BREAKING: Trump Won’t Release Dem Memo

The Hill reports:

President Trump has reportedly told House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Devin Nunes that he is unable to approve the release of the Democratic countermemo to Nunes’ surveillance memo, according to Bloomberg.

Nunes’ memo was released publicly last week after weeks of public battle between committee Republicans and Democrats. The memo accuses FBI and Justice Department officials of abusing a surveillance program to unfairly target the Trump campaign.

Democrats on the committee, led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), prepared this memo to provide a rebuttal to the GOP memo. The committee voted Monday to make the memo public, pending Trump’s approval.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

This is (some say) exactly the result that the Dems expected and wanted.

    • Ninja0980

      Yup.

      • David L. Caster

Right, it strongly suggests that the Nunes memo was high political theater, and strengthens the narrative that Trump has something to hide, both at the same time

      Dear Mr. Steele,
If you have any left-overs from your previous information, that you may not have included in your Dossier, or if you heard anything new on the grapvine, now would be a good time to disclose what you got.

      Just saying.
      Signed,
      Everyone.

      • Buford

Also, where’s Tom Arnold with those behind-the-scenes Apprentice tapes showing Trump spouting all the insane, racist, offensive stuff…?? Didn’t he say he had access to them and would release them when the time was right..?

        • JackFknTwist

Exactly. Are they all terrified of Trump/turd ?
Or are they putting their own careers and advancement above the good of the country?

      • Gerry Fisher

He did. To Mueller during his two-day interview.

    (Fast forwarding Rachael’s exposition)
The most important news broken tonight is …
NYT reports the #3 is stepping down …
She’s been in her job for 9 months … now to work for Walmart
The administration has gone after a lot of DOJ officials …
There are may more officials who hare or are leaving …
Reporting that the chief of staff asked to clean house …
    And they have been.

    But Rachael Brand…

    • SoCalGal20

      #3 at DOJ.

    • safari

She became the “trap door” underneath Mueller’s investigation because Mueller gets to run his own investigation but he needs permission for advances like opening up a new line of inquiry or bringing up charges. He has to advise them in advance. And that’d be Rod Rosenstein.

      [Wendy’s Where’s the Beef Commercial]

      • safari

        *sigh*
I feel sometimes like trying to summarize Rachael is like listening to those old radio serials where they spend most of the time recapping what happened last time and then inching the plot.

      • safari

Okay, now she’s getting to the idea that the #3 would replace Rod @#2 so … I’m guessing we’re going to hear something bad about #4.

        • safari

          Solicitor General Noel Fransisco.

          • safari

            He’s was a Scalia clerk.

          • JCF

And represented CORRUPT Gov Bob McDonnell (who eventually beat the rap), AND attacked ObamaCare.

And he’s the next one up, to save Mueller (and the Republic) if Rosenstein goes… }-p

          • Lumpy Gaga

And who was the fucking Democrat who voted to advance him out of committee???

It looks like Rachel won’t be covering the $100k briefcase story tonight.

I get it though because it kind of deserves its own show.

    • gaycuckhubby

Surprised how little attention it has received tonight

      • Leo

Too much intrigue, too much to unpack and way too much shit went down today.

    WE. DESERVE. A. NEW. ELECTION!!!!!!
The man is dangerous. He’s hiding the FACT that he was in collusion to STEAL our election! And he used the help of a country whose interests are diametrically opposed to ours!

  • Leo

A sign of all the massive shit going on tonight is that the biggest (long-term) story, the briefcase, is getting pushed to Monday for Rachel.

I only recall that last happening for the story about Jared Kushner and Chinese intel.

    • Treant

And yet Mueller can’t find it in his (Republican) heart to charge much of anybody with much of anything. Turns out Manafort was in much deeper than we knew…but the charges are pure bullshit.

      • Leo

It ain’t over ’til its over.

        • Treant

Honey? It’s over. We’re in election season, and he won’t be allowed to tender charges during that. If Dems retake the House, charges may end up being lodged, but they’ll die in the Senate.

          • Leo

I’ve said from the beginning that Trump will pardon everyone and anyone he doesn’t won’t get charged anyways even with what I think will be half-decent evidence from Mueller on cases presented of money laundering, obstruction, etc because of yes, the Senate. Same for Trump himself.

I just want to see the cases made with the evidence laid out in black and white.

          • Silver Badger

Probably won’t even get that. Mueller may not be aware, but he could well be the only thing saving trump from an unpleasant end.

          • Leo

There will be questions that will never be answered in our lifetimes once this case is all finished. It’s hard to admit/confront that reality.

          • Silver Badger

People are still arguing about who and how many shot Kennedy. Not confronting reality has become a national pastime.

          • sadoldguy

I think Mueller is going to cause a “constitutional crisis”, supreme court involvement.

