Fox News Takes Their Website To The Breitbart Side

Politico reports:

A sleeping media giant may be about to wake up: Fox News’ website — known for its high traffic, but not strong identity —is staffing up and sharpening its voice in hopes of equaling the impact of its increasingly pro-Trump television partner.

A website that had been more closely identified with Shepard Smith’s brand of reporting has now moved closer to the mold of Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, according to former staff members. “The approach has gone much more the way the prime-time programming works,” said one, “where it feels more agenda or opinion driven, or combative.”

According to Noah Kotch, who took over six months ago as Fox News digital editor in chief and vice president, his staff has grown to more than 100 full-time staffers, an increase of about 45 percent in the past year. The ramp-up signals that digital is now a major priority for Rupert Murdoch’s news outlet, Kotch said, adding that there is an increased focus on collaboration with TV.

    Fox is completely fucked.

    • olandp

      No, WE are completely fucked.

      • Dramphooey

Time will tell. If the good guys win they may be sowing the seeds of their destruction as a news organization. They could always excuse their prime time lineup as opinion shows but how, unless it is clearly delineated like a newspaper with the op-ed page, can they justify news jumbled with very biased opinion?

        • zhera

I believe they call it entertainment, or ‘infotainment’?

      • fastlanestranger

        Why not both?

  • Dramphooey

They’re trying to compete with not only Breitbart but a lot of fake news sites and moronic Facebook “groups” that get shared. Clicks are money.

  • blackstar

My opinion is that Fox is now a RT Branch now.

    • Reality.Bites

Well goodness knows he was an abject failure working for himself.

    • Bambino

I think we have pass the point of did he or didn’t he. This dotard is like a road side accident. Many just slowly drive by gawk at what he has done and just move on thinking someone will eventually clean it up.

    • Todd20036

I’d say those spies are off by only 2 letters.

    • Nowhereman

I really do believe that they own his ass.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Kids, there was a time in this world when Fox, Breitbart and tRump did not exist.

THAT is what we need to get back to.

    • Lantor

Sounds like dystopian teen fiction. Too bad we’re living it.

  • JAKvirginia

I anticipate that Fox, with net neutrality threatened, has found a way to get the rubes to pay for it. Follow the money. Always.

  • Stogiebear

Why bother changing their website and hiring all those people when they could have just done a redirect from Fox over to Breitbart?

  • Reality.Bites

Economically this makes perfect sense. The Fox News TV audience is literally dying. Younger people, regardless of political stripe, are simply NOT going to sit in front of TV watching 24 minutes of news spread out over 24 hours. But they will watch web clips.

Unless it’s a story with continuous real changes (like election results on election night) I see no point whatsoever in watching TV news. Unlike in the past, written reporting isn’t delivered just once a day.

And mentally/emotionally, it’s much better for me (and I suspect some others here as well) to not have to see or hear Trump, his crime family and hired thugs, but only read about it, surrounded by others who share my opinions.

Sadly it’s meant that two shows I really enjoyed – Last Week Tonight and Full Frontal – are off my list for the duration of his time infesting the Oval Office.

    • Hue-Man

I quit The Daily Show for the same reason after Drumpf got the nomination. The only words I want to hear coming out of his mouth are “I quit”.

      • Reality.Bites

I’m kind of partial to “Ivanka, why?” as she castrates him before committing patricide/mariticide.

(That’s the term for killing your husband)

    • BlackGayVeganAtheist

I am with you while my husband has an iron clad stomach for all things Trump as soon as The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight or Samantha Bee starts talking about him I open a book and head downstairs…needless to say I have read a lot as of late.

  • Dana Chilton

Anyone who’s read their headlines lately can attest to this. It’s nearly always about Hillary, obama, or some race baiting headline. Pretty soon I imagine it will be all about glorious leader

    • iambu

SOMEone needs to defend White Santa.

      • Canadian Observer

Nah, let’s just give him a pointy stick and let him defend himself.

