Homocon Milo Busted Lying About Book Sales

The Guardian reports:

Rightwing controversialist Milo Yiannopoulos has branded reported low sales of his new book “fake news” after official figures revealed the writer has failed to rock the book charts on either side of the Atlantic, despite his claims to the contrary.

According to Nielsen Bookscan, which monitors book sales through almost all outlets, including Amazon, the former Breitbart technology editor has sold only 18,268 copies of his book in the US and 152 in the UK since its launch on 4 July.

The figure is far below the 100,000 copies, including pre-orders, that his PR team claimed had sold through Amazon alone on the day of the book’s launch.

Though ebook sales are excluded from the charts, Andre Breedt, managing director of Nielsen Book Research, said: “As our sales include Amazon sales it is unlikely to be higher.”

  • kareemachan

    Quelle surprise.

And I’m willing to bet that most of those were sold below the stated cost. Or to repub entities that give them to fellow repubs. On the remainder table in 3… 2… 1…

ETA: I love the 152 sold in Britain. Lulz.

    • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

      • kareemachan

I just read The Guardian article. He claims he was citing orders by wholesalers, not actually purchased. Well, the thing about a book by a publisher like S&S is that the wholesalers *return* the unbought copies. Like I’m sure they did with this monstrosity. Post-haste.

And end up at the Dollar Store, where I will buy them as gag gifts.

          • Dazzer

            Careful what you wish for.

Milo Hannigan (his real name) will be so desperate for publicity by then that he will probably offer to do personal signings at Dollar Stores.

          • RJ Bone

And probably back alleys, at that point 😛

          • djcoastermark

And I’m sure many of the recipients of your gift will be gagging.

OT, but I suspect we’ll all be hearing a little more about this today (reported this morning on NBC News):

The Russian lawyer who met with the Trump team after a promise of
compromising material on Hillary Clinton was accompanied by a
Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counter intelligence officer
who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to
    Russian intelligence
    , NBC News has learned.

    Deeper and deeper and deeper….

    • Ernest Endevor

Oh thankGod! It’s almost eight and I’d seen no fresh developments, no new scandals brewing. Now I can enjoy my coffee.

      • Gustav2

The biggest scandal is the meeting itself. In order to get just a phone call returned by one person at this level in a presidential campaign you have to be a MAJOR donor.

To have a sit down meeting with THREE high level campaign operatives you have to have funded a Super PAC or the RNC for a long time.

They knew what they were getting into.

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

Along with the “suicide” of the man who confessed to trying to obtain Clinton emails from Russian hackers

“A Republican operative who had attempted to obtain Hillary Clinton’s missing emails from alleged Russian hackers, killed himself in Minnesota
in May… In a hotel room near Rochester’s Mayo Clinic, Peter W. Smith, 81, of Lake Forest left documents, including a statement police described as a suicide note.

In the note recovered by police, Smith apologized to authorities and said that “NO FOUL PLAY WHATSOEVER” was involved in his death. He wrote that he was taking his own life because of a “RECENT BAD TURN IN HEALTH SINCE JANUARY, 2017” and timing related “TO LIFE INSURANCE OF $5 MILLION EXPIRING.”

When his obituary was originally published, no cause of death was listed. Totally not suspicious, right?

“Police found a receipt from a local Walmart time stamped from the previous day, May 13 at 12:53 p.m. The receipt was for the purchase of “Helium Jumbo” and other items. Police also noted that the two helium tanks in the room were draped with vinyl-covered exercise ankle or wrist weights. The report did not offer an explanation for the weights. Police said that because they did not suspect foul play, they had not viewed any security video from the Walmart store to confirm that Smith had bought the tanks himself.”

          • Skokieguy [Larry]

Thank you and wow. Considering the breathtaking implications if there were foul play, you’d think that viewing the security tapes would be reasonable due diligence.

That being said, if this were a nefarious situation, why would such a public and verifiable purchase have been made?

          • zhera

How many suicide notes have you heard of that said NO FOUL PLAY! JUST ME DOING MY THING! NOTHING TO SEE HERE!

    • VodkaAndPolitics

This is especially interesting because when a bottom feeder like Milo publishes a book, their publishing company usually buys enough copies themselves to send it to the top of the NYT best seller list. If that didn’t happen, that means that he’s lost the support of not not just his minions, but the powers at be as well. This marks the beginning of the end for Milo Whatsitspoulis

      • VodkaAndPolitics

All that being said, I’d still hate fuck him.

  • it’s been known for a long time now that rethugs have to have some rich concern willing to mass purchase their crap just to make it on the charts. iirc the NYT got busted for not mentioning that on their “best seller” lists and had to modify them to reflect the fact with a little symbol next to any book that had been bought en mass.

homocons lying is as expected as the sun rising every morning. i’m glad this one is so lame he can’t even sell a thousand books in the UK. /nelson ha-ha voice

    • jerry

It’s mostly various PAC groups that buy them, and then “If you donate at least $20, we’ll send a FREE copy of (right-wing asshole)’s new book!!” But yes, every time Hannity, Coulter, O’Reilly, etc. come out with a new diatribe (same as the last, worded a little differently), they automatically hit the bestsellers list because of bulk purchases by the political action committees.

  • Dazzer

Just to add a little more information to this re: his UK sales.

