HYPOCRISY EXPLOSION: Ted Cruz Mocks Democrats For “Ridiculous” Gun Control Filibuster [VIDEO]

Raw Story reports:

During a floor speech on Thursday, Cruz accused Democrats of grandstanding for partisan political purposes.

“In the wake of the attack, many of us predicted what would unfold,” Cruz said. “And it was sadly the same political tale we have seen over and over again. Many of us predicted that Democrats would as a matter of rigid partisan ideology refuse to even say with the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’”

“And that even worse, they would try to use it as an excuse to go after the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens,” he continued. “Yesterday, we saw a political show on the Senate floor. Democrat after Democrat standing for hours incensed not at ISIS, incensed not at radical Islamic terrorism, incensed that Americans have a right to keep and bear arms.”

Cruz accused Murphy of orchestrating a “political distraction” for partisan “gamesmanship.”

“And I think the American people find it ridiculous,” the Texas Republican sneered. “That in response to an ISIS terror attack the Democrats go on high dungeon that we’ve got to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.”

    • Lakeview Bob

      Repulsive asshole.

  • NancyP

Cruz will always be Mr. Rep. Green Eggs and Ham in my heart.

  • Jmdintpa

You still lost hard to trump you self loathing ugly asshole.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

So predicting partisan politics doesn’t qualify as partisan politics?

And Ted, good for you for lambasting people who want to do something. What terrible politicians would think of taking action in time of crisis? Their focus should be on thoughts and prayers, not actions. So we really appreciate your totally not-political comments to help us all be better people.

Why don’t you run again, just like Little Marco?

    • madknits

Ted do something? Heaven forbid! This is, after all, the guy who shut the government down!

Is it wrong of me to want to take a blowtorch to his face?

      • chemical

Doesn’t matter if you did, because his face is already melted. He was left out in the Texas sun too long.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

Threats of violence are wrong. You should PRAY that god does that to him. That’s totally okay then!

        • Cattleya1

I’d just like to see his god take a big, stinky dump right on top of his head.

    • D. J.

The only thing I want to see Little Marco run for is the Georgia border….in cha cha heels.

      • John30013

Please do not send your little dipshit up here. Tyvm.

        • D. J.

It will be okay. He’ll get lost in Okeefenokee.

  • Charles in Bloomington

    High “dungeon”?

    • Megrim Twist

I know, right? Had to go back and read that again. Still, what?

      • John30013

I didn’t. Despite the assertions of many, Ted Cruz has never impressed me as being particularly intelligent. It’s not at all surprising to me that he would use a phase like this without knowing the actual words.

    • JoeMyGod

I used to hear that expression from older gay guys back in the 70s. Can’t recall having heard a straight person say it. Anyway, it’s supposed to “dudgeon.”

      • Octavio

Let’s face it, Cruz is the biggest old queen in the Senate (with possible exception of Lindseybelle).

        • Oscarlating Wildely

          (with possible exception of Lindseybelle).
          Ham Biscuits! Ham Biscuits!

      • Brian Berry

        Whoa! You actually did that

      • Phil2u

Yes. It’s walking out in “high dudgeon” (meaning leaving terribly offended or indignant). I’m 68 y.o. and haven’t heard it in years. I thought it was Southern; I’m from N.C.

        • Yes, it is Southern. We use it here in Texas too. We also use, “Who are your people?” Fortunately we are all too aware of who Rafael’s people are….

      • JCF

        THANK YOU!

    • Brian Berry

Reply to Charles: As Joe’s and Megrim’s responses evidence, a dearth of educated readers means few will understand your catch.
Reply to Joe and Megrim: The word Cruz was reaching for was dudgeon, the expression is not obscure at all.

      • PickyPecker

        noun dud·geon

        Definition of dudgeon
: a fit or state of indignation —often used in the phrase in high dudgeon

        • Brian Berry

You do realize, I trust, that by doing the work of looking up words for others that you completely obviate the exercise, no?

  • Rebecca Gardner

I am so fucking upset right now. What a piece of shit this man is. Oh, when he talked about Prayer being the Action rather than DOING FUCKING SOMETHING TO STOP THE NEXT MASSACRE I just lost my mind.

    • Christopher

I don’t actually hate many people. I find it to be a wasted emotion.

That being said, I hate this man with every fibre of my being. He’s despicable! He makes other despicable people look tame by comparison. Everything thing about this gawd awful motherfucker makes me want to scream and vomit! Yeah, he makes me physically ill. He’s an embarrassment to our country, and to humanity in general.

