Roy Moore Defies Calls To Drop Out

Despite near universal calls for him to drop out from all sides of the political world and a poll showing a majority of voters want him to do so, this afternoon alleged child molester and Christian icon Roy Moore declared on Twitter that the voters of his state will decide his fate, not the “Washington elite.”

  • Judas Peckerwood

Don’t give in Roy! Stick it out to the bitter, bitter end!

    • justmeeeee

Hell yeah! Give the rethugs in the swamp something to do with their time and energy!

This is partly our fault. After ousting Gaddafi we called it “mission accomplished” and left, when what we should have done is something like what we did in Bosnia and Kosovo and kept a peace keeping/nation building force there to restore order and move the area closer to the west.

The IRS twelve months ago, maybe. The IRS today…

    • BlindBill

And there lies his biggest reason for staying in the race …. Publicity brings tax free cash donations to the foundation. .. And his family is the primary beneficiaries via salary and perks .. The evangelical issues the foundation supports are not helping children, poor or the sick like Jesus preaches, but instead they focus on issues of discrimination and hate …. what a sad perversion of so called morals and religion he lives.

Good. Even if he wins, the democrats can use this. A senator and the POTUS admit to molesting women/girls.
Is this the party of family values? Or maybe the democratic party is after all?

    • Strepsi

I have seen pundits saying he’ll “have to” now, but they clearly do not know him like we on JOE MY GOD do –– this asshole was removed TWICE by the Supreme Court from the bench, because he refused to follow U.S. law. He doesn’t step down, ever: he doubles down.

      • (((GC)))

And Alabamans REELECTED HIM to the bench!!!

        • Lizard

They reelected him because he broke the law, not in spite of it. In their eyes, he was a stalwart Christian standing up for their rights against the persecution of godless government.

Hebephilia and child abuse, however, doesn’t fit that bill, so I don’t think they’re necessarily relatable. Plus, senatorial races are more high-profile than judicial ones.

        • Bambino

Most importantly, if Moore wins, the GOP have little choice but to keep Jeff Sessions where he is. And because of Sessions’ recusal in the 2016 election investigations, Trump has almost no hope of firing Mueller as long as Sessions remains Attorney General. So it’s win-win-win for us.

    https://thinkprogress.org/roy-moores-wife-posted-a-letter-of-pastors-endorsing-him-but-some-pastors-say-they-werent-contacted-7e4aa3f5abcb/

“But at least four pastors have since come forward to say they did not consent to having their names included in the letter. What’s more, at least one is raising questions about whether it is an edited version of a different endorsement list used during the primaries—before the abuse allegations came to light.”

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/11/14/1715522/-Roy-Moore-s-letter-of-support-from-50-pastors-is-being-disputed-by-some-of-those-pastors

“Many of the names on the list were people that had previously supported Moore and had even signed letters of support for Moore surrounding issues like same-sex marriage.”

That Onion item is just a LITTLE too uncomfortably close to accurate.

  • Treant

Look, we already know there are two outcomes.

The Republicans will decide that power over party over country over people is going to stay the status quo, and they’ll force his win. After that, they’ll probably seat him as “the will of the People of Alabama.”

Or they’re going to decide this guy is way too toxic, in addition to his tendency to maverick and embarrass. In which case they’ll intentionally throw the election to the Dem, but steal it back in the next cycle.

I don’t think anybody actually thinks there will be a fair and honest election in Alabama.

    • Lizard

Note how they’re all “Will of the people” when it’s convenient for them, but their candidate losing the popular vote? “Too bad, bitches, EC rules!”

      • (((GC)))

Much like the various battles for equal marriage and other civil rights. Legislative and popular votes were “the will of the people”, and court rulings were “legitimate”, when they went the religious reich’s way, but when they didn’t, they were “illegitimate” on various flimsy pretexts.

        • Lizard

Indeed. We’re seeing something similar in Australia. Bigots were all for the same-sex marriage survey until they realized it wasn’t going to go their way, at which point they stated flat-out they wouldn’t honor it.

    • Phillip in L.A.

(Picard) Number One, I need a third option right away!

    • MichaelJ

There’s a third scenario, which I’d guess is the most likely: Moore stays in the race, gets elected, takes the oath of office but then gets expelled by the Senate, and the Alabama Governor, who is a Republican, appoints a “safer” choice to replace Moore. This does no damage to Republican control of Congress and removes Moore from the picture (for a little while, at least).

  • Lizard

Well, duh. He got the support he has now by openly defying the law as a state supreme court justice. Why would he obey other Republicans?

He doesn’t care about Alabama. He just wants power and the ability to spread his fundamentalism to the government.

McConnell’s nightmare will get worse than this next year. Chris McDaniel is gunning for Roger Wicker’s (R-Mississippi) senate seat. McDaniel makes Moore look downright upstanding. In his run against Cochrane he had minions slip into a nursing home and film Cochrane’s demented wife to show just who Cochrane was “cheating” on. Cochrane’s family knew the situation and didn’t bother to play “shocked”. He’s the low life that’s going to likely be on the GOP primary run-off ballot in MS next year. “As of the close of the 2014 session, every piece of legislation written by McDaniel had died in committee.” Yep, he’s a useless Y’allQueda Culture Warrior just like Roy.

The one saving grace, if you can call it that, is that this stench is sticking to the GOP like a skunks spray. It will linger, no matter how much they scrub. People are going to be reminded of how the GOP “leadership” waited until the last moment to even address this, let alone condemn it. CNN’s interviews showing the GOP lackeys excusing it will be played over and over again. The cherry on top? The Christian politician(s) who used the Nativity story as an example of how this “isn’t a big deal”, the 52 pastors who signed off on Moore and the myriad of right wingers who, through their apologetics, confirmed that for Republicans, it’s Party over Country.

