Elizabeth Warren Hits Back At Trump: You Think Your Tweets Are Cute But Your People Are Going To Jail

Esquire reports:

President Trump cannot be thrilled with the news this morning. The New York Times reported there is increasingly clear evidence that both Trump and his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, experimented with the truth when they said they knew of no one in the Trump campaign who was in contact with Russian officials during the election.

It looks more and more like they both knew George Papadopoulos, international man of mystery, had connected with the Kremlin on LinkedIn. Sessions, it appears, may have lied under oath to a Senate committee during his confirmation hearing.  It’s not the first time that’s come up, and not for the first time, the president is reacting to all these developments by thrashing around on Twitter.

  • TheManicMechanic

    She’s persisting.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Was she warned? (I mean, other than by concern trolls…)

      • TheManicMechanic

        She persisted, you’ve been Warren’d. 😉

        • Jeb

          Damn, I miss you. 😉

          • TheManicMechanic

            Ze feelink ist mootchal!

    • pablo

I still hope she runs in 2020.

  • Boreal
  • Jmdintpa

I like her and all but I think she’s mistaken. This democracy is pretty weak right now. Trumps not gonna have anything done to him and neither is Jeff sessions. The Republicans will see to that. We are screwed and it’s goi g to take massive large scale and possibly violent action to remedy the problem. Trump is a fascist. The republicans have gone full in for him. History will show you what must be done to rid ourselves of people like them.

    • Natty Enquirer

Only if the majority shares your defeated attitude.

    • ZRAinSWVA

And the DNC is especially weak right now. No coherent messaging and very little if any presence in the media. Where are they on the news? Beside a vocal few like Warren, where the hell are the rest of the democrats in expressing their outrage!?

      • another_steve

        Valid questions, ZRA.

Could be a case of “when your enemies are destroying themselves, stand back and don’t interfere.”

      • Paula Key

I think if I was a right wing Republican, I would react right now if Dems started attacking Trump. I think they should wait until the heads start to roll…and courts act…then “fake news’ will not cut it!~ Again, just my opinion.

    • another_steve

The reputable news outlets in this country (print, internet and TV) are in hyper-mode these days. They’re a’goin’ after the fucker.

Try as the Republicans might to save him, Trump’s cooked.

      Stick a fork in him.

      He’s cooked.

    • Bambino

I don’t think she actually believe it. She is just baiting the fucking moron for more twitter melt down. Who else can bring down the fucking moron other than himself? The Art of War.

    • Adam Stevens

Sorry, but we live in the 21st century, not 1860.

The media and the media alone will end the Trump presidency.

      • another_steve

^^ that that that that that

      • Leo

Yeah but which media? We’re so splintered right now that doesn’t really matter.

        • another_steve

Fox and Breitbart have low-intellect low-info viewers and readers. Neanderthals. Brutes. Bigots.

In the long run, intellect always prevails. Read a good history book and see.

It can be a long hard slog, but in the long run, intellect always prevails.

      • FAEN

They shouldn’t have helped him win to begin with.

    • WitlessProtection

We will be dealing with the fallout from 2016 for decades to come. The funny thing is that IMO Obama was the culmination of the recovery from Nixon: a strong passionate leader without any political baggage who got GOOD things done. Yes he was attacked mercilessly but there were no REAL scandals. You look back at almost every President since Nixon, they have all been weak, ineffectual leaders with scandal after scandal. Obama didn’t have that, now here we are again with Dotard, and it’s Watergate all over again. I think is the weakness of the Electoral College, look at GWB and how he “won” the election and how hard the left fought him, same thing with Trump only more so. GWB for all he was, was NOT a fascist or an egotist like Dotard is.

    • Paula Key

Disagree, but I’m a Canadian watcher. I think when sentences include ‘conspiracy against the US:’ are used, and heads start to roll thanks to FBI- many rats will jump ship. Meanwhile, all Republicans will be watching CNN, Rachael and the polls. There might even be an emergence of a ‘hero Republican’ who will take down Trump for the “Red, White and Blue.” Again, just my opinion.

  • Todd E.

Elizabeth Warren doesn’t give a shit…she does what she wants!*

*said in a honey badger tone

  • Do Something Nice

Oh, so she’s great now? It was just hours ago that everyone was bashing her over her comment about the DNC.

    • Natty Enquirer

We’re in the Colosseum, not the Forum.

