly anti-gay, Wal-Mart is off their list, too.

Of course, you can still make a case that Wal-Mart is staunchly anti-human, just doing so more or less equally, and I wouldn’t argue.

      • ColdCountry

“Of course, you can still make a case that Wal-Mart is staunchly
anti-human, just doing so more or less equally, and I wouldn’t argue.”

And now I have coffee all over my keyboard….

      • peacfulseas inWA

” Wal-Mart is off their list, too.” I know of 2 trans people who worked at the local wal mart while transitioning and one at the Target store. I believe wal mart has a similar policy as Target. So yeah good luck finding a major retailer who doesn’t.

        • I know of four trans people who work/worked at Walmart either during or after transitioning…in Central Florida of all places.

  • Paula

How will the haters respond when absolutely zero attacks happen in their bathrooms? The only incidents will be things they set up.

    • ColdCountry

      But… but… it could happen!!

      • TexasBoy

The earth could also suddenly break out of orbit and fling into the sun. But they don’t want you to know that one is as likely as the other.

        • Rebecca Gardner

LOL! The Earth should be so lucky. With the human virus covering her I’m sure she thinks of flinging herself into the sun daily.

          • Paula

There is a solution for that problem.

        • ColdCountry

Nooooooo, don’t tell me that! I may have to stay in bed all day. I hope the ceiling doesn’t fall….

        • Frostbite

          One can hope!

      • Joe in PA

        a veritable slippery-slope I’d say! /s

    • bkmn

The attacks will come from a right wing legislator who just barges into a women’s restroom and knocks a woman down.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

That is their next move isn’t it. Even when it’s proved to be a setup, the scary meme will be out there just like that dammed baby parts tape.

Look out for my new single. 1,000,000 bigots at the 99 cent.

  • Michael Rush

A million sounds like a lot , but US population is 318.9 million (2014)
They haven’t factored in the people who are more
likely to shop at a place ( or do business with a state ) that doesn’t have stupid policies .

    • Chucktech

Our Dear LORD can, of course. You just have to trust Him, He knows…

Even of large, well capitalized and highly traded blue chip stocks, prices will trend up and down over time. These types of small swings are not uncustomary. During the last 3 months Target’s common share price has trended between the high 60s and low 80s. Price fluctuations, even of several percentage points, during a day’s trading is nothing to get overly concerned about.

    • Out of curiosity, I looked at the recent stock prices of a few other large retail stores (Wal-Mart, Costco, etc.) and they’re so also down slightly. So, yeah.

      • TimCA

Exactly. It could just be reflective of price swings affecting the entire sector and less to do with this particular retailer.

      • Gustav2

Gee, since the US and the World economy has not grown much (under 1%) in the last few quarters, why would retail stocks be down a bit?

      • stuckinthewoods

Consumer spending has been weak, sparking fears that the second quarter growth could also be disappointing. First quarter growth was weaker than expected.

  • lymis

One thing I’ve long noticed about right-wing boycotts is how often they happily boycott things that they wouldn’t have supported in the first place.

I wonder what the list would look like if there were a way to filter it by whether or not the person who signed it has shopped at Target in the last six months, or by whether there is even a Target within reasonable shopping range of their home.

And of course, time and time again, it’s been proven that a lot of the right-wing people who “boycott” things go ahead and keep using them, secure in the knowledge that simply expressing disapproval is enough of an inconvenience to prove that they’re still “good” people. So again, it would be interesting to see how many people who actually WERE Target shoppers actually stop shopping there.

Look at the calls to boycott Microsoft, Apple, and Linux, and the sheer lack of a reduction in a right-wing internet presence. These people wouldn’t be able to SEE, much less SIGN, an online petition if they really meant what they say about refusing to patronize a company that supports LGBT rights. And that’s not even going into the Satanic nature of the majority of internet providers. Don’t get me started on Comcast.

  • oikos

“We want to make it very clear that the AFA does not believe the transgender community poses this danger to the wider public. Rather, this misguided and reckless policy provides a possible gateway for predators who are out there.”

But the side effect of punishing those icky transgenders is just a happy circumstance for us.

    Fixed it.

  • ColdCountry

Having narrow hips for a woman, I have worn men’s jeans since high school. I have always used the changing rooms in the men’s department of the store I’m in, and no one has ever blinked. You go in, you shut the door, what is the issue? If there are men in the other cubicles, or in the cubicles of the women’s department, so what? These people need to get over themselves.

