Bobby Jindal Blames Father Of Oregon Shooter

According to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, the real culprit in the Oregon massacre is the shooter’s father for being an anti-gun advocate who was never in his son’s life. Seriously. Apparently single mothers bear zero responsibility in the outcome of their children. Talking Points Memo reports:

“This killer’s father is now lecturing us on the need for gun control and he says he has no idea how or where his son got the guns,” Jindal wrote. “Of course he doesn’t know. You know why he doesn’t know? Because he is not, and has never been in his son’s life. He’s a complete failure as a father, he should be embarrassed to even show his face in public. He’s the problem here.” The father, Ian Mercer, has told the media he believes the shooting wouldn’t have happened if gun control laws had prevented his son from accessing the 13 weapons linked to him during the investigation into the shooting, which left 10 dead including Harper Mercer. It’s been reported that Harper-Mercer’s mother Laurel Harper had bragged prior to the shooting about the stockpile of firearms she had been collecting, and that she and her son were frequent visitors of the local gun range. According to the New York Times, Laurel Harper and Ian Mercer had divorced about a decade ago, and Ian had not seen his son in the two years since Chris Harper-Mercer moved to Oregon with his mother.

Jindal says the father owes America an apology: “He brags that he has never held a gun in his life and that he had no idea that his son had any guns. Why didn’t he know? Because he failed to raise his son. He should be ashamed of himself, and he owes us all an apology. Case Closed.”

  • Reasonoverhate

    What a douchebag!

  • rabbit_ears

If Jindal wants to point fingers at fathers he needs to start with his own, that is if he hasn’t been disowned from shame.

    • sandy

      yaaaas rabbit_ears, hammer down!!!

Ass wipes are getting even more ass wippier.

    • rabbit_ears

There must be a factory churning these out somewhere with the mistaken notion that people want them even ass-wipier. Its time for a bit of sabotage.

      • Lumpy Gaga

I cleaned out a desk drawer today and tossed a package of dried up ass-wipes.

      • hudson11

time to re-tool the factory and put out a new model.

        • JW Swift

I dunno. Trump’s poll numbers seem to indicate that a significant portion of the public wants extremely ass-wipey models, especially those who identify as Rethuglicans. I’m thinking the problem lies not with the supply-side, but the demand-side of things.

  • Niles

You know, I’m really going to have to call out our national news media for coddling these sick individuals and reporting on them like they were normal human beings.

    • sandy

yes, call them and let them know!

    • Lumpy Gaga

It’s just cruel, is what it is.

      • OrliJoe in Fla

He’s a fucking asshole in the first degree. He should be held liable for his words, seriously. That family should sue the Jeebus out of him!

        • Strepsi

I would, for slander and defamation.
          He’s a piece of shit.

        • Steve Teeter

I can’t believe he would say this. He’s governor of my state, unfortunately, but I certainly don’t think of him as my governor.

          • William

I’ll let you have Greg Abbott. Nothing is needed in return.

          • TampaDink

To sweeten the deal, I’m more than happy to throw in pRick Scott.

        • Cylux

Why though? The killer WAS a product of his upbringing, there’s no escaping that. Who else is responsible for raising a disturbed young man if not his parents?

At this stage it’s known that statistically, a child in a single-parent household is far more likely to experience violence, double the chances of experiencing sexual abuse, commit suicide, continue a cycle of poverty, become drug dependent, become socially withdrawn, commit a crime or perform below his peers in education. This is what’s euphemistically referred to as ‘the challenge of single parenthood’, i.e. that if you’re a single parent and raise a well-adjusted adult, then you’ve done extraordinarily well, and deserve big props for achieving against the stacked odds.

Had the father been in his son’s life, perhaps things would have been different, and his son would have grown up more well-adjusted than being a frequenter of /r9k/ and undertaking a Beta uprising where he explicitly wanted to kill Christians.

          • leo77

Yes and he had two parents.

A mother who is apparently a gun stockpiling paranoid who Jindal lets off the hook completely in his self-serving diatribe.

Bobby heaps scorn and responsibility on the non-gun owning father and none on the mother. This was nothing, but another crass attempt by Jindal, at the father’s expense, to burnish his image with his dirt dumb, gun loving constituency. This man is really one of the most vile opportunists in public life today.

          • Prixator

“This man is really one of the most vile opportunists in public life today.”

I dunno. He has a LOT of competition.

He may have won this round – but just wait, another one will appear shortly with even more vile opportunism.

There is no doubt about it!

Maybe we should blame his father for raising a gutless child. Piyush father should apologize to America.

          • Cattleya1

I think taxidermy could be a good career move for Piyush. Once he gets himself stuffed, they could airbrush him several shades lighter… And he wouldn’t be one whit dumber or meaner than he is now.

“these sick individuals”… You mean GOP presidential candidates?

    • CJAS

Agreed. They says things that are counterfactual and just plain ugly and our commercial media laps it up. Jindal rejects his parents’ religion and the name they gave him, how many conclusions should we draw from that?

    • Ron Robertson

That’s the REAL issue, they get to blather any kind of insanity, and the media reports it like there’s no consequence to insanity in leaders.

    Anti-gay or anti-gun?

    • ColdCountry

I was wondering about that, too.

      Anti-GUN. My typo. Apologies.

  • Michael Smith

“Bobby” Jindal should be embarrassed to show his face in public. Unfortunately that would require a conscience.