    • Leo

I’m not. Don’t make blanket statements. I fully recognize she’s done great things and things out of political convenience. CFPB’s the former, the latest stunt prior to this the latter.

    • friendlynerd

Yeah her stock dropped hard with me. She wants to re-litigate extremely dead horses while there’s far more important stuff going on.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Okay, I withdraw my about-to-be-posted inquiry. TY.

    • Joseph Miceli

It boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

  • “experimenting with the truth”? How about calling it what it is, NYT?
    LYING.

  • Texndoc

I believe the top of the charts for her yesterday on Twitterverse was “Yes, she did rig the primary.”

  • HZ81

Too late, Liz. Perhaps you should figure out how the party that supported you to victories pays for those victories before shooting your mouth off and giving Dolt 45 ammo.

    • joe ho

Lost confidence in Warren’s political judgment when she gushed about how good the long vicious primary battle was for the party. Third-term elections are hard to win unless the economy is booming. Not the time for disruptive challenges from the far-left.

      • HZ81

Yeah, she lost me when she got on the stupid “drop identity politics” bandwagon. Easy to say that when your identity isn’t constantly under fire.

        • kareemachan

          Hers isn’t/wasn’t?

          • HZ81

    • Natty Enquirer

I thought it was a rather delicious understatement. Blunderbuss not always required.

      • Joe in PA

We don’t need anymore “delicious understatements”. I’m done. Call it what is is. But to your point, I doubt that any trumpanzees would be reading Esquire. Arrgh.

        • Strepsi

I agree, what we need is reporters with the balls (or, frankly, the education) to fact check in REAL TIME.

Trump: We’ve accomplished more in our first 100 days––
          Reporter: That’s not true.
Trump: The U.S. is the most heavily taxed nation–––
Reporter: That’s incorrect sir, it’s not.

The British do it, I think U.S. media is far more obsequious (and, again, a bit less well-educated) than much of the developed world.

          • canoebum

You expect a lot. Many in the media have yet to master Standard English. Expecting them to fact check on a variety of topics in real time exceeds the expectations of their publishers and is probably seen as being bad for the quarterly bottom line. I will agree there is entirely too much deference given to politicians of all stripes. In our political system it is the role of the press to keep officials honest: kick ass and take names. They’re failing.

          • Lars Littlefield

Although I’m effectively retired from a previous life where I had more contact with students in Broadcast Journalism and Print Journalism, I can attest that since the 1980s those students aspiring to work in the media are not the brightest or best educated people one could wish for.

I remember one particular student who was two semesters away from acquiring a doctorate in chemistry. He dropped everything and enrolled as an undergraduate in journalism. It was my job to ask why his sudden change in direction. He said he wanted to be a photo journalist, a war correspondent and cover conflicts all over the globe. I flippantly remarked, “Well, I hope world peace doesn’t suddenly break out. You won’t be able to find a job.”

“Yeah,” he said. “That would be bad.”

And the shit head was serious.

          • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Oh honey, I have to disagree. I was a communications and journalism graduate and I am not the stupidest… ok, ok, I’m not that smart. Your right.

          • RaygunsGoZap

            My right what?

          • Lars Littlefield

            😀

          • Joe in PA

LOL, I hope that “Your right” was deliberate. If so: I see what you did there. If not: you’re right. Ahem.

          • Librarykid

They sure are not familiar with choice spoken or written English. The things I hear and read convince me that standards for language skills are almost non-existent.

He never have to worry about getting work if he carried through with his plans.

          • JackFknTwist

I agree with you. I think US reporters tend to be on the polite side and just don’t ‘get stuck in’.
Whether that is from politeness or ,I think more likely, a fear of being thought of as aggressive or too rude, either way they fear confrontation.

Hence the politicos get away with dishing out manifest lies, and barefaced contradictions and they don’t get challenged.

Trump/turd says the most outrageous moronic c rap and gets away with it !

          • Uncle Mark

Remember when David Gregory confronted W’s press secretary, Scott McClellan on his failure to answer a question? McClellan turned this around to claiming this was an effort to make this a personal issue/engagement…and Gregory had to apologize, lest he get tossed out the D.C. Press Corps. I think a lot of reporters are afraid of getting ousted for holding someone’s feet too close to the fire.

As for the Sunday pundit shows, they have openly acknowledged that if they’re too hard on their guests, they won’t come back and others will avoid them. Gregory turned into one of those useless, light-weight pundits when he took over “Eat the Press.”