    • Christopher Smith

Exact same thing as women’s bathrooms in public. Just who the hell *wants to* open stall doors to peep at others’ private parts, anyway?

Off to Target.com for an online order (and a THANK YOU)

  • Due to this policy, the Target on Clearview and Vets is now an abandoned shell. Hell, even the grass around the store is withered and dead. Interstate 10 which runs right behind the store has fallen into the earth. In fact, the sun didn’t even come out today. Gas prices are nearing $7/gallon. It is just flat out mayhem.

Time to buy some target stock

  • TimCA

It appears that the AFA has launched resoundingly unsuccessful boycotts before, specifically against large corporations such as Ford and Walmart.

    From Right Wing Watch:

“The American Family Association (AFA) is alerting its members to companies who are supportive of GLBT employees and is asking “Christian consumers…to think twice before they patronize companies that support the homosexual agenda.” AFA lists major corporations that have non-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation or that offer domestic-partner benefits for same-sex couples, including Eastman Kodak, Citigroup, PepsiCo., American Airlines, Allstate Insurance, and the Coca-Cola Company. “One company losing five to ten percent of its sales will send a clear message to every company in America,” offers Don Wildmon. AFA attacked Kraft Foods (owner of brand names Post, Oscar Meyer, and Maxwell House, among others) for the company’s support of the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago.”

“Wal-Mart and its affiliate Sam’s Club became an AFA boycott target because of the retailer’s support for the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.”

“The American Family Association has called for a national boycott of the Ford Motor Company over the manufacturer’s sponsorship of gay pride events and continued advertising in gay publications. AFA claims its boycott has played a major part in Ford’s drop in sales.”

Target’s stock may have dropped between April 19 and April 28 but so did the broader market (S&P 500 close 4/19 at 2100 vs. 2075 yesterday, continuing downward; March’s consumer spending numbers were disappointing, Bank of Japan, Apple, etc.) Next they’ll claim their boycott is why gold is up today.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

And Target (TGT ticker) is still up 10% Year-to-Date, despite the broader market’s recent drop.

  • HZ81

Anyone believe for a second the majority of those names are real? Me neither.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Right and I have a million dollars in my possession. It’s all fake, but it’s there by golly.

  • Paula

“Amid the turmoil, the company’s stock edged down from $83.98 per share on April 19 to roughly $81.33 in April 28. That’s a loss of $2.65 per share, which chops the company’s stock market value by $1.5 billion, down to $48.8 billion.”

The haters don’t get it. I saw a Sam Walton interview on TV a long time ago. It was about a big drop in Walmart stock, He said ‘So what? I lost a billion dollars on paper that only existed on paper. Nothing has changed today.”
    This could change tomorrow.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

So true, they have no clue as to how it all works. Add to that that the entire market, the Dow and NASDAQ dipped. It’s a cycle, but don’t tell them that, ’cause facts is fer book learnin’ people, not ‘murkans! 🙂

Did they just copy the names out of the Book of Numbers?

  • canoebum

I remember back in the 1980s the gay community boycotted Target for their discriminatory employment policies. What a turnaround for this company! Target survived the bad word of mouth back then, they’ll survive this too. I expect the vast majority of their customers are totally unaware of this little temper tantrum, and likely don’t give a hoot away.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Pretty clear there’s a lot of education that needs to be done on this issue. So disappointed that Cailin is such a loser.

  • Tigernan Quinn

Okay but….so what? What if it was ten million? It really doesn’t matter unless it hurts Target’s bottom line. And it hasn’t.

  • D. J.

  • aar9n

So, serious question here. How could we mobilize and create a “target appreciation day”?

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

I just bought Target stock. AFA thank you for temporarily depressing the stock price.

I’m sure all the seniors and pension funds that invest in Target will appreciate that you have hurt their investment.

How much money will you make selling your one million names to other right wing groups and political candidates? Promoting hate is very lucrative.

  • MBear

Here’s the thing. These people will NEVER shop at Target now. They’ll see Target as the “enemy” no matter if Target changes this policy or not.

    So stay strong Target.

  • DesertSun59

I’m headed to Target in about an hour. I can assure all of you that it will be packed as usual.

  • penpal

Oh boo hoo. A bunch of faithful Wal-Mart shoppers who have never stepped foot in a Target anyway have put their names on a list. I’m sure Target is terrified of them.

