Extremist Hate Groups Issue Joint Letter Demanding That Media Ceases Using The SPLC’s Hate Groups List

From the far-fight site Newsbusters:

Conservative leaders are calling out the liberal media for a dangerous hypocrisy: While media outlets readily promote an organization locating conservative and faith-based organizations on a “hate map,” they would never do the same for a map of abortion providers.

On Wednesday, 47 conservative leaders and organizations demanded that news outlets immediately halt their use of Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) data. Composed by the Family Research Council and signed by Media Research Center President Brent Bozell, the leaders published an open letter to the media detailing why outlets should stop referencing the “attack dog of the political left” while reporting.

“The SPLC is a discredited, left-wing, political activist organization that seeks to silence its political opponents with a ‘hate group’ label of its own invention and application that is not only false and defamatory,” the leaders challenged, “but that also endangers the lives of those targeted with it.”

Brent Bozell is most famous for calling President Obama a “skinny ghetto crackhead.” Also signing onto the letter are Tony Perkins, Sandy Rios, Austin Ruse, Tim Wildmon, Mat Staver, Joseph Farah, Pamela Geller [photo], Christopher Doyle, Andrea Lafferty, and other crackpots mostly known for opposing the civil rights of anybody who isn’t a white heterosexual Christian.

  • Gustav2

Awww, their widdle feels are hurt when you call them out.

    • Tawreos

Sometimes I almost feel guilty that I enjoy seeing their feels get hurt, then I remember what hateful shits they are and it puts a smile right back on my face.

      • Uncle Mark

I was brought up Catholic. We ate, drank, and showered in guilt. I have no guilt in delighting in these bigots being called out. It’s a lifestyle they’ve freely chosen

  • Tawreos

They never have any reason why they shouldn’t be on a hate group list beyond we don’t like it. Maybe they should explain exactly why they said the hateful shit that landed them on the list in the first place. It would be nice to see them admit to being greedy fuckers that scare people into giving them money.

    • Gustav2

And didn’t they just whine this a few weeks ago to no avail?

      • Tawreos

They will keep on whining about it as long as it hurts their fundraising ability.

    • Uncle Mark

These childish fuckers would blame Yelp for giving them bad reviews, instead of actually addressing the complaints

  • Treant

Dream on, bigot dudes. Dream on.

  • Chucktech

DEMAND?? Who the fuck do you think you fuckers are? Demand or else WHAT?

    Fuck off.

    • Gustav2

Judge not lest ye be judged…oh wait.

      • Chucktech

Pfft. Where’d you dig THAT up?

          • Chucktech

Yeah, but then Jeezy wakes up and floats up to heaven, so it’s all good.

          • Did he? Or did the old man say that to make his fan club await his return after the body was buried in some cloud?

          • Jefe5084

I’ll bet all of those people he said that to are long dead, dead, dead. Just a hunch. That was over 2000 years ago. Just a hunch.

          • JCF

Of course a hate group argues against being denounced. Bad guys rarely think they’re bad guys. The worse they are they more morally outraged they are at the suggestion that they are anything other than saints, and the more they rail at the messenger, i.e. the media.

  • Tempus Fuggit

dangerous hypocrisy: While media outlets readily promote an organization locating conservative and faith-based organizations on a “hate map,” they would never do the same for a map of abortion providers.

Hey! Yeah! And they would never do the same for a map of gumball machines, which is the EXACT. SAME. THING.

    • Todd20036

They should, however, put flying avocados on the list.

      • Tawreos

They are dangerous, but I am not sure that they are hateful, plus if you catch them they are delicious.

        • Tatonka

God help us all if they fly into a lime tree.

          • Tawreos

That is where they are trying to fly to.

      mmmm, gumball machine map…

  • boobert

Why? Because it exposes your hatred?

    • Gustav2

Not really, it is because the listing hurts fundraising.

      • Todd20036

Really? I thought haters liked being called haters.

        • Gustav2

          Only on Breitbart.

          • Nowhereman

Yeah, they’re real tuff guys over there…

          • kareemachan

For tuff guys they sure get butthurt a lot.

      • To be specific…it puts corporate donors at risk of boycotts and bad publicity if they give those groups money.

  • JoeMyGod
    • Chucktech

      …just can’t STAND that n****r in the White House…

      • Meanwhile those of us not racists saw them as the most hip and stylish first family since the Kennedys.

        • Nowhereman

          Gracious, too.

        • Jefe5084

in my opinion Michelle Obama had a much warmer, engaging personality than Jackie K. Don’t shoot me for saying that.

