Tony Perkins: Obama’s “Thuggish Sore Losers” Are Trying To Blackmail North Carolina Over Its Hate Law

Via press release from Tony Perkins:

Using federal funds as a club, the Obama administration has perfected a play that’s been quite effective at “persuading” local school boards and other governors to reconsider their position on radical LGBT policies. We watched the same cat-and-mouse game play out in Texas, when Health and Human Services tried to zero out the state’s Medicaid money after it stripped funds from Planned Parenthood. Now, Washington’s sore losers are at it again, warning that every federal department from Transportation to Housing will put the squeeze on North Carolina for doing the citizens’ will. It would be an unprecedented move — even for this administration — to punish an entire state for rejecting a gender policy that the American College of Pediatricians calls “child abuse.”

Yet still, the Department of Education insists that the agency is already trying “to determine any potential impact on the state’s federal education funding.” “We will not hesitate to act if students’ civil rights are being violated,” a spokesman insisted. At least two other departments are playing the same “conform-or-else” hardball, which would put tens of billions of North Carolina’s dollars on the line. Lt. Governor Dan Forest (R) was stunned that the administration would stoop to these thuggish tactics. “It would be wrong — even illegal — to single out North Carolina for unfavorable treatment,” he argued. “I’m confident that we will continue to receive this federal money despite the threats from a few in Washington, D.C.”

Even experts think the government’s threat is a stretch. For starters, the administration doesn’t have the statutory authority to blackmail states. (Not that the law has ever factored much into this president’s decision making.) “Disregarding the facts,” Governor McCrory fired back, “other politicians — from the White House to mayors to state capitals and city council members and even our attorney general — have initiated and promoted conflict to advance their political agenda and tear down our state, even if it means defying the Constitution and their oath of office.”

Interestingly enough, Duke University’s Jane Wettach thinks the threat — like so many of the Left’s — is an empty one. “I think the federal government would be loath to do it and would give North Carolina every possibility, every chance to change their position, to change the law, to negotiate, to make some exceptions.” Based on the rash of assaults and evidence about how these policies are being gamed, the last thing North Carolina should do is reconsider. Just because liberals are operating outside reality on anatomy, human nature, and even public safety doesn’t mean the rest of the country should.

FACT CHECK: The American College of Pediatricians is an SPLC-designated hate group of 300 or so anti-LGBT crackpots. The actual official organization for the profession is the very pro-LGBT 60,000-member American Academy of Pediatrics.

Way to pack in racism with homophobia. Tony PerKKKins is putrid sack of christofascist hate.

He is right. NC should not be singled out. Any state who passes this should have all Federal funds held. Well, not held, as that implies that the money would come at some point. The money should be given to other states and the hater states should be told they lost it for that year.

I remind people that the right had and has no issues holding back Federal dollars when MADD pushed their agenda and forced states to raise their drinking age from 18 to 21, and lost a ton in sales in many states. While I personally believe if you are 18, you should be able to drink legally, and am at peace with an out of high school box on the license, I also understand reasonable people can disagree. My point is the right will use the withholding of anything for their agenda, and has proven they will do anything to win their agenda…anything.

      Tony doesn’t deserve any.

“Peter, always a pleasure to see you! Thanks for coming on NEW DAY to make your case.” Eviscerated? Hardly.

  • Steve

“Thuggish Sore Losers” Tony? The sad attempt to push your clearly unconstitutional law to punish people that don’t conform to your “standards” sounds like a bunch of crybaby sore losers to me. The North Carolina legislature is acting in a thuggish manner. Unfortunately the people of NC will be paying for your folly.

    • Michael McKeon

I was going to type this exact thing.

  • Steverino

I remember the days when universities with LGBT non-discrimination policies were threatened with withdrawal of federal funding if they tried to oust ROTC programs from their campuses, due to the then military ban on openly LGBT servicemembers being contrary to campus non-discrimation policies.

    My, how things have changed.

  • Yixing’s Fluffer

No matter how much they try, Perkins et al. can’t help but mix their racism and misogyny into their trans/homophobia. It’s almost kind of pathetic.

“Now, Washington’s sore losers are at it again, warning that every federal department from Transportation to Housing will put the squeeze on North Carolina for doing the citizens’ will.”

It wasn’t the citizens’ will, it was solely the legislature forcing this through. In fact, this was passed in direct opposition to the will of the citizens of Charlotte. Lying makes baby Jebus cry, Tony.

Just because liberals are operating outside reality on anatomy, human nature, and even public safety doesn’t mean the rest of the country should.

Government sponsored Bigotry founded on a Book of Lies harms everyone. Bigots like Tony are being increasingly being asked to provide evidence of how open homosexuality or transgender visibility in their state actually harms them. Their “reality” is so messed up that instead of getting sympathy, they are only proving to the world that they cant peacefully coexist with anyone who doesn’t share their entire belief system.

