“Death To Non-Christians” GOP State Rep Raises Funds For 51st “Christian State” To Be Based On Biblical Law

The Idaho State Journal reports:

A fundraising event for the proposed creation of a 51st state called Liberty started on a tense note Thursday evening as onetime loyalists of state Rep. Matt Shea held what they called a “silent protest” and stood toe-to-toe with armed security guards.

The Liberty State Gala drew about 200 people to the CenterPlace Regional Event Center in Spokane Valley. Supporters of the new Christian conservative state — which would span parts of Washington and Oregon, as well as Idaho, Montana and Wyoming — raised money by auctioning pies and other desserts.

The lineup of speakers included Shea, a Spokane Valley Republican who has championed the Liberty State movement; Spokane City Councilor Mike Fagan; Spokane City Council candidate Tim Benn; and Loren Culp, the police chief in Republic, Wash., who made headlines when he pledged not to enforce a gun control initiative that voters passed in November.

The Spokane Spokesman-Review reports:

Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell also attended the fundraiser with his wife, Lesley, to learn what the Liberty State movement is about.

“It’s certainly something that’s worth listening to,” Haskell said, adding that he believes a new state could form with the blessing of the Washington Legislature and Congress. “It’s clearly provided for in the law,” he said.

State Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley, has championed the Liberty State movement while spreading conspiracy theories about a looming civil war between “Christian patriots” on one side and “Marxists” and “Islamists” on the other.

From my first report on Matt Shea:

Washington state Rep. Matt Shea acknowledged Wednesday he had distributed a four-page manifesto titled “Biblical Basis for War,” which describes the Christian God as a “warrior,” details the composition and strategies of a “Holy Army” and condemns abortion and same-sex marriage.

The document is organized in 14 sections with multiple tiers of bullet points and a smattering of biblical citations. Under one heading, “Rules of War,” it makes a chilling prescription for enemies who flout “biblical law.” It states, “If they do not yield – kill all males.”

Shea was easily reelected to a seventh term in November.