    • Uncle Mark

That’s their problem they only saw the black President, and their prejudice requires them to believe that all blacks are crackheads; they didn’t pay attention to anything he said or did. They did the same with Trump. They see a rich, “successful,” white guy, but haven’t paid attention to anything he says or does…or they have chosen to ignore what he says or does

      • Nowhereman

And they ALL ignored the fact that he is half white and was raised mostly by his white mother and grandparents. Of course in their book, being born of mixed race parents is probably worse. I keep thinking that all racists should go get their DNA done. No matter how “white” they think they are, they most likely have more than “one drop” of black blood and so by their own book, they too are black.

  • ByronK

So organizations that actually endanger the lives of others are having a meltdown and accusing an organization that identifies their heinous activities of endangering their lives? Whaaaa?

  • bkmn
  • bambinoitaliano

A simple solution is to stop hating you dumb bitch!

    About themselves.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Being called a “hate group’ is so horrible, but calling us the child molesters, rapists, evil, worth of prison and death is totes cool huh?

    • popebuck1

Don’t forget eternal torment. They seem to like that part best of all.

      • Reality.Bites

I think their idea of heaven probably involves field trips to Hell in climate-controlled suits to torment the residents.

      • Uncle Mark

What about those souls, who are into the whole BDSM. Would hell be their heaven? I’ll save that question for Fr. What-A-Waste when I next go to Confession

      • JCF

For the Hard-Core: “eternal conscious torment in the Lake of Fire”: when I was doing my research on varieties of religion in Central Pennsylvania, this was an actual citation of one Fundy group’s faith-statement. Just so we heathen (and I, Episcopalian, am considered as bad if not WORSE than any atheist) know: there’s no passing out from the pain!

  • Uncle Mark

How strange. Blatant bigots actually HATE being called “bigots.” Why knew?

  • Lumpy Gaga

    Yeah, so… maps.

  • Paula

That one’s human suit has jowls. Pretty damned scary. You’d think the aliens would consult someone and have better quality control.

  • Bj Lincoln

“abortion providers” are legal and don’t lie about others repeatedly. If they would just read how and why the SPLC decides on who earns a Hate Group designation, they would understand. As we all know, the filters between worlds turn everything backwards so they don’t get it.

    • boatboy_srq

You want them to read. That’s adorable.

Next you’ll expect them to think.

If they read anything besides Teh Buk (in the Original Ahmurrrrcan Inglish As Dictated By Gun-toting Capitalist White Jeebus, naturally), and they used the faculties given to them, they wouldn’t be on SPLC’s list in the first place.

    • Nowhereman

They really don’t understand much of anything. If they really want off the list then they can stop being hateful.

    • Duh-David

“Why should I dry off? You should change the definition of the word ‘wet.'”

  • Tomcat

Hate groups do not control the media with exception of FOX.

    • Todd20036

Fox isn’t really media, it’s more like one long talk show and gossip hour.

  • RaygunsGoZap

if you are being defamed and your life is endangered, there are legal remedies available to you. Take your case to a court. I mean, most of you bitches are lawyers, right?

    • Jonathan Smith

      yes, but bad one’s

      • Tawreos

They could probably be good lawyers, but the bible isn’t considered a law book in any jurisdiction under the constitution.

        • Jonathan Smith

        • Nowhereman

      • pj

        trump university school of law.

    • Natty Enquirer

      D. James Kennedy Ministries is already suing SPLC (plus Amazon and GuideStar) over the hate map.

      • Bj Lincoln

The map is FACTUAL. There is nothing they can do about it.

    • There is a court case by religiously affiliated groups. It would have been a fail but Maajid Nawaz has joined the suit and their attack on him is based on nothing. They are probably going to lose and damage their credibility.

      • David L. Caster

        Go on…

  • Rebecca Gardner

Aww…Poor little (to use their derogatory terminology) Snowflakes.
Speaking of snowflakes, looks like fuel for the “War on Christmas/Christians” crowd has been added to the fire.

Survey: White Christians are now a minority of US population

    • Tomcat

If they are now a minority shouldn’t we, in their own words, stop doing what they want?

      • Jefe5084

Yes. And we should be passing laws against them. /s

    • Bj Lincoln

They are afraid of being a minority because we might treat them the way they treat us. I’m all for shaming.

  • Jonathan Smith
  • worstcultever

Fuck these assholes. Btw the SPLC is more respected and robust than ever.

Oh, and here’s Randy R’s very excellent latest – he presses “Danke Schoen” into service

  • Tomcat

And I bet the haters of the right do not mind the list of liberal hate groups being put out.

    • Jonathan Smith

actually, no. Hate is Hate. we just have less of ’em

  • WitlessProtection

I seem to recall not too long ago they were pleased to be on this list!