          • JackFknTwist

I remember all of the Press Corps were snivelling little yellow bellies under Bush W………they were terrified of Cheney and Rumsfeld……..They did not challenge the White House and its bellicose minions, they allowed the WMD to pass into notoriety without confronting that fake news…..and they did not do their job as a free press.
In short they were disgraceful……and i said so !

          • JackFknTwist

if the guests will not appear then f uck them ….point that out, point out that they will not answer or are too afraid. But for God’s sake do your Press duty !………….that’s how I feel…..no more stultifying politesse.

        • John30013

This is one euphemism I don’t mind, since it’s an obvious indictment of their behavior. It’s milquetoast mildisms like “untruths” and “falsehoods” that, like the passive voice, obscure the act while giving the reporter cover they don’t need.

          • Joe in PA

Oh I like it too, and it totally fits with the article and the fact that it was in Esquire…so maybe I spoke hastily. Guess I’m getting anxious. 🙂

          • John30013

I’m with you 100% on the more banal euphemisms the press routinely trot out to describe 45*s lies.

      • Robincho

        Blunderbuss & Snickasnee…

      • Bryan

It fits Sessions’ lazy Southern demeanor.

Wish they would quit experimenting with being journalists. Sometimes you have to swing the bat pretty hard to knock down the attacker.

    • GayOldLady

I’m with you brother. Experimenting with the truth is…..He Lied!

    • JackFknTwist

Follow the money – Bob Mueller.

Trump/turd hasn’t released his tax returns for a reason.
Trump/turd is completely owned by the Russians.
All of Trump/turd’s money came from Russian oligarchs.
Follow Trump/turd’s money and turd junior’s as well.

Trump/turd has never uttered a word of criticism about anything Russia has done .

  • KarenAtFOH

I second the message, but not thrilled with the messenger ATM.

  • Ninja0980

Maybe if you hadn’t opened your mouth about rigged primaries yesterday Liz Trump wouldn’t have this line of attack.

    • Lakeview Bob

What in the hell are you talking about? Line of attack? Really?

    • Bambino

She is a politician being ask a question related to current event on a news program. Is she suppose to be neutral? State her political opinion? Or avoid answering? I don’t get why anyone would reacted negatively to her responding. It was Donna Brazile that drop the info promoting her new book not Warren. Whether she is a viable candidate to run in 2020 is a whole other question.

      • elvigy

Because she claimed the DNC rigged the primary. Surely you’re not naive enough to think that wouldn’t set off a rehash of every argument that the Democrats have had about 2016?

It would have been extremely easy (in fact, it’s what I actually would have expected) to say that whatever the past problems are, we are addressing them and moving forward.

        • Bambino

Perhaps it’s what she believed. But we can’t take one statement and blanketly accused her of sabotaging the Dems. It’s the reason why voters who are tired of establishment that turn to the fucking moron, Bernie Bros and Jill sis. Warren is not one of those politician who toe the line like McCain, Ryan, McConnell and the rest of the GOP no matter how ridiculous the WH admin is getting. A politician should have an independent thought on issues but also the ability to compromise when the stakes get high.

      • GayOldLady

What she should have said was, “I’ll have to read the book and review Brazile’s comments before I comment”. The word “rigged” was a bad decision, because the election was not “rigged”. It was the exact same process that was used in 2008. The same primary elections, the same caucuses, the same convention. The only thing that might have benefited Hillary was a debate schedule, but even then a debate is a debate is a debate. We heard plenty from both Bernie and Hillary, especially Bernie who’s spiel has been the same for the past 20 years.

        • Do Something Nice

Great feminist support, telling a woman what to say.

          • GayOldLady

Really? Did I tell her to “shut her mouth”? Not hardly. You’re such a waste of protoplasm and so is the guy you voted for, Donald J. Trump.

          • Do Something Nice

See? You are a lying sack of shit. I didn’t vote for Trump and you know it.

          • GayOldLady

How do I know it. You lying sack of shit!!!!

          • Todd20036

Ok. That’s it. Do Something Nice has officially announced his Trolldom.
No one calls GOL a lying sack of shit.
            NO ONE.
I’ve had enough of your Bernie bro apologies, your both sidesisms and now, your direct insult of GOL who commented on your misogynistic comment which you then edited.
I’ve had enough of you, you worthless fucking, Nazi enabling misogynist.
Get the fuck off of my screen.