  • Dana Stinson

Let me get something straight here…

So, if 1 million people ‘pledged’ to boycott Target..if I do my math that makes it 1/3 of 1 percent. I prefer to work in decimals so that would equate to .03% Hmmm.

So, if Republicans and the religious right feel that they shouldn’t change their lives or their bigoted and hateful speech just because it would hurt a scant .03% of the population….

Why should Target care because .03% of the population are hateful asshats and demand that everyone do/think/live exactly as they demand?

  • billbear1961

And in a few days it will be 2 million–next week TEN!!!!

    Bullshit.

    Right-wingers are LIARS.

I never believe ANYTHING they say until I have PROOF from sources I TRUST.

IF business falls off at their stores, Target may blink.

    Otherwise, they won’t.

  • billbear1961

How long before they manufacture OTHER petitions with MILLIONS of names??

In a way, it surprises me it has taken them THIS long to do something like this.

Again, the only thing that will impress a company will be if their sales start to noticeably drop off.

The fascists can’t boycott MOST of the businesses in the country indefinitely.

Before long, they’d need a list of the few places where they CAN shop!

  • Jerry Hinnant

YEAH! The shopping experience should be so much more pleasant at Target now that all the bigoted right wing assholes won’t be there any more. It will be like “HEAVEN” on Earth! They will all be over in Hell shopping at WalMart

  • MB

So all of these whining fuckweasels drive to Target just to use the bathrooms ? The last 6 times I have been in Target I have never needed to use or enter the bathrooms. Am I missing out on something ??

  • bob

The Target statement is being misinterpreted by these nutcases ! A lot of places around here only have single person unisex rest rooms. All this says to me is that we have a million ignorant imbeciles who will sign anything.

  • Glen

I just called Walmart and spoke with them about this. They are aware of the controversy surrounding Target’s stated transgender bathroom policy. I let the representative know that a right-wing hate mongering group was calling on people to boycott Target and that they ought not take advantage of that, but instead it would reflect well upon Walmart to come to the defense of Target and to issue a similar statement regarding the transgender use of their bathrooms.

The service representative was quite pleasant and told me that they are listening and would get my views in front of those who consider such decisions.

If you would like to do the same you can call Walmart’s customer service number at 1-800-925-6278 Option #2, Option #2, Option #1

Let’s ensure that the right-wing hate mongers have NO big-box retailers to shop at.

  • MonochromeMouse

didn’t the Starbucks boycott have similarly high numbers, and then somehow Starbucks’ sales reached record highs

Come on kids. When I signed this yesterday afternoon I was the fourth, it now stands at only 12. I hope this isn’t representative of how many will be voting in the general elections. Also, Target.com has free shipping on a $25 order. It was easy for me to put together a nice order of things I buy all the time and help offset lost sales because of this boycott. Dog soap and supplies, coffee, hand soap and even tarter sauce were just a few of the things I used to make up an order, Prices are the same or lower than I would spend at the local grocery store and I was even able to pay with Paypal and support another ally.

  • Herald

AFA’s statement on the transgender community does nothing to hide their bigotry. Its swarminess actually makes them more sickening.

  • MikeBx2

There are well over 6 million people in this country who voted for Cruz in their states primary. Sounds to me like these alleged 1 million signatures fall way short of the bigot possibility.

  • dcurlee

I’m still a Target shopper and as long as they treat everyone equally I will always be a customer. I’m betting a huge amount that have signed are still shopping there or Breibart is adding the names of deceased people, which wouldn’t surprise me at all

    • Falconlights

Even with this ridiculous law, if they want to molest a child, they will find a way. All this law does is criminalize transpeople’s bathroom use.

      • Elevator_Insider

I agree but let’s not make it any easier.

        • Falconlights

New law, no law. Same result. Why criminalize transpeople for a few degenerates?

          • Elevator_Insider

I do not believe there should be a law against transgendered’s people using a bathroom. A believe there should be a law against perverted male pigs putting on a wig and entering a women’s bathroom.

          • Falconlights

Then make laws applying to THAT particular group. This law criminalizes transgender people’s bathroom use. The bigots are not really protecting anyone.

          • Mikey

            there already is.

          • Falconlights

          • Elevator_Insider

Then leave it alone. Target is advertising “Perverts Come Here”. A true transgendered should blend in the restroom of their choice. Let’s not welcome the bearded pervert in the women’s restroom.