If something horrific and gruesome happened to him I would gladly cheer with glee, and send a thank you card to whomever, or whatever did that to him.

      He. Is. Evil.

I’ll just let Alex (Cher) explain it better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCFRd1vnK-0

      • B Snow

If you get a chance, look up the Rachel Maddow segment explaining how Cruz got elected in the first place. It’s fascinating, the way all the pieces clicked into place so this creep could become a senator.

        • Christopher

Thanks for that suggestion. Just watched it. Kinda makes me wonder if he has a chance at retaining his seat in 2018. He got VERY lucky last time.

Link to the story if anyone is interested:

          • B Snow

Thanks for posting the link, I was too lazy to look for it. 🙂

He’s still the darling of the conservative christian voters, but if Trump’s success so far really means the GOP is no longer ruled by the religious right, Cruz could be in trouble come 2018. We can always hope. (Of course, it could always be someone worse, if that’s even possible….)

    • JaniceInToronto

OK. I’ll say it. He is not a nice man.

Now I’ll be accused of being too strident, eh?

      • If you are, I’ll be in the same box! I don’t hate people, but I come damned close to hating this waste of genetic material.

      • Christopher

      • popebuck1

Are you one’a them “shrill Feminazis” I done been warned about?

      • Rebecca Gardner

One can never be too strident when disgusting Ted Cruz.

        • JCF

I think you meant “discussing”, but since it’s disgusTED you’re talking about…

          • B Snow

When talking about Ted Cruz, disgust permeates every bit of the conversation.

Shut the fuck up, you goddamned tool! You obviously have no fucking clue as to what you’re talking about. EVER.

I hope Texas shows you the door when your term is up.

So, you don’t like him, do you…

      I could tell.

      • Christopher

        Meh, he’s ok I guess. 😉

  • bkmn

The second amendment is NOT absolute, so it is time we stop acting like it is.

    • John P.

If I am correct, when the second amendment was written, we didn’t have assault rifles.

    • Michael Rush

I thought Ted was in prison for repeatedly assaulting his wife ….

      • Uncle Mark

I never tire of watching that. The hat trick would have been if she fell off the platform, like Carly Fiorina…and Ted still ignored her on the floor (like he did with Carly.)

    • Uncle Mark

If Ted is so hot ‘n horny for guns, why are they forbidden at the GOP convention in Cleveland. Why isn’t Cruz demanding a roomful of “good guys with guns” at the convention? Some of us would REALLY like to see fine examples of the 2nd Amendment and the “responsible gun owners,” which has become as much a part of the Republican Party as Jeebus, the military-industrial complex, racism, ignorance, and the unborn. Poor Ted is so desperate to be relevant again after being rejected by voting Republicans and watching the religious right try to copulate with Trump. I would weep for Ted, but I don’t want to waste the Kleenex.

    • YakHerder

No shit! I mean, If you read the rest of the constitution, it actually says more about the “Militia” and what it is for. (Article 1 section 8; Article 2 section 2.) Basically, it’s the National Guard. It says nothing about using weapons for purely private purposes, and certainly nothing about overthrowing a tyrannical government (the Right’s favorite juvenile fantasy).

The fact that the Right has convinced a majority of the Supreme Court to ignore this “original/textual” intent of the framers just shows how hypocritical (and powerful) they’ve become.

  • Get Real

Does anyone have that gif of him elbowing and punching his wife in the face during his defeat? I feel like laughing at the sight of his face now…

  • Jerry Hinnant

Well if that ain’t the eggs calling the ham green!

  • PickyPecker

  • popebuck1

Well naturally, their filibuster didn’t approach the GENIUS of reading a 40-year-old children’s book. And getting the moral completely wrong.

    • Friday

Funny how one of these worked in sixteen hours and another cost the taxpayers 24 billion dollars precisely to accomplish nothing.

  • Richard B

just when it looked liked he would be off the big stage for a little while …

  • Friday

Maybe you’re all butthurt about people not using your slogans, Ted, because your claims are so thin you can only repeat them one way, apparently. Government shutdown clown.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

In the Spirit of Green Eggs and Ham:
I do not like you Ted the Cruz
I do not like you and hope you lose
I do not like you in the House
I do not like you or your spouse
I do not like how you love to hate
I do hope you don’t masturbate
But when you do, I know this much
With guns and Bible you will touch
This constitution that we all adore
Which you have made your private whore
With hopes against Hillary to score
But in truth, you are a bore.
And all us Queers, from far and near
    From Maui to Cali,
    From Idaho to Orlando
    From closets blowing wide
    and from bathroom stalls astride
    A call goes go out,
    a scream, a shout,
In the memory of our dead,
their lives touch our hearts and head
We cry aloud, a spirit anew:
“Go fuck yourself, and your little Trump, too.”