    • Jonathan Smith

but now it’s affecting their fundraising

      • Tomcat

And THAT is a great sign of things to come.

  • Gigi

I remember Tony Perkins and the FRC clucking about how happy they were to be included on the SPLC’s list of hate groups, until they weren’t. Then they cried persecution and issued the standard “don’t be intolerant of our intolerance” whine.

    • boatboy_srq

It’s always a badge of honor until it hits their bottom line.

  • margaretpoa

Pretty sure the SPLC only designates groups that hate as hate groups. Don’t wanna be called a hater? Stop hating.

  • Rebecca Gardner
    • Tomcat

They are going to love that tight little ass in prison.

      • Nowhereman

        Rape joke? Really?

        • olandp

I don’t think it is a joke, just a statement of fact.

    • That reminds me time for my pills again especially the anti-depressant.

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

        Sharing is caring

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

      The fuck ?!

  • Unfortunately (and for reasons not yet fully explained) SPLC decided to toss aside their longstanding credibility and target Maajid Nawaz whose only ‘crime’ is being an ex-Muslim. I used to trust their judgment but now I have to question their assertions that certain groups are “hate groups”. And he will likely win his lawsuit against them (and should) which will further damage their credibility. Everyone involved in that misguided decisions should be fired and an apology issued to Nawaz. I hate to see this happen to an important group, but they brought this on themselves.

    • Tawreos

Sadly, no group is without mistakes and I agree that some like Nawaz should have their designation double checked.

    • Adam King

I agree this was a grievous error, but it’s not a reason to discredit their work in general.

      • It damages their credibility as far as I’m concerned. They could minimize that damage by reversing this decision. Their refusal to do so makes me question how many other bad calls they have made.

    • Natty Enquirer

I agree that SPLC took a popular but misguided stance against Nawaz and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. However, I’m not ready to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

    • Tomcat

I will wait for the courts to hash this one out.

    • DrewTwoFish

Would he call himself an ex-Muslim? Or a progressive Muslim? Just wondering.

  • Natty Enquirer

The reason they are whining instead of suing is that SPLC’s list is obviously a statement of opinion and thus not defamation.

    • swimboy

Are you sure about that? They state objective criteria for being on the list and provide evidence of the groups’ behavior of meeting those criteria. Doesn’t sound like an opinion to me.

      • Natty Enquirer

The evidence they publish could be the subject of a defamation action if it is false. But not the conclusion which they draw.

  • Lars Littlefield

Early this morning on our flight back home we were trying to sleep as much of the 3.5 hour flight as possible. But we were kept awake by a 50ish-year-old man and his elderly mother sitting directly behind us. They argued nonstop about how the son had a stronger testimony of Christ and the gospel than his siblings. The annoyance factor reached a peak when he started complaining about others in his family for tolerating homosexuals and libtards. This mother and son act didn’t even bother to lower their voices. It was obvious they were proudly parading their “faith’ so others could hear how Jesus-like they were.

My long-time romantic interest got out of his seat to use the lavatory, or so I thought. Instead, he confronted the loving, charitable christians behind us by loudly asking, “Are all Christians like you? Or are you just special?” Once he was sure he had got their attention he trundled off to pee. That pretty much shut them up for the rest of the flight.

When he came back to his seat I grabbed both of his hands and proposed marriage.

    • Jonathan Smith

      did he say yes?

    • Chucktech

Great story, but what I hear is that if your SO didn’t have to go pee, this would have carried on the entire flight. I can guarantee you, in no uncertain terms, had I had that going on behind me I would have shut them up a lot sooner. Probably would have had US Marshalls waiting for me at the jetway after landing, but gawd would that feel good.

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

OK, here’s an idea … if you want to get off the SPLC’s Harte Groups List all you have to do is stop being hateful.

  • justme

Snow flakes every where are melting all over this!!

  • Cuberly

“While media outlets readily promote an organization locating conservative and faith-based organizations on a “hate map,” they would never do the same for a map of abortion providers.”

And the award for Hysterically Searching for a Parallel Where There is None, goes to!….

    • David L. Caster

It’s the usual blatantly insidious false analogy so prevalent in hater rhetoric.

      • Cuberly

Ever since Donnie won I they’ve ramped up the propagandist theme claiming they’re representative of a majority. That everyone agrees with them. And yep, that’s not the case.

        • David L. Caster

What I find so disturbing is the non sequiturs and false analogies are completely ignored except for their value in reinforcing the prejudices of the ignorant.

That bit you quoted is a nearly perfect example. The entirety of the sentence is nonsense. There is no connection between the various things mentioned in it. It conveys no coherent, credible, or fact-based argument whatsoever. Somehow though, there is a subset of the population it will mean something to.

