ISRAEL: Jerusalem Pride Killer Admitted To Psychiatric Ward

Israel National News reports:

Gay Pride parade stabber Yishai Shlissel has been admitted to a psychiatric ward in order to assess whether he is fit to stand trial, Channel 10 reported Monday. Later that day, Channel 10 reported that Shlissel had, in fact, experienced a psychotic episode in 2009 and undergone extensive treatment in a special facility, and was being forced to take medication since. It is unclear whether this was ever mentioned to investigators. Even before the parade, Shlissel was labelled by intelligence as a “danger to the event.” However, he was never summoned to report to police before or during the march and was never questioned before the fact regarding his intentions.

Some local observers believe that Shlissel will never stand trial.

  • Todd20036

This is pretty big. He’s considered by some to be religious and righteous as a result. Maybe he should stand trial, maybe not. But either way, he should never be allowed in polite society again

    • Lumpy Gaga

      Whaddaya got against rude society?

      • Steve Teeter

Nothing. Rude society would stone Schlissel in the public square, as Rickster said.

    • Rickster Rickster

I’m pretty sure he should be stoned in the public square. if he wants to be hard core biblical then I say give it to him.

  • bkmn

It can be a very fine line between religious and crazy. Unfortunately too many people cross that line.

    • noni

      There’s a line?

      • Mark

not only is it invisible – but it changes shape
        and moves, too!

  • oikos

“Shlissel had, in fact, experienced a psychotic episode in 2009.”

I’m guessing he’s been having an ongoing one all of his life.

    • noni

      Same as Rev. Pat Robertson.

  • David L. Caster

Religious fundamentalism, in all its forms, is often indistinguishable from mental illness. Yishai Shlissel is a hero to some in Israel whether or not those that consider him one are willing to admit it.

    • MattM

Which is why the Israeli government needs to stop subsidizing these groups. Make them work real jobs (studying the Torah all day is not a real job). Make them contribute to/interact with the rest of society.

      • crewman

Yes! That’s the best comment I’ve seen on this topic They should also be encouraged to socialize outside of their cult. Having so much free time and being surrounded by other crazy people is going to multiply the crazy. Fundamentalism across the globe is out of control and dangerous.

        • MattM

Exactly right. Fundamentalism is a treatable ailment that can only turn into a disease if left unchecked. Faith and fundamentalism can (hopefully) be two separate things.

    • Tom Tallis

      It’s indistinguishable because it’s co-terminus.

  • JT

So this guy was supposed to take medications to prevent psychosis and he had already committed a violent act before. How could he possibly have been released from prison without supervision?

    • John P.

He shouldn’t have been let out.

      • David L. Caster

Perhaps he should have been placed in an institution for the criminally insane instead of just a plain penitentiary. He might still have been let out, but he would have perhaps been better watched.

  • tristram

Are they also going round up and analyze the people who put up posters praising him and urging others to act as he did?

    • noni

      You mean Tony Perkins?

  • MattM

So you’re telling me that he was red flagged before release, and specifically labeled a threat to Jerusalem Pride, and yet he was still let out of jail with no follow up?!

I know Reagan shut down our mental hospitals. But what the fuck is there excuse for this unconscionable lapse in judgement by everyone involved with his prior incarceration and subsequent release? Honestly, every single level of authority in this matter utterly failed.

    • PeterC

What is the big deal; if Gay people are not considered as human to and have their lives protected?

      • MattM

        Good point.

  • Rickster Rickster

    his religious beliefs are delusional.

    • noni

      and water is wet.

  • NZArtist

Question #1: Do you have an invisible friend?
Okay, well it’s the straight-jacket and daily enemas for *you*.

  • CottonBlimp

I’m sorry, but how can you say he killed people because of a mental illness when plenty of mentally well people are happy to voice their approval?

Whether he’s mentally ill or not, he didn’t just kill people over a psychotic break, he had a premeditated desire to attack people for being gay, encouraged by the society he grew up in.

  • Rebecca Gardner

1 religious nut in the loony bin. 6,000,000,000+ to go.

    • Sk3ptic

    • JCF

Please come visit me in my padded cell, Becca, ‘kay? O_x

      • Rebecca Gardner

Can I bring my latex straitjacket?

        • JCF

Only if it’s ribbed for my pleasure! ;-p

          • Rebecca Gardner

Do the straps and buckles count as ribs?

    • gaymex

Maybe we can talk them into self-lockup….kinda like that idea Mitt had on self-deportation.

  • AtticusP

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this guy get his entire livelihood paid by the government of Israel to do nothing more than read the Torah all day? and I believe that he is totally exempt from military service.

If all of that is true, he’s the crazy one? How can they tell?