  • Raising_Rlyeh

I didn’t think it was possible that I could hate Cruz even more and yet here he is giving me a reason to hate the bastard even more.

  • Gustav2

Sen Cruz, you do not speak for the American people, not even the majority of Republicans. Otherwise you would be the nominee for president.

  • delk

Hey Ted! Did god tell you to run for president so trump could kick your ass?

  • PickyPecker

I do not like this Ted Cruz twit
I do not like him just one bit.
I do not like his marriage stance
    Leaving gays without a chance.
I do not like his 50 views
About a woman’s right to chooose.
I do not like that he thinks strange
    Science facts on climate change.
I do not like the way he speaks
And fumbles talking on his feets.
I do not like his lies and tricks.
I do not like his head of bricks.

  • Jeffg166

  • 2karmanot

  • The_Wretched

The more we learn about the Orlando shooter, the more it looks like a case of self-loathing coupled with deep seated conflict between that man’s sexuality and religion. That he dedicated the attack to ISIS seems like a trivial bit of window dressing. He wasn’t apparently strongly political nor have we seen facts about how he had ties to terror cells and directed attacked. This means he’s more in-line with the Dylan Roof and similar than with directed acts of islamist terrorism.

And Ted – nice job erasing who exactly was killed.

    • Friday

(Actually though less of what I hear about rumor really seems like he ever was part of the gay scene apart from stalking. I think some of this will come out in the wash.)

    • Mike__in_Houston

Most of what I’ve heard and read indicates that your first beautifully written sentence above sums the whole thing up admirably. He was another Tommy Peters: a closet case in an opposite-sex marriage who couldn’t stand the happiness of others; at least Tommy had the decency to try to kill only himself rather than bring 49+ others down with him.

  • Rex

And no mention that the killer most likely swore alliance to ISIS to cover up his own demons. He sought out the LGBT community to kill those he learned to hate all his life thanks to the likes of Ted Cruz. Hey, Ted, there’s blood on your hands too.

    • Sk3ptic

Yikes, he looks lobotomized. The mutton chop is literally pointing out his chins.

  • Ted really ought to read that second amendment.

    • Silver Badger

He really needs to understand the first amendment before he tackles the second.

  • Rex

The right to keep and bear arms is not the right to own a weapon of war and leave 49 innocent people dead. Ted Cruz is a vile horrid excuse for a human being.

    • Friday

The way I see it, the right to keep and bear arms is supposed to be an *equalizer* in American tradition, not to make you a little warlord in your own neighborhood. That sure sounds like an ‘unregulated militia’ to *me.* That’s my read on things.

  • Hank

    Ted Cruz = HYPOCRITE

  • Mike C

The GOP needs this to be an ISIS attack desperately. They’re even sicker than I thought.

  • Paul_in_Dallas

    Soulless ghoul.

  • Joe in PA

Guess who else wouldn’t say “radical islamic terrorists”…your buddy the STATESMAN GW Bush. There is a reason asswipe…but you don’t care. Green eggs and ham boy.

Not much different from Bush on Islam? Bloomberg notes that George W. Bush also avoided the term “Radical Islam,” saying it’s a “longstanding U.S. policy.” Why? As Elliot Abrams, who served as deputy National Security Adviser to George W. Bush told Eli Lake, “We were invading two Muslim countries, and we were being accused of being at war with Islam. So the administration wanted to make it very clear that we are not at war with Islam and every Muslim in the world.

    • popebuck1

When you’re making George W. Bush (and his foreign policy) seem tactful and nuanced… it’s time to just call it quits and go home.

      4:50 pm update:

Rotting Corpse Name: Antonin Gregory Scalia

Number of Maggots: 31 in left ocular orbit, 46 in right ocular orbit

      • Todd20036

Are the right orbital maggots more religious than the left ones?

      • Fyva Prold

Is he still as dead as Generalissimo Franco?

        • another_steve

Scalia is so dead that the maggot community is considering pulling up stakes and moving elsewhere.

  • JaniceInToronto

Someone should let him know he’s completely irrelevant anymore. It’d be kinder just to tell him and get it over with.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

It’s funny that events that don’t affect some people are given no consideration. I hope that this POS is never standing in the shoes of parents whose children have been killed by military weapons because of greed.