That 152 figure in sales in the UK doesn’t mean that !52 people have made a purchase. The most likely explanation is that automated library services have bought the majority of those books in case they’re ordered through inter-library loans. His name will be on a watch list as a writer and a bot will have bought up the books.

Milo is now claiming on Facebook that we shouldn’t be laughing at his UK sales because the book isn’t on sale in the UK. The poor idiot seems totally unaware of how books are bought and sold in the international market these days. even if the book isn’t published in the UK, it’s entirely possible to order it internationally from the US.

!52 copies have been sold in the UK – pure and simple. And the majority have been bought by automated library systems and will be sold on to the general public for 10p in the not to distant future when libraries want to clear out the unloaned booked from their stacks.

    • Câl

….and will be put on sale to the general public for 10p (but then given to charity shops when failing to sell) in the not to distant future when libraries want to clear out the unloaned booked from their stacks.

There, fixed your final sentence for you!

  • Rex

The thing is by the time the book came out it was hopelessly out of date. It was the literary equivalent of deeley boppers. • Todd20036

Milo’s book would have sold more if he didn’t out himself as a pedophile.

      • RJ Bone

That depends on who bought it 😉 😉

      • Marti386

The thing is, Milo isn’t a pedophile. He was never molested by a priest. He doesn’t believe most of the crap he says. He just makes it up.

That was just Milo being Milo, doing what he does for a living. And his living is being outrageous. The problem is, people who sell outrage for a living are beginning to discover that there IS a limit to the outrageousness they can sell.

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

Late to the party, but this is rather jaw-dropping:

Leaked Documents Suggest Secretive Billionaire Trump Donors Are Milo’s Patrons. The Mercer family helped Donald Trump become President — and they appear to be funding the controversial Yiannopoulos.

Leaked documents, including a promissory note and emails, as well as conversations with several people familiar with the matter, strongly
imply that the Mercers funded Yiannopoulos following his resignation
from Breitbart News after video surfaced in which he appeared to
condone pedophilia. Together, they suggest that the financiers of the
new conservative politics aren’t simply interested in protecting their
money, but in winning a brutal new culture war waged largely online.

More than that, the documents point to a relationship that Yiannopoulos
seems to regard as a kind of personal patronage, expecting from the
family not just financial but legal support, after the British citizen’s
      visa status became tenuous post-Breitbart.

      • barrixines

        Such a malignant family.

        • Skokieguy [Larry]

And talk about “politics makes strange bedfellows”. The Mercers are hard core right wing and would like to turn the US into a theocracy, but they will consort with trash like Milo if they feel it will help to achieve their goals.

      • JCF

If there’s EVIL, the Mercers must be nearby.

        • Marti386

The Mercers are even bigger sh*ts than the Trumps.

          • Nixon is Lord

            Not Johnny Mercer, surely!!

      • Randy503

From the article: the family sees the British shock-meister as a way to capture the attention of a generation who grew up on the internet and represents the future of the kind of anti-establishment Republican politics that swept Donald Trump to power:

“The Mercers want to do whatever they can to bring this new style of conservatism to a younger generation. Milo did that for Breitbart with their money and they see no reason to change that.”

If so, that’s a serious misreading of the millennials. I really don’t think the way to political power is to insult everyone. And if they really think that there is such a thing as “anti-establishment republicans,” they are smoking some serious crack.

  • TrueWords

The majority of those books were probably bought by library services or maybe Milo bought them to give to his friends…oh wait…he does not have 150 friends…maybe he wanted to build a fire…

  • bambinoitaliano

How stupid can the publisher be? Why in the world would they think his base are individuals who would spend money on reading material?

    • CB

It’s self-published, so they probably only produce when they get orders. From Amazon’s page:
“Inventory is currently limited on this title, but we’re working hard to get more. Orders may be delayed by several weeks. We’ll notify you by email as soon as we have an estimated delivery date.”

      • barrixines

That must mean Milo’s inkjet has run out.

    • Like so many right-wing “authors” he is being propped up by some very wealthy people who can afford to buy up copies of the book. This has been going on for a very long time. I suspect they learned this from the $cientologists who have long ago been caught shipping copies of Dianetics to retail outlets with the store’s own pricetag already attached because they were reselling them to the same store.

  • Boreal
  • CB

The 100K may represent a commitment by booksellers, but it in no way can be extrapolated to retail sales or final orders. Like everything related to Milo, this is ridiculous.

    • Reality.Bites

Doubtful booksellers would commit to 100k copies of a self-published book.

Interestingly there’s a notice at Amazon:

Inventory is currently limited on this title, but we’re working hard to get more. Orders may be delayed by several weeks. We’ll notify you by email as soon as we have an estimated delivery date.

  • DesertSun59

I note that there is only one depth that Righties will not tread: pedophilia.

I’m guessing that there’s a very large amount of pedophilia and/or incest that runs in Republican families, as witnessed by how they become instantly outraged by the very mention of it.

    1. Someone else has noted that, too. Pizzagate was INVENTED by someone who saw this. The shooter was diddled as a young boy.

    2. When Milo’s interview revealed that he advocated having sex with older men when he was chicken that was SOLE thing that turned Righties off. Everything else was perfectly ‘normal’ about him until that was revealed.

So, it’s very obvious to me that there is some serious repression of incest in Republican families.