  • BlackGayVeganAtheist

FOX’s reputation for sexual harassment and assault has further tarnished their brand. Not that their viewers care anyway now if only there were males being sexually harassed viewership would plummet!

They have no choice but to copy the styling of Breitbart to compete with the biggest lying news site around in an effort (much like Bannon) to boost ad revenue.

Here some suggestions for the NEW Fox News site:

    More Stupid All the Time

Undermining Women, Minorities and the Truth

    Reality & Democracy

We Think Our Viewers Are Morons with nothing else better to Watch

  • GayOldLady

And as this is happening MSNBC decides not to renew the contract of Joan Walsh, but yet they enrich the likes of Hugh Hewitt and keep him on the air. WTF is going on?

    • BearEyes

one of the NBC suits wants to remake msnbc into a fox-lite.
Andy lack maybe – trying to think of his name.
Joan Walsh is very good. Hewitt is a hack.

      • KT

Yeah, Andy Lack is the guy trying to move MSNBC more to the right. I wouldn’t be surprised if his Comcast overlords hired him to do so. The funny thing is, thanks to Trump MSNBC’s ratings have increased on all its liberal programs like Maddow and All in with Chris Hayes so now he is stuck with a liberal prime time lineup lol.

        • Kruhn

          Don’t forget AM Joy

    • Ninja0980

They still want to remake MSNBC into a far right rival to Fox.

      • Dramphooey

Good luck with that; Michael Savage lasted one day.

    • Lantor

That makes me sad. I’m glad they rehired Sam Seder, but that “progressive” ship is sunk. All the progressive voices need to jump ship.

    • Bryan

That’s a big shame, Joan’s voice is a necessary one on discussion panels.

  • hdtex
  • Elagabalus

They should just call it what it is: Trump TV.

    • Bambino

Dumb TV, the dotard alone can’t sustain a network without lemmings of sheep staring at the tube.

    • Lantor

I think that’s what Trump and the Mercers wanted but the whole presidency got in the way

  • Rebecca Gardner

Somewhere in Hell Joseph Goebbels is looking on in envy.

    • OdieDenCO

in the echo of history, George Santayana says “told you”.

  • Tomcat

So Fox will become just as relevant as Breitbart. Good.

    • Dramphooey

With luck and hard work on our part.

  • Todd20036

This really isn’t surprising. Fox “news” is fully embracing their Nazi base. It isn’t even a hidden thing anymore.

  • Gigi

“Hit the link for a recap of recent Breitbart-esque headlines.” No thanks. I’d like to enjoy my day.

  • Tomcat

Trump is so jealous of Kim Jung Un because Kim is admired by everyone that is in complete terror of him. Trump wants the same thing here.

    • Todd20036

Yeah, the us libtards are not terrified of him, only of the damage he can cause.

      • JCF

Um, THIS libtard has Medicaid, so yes—I’m terrified of him (And I’m also on the West Coast—in the most likely missile range of North Korea)

  • Bambino

100 full-time staffers huh, let me see how many sexual assault already taken place in this new department?

    • Tomcat

They learned their lesson and only hire professional hookers now.

      • John Davis

I thought they ALWAYS had professional hookers on their “on-camera” shows, with their short skirts and 99% of them with blond hair.

        • Bambino

Masked under the title of journalist or broadcaster.

        • Helen Damnation™

and long, dangling cocktail earrings, preferably with diamonds.

      • Bambino

I doubt it. They will not pay if they can get away with it.

      • jeffg166

        The staff is in Moscow.

      • Gianni

Either that or they sign a contract confirming that they are open to any and all sexual suggestions, comments, feels, come-ons, gropes, and/or direct propositions to get it on. That way there’s nothing to complain about and no court standing in any harassment lawsuit.

  • Tomcat

How possibly could anyone be in their right mind and still do the things the right is doing? I fund it deplorable.

  • John Davis

Wait, Fox News and Breitbart were once two different things? You must be talking BEFORE the days of Obama. I never could tell the difference between those two “news” sources since about 2007. They both lie, misinform, exagerate, and they both never “discuss” an issue rationally.