True, I don’t think the GOP or the majority of republicans or libertarians will even remember it in two weeks, but I suspect those of differing tribes will and, more importantly, are already drawing the ads for 2018. Of course, they’ll only really be effective if purists can get their heads out of their asses and not help sabotage 2018 as they did in 2016.

Therein lies the problem. Reminding the willfully ignorant/racist/homophobic/intolerant of how wrong they are plays into their “victimhood caused by superior acting liberals”. Sorry, but there are and we need reinforcements, not trash talk. Jones’ numbers would be lower if there weren’t. Unfortunately in AL, just like here in MS, and LA, Democrats represent 40%± of the electorate and can get swamped in low turnout elections. Even deepest Dixie is purplish and can turn given good reasons. Since 2009 the national party has failed to support the 40% that want change and consigned us to permanent minority status. November 2016 has shaken some of that up by pissing off southerners who are tired of the GOP status quo. Thus the high profile events like the VA election and GA-6 where a Democrat hasn’t had a decent showing since Newt’s glory days. Yes, there are a LOT of GOP assholes in AL, but there are a lot of decent people too, just not enough voting. /sigh

That’s what living in a “GOP Paradise” will do. KS was actually a bit ahead of Dixie in going the all 3 branches of government GOP nightmare scenario. Right now most of the South is about 5-10 years into 1 party rule. Not long enough for the damage to become undeniable as it has in KS. The KoolAid is a bit fresher here.

I wonder if he’ll actually go away and shut up once he loses the election!!!
    Hmmm.

    • BobSF_94117

The people he grifts from will drop off, but the ones who remain will give more than ever.

      He’s set for life.

Go, Roy! with a little bit of luck, we’ll get a democrat.
But I do love it, the swamp dwelling Washington elite. That would include…why, just about EVERYIONE!
And if the people of talibama vote for you, which they probably will, that all goes to show that the party of family values is not about family and not about values. But we knew that,

It may have been a swamp in Washington before, but now it’s a goddamn sewer.

Um, Goober, you ARE the swamp.

      got a link?

It was CNN, but you probably know that by now. So discouraging. My husband got sprayed in the face with something here Thursday – we spend the nite in the hospital; went by ambulance. Just out on the street partying like everyone else and bang, fun’s over. All we could think of was how lucky we were it wasn’t a fucking gun.

        • Ben in Oakland

          I didn’t know. I don’t get cnn.

        • Ben in Oakland

Sorry to hear it. I hope he’s ok. And yes, you were lucky it wasn’t a gun. I’ve come to the conclusion that the only thing to be done about the gun nuts is to outvote them. Either we do that, or we continue to have periodic mass killings.

This crud is not newsworthy it’s poorly written soap opera crap

Let’s throw a little bit moore gasoline on that fire. Just a smidge, not moore than that.

It turns out, according to an article in the New Yorker, that our boy Roy is what moore of us would call a perv. He was banned from a mall in Talibama because of his moore great excitability around under aged girls.

    The New Yorker reports:

This past weekend, I spoke or messaged with moore than a dozen people—including a moore major political figure in the state—who told me that they had heard, over the years, that Moore had been banned from the mall because he repeatedly badgered teen-age girls. Some say that they heard this at the time, others moore in the years since. These people include five moore members of the local legal community, two moore cops who worked in the town, and several moore people who hung out at the mall in the early eighties, and a number of former mall employees.

So, what does this have to do with me, aside from the fact that I despise this man and everything he allegedly stands for? I have said many, many times on these very pages that the moore vociferously anti-gay a religious person is, the moore likely he is to be a homosexual hating homosexual, desperate to deflect attention away from themselves and moore onto other people. I have also said that those mooralizing busybodies with the darkest fanatasies about gay people were moore likely to be projecting those fanatasies upon innocent others in order to deal moore ably with their own issues, like the former regular commenter here who so obviously delighted in talking about anal sex and children in the same sentence. Over and over again, as if it maybe meant something to him.

So, now we find out what seems to be moore the truth of the matter. Four or moore women have come forward to talk moore clearly about Roy. Other people knew all about Roy, but its Talibama we’re talking about, and they were neither 10 years old nor his sister. Everything Roy had to say about Teh Geyz now has a context.

“Look over there!!! Gay SQUIRRELS! They are coming for your sons and your faith.” And pay no attention to that mooralizing busybody behind the raincoat. He’s only a hypocrite, and whatever damage he does to your faith he can still blame moore on Teh Geyz.

“The Swamp” to these fuckwits isn’t corruption or immorality. When they say “The Swamp” they mean blacks and jews.

Far worse are Moore’s fucked up religious opinions and traitorous notions that the Bible (as he reads it) trumps (sorry) the Constitution and laws. A few dribblings over ‘Bama teens pales in comparison to the scourge that this bag of shit represents, and all his followers, not to mention a majority of so-called Christians in vast wastelands like Alabama.

I have sent Judge Moore several twitter messages of support, telling him not to drop out of the race but rather to stay in and run, even if the Republicans dump him and ask people to write in someone else. I encourage everyone to do so. In fact I am hoping that will happen because a split of the Republican vote will let Jones win and that would be so amusing to see Alabama represented by a Democrat for the next 6 years.

  • Ginger Snap

The Washington elite he wants to be part of to wallow with in that swamp. What a total idiot.
