Politico reports:
National and state Republicans have spent a year hoping someone — anyone — would prevent disgraced former Gov. Eric Greitens from becoming the Republican Senate nominee in Missouri. In just the nick of time, it appears their wish is coming true, as the former governor has dropped to third place in new polls amid a flurry of TV ads featuring allegations of domestic abuse. The primary will be held Aug. 2.
Polling released Monday by the Trafalgar Group shows Eric Schmitt, Missouri’s attorney general, in the lead at 27 percent, followed closely by Rep. Vicky Hartzler at 24 percent, with Greitens at 20 percent. Another poll out on Monday from Missouri Scout, a subscription-based political news outlet in the state, found Schmitt at 32 percent, Hartzler at 25 percent and Greitens at 18 percent.