            Flagged and blocked

          • kareemachan

Evidently, I figured this out whenever, and DSN is blocked to me. Sounds like I made the right decision.

          • GayOldLady

I called him a “lying sack of shit” back. I don’t normally talk like that to other commenters, but I stepped over my own red line on this occasion.

          • Todd20036

Yeah, the fact that he got under your skin that much was enough to tell me he had nothing else to say that I ever wanted to hear.

          • GayOldLady

Why did you just change your comment from telling women to “shut up” to “telling a woman what to say”? You’re a jerk!!!!

          • Do Something Nice

I edited my comment before anyone commented.

          • GayOldLady

            Sure you did!

          • GayOldLady

“shut her mouth” was your initial comment to me.

        • Joseph Miceli

With all due respect, I will point out that there are actual, factual and recorded instances of Hillary’s campaign staff and Hillary campaign offices overlapping the DNC’s. In other words, DNC workers ran the Hillary campaign from their DNC locations.
Now, that may not be “rigging the primary” but it is unethical. It was also really stupid.
Was the primary rigged? Well, I have no proof. I “feel” that Hillary was inevitable. I “feel” that Bernie was given the short straw. How I “feel,” though is not evidence and Donna Brazil hasn’t given any real evidence either.
I can let it go, I really can…if everyone else would just stop rehashing it!

      • TK

Rigged is a loaded word. The primaries were not rigged. She could have gotten to the point about what a mess the DNC is without playing into the hands of a thirsty media. Rigged is Trump’s term that he repeated every day during the campaign.

She got played and fell right in.

        • Todd20036

Which alone shows she really isn’t that qualified to campaign for POTUS.

          • kareemachan

            So… who do you suggest?

          • Todd20036

Not sure yet. But if Warren can be that easily baited, she would lose a debate against Twitler or even Pence.

          • robindaybird

            Khamala Harris for one

          • Stubenville

Compared to the loser we ended up with? Surely you jest.

          • Todd20036

I said “campaign for POTUS”, not be the POTUS.
            ANd don’t call me Shirley.

        • Bambino

We accused the Bernie Bros and Jillian Sis of holding their pious purity test that tanked Hillary’s chance. Some of us are doing the same thing against Elizabeth Warren. It seems to escape some that the country is facing the most corrupted regime in the White House and the GOP controlled congress, not to mention soon to be SCOTUS. The whole nation centuries old democracy is hanging by a thread at the mercy of Mueller investigation but god forbid Elizabeth Warren said the DNC was rigged!!! It’s Hillary’s emails all over again! If the gender bias is not a big reason enough, the fucking moron constant call her Pocahontas certainly added a layer of racism to give the self-labelled liberals some added ammunition to keep an excellent senator by today standard defeated.

      • Do Something Nice

Because of the orthodoxy. We have been instructed that we must accept anti-abortion candidates because it is what we have to do to win, but anyone who doesn’t march in lockstep with the Clintonistas or anyone who is more left than center is ostracized, ridiculed and discarded.

Oh, and any criticism will be met with screams of Bernibot, regardless if the person is a Bernibot or not, and ironically that now includes Brazile.

        • Todd20036

Clinton wasn’t anti abortion. And the criticism isn’t with who you voted for, it’s with the fact that come 2020, you’ll not vote for the democrat because he/she isn’t perfect enough, so the Nazi will win.
And you’re too stubborn to see that.

          • Do Something Nice

I voted for Clinton. I’d vote for her again if given the same choice.

This is exactly why independents are fleeing the party. I disagree with Clinton but voted for her. But nutcases like you accuse me of not voting for her and not voting for the Democrat in future elections.

I never wrote that Clinton is anti-abortion.

      • PeterC

But, but she agreed with Brazil. Good Grief !

      • Pluto Animus

Politicians know how to handle such questions, or at least they should. Warren could easily have said:

“Listen, I respect Donna Brazile’s opinion, but it’s almost 2018 and I’m not going to re-litigate last year’s election, that’s for the historians to sort out. Donald Trump is an elected official, and he should be focusing on his duties and responsibilities, like I’m trying to do in my capacity as a Senator, rather than either one of us constantly rehashing an election that took place a full year ago. The news media may want to hype division in the Democratic Party, but we are moving forward together to unite as best we can to defeat the agenda of Trump and his fellow Republicans.”

