McConnell To Intro Spending Bill To Avert Shutdown

Politico reports:

Mitch McConnell is working to bail out Congress and President Donald Trump from an intractable government shutdown impasse, moving on Wednesday to fund the government into early February and avoid a funding lapse right before the holidays.

The Senate majority leader will introduce a bill that funds the government through Feb. 8 after a longer-term offer was rejected by congressional Democrats on Tuesday amid a continuing battle between Trump and congressional Democrats over his border wall.

Axios reports:

It’s unclear when votes will occur, but lawmakers have until Friday to reach a deal. McConnell said yesterday that he has been “in consultation” with the White House, and is confident there will not be a government shutdown despite President Trump’s demands for $5 billion in funding for the border wall.