    • Tomcat

But let MSNBC or CNN defend a Democrat and they scream bloody murder.

      • meh. both of those orgs have a long running habit of letting the more left leaning people go, esp if they get too popular. faux is the obvious thing in the room, but for too many people, the other ones are still considered “balanced” and “fact-based.” they aren’t.

        • Tomcat

I disagree about those two letting left leaning go.
Over the years they have bashed Hillary on numerous occasions unmercifully.

  • margaretpoa

Although FOX has for years been more or less open about their hyper partisanship, these days they’re promoting it as a feature. So much for the heady days when Murdoch’s sons took it over and the CW was that it was going to become less partisan.

    • hey grrl! welcome to holiday saturday. i hope you have been well.

      • margaretpoa

Hi sweetie. Good to see your fonts. I’m good except for getting over a mild cold. You?

        • meh. it’s that time of year i hate so much, as an atheist. time to get along! and keep my mouf shut.

          • margaretpoa

I fully sympathize and share your feelings. Fortunately I no longer have any family for whom I have to piety pose.

  • pj

how can don read it? he dosent know how to work the internets.

    • iambu

      Or the alphabet.

    • M Jackson

He doesn’t need to know. He hears lots of things from many people.

      • the best things.
        the biggest people.

    • Cuberly Deux

He has staff for that…..that prints out the interwebz for him to read.

      • snowdogrob2112

        In Emoji’s I’m sure.

  • bkmn

Its a matter of time before they jettison Shep from Fox.

    • Dramphooey

Of shuffle him to a meaningless time slot. The best thing about him is how angry the jerks are that he’s on the air. One show in a lineup of crazy catering to them.

      • Lantor

what is his time slot? Isn’t it like 4 or 5? That’s when the viewers go get dinner!

    • William

He’s the token nod to diversity.

      • Reality.Bites

        As well as sanity.

  • Fair and Balanced.

  • KP

MSM reporters have treated Fox News as a legitimate news org for years despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. Why? They may need a job in the future so why diss a potential employer on the record. So the propaganda falls like rainwater.

  • OdieDenCO

good thing that net neutrality thingy was destroyed. not we can be sure of getting the official party lie at the top of every search and streamed the fastest.

  • Richard B

Joan Walsh was a brilliant and talented progressive. This is just one more move amongst many by MSNBC’s President, Phil Griffin to water down MSNBC content to be less progressive. Phil Griffin seems to discount that MSNBC has finally developed its brand and that the progressive audiences have moved the networks ratings to record levels.

  • Halou

Add this to Fox disowning it’s film business, something which clearly wasn’t attracting the attention it wanted, nor sharing the “good news” of the far-right’s very own fat orange Jebus.

    • Friday

I think they knew that trying to make the entertainment end also right-wing propaganda just wouldn’t make any real money.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

The society depicted in V for Vendetta is becoming more and more a reality in America…so the question now is, who will be your V and will they what’s necessary?

    • I repeat my suggestion that, for the duration of the current administration, there should be a cable channel that is constantly showing “V for Vendetta” 24/7.

    • leastyebejudged

Uhm, the government IS obviously afraid of the people, and this is an undesirable position for the people to be in because of the sheer size and authority the people have permitted the government to have over them.

When you make the US government bigger, you betray everybody and everything that matters. How big does the government need to be ?

Only you can pull your own head out of your ass.

  • Helen Damnation™

I done told y’all that Fox News would soon be forevermore known as State TV, but you didn’t listen. God damn it, and now I’m out of vodka.

  • Gianni

I’m beginning to suspect that Hannity and Trump are 69ing on a fairly regular basis.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

You want to take over a country? You take over their free media. This should be alarming to anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together. Too bad his base is lacking those brain cells. We will all pay for this.

  • gothambear

not surprising – read today’s NYT article about trump’s close friendship with Murdoch and his 3 US properties NY Post, Fox News and the odious Wall Street Journal, All in pro-trump lockstep.