    • Mark

this douchebag wouldn’t even make a good sandbag.

  • Octavio

Fine. Just fine. NOW they decide to put him in a psychiatric ward. Swift thinking. 🙁

  • Robincho

Check the eyes, folks… They’s some serious lightnin’ storms happening in what passes for that “brain”…

  • JCF

…where he’ll have an adjoining (padded) cell to Hamas murderers.

Oh, wait, no he won’t. The latter are characterized as terrorists, not mental patients! Behold the double standard.

    • motordog

You’re looking at this as a reasonable, logical person. You need to view it through the glass of arrogance, paranoia, xenophobia, and fundamentalism…then it makes ‘perfect sense’.

  • Librarykid

Every day, for the rest of his miserable life, he should have peppery pork sausage shoved down his throat and his mouth held shut by tying a belt over his head and under his jaw for about an hour until it is all the way down. Then he can have a drink of water. He will be in a straight jacket so that he cannot make himself vomit by putting fingers down his throat. Then he will be read the prohibition on eating pork. This sad fucker thinks he is Phineas, God’s avenger, when he is just a hate-filled murderer. Oh, and the peppers will burn coming out, too.

  • Richard Rush

It’s interesting how increasing levels of religious fervor always seem to correlate with increasing levels of insanity. Have you ever met a crazy person who discovered religion, and then became increasingly sane as their religiosity increased?

  • gaymex

That crazy look he has couldn’t have suddenly appeared…wouldn’t it have shown up on a fetal ultrasound?

    • noni

      or a Republican vaginal probe?

  • Is “stabber” the gentler, kinder way of saying murderer?

  • Bill_Perdue

I wonder if he’ll be in the psychiatric facility, Kfar Shaul Mental Health Center, in the former Palestinian town of Deir Yassin where” Early in the morning of April 9, 1948, commandos of the Irgun (headed by Menachem Begin) and the Stern Gang attacked Deir Yassin, a village with about 750 Palestinian residents. The village lay outside of the area to be assigned by the United Nations to the Jewish State; it had a peaceful reputation. …the Haganah, authorized the irregular terrorist forces of the Irgun and the Stern Gang to perform the takeover. … In all over 100 men, women, and children were systematically murdered. Fifty-three orphaned children were literally dumped along the wall of the Old City, where they were found by Miss Hind Husseini and brought behind the American Colony Hotel to her home, which was to become the Dar El-Tifl El-Arabi orphanage.”

Zionist colonial society is racist, homophobic, capitalist and it’s right wing leadership embraces and practices rape and ethnic cleansing. No one is surprised when colonists act out that madness, as they did in the attack on Gaza and by burning to boys alive or by getting rich off apartheid and mass murder.

  • delk

    Shave him.

    • Palmer

The Nazis used to rip out the beards of Orthodox Jews one hair at a time. Your comment brought that image up. And of Romney attacking an effeminate boy and shaving his head as a “prank.”

I’m all for finding a cell and leaving him there and think the secular Jews of Israel need to boot these freeloaders to the curb as soon as possible.

      • delk

I clearly DID not think that comment out completely. Considering my husband’s father, who grew up in the Warsaw ghetto, was sent to Auschwitz as a child, I feel horrible for not realizing how my comment would be interpreted.

In all honestly, I was just thinking what would be the most hurtful/shameful thing to do to the guy.

Thanks for reminding me to reread my comments before pressing ‘post’.

  • Gordon.

Well, whether it’s in a mental institution or a prison, he definitely needs to be locked up.

  • Mark

i’m just glad they can see that religious hate is a mental issue

  • anne marie in philly

“Jerusalem Pride Killer Admitted To Psychiatric Ward” – no shit! why wasn’t this done BEFORE people were killed!!!!!

  • goofy_joe

If they knew he was a danger to participants of the parade, why didn’t they have a better eye on him? So sad that their negligence, his sickness, and the pervasive views of religion have ended with an innocent young girl gone.

  • Piet

I’d like to see him with a haircut and a shave, wearing a rainbow kippeh, sitting perpetual shiva for the girl he murdered, and forced to recite kaddish for every non-ultra-orthodox death by ultra-orthodox violence. Nothing to eat but plain kasha, boiled eggs, and weak tea. For the rest of his miserable existence.

  • Daniel

    undergone extensive treatment

    …to no apparent effect…

  • saucetin

Phil Robertson’s beard looks just as shitty on this loser.

  • TexPlant

Doesn’t he sort of resemble Jennifer Aniston’s new husband??

  • BudClark

What sorts of laws does Israel have against hate speech? What about all the people who put up posters declaring him “a righteous man?”
