LIVE VIDEO: Trump Speaks With Indian Prime Minister

CNN International reports:

President Donald Trump looked to show unity with Narendra Modi when the Indian prime minister visited the White House on Monday, heralding the military cooperation between the United States and India in a move that thrusts the new President into the delicate world of India-Pakistan relations.

The meeting between the off-the-cuff President and the prime minister who leads one of the world’s fastest growing economies will be filled with contentious issues, but none may be more challenging than how the United States treats India like a “major defense partner” — a designation the Obama administration gave the country in 2016 — without angering neighboring Pakistan.

Senior administration officials who prepared Trump for Monday’s meeting said Trump is aware of the delicate balance with India and Pakistan, but will look to treat the 1.3 billion person country like the defense ally it is, including by selling the kind of “technology that the United States provides to its closest allies and partner.”
