SNL Reacts To Las Vegas Massacre [VIDEO]

Mediaite reports:

Country singer Jason Aldean opened Saturday Night Live following the Las Vegas Massacre that took place at his concert.

“This week, we witnessed one of the worst tragedies in American history,” Aldean began. “Like everyone, I’m struggling to understand what happened that night and how to pick up the pieces and start to heal.”

Aldean went on to perform a cover of “I Won’t Back Down” by legendary rocker Tom Petty, who passed away earlier this week.

Salon reports:

In the wake of the Las Vegas shooting “Saturday Night Live” took on the nation’s gun control debate during its “Weekend Update” segment, featuring co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che.

“For every gun you trade in, we give you one-half inch of penis enlargement. That’s fair,” Che joked. “If you trade in ten guns, you get five more inches.”

He added, “And if women want to trade in their guns: Don’t. Keep your guns. You’re probably going to need them to fight off all those men in spandex showing off their brand new eight-inch penises.

It figures. I get rid of cable and SNL gets decent for the first time in decades.

    Loved Kate McKinnon as RBG!

    • jimbo65

No over the air HD antenna? I flirt with cutting the cord. If I do I think I’ll at least get the HD antenna.

      • greenmanTN

I tried that, not a very expensive one because I don’t watch a lot of TV, but it didn’t work well. A Roku box and individual subscriptions seems a better solution IMO.

        • PlayStation Vue on the Apple TV also gets us access to the NBC, ABC, CBS apps, as well as Fox Sports, ESPN, and a tone of other programming. Not missing that damn Spectrum cable box at all.

      • Del Sam

I dropped my cable and went antenna. Got an Over The Air Tivo box so I could still record what I want and skip through the commercials. No regrets at all. No longer having a $100 cable bill is so nice.

    • Daveed_WOW

That’s what YouTube is for. You can skip the dull bits.

    • JCF

      She was awesome!

We need to regulate guns in the same way we regulate cars/drivers. People need to be licensed. Guns must be registered. Liability insurance is required. Etc.

    • Vira

Same for ammo purchases. Background checks, licensing, liability insurance……

      LOL! That was great.

Silly sketch, but dang, that kiss Gal Gadot gave Kate (3:55) – yikes! Gal seemed pretty damned into it (and who could blame her)!

  • Joe in PA

    Kate McKinnon FTW!

Trump would toss paper towels into the crowd to mop up the blood, then blame the victims for not doing enough to save themselves.

May I live to dance on his grave.

“Anybody who needs more than six dildos is probably training for something awful.”

    More like awesome!

  • royinhell

Ironic that they used Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” because music guest Sam Smith was forced to give Petty co-writing credit for basically stealing that song as his “Stay With Me.”

    • M Jackson

You’re right, I totally missed that connection last night. I thought the Petty song choice was poignant, and I respect Aldean but he could have done a better job singing it.

      • John30013

Yes, he sounded consistently flat. Not what I expected from a country music star of his apparent acclaim. (I don’t follow him at all, as I’m not much of a fan of country music.)

    • JCF

      I thought of that too!

Talk about a “works in theory”:

    1. Jason Aldean, on stage in Vegas at time of shooting
    2. Doing a tribute, using the music of Tom Petty who died this week

…but “Stand Your Ground”??? Like THAT so-called principle hasn’t resulted (I’m betting) in even MORE gunshot victims than Las Vegas did???

Oy vey, talk about something that wasn’t thought through (and/or I’m betting because no one on the SNL staff had the guts to confront what I bet was Aldean’s choice: no, not THAT song!)

    • johnnybc

I’m willing to bet that the choice of the song was a group think.
For what it’s worth, Petty wrote the song in response to a fan burning down his (petty’s) house.

  • JCF

I like Sam Smith’s voice—and I particularly liked the second song (I bet I’m one of the few here who did! 😉 )

OK, gotta say it though: his pronunciations (though I think he tries to hide it) made me think of this:

  • JCF

Hey Gal: EAT SOMETHING why don’t you!

  • leastyebejudged

Roseanne Cash is so far the only country artist I have any respect for at all.

The rest of them can go fuck their complicit selves.