Optimums at heart, pessimist by practice.

          • Silver Badger

Well, he’d damn well better hurry the fuck up.

          • Treant

It would be best if it never is laid out. I’d rather see the literal, “Nope, nothing to see here” letter being presented and let them all scurry back under the fridge.

          • gaycuckhubby

It was always EXTREMELY unlikely that any special investigator was going to take an American President away in cuffs.
But we were fed this false narrative for long enough that people will feel let down by Mueller now.

Every Democratic congressperson says he acts guilty but none have said he’s actually guilty of a felony

          • Treant

It’s not a matter of feeling let down, it’s the feeling that we’ve been utterly betrayed by Mueller who will happily retire to his tropical island that…oh, you didn’t know he owned that? Yep, always did. What are you looking at? Go away, peon.

          • Silver Badger

            Used, played and betrayed.

          • gaycuckhubby

Ok. But like I said, I don’t think ANY investigator would be likely to make criminal charges against Trump. Certainly not with the info we know

          • Treant

(We should point out that I’ve been extremely negative about any possible outcome since day one).

While it’s possible I’m being too cynical, when we’re well over a year in, with a guy who’s admitted to illegal activities on Twitter and in speeches, and no charges are even being considered currently…cynical seems called for.

    https://www.buzzfeed.com/salvadorhernandez/a-second-white-house-staffer-has-resigned-over-abuse?utm_term=.cfrpepl13#.tyRvZvydY

“A White House speechwriter resigned Friday amid allegations he was abusive to his ex-wife during their marriage, a move that comes just days after another Trump administration official quit amid similar accusations.

Speechwriter David Sorensen resigned from his position Friday after he was confronted about the allegations, the White House said.”

    • safari

Further down this thread is his reply that she is the one that abused him.

      • My father used to claim my mother punched and kicked him, but for some reason only she ever had the bruises.

Shivers. So many times have we heard something like this:-(

          • Ann Kah

Mom gave me a rolling pin, same purpose but not quite so lethal. But I never had to use it, in 45 years of marriage.

    • Mueller really, really needs to hurry the fuck up.

      • David L. Caster

I think he is meticulously building his case. The heat and light that we must endure through the rain of daily outrages coming from the administration is a distraction that targets the majority of the electorate and media of every stripe. Mueller cannot and must not be deflected, distracted, or misled like so much of the rest of the country; his purpose, which is to get to the truth, must be single minded and relentless.

  • 2patricius2

I think the Democrats should just release it themselves.

    • Silver Badger

They can always “leak” an “annominimus” (Is that spelled right? It looks wrong but spellcheck doesn’t seem to care.) copy to the press. Lots and lots of the press.

      • David L. Caster

        Anonymous.

The House can simply vote to declassify the memo and release it, removing Trump from the loop. The question is of course will they.

    • Leo

    • gaycuckhubby

      Seems problematic

    • Treant

Somebody’s uneducated damaging of the English language.

My old work place used to use “consense” as a verb. As in, to reach a consensus. But a verb. Every time I heard it, I corrected it.

“But we’re allowed to make up new words!”

Yes, but not if they suck and they’re a precise synonym for “agree,” which we use as a rough synonym for what actually happens in those meetings which is, “Suck up to the most powerful person in there by doing whatever they say.”

      • Ann Kah

I shudder when I hear the word “dialog” used as a verb. Then there was the speed limit on the Ohio turnpike, reduced speed in an urban. area. Urban is a word. Urban-(dot) is presumably an abbreviation, but I’m not sure for what. Urbanized? Urbanified? Urbanificationized? The sky’s the limit.

Now don’t get me started on “orientated”…

        • Treant

“I could care less.” (Actually, I use that as, “I could care less if I tried, but who has the energy?”)

        • medaka

IMHO, the worst mistake one can make in English is using “then” instead of “than” when making a comparative statement. One trusted and honorable commenter here is guilty of this on a daily basis.

And then there’s the sad misuse of the word “literally”…

        1. is there still a restriction on selling alcohol on Sunday (or maybe not until after noon?) – in VA or D.C. ?2. does one still have to go to state operated liquor stores for any alcoholic beverage? Back in 1973-80 when I worked and lived there (VA and D.C.) that was the case. Of course I could go on a military base and buy it at the Class 6 store (military liquor store with no restrictions as I recall). Same thing back in the day inTexas (San Antonio) at Lackland AFB – we officer trainees and enlisted airmen could be on base and drink at the clubs anytime and more potent than just 3.2 % beer!…..very jealous Texans off base!

I understand trump’s need to continuously enrage the base with conspiracy theories, but at some point ‘enrage’ will become ‘incite’*.