Seriously, Warren should be able to do this stuff in her sleep by now.

      • Gerry Fisher

        > Is she suppose to be neutral?

Oh, come on. You’ve never seen a politician dodge a question designed to be a hand grenade? It’s politics 101.

        • robindaybird

There’s a reason why Politicians refuse to engage questions like ‘Have you stopped beating your wife?’, loaded questions are to be dodged, because answering them implies a legitimacy to them.

    • FAEN

Yes-I was disappointed to hear that to say the least.

    • Joseph Miceli

LOL, yes it’s Elizabeth Warren’s fault that the Dems held a coronation instead of a primary and that Donald Trump has the gall to call anyone else out for a lack of ethics. You go run with that ball of bullshit, see how far you get. –

  • crewman

I do think the DNC did an injustice to Sanders and his supporters. I will say upfront, I supported Hillary. At the time, there was concern that a 3rd party challenge from the left would give Trump an easy win, even without Russia’s help. It probably would have. Someone, I don’t know who, came up with the idea to have Sanders run as a Democrat, so there would be one winner, him or Hillary, to compete against Trump.
This was a good plan on its surface, and we should all be grateful that agreement was reached. But then Clinton and DNC didn’t seem to play fair. If they were going to go along with the plan, they should have competed on ideas, and let it play out as it played out. If Clinton couldn’t honestly win there, then it should have been Sanders. I care about integrity and want to support a party that takes the high road, even if it does not always give them what they want. I like Warren and Obama so much because of their integrity. That’s what we need more of in the DNC.

All this being said, I really don’t think Sanders could have even come close to winning the country. It’s sad to say, but I just don’t think he would have played well in the general.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I don’t want either Clinton or Sanders to run. I want a clean slate for 2020.

      • Stephen Elliot Phillips

        Hillary wont run again.

      • safari

The best way to ensure that is to join the party at the local level.

    • Bambino

I thought power wrestling within a political party is normal. It’s not restricted to just the DNC or even the GOP. It happens in any corporate culture even within the labor unions. Not saying its morally acceptable rather its inevitable when you put a group of people who crave for power within an institution.

    • FAEN

I’m just tired of Bernie being portrayed as a saint and Hillary as the spawn of Satan.

      • Joseph Miceli

Funny, I’m tired of the opposite. Also, people thinking that “Bernie Bros” are an actual thing still.

        • FAEN

Hey hottie pants! Just to clarify I’ve never thought Hillary was a saint but when it came down to her and Voldemort she was clearly and by far the better choice.

I have never nor will I understand the thinking of some of the Bernie bro’s whose thought process was “Hillary is untrustworthy and dirty so I refuse to vote for her but I’ll vote for Trump who is MORE untrustworthy and dirty.” Talk about fucking morons IMHO.

          • robindaybird

PSSST it’s because Trump and Bernie both have penises and are telling ’em minorities to shut up and and let the white men talk.

          • Joseph Miceli

I agree. I just think that this continuous rehashing of an election we lost is ridiculous. The Bernie Bros are no more a thing now than the PUMA’s are…but they are a convenient whipping boy for Dems who are easily led by Putin’s propaganda. Think on this: who benefits by this continuous strife in our party? Putin and his cohorts laugh every time someone brings up “Bernie Bros” and “purity tests.” We are playing right into his hands. Time to move on.

    • Stubenville

Agreed about a Sanders / Trump contest; it would have devolved to something as stupid as how hot Trump’s wife is compared to how plain Sanders’ is. Seriously.

I also objected to the apparent “coronation of Hillary”, but I have to wonder if Sanders had not been a player, if she would have ultimately prevailed against Trump.

      • robindaybird

Honestly, lot of it is Sanders shooting himself in the foot by not supporting down-ticket races, and blowing off non-economic issues as ‘Identity Politics’.

  • Leo

Liz will not win in 2020, so let’s get THAT debate out of the way.

    • Lakeview Bob

So how many discus accounts do you have?

      • Leo

Just one. I live in Virginia and I’m not a bot. Joe can back me up on that with IP location. Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or sincere.

If you want a debate let’s have it. Grow up please.

        • Silver Badger

          Poe’s law strikes again.

I’ve seen you here before so you’re just deliberately trolling instead of engaging.

I hate having a persecution complex but why I specifically and maybe about 4-5 other ppl on this board seem to attract people like you and those with inflated ego’s (like that guy that said i was doing too many OT’s on my post with the UVA rally that got a lot of attention) is beyond me.

