REPORT: White Supremacists Infiltrate The Police

A chilling report from The Intercept:

White supremacists and other extremists maintain an active presence in U.S. police departments and other law enforcement agencies. A striking reference to that conclusion, notable for its confidence and the policy prescriptions that accompany it, appears in a classified FBI Counterterrorism Policy Guide from April 2015, obtained by The Intercept.

The guide, which details the process by which the FBI enters individuals on a terrorism watchlist, the Known or Suspected Terrorist File, notes that “domestic terrorism investigations focused on militia extremists, white supremacist extremists, and sovereign citizen extremists often have identified active links to law enforcement officers,” and explains in some detail how bureau policies have been crafted to take this infiltration into account.

Although these right-wing extremists have posed a growing threat for years, federal investigators have been reluctant to publicly address that threat or to point out the movement’s longstanding strategy of infiltrating the law enforcement community.

No centralized recruitment process or set of national standards exists for the 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States, many of which have deep historical connections to racist ideologies. As a result, state and local police as well as sheriff’s departments present ample opportunities for white supremacists and other right-wing extremists looking to expand their power base.

That’s just the opening. Hit the link for much more.

It helps if you have an intelligent adult human being making the Executive Orders who are actually working for the good on the country . This could never happen under Trump .

    • Max_1

It’s not when you are Republican…

    • Friday

So they said while filibustering absolutely everything even after they had lost all those *elections.*

  • liondon#pay4dawall

Wow ..this is chilling. This makes me think what happens in a coup.

  • The Sentinel

White supremacists have infiltrated the White House! So why not the Police?

  • The Milkman

This is simply the result of efforts by the “alt-right” to make their white supremacist behavior more mainstream. We see it in Steve Bannon, in Breitbart, in the mocking of PC “snowflakes” (even when someone like Bill Maher is doing it), and in the term “alt-right” itself.

We must not let the executive order shock-doctrine to blind us to this attempt to legitimize bigotry and hatred. Stay vigilant, stay loud.

    • Chitown Kev

      Nope…

The FBI investigated this…The BUSH FBI

This was a bit of an offshoot into the alleged KKK ties of former Chicago police torturer Jon Burge.

      • The Milkman

I’m thinking more along the lines of a long term effort, not just the Trumpsters. The white supremacists have for years longed for the quasi-legitimacy they had a century ago.

      • Derrick Johns

        Hi, Kev:
I saw a university professor make the comparison between modern police departments and the paddy-rollers who captured Blacks who tried to escape slavery, or they were just too late getting back to their owner’s property (on Saturday or Sunday nights). She was saying that modern police departments were modeled on these patrols–at least on how they treated Black folks . Everything was and is about control. It’s not about protecting the community.

  • The_Wretched

I’m semi-amazed the PoC population doesn’t have an underground militia to hunt down and off the white supremacists. It would not be a good thing but populations that are oppressed and subject to extra-judicial killing on a regular basis tend to form such militias.

  • Boycott NC

If it surprises you that police forces are a safe haven for white supremacists then YOU AREN’T FUCKING PAYING ATTENTION TO ANYTHING.

    • Gil

      Basically.

As I was thinking when reading the headline, this surprises… who, exactly?

As many death of police shooting of African Americans evidence had shown before this report.

    • FatNance

Tell me, which police officers in any recent high-profile shooting are confirmed white supremacists. Names and perhaps a brief description of your evidence would be great.

      Thanks so much.

      • kareemachan

Maybe the fact that the overwhelming number of people killed by cop are black might be construed as evidence.

        Just sayin’…

        • FatNance

That sounds like an over generalization. We were recently involved in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Many of the insurgents killed by US troops were Muslim and most of the US troops were non-Muslim. So, by your logic, the US military is anti-Muslim.

          • CJAS

Perhaps not the best analogy given that the report suggests that a significant percentage of white supremacists the FBI tracked have military training.