The mindlessness of such blather is breathtaking.

          • Cuberly

Excellent point. The language of misplaced fury, the indoctrinated comprehend it, when in actuality there’s nothing to comprehend outside of the word ABORTION being mentioned. The trigger that enrages is all that matters.

Mindless, misplaced, breathtaking blather…..EXACTLY! Rather frightening isn’t it.

          • David L. Caster

Indeed, it is. Even more frightening is that a significant fraction of the population, ripe for picking by these con men and frauds, is thoroughly taken in my it. The rise of Trumplandia should come as no surprise.

          • Cuberly

One of the podcasts I listen to. “Cognitive Dissonance”, sometimes delves into religio-speak. They break it down into it’s component parts, basically every single time it means nothing of consequence or deep meaning outside of certain words being used to court the sad sad listeners. Sort of a verbal version of self-affirming SQUIRREL!

“Ah don knOw whut teh hek it meanz butt, JEBUS!”

          • David L. Caster

And it’s not just the religious zealots, it’s the entire political framework that surrounds and re enforces this kind of thinking, or rather, mindlessness.

            Jefferson was right:

“The cornerstone of democracy rests on the foundation of an educated electorate.” —Thomas Jefferson

  • Xuuths

Ha Ha Haaaaa, so sad you don’t like it, your widdow fee-fees getting hurt.

  • Gregory B

Caitlyn Jenner and Pam Geller look like twins. Creepy…

    • Xuuths

You could have left off “look like twins” . . .

      • Gregory B

Too right. Either way, I still get the creeps.

  • northern_neighbour

When all these so very not in the least bit Christian, “Christian” spokes-bigots wail and scream and rant about the supposedly “discredited” SPLC list of “Christian” hate groups, …
they are just ramping up their rage filled hate centres, boiling over to the frothing at the mouth point of ” moral (LOLZ) indignation”.

But hey! Fuck them all …. let them writhe and scream!

All the non- white supremacist male segments of society, (majority) have no fucks left to give. Sorry Tony, Pamela, Matt, Joseph, Sandy, various Bri (y) -ans, Tim, Austin, Scott L. and all the (usual suspect list) of the rest of your toxic ILK!

You dangerous racist, misogynist, homophobic religious nutcase fanatics are IMPOTENT at the core of your “broken” beings, and will remain so.

    But FUCK OFF already, motherfuckers.

  • Luther Kreiger

    “Stop factually describing us!”

  • zhera

Pam Geller is one of the hateful extremists who turned the Norwegian loser Breivik into the Utøya mass murderer. She can shove her demand up her arse and clench away.

  • Well, of course they want the media to stop using the SLPC’s hate-group delineation. Isn’t that how things work in Trump’s Amerikkka? Hate is Love, right Mr. Orwell?

    • Talisman

We’ve always been at war with North Korea.

      • That’s true, but I fail to see what that has to do with my posting.

  • Dean Cameron

So the Bad Guys joined forces and are complaining the Good Guys sais they were Bad Guys?
    Duly noted.

  • TheManicMechanic

    How about… No.

  • Talisman

They love (their interpretation of) freedom of speech, until someone else starts speaking freely.

  • DaveMiller135

Don’t do the hate, if you can’t — oh fuck you. Don’t be a douchebag and complain when people call you on it. Or do, because as much as I support her First Amendment rights, the more time I spend laughing at Pam Geller and Tony Perkins, the more sanity returns to my world.

  • Tor

They keep using the term “discredited,” but they have not produced any examples to back it up.

    • MonochromeMouse

They don’t like them so they are discredited, duh. That’s how it works right?

  • labdad95

Aww, the hater’s fragile feewings are hurt. Boo frickity hoo.

  • Librarykid

“…would never do the same with abortion providers.” But then abortion providers are not motivating others to kill and bomb, nor are they operating tax-exempt political organizations bent on changing the laws in the nation and the various states.

  • Jack

And thereby using the very tactics that earned them a place on the list.

  • Christopher Street

These idiots? Please, they’re just ginning up the next scam fundraising season using the SPLC as their whipping boy. Anyone who has a brain wouldn’t listen to a minute of this nonsense.

  • JCF
  • Peter

What a surprise, the people on the SPLC Hate Groups List, demanding the non use of the SPLC Hate Groups List.

  • olandp

    Discredited by whom? Hate groups?

  • Michael In Atlanta

As each of these groups have been added since I started following SPLC, I love how they react in the haughtiness manner possible when they join “The Club of Infamy!”

  • Barry William Teske

    Oh look!
HATE group leaders think faith and belief are the same thing.