            Must be doing something right.

  • Lars Littlefield

Warren’s tweets are cute and all that. But she needs to understand that bickering among fellow Democrats does nothing for her “brand” and isn’t good for the Democratic Party. By all means, she should continue to put on her Super X Woman suit and fight for America, but please stop her from running for president. Back someone younger with progressive views who has a real chance of winning rather than expecting the party to accept the the baggage she seem’s hell bent on accumulating,

    • Bambino

We should all keep an eye on viable candidates but the biggest focus should be on how Mueller investigation can bring down the traitors. The restoration of democracy is more important. Otherwise you might have the most perfect candidate that voter suppression laws and the Russian hackers will prevent real Americans from electing.

      • Lars Littlefield

I’d vote for Jerry Brown. He’s done a good job of running the sixth largest economy in the world for the last eight years. But why would he want to take a job with less responsibilities?

        • Chucktech

So, we shouldn’t support Warren because she’s 68 years old, but you’d support Jerry Brown even though he’s 79?

          • Lars Littlefield

We’ll remove his brain and put it in an android. By the way, the reason I don’t support Warren for president has nothing to do with her age. I think she should remain a Senator as long as she is effective. It has nothing to do with age. It has everything to do with her not being progressive enough to lead the party. She’s my age. The Dems need a serious infusion of new, well-educated thinkers who don’t see the world and fellow humans as resources for simple exploitation.

          • Chucktech

You just said, above, that we should find someone younger than Warren, but you’d support Brown, who’s much older than she, that’s what I’m saying.

          • Lars Littlefield

Yep. I did. But Warren is old progressive, like the progressives of the 1960s. Not a bad thing to be, but not exactly exemplary. She’s a law professor who didn’t accomplish much outside her field of professional expertise as an advisor until her election to the Senate in 2012. Compare her accomplishments, especially laws sponsored and enacted, to Jerry Brown’s record. Read up on what Governor Moon Been has done and is still doing. He’s a modern progressive who has pretty pretty much kicked ass against climate deniers and refuses to let them change the narrative. Intellectually he’s much younger and much fresher than the polite lady from New England. He would have taken the Pocahontas crack dished out by Trump as an opportunity to shove it up Trump’s ass, embarrass him and shut him up. Warren’s to nice. Moon Beam’s entire career since an undergraduate at UC Berkeley has consisted of crashing through conservative and extreme right positions on education, the EPA, corporate rape of natural resource, and he’s a successful protector of voter’s rights. He accomplished more in his first term as governor in 1974. Warren’s work on oversight committees and advisory role on TARP has been pretty much dismantled. She’s no warrior. She’s an old lady. A nice old lady, but not a strong leader. Brown is still kicking ass and will continue to do so when he leaves office. While most progressives bemoan what Trump has done and continues to do dismantling regulations, Brown has found ways to hold them together under California state law. Yeah, he’s 89 years-old but he’s a raging eternal teenager in the progressive movement. He’s actually organized, motivated, and helped progressive causes in California to stuff and achieve real social progress. Warren? Not so much. I like Warren, but she needs to do more to impress me that she would be a good choice as a candidate for president. When it comes to getting shit done, Brown still has the enthusiasm and energy of a very young man. It might have something to do with him never having had children. Don’t know. But I much prefer Brown over Warren. Warren’s just a bit too dowdy of a progressive. She certainly hasn’t the chops to deal with Trump. However, I’m certain there are women in the Dem party who can and possibly will.

    • Gerry Fisher

She does two things particularly well. She puts “the need to pay taxes and the need for richer people to pay more taxes” into plain language that the average voter can understand, and she does it without resorting to Bernie-isms that feel like over promising. The other thing she does well is that she grills financial industry players in committee hearings. I agree that her age is a concern, and she may not be as progressive as you like, but these two skills are considerable and important.

      • Lars Littlefield

I agree. But she’s much more effective as a senator than a president. And as a leader among the Dems in congress she should know better than to react in such a way that makes the party look weak.

Call me paranoid but it seems to be the age of subterfuge.

    • Tread

Because. The trolls have Google alerts set up to notify when key phrases pop up to know where to go to do the most damage. A lot of gray square, two-first-names newbies showed up in the past couple of days.

