The Washington Post reports:
House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on Tuesday defended President Donald Trump’s speech ahead of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, saying he advocated peaceful protest, unlike Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) during her recent appearance at a Minnesota rally.
Pressed on why he hadn’t criticized Trump’s Jan. 6 speech — which was central to the impeachment charge against him of “incitement of insurrection” — Scalise defended the former president.
“In fact, President Trump used the word ‘peaceful’ when he talked about, you know, the statements that he made,” Scalise said. “I haven’t heard Maxine saying anything about peacefully protesting.”
