Cate Blanchett Does “Drag” At The Stonewall [VIDEO]

Vulture reports:

Cate Blanchett took the stage at a benefit performance at the Stonewall Inn Monday night to lip-sync for her life, and claim several others in the process. According to a few clips that have made their way onto the internet, and which will serve as valuable commodities in any post-apocalypse gay black market, Blanchett lip-synced Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Own Me” and Adele’s “Hello,” the latter of the two while wearing a pussy hat, of course. Blanchett is currently performing in The Present on Broadway and in Carol on the DVD that’s playing on repeat in my apartment.

Really Joe Jervis… lip-sync for her life….? I’m so glad she didn’t fuck it up! 🙂

  • another_steve

“in any post-apocalypse gay black market”

Tony Perkins, Franklin Graham, Stephen Bannon: Shut down Pornhub.

Go ahead…you know Jesus doesn’t approve of it. Hates it as a matter of fact.

    Try it.

    Do it for daddy.

(would be the total end of their hateful political party)

  • kcken

Man, all you lucky NYC people, what with your original Broadway shows, and things like this cropping up. *sigh*

On the bright side though, a loaf of bread here only costs 3$ not 13$

    Still…. i’d give my left nut …..

    • Chuck in NYC

Well, Arnold sliced bread loaves are $4.29 here at most supermarkets in Manhattan but that brand is frequently on sale for $2.99. I can’t speak for whatever they’re charging for “artisan loaves” at…ugh…Whole Foods. 🙂

      • another_steve

You mean “Whole Paycheck,” don’t you?

        • bzrd

I dumpster dive at paycheck but they now have a sign saying don’t eat it we’ve put poison out for the varmints and disinfectant too
well, wash the fruit off and peel it same with veggies
then it’s down to Noah’s dumpster for some bagels

the amount of food wasted is criminal

          • another_steve

Love to you babe, for speaking that.

Yes, the food waste is awful. Some food retailers give “past shelf-life” stuff to homeless shelters and the like. It’s often perfectly edible, so why put it in the garbage?

            As you say, criminal.

      • stuckinthewoods

I’m impressed. That’s not much more expensive than the same brand here in the provinces at $3.49. I know there’s a large discrepancy in housing though.

      • TuuxKabin

        Whole Paycheck. FIFY.

      • Bomer

Off brand loaf of white bread is .88 where I’m at >.>

    • Joe in PA

And those Broadway shows you speak of…they cost a lot of BREAD. ;(

    • Joe in PA

Hubs and I fantasize about ‘winning the lottery’ (not enough to actually buy a ticket, but still). With my winnings I’d have a penthouse somewhere in the theatre district and I would see EVERY SINGLE show…2nd row! 🙂

      • another_steve

Hon, I’m old enough to remember when you could get a decent seat to see a top-rate Broadway show for $10 or $15. Not center orchestra, but decent.

My mama was into the arts. Saw so many of the greats, thanks to her.

      • Roger

That´s pretty much me and hubby´s life dream as well!! Every show and every play EVAH!!

        • Mike_in_the_Tundra

When we lived on the East Coast, we got to New York quite often. There’s nothing like live theater.

      • Just saw Fun home in San Fran… $29! And free snacks after.
        We were blown away.

    • gothambear

Okay and she was fantastic in The Present even if the Chekhov derived show was just so-so…I’ll pay more for the bread to see that! 😉

    • visiting family in NJ this month, my girl n I bypassed the diner one night and drove into Manhattan, had a drink at the Stonewall too.
L Chaim! “You don’t own me”- Great choice of song.

  • meh.

‘Carol’ on repeat? Is Joe becoming Lebanese?

All shall see my bad CGI and good-naturedly ignore.

      • another_steve

I can’t stand CGI. When “Doctor Who” went all CGI, I lost interest.

Recently rewatched 1976’s “Logan’s Run,” starring a fabulously gorgeous Michael York.

Watch it, and marvel at what was accomplished before CGI.

    I thought ” You don’t own me ” was a Leslie Gore song ,
and it is , but her version is more cutesy .
Dusty is close to Adele sometimes .

    • Nick in Pasadena

Glad someone caught this. To not give Lesley credit for her trademark song is a sacrilege! (Although if you’re going to give someone else credit, Dusty is about as good as it gets.)

      • Michael R

        I’m saying they both have a version , which I wasn’t aware
        Leslie Gore version 1963
Dusty Springfield version 1964 ( on her first album )
Written by dudes ! John Madara and David White

      • fuzzybits

Tell me about it. Leslie’s death hit me kinda hard.

    • Randy Left Brooklyn

That was my reaction too. I had to look it up to see if Dusty did a version, and the Dusty version is the one Cate used.

Oh my, the horror! When did we ditch one of our own – Leslie Gore – for Dusty!! I’m sure Ms. Dusty is wonderful and hugely talented….but Leslie Gore….

    • clay

Dusty was one of our own, too.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

Meh. Whatever happened to Dame Edna, Lipsynka, Joey Arias and Rollerena? Now those were truly glorious drag queens.

    Just showing my age.

(RIP Sylvester, Charles Pierce, Lady Chablis, Divine & Leigh Bowery)

Edit: I do think among the new ones that Sherry Vine and Bianca del Rio are pretty good and close to the spirit of the classic 70s/80s drag queens.

    • another_steve

      Ohmigod you remember Rollerena?!?

Welcome to the JMG Fossil Club.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

Oh, sweetie. I’ve been a dues-paying member of the JMG Fossil Club since… well, my original membership card is cuneiform so it’s hard to read the date.

    • Dagoril

Dame Edna was just in The Absolutely Fabulous movie, which just recently came out on dvd.

    • Dolly Palone

Oh, don’t forget Charles Busch, please. He’s still fabulous.

  • djcoastermark

That was fun. I envy those who were there. What the needs now, is love sweet love. And a little bit of fun!

    • TuuxKabin

Little bit!? Hon? You too laid back n’ mellow. Lotsa fun. Lots of it! Just had a sample of Kate Hepburn’s favorite standing order of chocolate, USPS’in it’s way down to you as I write. Hope it doesn’t melt in the heat in your mail box.

      • djcoastermark

OOOOh yum! It should be ok as our mail usually gets here in the AM.

  • DanimalChgo

“Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!”

    • Gene

only she (or streep) could pull that off…and make it…almost terrifying….the words of a tens of thousands of years old elf queen, noble beyond understanding…fighting against darkness and evil….in lesser hands, Tolkiens words would have been pure camp.

      She made it work

my hubby, knowing am a Tolkien fan, got me midnight tickets to the 12 01 am showing of the first of the trilogy on film. I was sitting next to a 350 lb dwarf on one side…and a 60 yo, kind of gone to pot, but really dedicated to the costume, Galadriel. one of the most fun nights of my life (and one of the few where I was pretty sure I had gotten laid more, and was cooler than anyone around me 🙂

      • I dunno, I could see Phyllis Diller pulling it off…in a really wrong kind of way

        • Mike_in_the_Tundra

I was thinking Carol Burnett, still it would be in the wrong kind of way.

  • JCF

“Blanchett is currently performing … in Carol on the DVD that’s playing on repeat in my apartment.”

Get out of my residence! ;-p~~~