  • VodkaAndPolitics

For us white folks, this is shocking…. For our African American and Latino/Hispanic Brothers and Sisters, the response, I’m sure, is little more than “Duh.” ….. Linda, You’re not listening. Linda, Honey.

    • Judas Peckerwood

This is no surprise whatsoever to anyone who fights for social justice and has dealt with the cops.

    • Andrew Iverson

I’m white, and i’m not surprised in the least, especially since i’ve been reading about them doing the same in the military since the 90s.

  • Lazycrockett

I thought that was a prerequisite.

  • Mordred LeFey

So they’ve been planning this for ages.

It’s almost like the FBI is intentionally drag out the reports after the fact. Hillary emails leak for naught nearing the days of election, Russian interfering the US election when it’s too late and now the infiltration of the police institution after how many black and other colored folks bodies being buried? How incompetent can the director be? More appropriately, how corrupted is James Comey on the scale of between Putin and the KKK?

      • WhiteJesus

        Ha!

  • if this is news to you, you should expand your reading habits. i mean, the fact that the fbi has been looking into it is certainly noteworthy. but i’m talking about the epidemic of murderous behavior on the part of white officers towards nonwhite citizens. i mean, we hardly even make note of the daily shootings that take place in this country. shootings that don’t have to be in the head or chest, but are. shootings that kill little boys with toys, mentally ill people who are lost in the streets, or teens joyriding, or…

white supremacists have been in the ranks since the end of the civil war. what is different today is that drumpf is giving them an excuse to be really blatant about it. but the cops have not been the people to turn to if one is looking for racial justice since, well, always.

It is amazing–although that’s not really the right word–that they will probably make someone AG, the CHIEF law enforcement officer and chief lawyer of the United States government, whose OWN party thought him UNFIT for a federal judgeship several decades ago, because of his blatant RACISM.

It is so obviously WRONG–so obviously.

      • charemor

Everyone that Trump has picked or nominated for anything has been wrong and unqualified.

  • Cylux

Then there’s the funny stories about undercover infiltrations of right wing white supremacists groups where an agency pulls the trigger to arrest only to find all the members of the group at that point were solely made up of law enforcement agents from different agencies, infiltrating to take down the cell from the inside.

Now that would lead to a constitutional crisis.

      • billbear1961

        Safari, we are there.

        I am sick with fear!

        I’m starting to cry.

        • safari

I don’t think we’re at the same type of crisis as caused by Nixon yet. That is coming down the pike, I’m sure. I guess I’m just calming myself that now is not as bad as it is likely to get. And once we have an executive branch with leaders at top posts again, it’ll be easier to do something as we will no longer be in “transition”.

          • billbear1961

I have never heard of federal marshals refusing to obey court orders, safari–NEVER.

“They’ve been instructed to take orders from U.S. Atty.”

What does that mean, US attorneys at the DoJ??

Someone in the Executive is ordering them to defy the courts?!

            That is utterly, utterly UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!

My hands are like blocks of ICE.

          • catherinecc

            > Someone in the Executive is ordering them to defy the courts?!

    • billbear1961

This is what I was afraid of–that they would refuse. They have NO RIGHT to refuse to enforce court orders, NO RIGHT to refuse to obey the federal courts.

      I’m truly scared to death.

The Rule of Law has been suspended, overthrown.

      People, THIS IS A COUP.

The Democrats must act AT ONCE.

This regime’s authority is now FORFEIT, for it is defying the CONSTITUTION.

I never seriously thought I would see such a thing happen in this country, not really, although I’ve feared it for a long time.

      I am furious and TERRIFIED.

      We must RESIST!!

This is not rebellion on OUR part–it is the Executive branch which is rebelling, against the Constitution.

      This is a FASCIST COUP.

      • catherinecc

        > The Rule of Law has been suspended, overthrown.

That happened a while ago. The difference is that the police have merely made their position clear.

Police aligning with the executive and ignoring the courts happens under all dictatorships.