    • Todd20036

Actually, he is embarrassed. Why do you think his portrait makes him look white?

      • Robincho

Because Piyush absolutely despises what he is…

        • Steve Teeter

He should. Louisiana had an 800 million surplus when he came into office. The state is now broke, and it’s all on him. I don’t know why any of the guys running to succeed him would want to inherit such a shitstorm of deficit. (Except for Vitter. He’s just a powerhungry idiot.) Why anyone should want to see Jindal do to the USA what he did to Louisiana baffles me.

If he ever actually makes it into the main debates they’ll eat him for breakfast.

The election is less than 2 weeks away and past the date when the Conservatives can appoint a new candidate. All parties have zero tolerance for homophobic comments because intolerance has been shown to lose entire elections. Unfortunately, Harper is running a campaign that is anti-Muslim and anti-Arab; I hope voters come to their senses and punish him and his racist candidates.

As a Canadian Press story, it’ll likely appear in ever small town newspaper in the country tomorrow. Mr. Grewal, who is the publisher of the Punjabi Post newspaper, may have thought he was talking to potential supporters in their native Punjabi but got a rapid lesson on how brutal and unforgiving Canadian politics can be.

  • Piyush has a sadz b/c the Margin of Error is beating him. this won’t help with that, but then again, you already knew… he’s stupid.

  • Franciscan

This swamp-dweller is the one who owes us an apology, as do all the absolutist supporters of the gun industry.

  • Indian Steve Carrell needs to remember that half the constituents in his state who are as pro gun as he is would probably shoot him on sight thinking he was a terrorist muslim if given the chance.

    • TampaDink

We can’t expect them to recognize him based on his official portrait.

  • Robert Adams

When it comes to expertise on family relationships and mental illness, Bobby Jindal is Governor of Louisiana.

  • daronlady620

“Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
No doubt left in MY mind.

  • Chayste in LA

Okay, but FUCK this guy. Seriously! How do you weaken an already asinine non-argument? Make it Ad Hominem BY-FUCKING-PROXY!! What a colossal jackass!

  • Michael

Can we blame Piyush Jindal’s father for saddling us with Piyush?

  • JCF

As the mother was, admittedly, mentally ill herself, I’m going to skip blaming either of the parents, and just focus my WRATH on the NRA and the politicians, like Jindal, it BUYS. >:-O

  • Max_1

Bobby can’t explain how the Oregon shooter was a good guy with a gun…
… Until he wasn’t. So he blames the kid’s father.

Like there’s a corollary there somewhere for Bobby…

    • TampaDink

The corollary: Piyush rejects his given name & converted from Hindu to R.C., he’s never going to regain his daddy’s love or respect. But he could land a cushy job in a call center back in his native land.

      • Ore Carmi

Actually, there are millions of people in India who are Catholics. Do you know for certain that Jindal wasn’t born into a Catholic family?

        • TampaDink

For certain, no. Based on what I have read, he was raised Hindu….in his “native” Louisiana. I recall that he converted as an adult.

          • Ore Carmi

            Thanks for the info!

        • bcarter3

“Jindal’s interest in Christianity was formed in high school through his friends, and his religious faith grew stronger at College Hill. He began attending Roman Catholic Church, and in the fall of 1989 he was baptized[18] in Providence. Jindal wrote several articles about his spiritual journey that were published in the New Oxford Review.[19]”

            Thanks!

  • CaliforniaDude

Jindal is the biggest boil, on the biggest zit, on Mike Huckabee’s homophobic right butt cheek! Gross GOP jerks! These creeps are so vile!

  • TreGibbs

    Sickening.

  • D. J.

Piyush and his family have had lives of privilege for generations.

  • Ore Carmi

Jindal is an asshole. That’s right–blame a grieving father who kept on good terms with his ex-wife and son and didn’t know that his ex-wife had become a gun-nut.

  • Jan Wesselius

Jindal is 100% correct. A child needs a mother and a father. In order t save the child from a family where there is not a mother and a father, I propose that all children should be removed from single parent households and put in foster homes until the can be adopted by gun toting families.

  • Mark McGovern

What a vile creature that man is.

  • e jerry powell

Wait, Bobby Jindal still exists? That’s the real news here. He’s not even polling over 4% in Louisiana.

  • Sam_Handwich

Your father named you Piyush and raised you a Hindu.

    How’s that working out?

    #failure

  • JVB

    Asshat.

  • TexasBoy

Why not blame the “Heavenly Father?” After all, He’s supposed to be all-knowing, all-loving and omnipotent. So he knew it was coming way before the shooter was even born, right? And he did NOTHING to prevent it. It must be God’s Will that those people died. Praise Jesus!

  • marigrace

Although parents can influence their children, there are times adult children make their own choices, no matter what they were taught. You can take children from the same home, same parents, same environment and one child may turn out to be a wonderful upstanding person and the next may be a criminal.

That being said, the father needs to be silent, at this stage in this tragedy.

  • DesertSun59

Jindal is officially a gun zealot who has absolutely no business running for president of the US. It was absolutely the mother who has a majority fault in this issue and we all know this.

Oh, and his name is Piyush. I use the name on his BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

  • bcarter3

Just when you think there’s no way that any of the Republican contenders could be any more vile, one of them vomits a speech like this.

  • zoli

bobby, get back in the fish tank.

  • CaliforniaDude

These bigots are vile! They are as hateful as the KKK.