    • Did you notice that its all about ‘radical Islam’ and nothing about LGBT folks being massacred? We have been bleached out of our own pogrom.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

Well, they must continue the straight washing to continue their narrative. Also, they don’t want to remind the American public of just how many of their own religious leaders have and continue to call for the deaths of the LGBT community.

        • I hope this next election we manage to wrestle the control of our government out of the hands of the religious. Its time needs to come to an end, and become a curiosity for our future generations, like button hooks, and needing to crank start cars.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

I would compare it more to foot binding myself, which either killed or crippled the girls subjected to it. It’s time to end religion in government though as you said.

          • Friday

Frankly, get it out of government and ‘religion’ won’t attract so many bastards in the first place. (Frankly a lot of the same or similar baddies do as badly in the name of ‘Official atheism’ too… Once again, it’s the authoritarianism.)

      • BearEyes

I noticed that too – damn those pesky homophobic hate crimes!

Cruz can accuse Democrats of grandstanding for partisan political purposes because he knows all about grandstanding for partisan political purposes. He practically wrote the book on it. It’s called Green Eggs and Ham. Which, ironically, is about a stubborn jackass who won’t try something slightly different.

    • Friday

Well, maybe he wrote the ‘Big Golden Book’ of it. Probably just got the Cliff’s Notes, though.

  • Todd

Gee Ted — They’re trying to save lives. That’s a ‘political distraction ??

You closed down the government and wasted billions of dollars reading a Dr. Seuss books.

And Donald Trump beat your Lyin’ ass.

  • bob

How come he doesn’t bitch at trump for stealing his line ? As for the 2nd amendment , how are background checks at shows or a restriction on assault weapons hurting anyone ?

    • Friday

Pretty sure slavery’s off the table, except inasmuch as you can buy guns with credit cards, of course.

Which is why I chose the phrase “willfully stupid”. He chooses to ignore facts and history. For such a smart guy, he can be pretty fucking stupid.

It is anti-gay crime by a self loathing closeted gay man who used the label of “Isis” to divert attention away from himself. Which YOU, Cruz, are responsible for by vilifying gay people.

Oh Rafael Eduardo Cruz (try rolling the Rs, children), your paymasters have spoken, and like the yapping dog you are, you’ve started barking.

Rafael –may I call you Rafa?– it’s quite rich you complaining about “political show[s] on the Senate floor”, when you did exactly that not three years ago, just for kicks. Why don’t you take your “radical Islamic terrorism” fetish to the Senate Cloakroom and make sweet love to it.

Rafa, you’re upset because Chris Murphy got something done while you, Rafa, pissed off all your Republican Caucus. Rafa, are you having some legislative envy?

Too bad you’re trying to compensate for certain deficiencies.

I just got through having to listen to my mother spout all this right wing bullshit which she heard from her right wing sob hubby (he got it from facebook and fox). After repeatedly telling her she was full of shit and correcting her I just want to sit down and have a stiff drink but I don’t have anything in the house. Also, my local Target had nothing out for Pride which annoyed me too.

So, I’m going to sit here, drink my coffee, and try not to pound my head on my desk.

    • Bomer

      And fuck Ted Cruz.

  • ColdDesert

This is sort of shocking. Ted Cruz is actually on the Senate floor.

  • SoCalGal20

  • Michael

Say the magic words: radical Islamic terrorism. And everything will magically be ok with sunshine, pretty musci and bluebirds singing in the background.

    • How’s that working for them? I guess what he really means is that in order for the magic words to work they need to be spoken by a democrat.

  • And everyone predicted that the rethugs would shill for the NRA. We learned in kindergarten that who ever smelt it, delt it. When the rethugs accuse the Democrates of “grandstanding for partisan political purposes’ it’s the rethugs who smell like crap. Hard not to when you’re full of it.

Ted, it’s not the Democrats who have made opposing unrestricted access to weapons of mass murder in the hands of people who are being watched by the FBI for suspected terrorist links a partisan issue.

You’re right that the Democrats shouldn’t be using this tragedy to pursue a partisan agenda – but only because it shouldn’t BE a partisan agenda.

Have your arguments about handguns and whether people should have to pass a test and prove they can handle, aim, and shoot the damn things before they’re allowed to own one without supervision.

But if you honestly can claim that “law-abiding” Americans have any reason to own assault rifles, it’s not the Democrats who are a disgrace to this country and the Constitution.

but them there terrerests ar cummin fur mah fambly!!!

the tranny gubmint is cummin to tek mah guns!