In June 2015, Mr. Kelly spoke up again, this time to prevent Todd Shane Tomko, then a colonel, from being discharged from the Marine Corps. Mr. Tomko faced a litany of charges, including misconduct and sexual harassment.

In an administrative hearing before Mr. Tomko’s eventual court-martial, Mr. Kelly served as a character witness, joining the proceedings through a telephone call. During the call, the transcript of which was obtained by The New York Times, Mr. Kelly described Mr. Tomko as a “superb Marine officer.”

    Chaser:

Mr. Tomko eventually pleaded guilty to a series of lesser charges, including conduct unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman. He was sentenced to two months of jail time and paid a $10,000 fine.

In November, Mr. Tomko was arrested in Illinois on outstanding warrants in Virginia Beach. He was charged with seven child abuse felonies, according to his hometown newspaper, The Quincy Herald-Whig, which first reported Mr. Tomko’s arrest. The charges included sexual battery and cruelty to children.

          • Ha’aretz (The World or The Earth) is the primary opposition to Netanyahu’s government, most pro peace – 2 state solution — and newspaper most associated with the Israeli Labour (Socialist) Party — the newspaper that Tel Aviv (LGBT) Israel reads. They are very critical of the U.S. movement of the embassy to Jerusalem right now for example, and ongoing settlements and Palestinian human rights violations. So if you saw it there it is a good source. Says that Israel downed an Iranian drone — I just looked. Israel does not want Iran setting up armed forces near their border with them.

            An article begins:

The Israeli army said Saturday morning that it intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria into Israeli territory. In response to the provocation, the IDF attacked Iranian targets in Syria.

Due to Syrian anti-aircraft fire, says the army, red alert sirens sounded in multiple areas of northern Israel, first in the northern Israeli town of Beit She’an and later in the surrounding areas and Golan Heights.

  • Hue-Man

O/T Has there been a discussion of code of conduct for ***SPOILERS*** of Olympics results? I ask because, as usual, NBC is delaying their broadcasts of Olympics events while other networks are programming live.

For example, NBC doesn’t have live programming until Saturday at 8:00 EST.
Right now (midnight PST), CBC English has
Cross-country skiing (women’s 7.5km/7.5km skiathlon); short track (men’s and women’s heats and finals).

    and CBC French
Ski de fond féminin (7,5 km, finale); hockey féminin (Japon c. Suède).

I know social media makes the question moot but thought I would ask.

    • BeaverTales
      • Hue-Man

Impossible! CBC English and French (OTA) and TSN/RDS (cable = ESPN. 4 channels) 10 to 15 hours/day. I’ve dropped in for a few minutes – mixed curling, snowboard + team figure skating.

    • SoCalGal20

Other NBC-owned channels are carrying some events live. So if you have cable they’re showing events live on USA, NBCSN, CNBC, etc.

But, yes, not sure how everybody wants to deal with spoilers. Disqus does have the option of spoiler tags.

EDIT: Pretty much everything is being carried live by NBC’s streaming coverage.

Anything other than “Sieg heil” isn’t recognized by the Shitgibbon. This traitor is worse than Nixon and unfit for any office in the United States Government. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8f6c2ac98fc1f60da04cdd60143df7d63046de6ef34b87bfb0fcd150bb2874d0.png

There must be someone with access who doesn’t give a flying fuck about “being the better person.”

    • Jerry Kott

To meet T45 on any semblance of a level playing field, his playing field would be in the under world, is a waste of time. The Democrats finger wagging is getting old. Release it, he wrote the rules to this game.

    • Wouldn’t they be the better person? I know, lack of following rules and whatnot, but how is that different than how They operate?

  • rednekokie

I’ll bet it gets leaked, anyhow. Hope so, anyway.

  • Matt G, Rochester

Surprise, surprise, surprise – said no one.

  • Jimmy R

Why do they need his permission? Just release the damn thing, leaving every word intact. Fuck him. What’s he gonna do? What CAN he do? (Short of imprisoning all political enemies.) Playing nice with bullies? Whatever for.

    • Gianni

That would be a criminal offense. The release of ‘classified’ material is subject to legal restrictions.

  • kareemachan

Let’s not forget that the human q-tip didn’t stand when Korean athletes paraded during opening ceremonies. Nice job, dipshit.

  • The_Wretched

    Leak the memo!

    • Yes! That is brilliant!

    • Gianni

Doing that would be a criminal offense.

  • Mike Knife

They are hiding the truth about the FBI who are illegally spying on you.

  • Gregory B

It’s 2018. Release the damn MEMO! Merci, bonsoir!

  • iPhone does anyone give a fuck about memos? Hell, anyone can write a memo. I could write a fucking memo. Here, I’ll scrawl “Fuck you Trump”on a napkin, and get everyone on Twatter to scream “#releasethenappy”, will that make me a fucking rock star?
