Megachurch Pastor Arrested For Sexual Assault

The Toronto Star reports:

A pastor at one of Canada’s largest megachurches has been arrested and charged with sexual assault by Hamilton police after an external investigation concluded he allegedly abused his power and sexually harassed a parishioner.

Bruxy Cavey, a teaching pastor at The Meeting House in Oakville, confirmed his resignation in a blog post acknowledging the investigation, saying: “at the core of these allegations there is truth.”

According to a press release from the Hamilton Police Service, Cavey will appear in court on June 27. Cavey, who is in his late 50s, was placed on leave at the end of last year as the church board investigated an allegation of sexual misconduct.

Cavey last appeared on JMG in March 2022 when he acknowledged having committed adultery. The Meeting House reportedly has 19 campuses across Ontario. As you can see, Cavey has a tattoo of Leviticus 19:28, which says, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.” According to Cavey, he chose that verse as the most emblematic of how Jesus freed Christians from the laws of the Old Testament. Or something.
