NORTH CAROLINA: Hundreds Of Haters Counter-Protest As State Assembly Gets HB2 Repeal Bill [VIDEO]

At this writing a growing crowd of about 1000 are protesting in support of North Carolina’s anti-LGBT hate law as Democrats introduce a repeal bill in the state Assembly. LGBT activists led by Equality North Carolina and the Human Rights Campaign started the day by delivering petitions calling for the law’s repeal. Local news video reports are below.

All those red shirts; I wonder if they dress that way when they go to Disney World?

    • Johnny Wyeknot

Cultural appropriation at it’s most ironical.

    • perversatile

They are in the heart of ‘Wolf Pack’ territory,
but I don’t think this a very sporty crowd.

    • red shirts at Disney. years ago when i went to gay day @ Disney, we all wore red shirts.

      • D. J.

Our opposition never has original ideas. Self entitled thieves, crooks and liars.

      • John Masters

We were there, and walked in next to a more “traditional” family unit (mother, father, grandparents, kids), and I overheard the red shirt wearing mother, who’d just learned why all the red shirts, was saying, “I’m never wearing red again.” One more hater boycott.

        • I overheard the same. So this family (all wearing red) darted into the first store they could find and purchased new shirts of the not red variety. Brilliant…more money in Disney’s coffers.

          • popebuck1

Disney used to have a stock of non-red T-shirts that they would give out to angry straight people who complained that they had inadvertently worn red to the parks on Gay Day. My friend who worked at the Magic Kingdom said they would give them the remaindered designs they couldn’t otherwise get rid of. But they stopped doing it – not so much because the haters were full of shit, but because Disney figured out people were complaining just to get free shirts.

    • Bob Conti

Or are crewmen on the Enterprise.

      • Bad Tom

Red shirt == disposable phaser fodder.

        • TheManicMechanic

Hah, I was gonna say, so many redshirts, not enough phasers.

          • Todd20036

            I should have read down.

    • Todd20036

I think it means they’re about to get killed, probably in some horrible accident or war or alien abduction.

At least, that is what usually happens to such people in Star Trek.

  • Tigernan Quinn

I would not have picked NC as the battleground, not when Texas is sitting right here being as evil as possible. Good to see the fight.

    • Chucktech

We expect this crap from Texas. North Carolina should be above that.

    • perversatile

-the weather is nicer in North Carolina

      • Blake Jordan

Anything run by rethuglicans is above nothing…

      • Beagle

Just don’t wear contacts during pollen season. Trust me on this.

        • perversatile

Leaving house -lock front door, Shit! Pollen on hands -not much -wipe hands on pants. Go to mail box -open it -hands covered in yellow crud. Go inside -wash hands. Leave house again. Lock front door using paper towel you dried your hands with. Go to car -open car door trying to use balled up slightly yellow, damp paper towel -does not work.
In car using eye glass wipes to clean hands, and some how, even though you constantly tell yourself ”DON’T TOUCH YOUR DAMN EYES” you’ve manage to do just that. Go inside -tape the windows shut. Don’t leave the house til September. Is that what you mean? πŸ˜€

          • Beagle

When I lived in NC, I wore contacts. If it hadn’t rained in the past 24 hours or so during pollen season, I had to wear sunglasses as well. Otherwise, it felt like needles stabbing my eyeballs. First time I ever had a problem during pollen season.

There were over 100 anti-gay bills here in TX last session, but none passed. However they’re chomping at the bit to get into the fray again next year!

    Don’t these people have jobs?

    • Looks like a lot of them are retired. Or should be.

      • Larry Gist

        You spelled “retarded” wrong.

        • LOL-N,R!! (Laughed Out Loud – No, Really!!)

          • Larry Gist

I’m sorry but I have a nephew that is developmentally disabled and he has more sympathy than these people…

    • oikos

Sucking at the teat of govt, while opposing ‘big gubmint overreach and soshalism.’

    • shellback

More importantly, shouldn’t those children be in school. Oops. North Carolina – my bad.