    • The_Wretched

I’m very skeptical of anyone with a low post count – especially when they comment on the ‘left infighting’ stuff. I’m convinced most are agitator trolls.

    • unsavedheathen

I’m not a new voice here and to answer your question…

I share your suspicions re: some commenters here, but beyond the trolls obviously taking delight in Democratic infighting, they’re are quite a few lifelong Dems/liberals/progressives here who cannot voice what we believe to be legitimate criticism of the Democratic party and more specifically its 2016 nominee without being attacked by what I refer to as the Hive. Over the last almost two years when I and others would try to draw attention to the obvious bias of the party for one candidate, I was shouted down rather vehemently. I was a fantasist, a fool, a child, a misogynist, a bro… you know the list.

Facts recently have come to light that support many points that I tried to make here. A hero of the left, Elizabeth Warren, has flatly and publicly said as much. I hope you’ll forgive me but I do take some measure of satisfaction from this and will drop a few comments for fun. I’m no saint

I’ve been a registered Democrat since I turned 18 in 1980. This is my party too.

      • marshlc

        OK, so about that “Hive”.

What would you have those who disagree with you do, if many others have also disagreed with you? Should they just shut up, because to voice their opinion would be seen as piling on?

This is an issue that comes up a lot in internet discussion, not just this subject, not just politics. Someone says something that many others think is wrong, and then complains about being attacked by the hive mind, or being piled on, of being shouted down, or even (inexplicably, to me, because there they are, posting away) of being silenced.

We all get to comment here. If a lot of people disagree with a post, that’s all it is, just a lot of people disagreeing. It doesn’t mean you don’t get to have your say, it just means that others don’t agree with what you are saying. It seems to me that they have as much right to disagree with you as you have to post in the first place. Each one of us is only one voice.

If you can come up with a solution to this, I’d be happy to hear it. But some version of “I don’t want a bunch of people to disagree with me” isn’t a solution. And that’s what it seems to me that accusations of a Hive are.

        • unsavedheathen

My intent was not to say, “poor me”. I was trying to explain why you might be seeing unfamiliar names commenting on this topic. People who grew tired of being disparaged by the majority here return when they feel vindicated.

  • dbishop75

How was the choice for Hillary by the DNC rigged? Sanders was an Independent, the DNC had no reason to select him unless they really thought he could beat trump.
Anyone remember when trump threatened to run as an independent?

    • safari

Shh. People don’t realize the DNC and RNC are semi-private groups.

      • GayOldLady

In truth the DNC doesn’t even have to run a primary. They could literally just choose a candidate and go to convention with that candidate who then selectd a VP and give the nomination to the chosen candidate. But the process of debates and campaign events and rallies pulls people in and dollars in and that’s how you get elected in the USA.

        • safari

And before ’68 the GOP was the same way. The DNC compromised between the old and new ways by allowing for a primary election (rather than just a caucus) and retaining super delegates as a check.

It is depressing that everyone that caused the result of the 2016 election, has not learnt from the mistakes they made, and are already repeating the same actions…

It is like the media, and a certain small yet sadly significant faction of the “left” are trying to get the GOP to maintain House majority with the 2018 midterms, as well as get Donnie a second term and maintain senate majority in 2020!!!

    • unsavedheathen

It is depressing that everyone that caused the result of the 2016 election, has not learnt from the mistakes they made, and are already repeating the same actions…

It is like a fairly significant faction of the “left” stamped their feet and against all reputable polling data, demanded that we nominate the one person on the planet who could have possibly lost to the amoral, dyslexic fascist now in the WH. Then when that backfires cataclysmically, they take nothing from their complete misjudgment of the electorate, project all blame on the faction that warned them of their folly and label honest self-examination as heresy.

Donnie so much needs to be repeatedly slapped in the face with the facts and not allowed to wriggle away from them by changing the subject. The dick just can’t accept that the investigation(s) will continue until their conclusions no matter what diversionary stunt he pulls. Donnie, for whatever reason, thinks that if people are talking about or FUX News is reporting on something else that it somehow interrupts Bob Mueller. Not so, baby. The investigations continue quietly in the background and then, one by one, the shoes start dropping.

  • Gianni

“experimented with the truth” – such a silly-assed expression. Does that somehow make the lies and Sessions’ perjury more palatable? Use good old plain English, it makes the point clearly and unquestionably – liars, lied, perjury – get it? Don’t be pussy-footing around these lying-ass dirtbags!