What makes him any kind of expert on anatomy, human nature, or public safety? Isn’t he the one who believes in virgin birth, the living dead, abstinence, and compulsory barebacking?

  • John Bickford

“Thuggish sore losers”? Project much? That’s an apt description of the NC legislature and governor, ramming through an anti-LGBT law because they lost the debate in Charlotte and in front of SCOTUS.

Is irony the word I’m looking for? All the anti-LGBT laws popping up are basically the work of sore losers and their reaction to marriage equality.

“It would be an unprecedented move — even for this administration — to punish an entire state for rejecting a gender policy that the American College of Pediatricians calls “child abuse.”

Who are these people, The American College of Pediatricians?

“The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a socially conservative association of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States. The College was founded in 2002 by a group of pediatricians including Joseph Zanga, a past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP — membership 60,000), as a protest against the AAP’s support for adoption by gay couples. The group’s membership has been estimated at between 60 and 200 members.

The organization’s view on parenting is at odds with the position of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which holds that sexual orientation has no correlation with the ability to be a good parent and to raise healthy and well-adjusted children. The American College of Pediatricians has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “hate group” with “a history of propagating damaging falsehoods about LGBT people”

I really don’t know how perkins and his asshole buddies can make statements like that without the least little bit of shame.

    • David Walker

It’s how they make a living. Also, wouldn’t the “College” have to be a non-profit? If so, wouldn’t they be required to state the membership total? And you would think the “pediatricians” would be proud to state their affiliation to such a group.

    • olandp

As I recall, there are even fewer actual pediatricians in the “College”. Many of the members are not involved with health care at all, like Tonette.

    • JustSayin’

Very simple. Their followers will neither check out the claimed source, disagree with the claim, or realize that the American Academy of Pediatrics is the actual authority. The name of the hate group was carefully chosen to sow that confusion.

  • Enrico Webers

    You started the thugging, PerKKKins.

  • olandp

Thank God for Peter Sprigg, without him to tell us who and what we are, we might be living happy fulfilled lives.

  • M Jackson

I don’t read policy statements from hate group leaders.

  • Ninja0980

The sore losers would be the folks who simply can’t accept that a group they’ve been waging war against has finally gained equality.

  • MrSkippy

    Yeah!

How dare those people who give us shitbucket tons of money make demands on how we use it! Just give us the money. It’s none of your business if we use it to do blow off the butts of 12 year old hookers man!

It’s your money that you should give to us so really it’s OUR money so how dare you tell us what we have to do to get it?!

  • BobSF_94117

I really wish the administration hadn’t said a thing about withholding funds.

    • JustSayin’

Title 1, Title 7, and Title 9, all in some way demand education and access be equal and that disadvantaged groups be protected. Disadvantaging a Trans student would violate that requirement. The Federal Government has an obligation to prevent that from happening and their best and only weapon is funding. They most certainky should prepare for sanctions and they most certainly need to make those plans known.

      • BobSF_94117

Yes, but it’s only been a week and nothing obligated them to pipe up and confirm the propaganda of our enemies.

        • So how long do you feel would be appropriate for the feds to wait? Six weeks? Six months? Six years? These hater states must feel the pain of their hate and bigotry quickly to make them remove this terrible law from their books.

          • BobSF_94117

It seems to me that the administration should, at first, focus on how outrageously unconstitutional the NC law is. The law’s real vulnerability is in how it treats gay people, not how it treats trans people. Then, if that doesn’t work, start talking about Title IX, so maybe three weeks???

  • Raising_Rlyeh

Interesting parallel here. My state had the lowest legal drinking age during the 70’s and Wisconsin was threatened with losing federal highway tax money if we didn’t increase it to 21. So the state increased the drinking age. Some how I have a feeling tonyette doesn’t have a problem with the federal government threatening funds when it’s something he disagrees with.

  • Once again:
    – Trans bathroom access = the wedge issue
    – Anti-LGBT civil rights = the public face of the law (which is bad enough, but…)
    – Banning all state-level civil lawsuits for discrimination of any kind, even for non-LGBT people = the real purpose of this law
    – Banning localities from raising the minimum wage beyond the already crappy federal rate = bonus for the wingnuts and corporatists

  • James

Every culture in history has always separated biological males and females for bathing, dressing and excreting? That’s a demonstrably false claim, even in 2016.

    • It’s the same thing as when they claim marriage has always been between one man and one woman, ALWAYS, when their own book clearly shows it was not the case.

  • Mike in NC

Oh, go stick a pine cone up your butt, Miss Tonette!

  • JCF

    Nine-Wah!-Waahh!!

Remember, when Tony and republicans use the word “thug” they are really saying the N-word.
