Update In Case Of Just-Elected MAGA Republican Convicted Of Sexual Assault: Victim Was His Daughter

First, a remind from our post on Monday…

Indianapolis’s Fox affiliate reports:

A current central Indiana county commissioner has pleaded guilty in a Nevada sexual assault case, days after being elected to his local County Council.

John D. Jessup – a current Commissioner for Hancock County’s District 1 – pled guilty this week in a Las Vegas court to one count of attempted sexual assault. The plea deal lowered Jessup’s charge from a Level A felony to a Level B felony – which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Last week, Jessup was elected to the Hancock County Council as one of three Republican candidates. He received over 15,000 votes while both Democrat challengers barely cracked 10,000 each.

Law & Crime reports:

The county commish is slated to be sentenced in April. As convicted felons cannot serve in office in Indiana, Jessup will have to resign. “It’s been my greatest honor serving the people of Hancock County and I’m deeply, deeply ashamed and profoundly sorry for the shame that I brought to the county,” Jessup told the Daily Reporter.

Prosecutors are reportedly requesting that Jessup serve between eight and 20 years in prison, while his attorneys are asking for probation.

Multiple witnesses reportedly told detectives that Jessup kept “feeding” the woman Long Island iced teas. The woman was reportedly so intoxicated that she needed a wheelchair to get to her room after arriving back at a hotel with Jessup.

And here’s today’s shocking update:

One of Rachel Jessup’s fondest childhood memories used to be going to the polls on Election Day with her dad, John Jessup. Rachel started going to the polls with Jessup, a current Hancock County Commissioner, when she was about the age of a kindergartener.

“‘Please vote for my daddy’ is what I used to say to voters,” Rachel said. “I was a typical 5-year-old kid who idolized my dad, and as I got older I always supported his political runs because I was his go-to person going to the polls with him. I was a daddy’s girl.”

Rachel, now a 22-year-old college student, is trying to forget Jessup, a man she now calls “John” instead of “Dad.” Rachel is Jessup’s youngest biological daughter and is the woman Jessup is accused of sexually assaulting during a drunken night in Las Vegas in late January.

Maybe it’s not that shocking, huh?

A Trump supporting, anti-trans, anti-gay Republican was elected commissioner of the county where I grew up. He won despite being in jail on election night for a sexual assault in Vegas.

It’s now come out that the woman he assaulted was his daughter.