  • Cruz, I believe I speak for everyone where when I say…

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

It’s wrong but I’d like him to say it for real to McCain or Trump or Cruz before he leaves office.

  • James

It’s a damning idictment of American politics and society that a presidential hopeful can say ridiculous, offensive bullshit like this and that people take it seriously.

  • Mark

Keep an eye on this asshole, boyz. He’s plotting to slip into the GOP convention – and emerge the nominee. And as we have already seen – he will do anything to get into the WH.

The RWNJ DOMINIONISTTHREAT has returned. He met discreetly with 20 other ‘leaders’ to plot their convention end run.

Trujmp is gonna get dumped. And Cruz will be there.

    • Friday

Pissed off too many people. If they do that it’ll be one of the young stuffed shirts.

      • Mark

I’m still trying to find more about who all was in attendance. It was only briefly mentioned on the nightly news here. But – it was made clear their intent was to derail the gop convention – and insert ted cruz.

  • Cuberly

Get the garage squeegee and the garden hose. Slimy Ted is back.

  • justme

    Careful teddie..
Is that green egg on your face???

  • JK3

This is a man who is still voting for the guy that insulted his wife and said his dad was involved in the JFK assassination… He’ll say anything to score a political point. Hell, the moment Texas turns purple, he’s going to become a democrat.

  • royinhell

The Cruz filibuster: reading children’s books and spouting nonsense.
The Dem filibuster: stating facts and valid arguments.
    Fuck you, Rafael.

  • Homo Erectus

I’m glad he’ll never be president.

  • Joseph Miceli

So this dipshit evil rodeo clown who has stabbed just about every Senator in the back, called for the roll back of LGBT rights during his joke of a campaign for President and who has cost the country Millions of dollars to pull his own personal political stunts is outraged at the Dems “politicizing” the 2nd Amendment?
Well, the only obvious reply is to do it again tomorrow. Hold up another 15 hours of legislation. Then do it again. AND again. And AGAIN!!!!
The Republitards only THINK they know about obstruction. If Dems and the Senate filibustered constantly then something would have to be done. The Repulbitards couldn’t even pretend they are doing something by naming post offices!!!!

    • Friday

      Actual billions, actually, btw.

      • Joseph Miceli

        Mea Culpa.

  • KQCA

His campaign was backed by the NRA gun lobby and a few gay-hating groups. Guess who his soul belongs to.

  • Did Ted Cruz really wear the penis hat when he read that on the Senate floor???

    • Friday

      That’d be redundant.

      • Gianni

😀 So true! And it’s better known as a “dick head”.

  • Shirleythowe
  • Secure

Senator Asshole, shut the hell up!

  • Gianni

Ted Cruz is a true example that proves that “devolution” is a happening thing. I’d say his mental faculties are ebbing away if he ever had any mental faculties. He has the gall to accuse the Dems of rigid partisan ideology when he is a major part of the horribly inflexible Republican mindset that absolutely refuses to do anything meaningful to try to protect American lives, but will walk through fire to protect the sick American obsession with guns and works like a crazed man to insure that no hater, nutjob, freakoid can be denied a weapon of mass slaughter. All the lives repeatedly lost in mass shootings committed by violent men mean literally nothing to him and his Republican compadres so long as the NRA continues to line their pockets. He considers himself a Christian with high moral values yet does nothing to help alleviate the slaughter. His big shot at the Dems is that they refuse to say, ‘radical Islamic terrorism’. Apparently, semantics is most awful thing he gets out of this terrible loss of life. The predictions of the Christianista are really coming true. We are being punished big time by having to suffer these disgusting, useless, fools in positions of legislative power. The self-righteous jerks like Ted are really the tools of God’s punishment on us all.

  • Gianni

He gripes and mocks a 15 hour filibuster, but didn’t he, himself, conduct a filibuster to shut down the government? That’s another of his noble, republican aims.

  • KQCA

He is another one who has made the USA the laughing stock of the world. THIS is the kind of childish wimp many Americans consider a political leader?

  • Tom Chicago

This is Ted the Turd, who, along with Huckabee and the other troglodyte GOPers delivering their pro-forma statements of “grief” could not bring themselves to use the word “gay.”

  • Sean

More do as I say, not as I do from one of the leaders of the blood thirsty anti-LGBT religious-reich associated with radical “Christian” terrorism.

  • andrew

All citizens are law abiding until they break the law. No citizens need to have military style assault weapons.
