KY Factory Explodes, People “Trapped And Missing”

Louisville’s CBS affiliate reports:

A loud boom heard throughout Louisville Tuesday afternoon was from a large explosion in the Clifton neighborhood, sources say. We’re told the explosion happened at the Givaudan Sense Colour plant in the 1900 block of Payne Street. Sources tell WLKY people are “missing and trapped inside.” Louisville Fire officials said at least two people have been transported to hospitals. It said there are hazardous materials involved.

Louisville’s ABC affiliate reports:

A shelter in place was issued for a 1-mile radius from the area, EMS said. Louisville Metro Police said rescuers are setting up a “triage area” nearby. Several businesses nearby on Frankfort Avenue had all their windows blown out, employees said. Givaudan Sense Colour is a natural food coloring plant wedged between rowhouses to its south and railroad tracks to its north.The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it’s responded to the “critical incident.”