      • clay

        home “schooling”

        • shellback

That’s like looking at a photo of an amusement park, and believing you are actually there.

        • Sk3ptic

I read that as “home schlonging.” Probably not that far off base either.

    • Blake Jordan

      Not the old, welfare queens…

    • D. J.

Grifters, GOP, and retired people that want “smaller gov’t” but keep hands off of social security and Medicare, but pass all the Pro-Christianist, anti-poor and anti-LGBTI legislation that’s wanted by CHRISIS.
      Hypocrites for short.

  • Frank Elliott

Why does the anti-gay crowd always look like extras from an H P Lovecraft movie?

    • Larry Gist

      THANK YOU!!!!

  • Larry Gist

Remember the rallying cry of the counter-culture back in the 1960’s “Don’t trust anyone over 30”? Well I think my new rallying cry is going to be “don’t trust a man in a suit with a haircut like that.”

  • Looks like a lot of the haters brought chairs. Nothing makes a counter-protest look wimpier than chairs.

    • Larry Gist

Gotta have someplace to park those ample rears. Jesus CHRIST now I know why they require their women folk to wear skirts!

      • LOL! (I mean ewwwww!)

      • oikos

They should have to wear burqas as well.

        • Bob Conti

Which, size wise, can double as a four-person tent.

          • NancyP

Only if the four people are really friendly….

          • rusty57

Which may help explain Kim Davis and her three husbands.

      MURRIKKKA! oh my!

  • KnownDonorDad

This has become a bigger political football than gay marriage. Just as none of these people had to interact with same-sex couples and had no awareness of rights and privileges denied to people, none of these people have thought through the consequences of the bill, like bearded transmen in women’s rooms, and virtually none of them are bakers or florists, although I’m sure they like the idea of humiliating gay people through turning them down for goods and services. They just know that their “team” is out protesting, and they feel compelled to join.

    • John Masters

Of course they haven’t though it through. Betcha you couldn’t find 10 people there who have actually read the bill, even though it is only 8 pages. Think about who these people are…about 99.8% Christians, who are used to have a Pastor tell him how they are supposed to feel about any topic. And so long as the NCGA own those evangelical pastors, and provide them a target for their hate(so they and their congregations can feel superior), they will tell their parishioners to go along, and you can bet that nearly all of these legislators will get re-elected.

      • KnownDonorDad

Indeed. I think we as a country still haven’t quite appreciated what a pernicious influence Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority were when they politicized evangelicalism.

        • John Masters

And Falwell was smarter he gets credit. It’s not just in the political realm. These folks are basically indoctrinated from birth that their minister is “the authority.” So, if you can get ministers telling people, “this is how it is,” then that is how it is…whether biblical, religious, secular, or political. In the evangelical community…if the pastor says it, it is, quite literally, gospel.

      • Tor

They’ve been told that a trans-person is a big, burly man who decides to wear a dress on any given day, intending to harass women and girls in the bathroom – and they believe it. The funny thing they overlook, is that that man is going to be heterosexual.

        • marshlc

They don’t believe that there is such a thing as a trans person. They think it’s just one of those weirdos trying to rebel, or look “cool”.

Even though most of them are well old enough to know better, their ideas on the human experience were formed in junior high school, and haven’t changed since. In their minds, LGBT folks aren’t really LGBT, they’re just showing off.

  • Henri205

Is it at all surprising that some right wing religious BS gets lots of attendance in North Carolina? The issue isn’t how many people show up or not (although it’s funny when they don’t). The issue is whether civil and human rights should be determined through a vote from the mob.

  • MikeBx2

If you took a poll, most of those people would say white Jesus is going to return soon anyway, so why should they care how much they hurt the economy of NC? Scary, scary people.

    • djcoastermark

Which is why it has always puzzled me as to why they give a hoot about anyone LGBT ? If it’s going to be the Rupture or A poppy lips soon, why bother with all the hate?

      • RJ Bone

All of that hate they generate has to be directed somewhere. If it isn’t, their flock will turn against them once they figure out that the people over them are just grifters… We are a distraction for those bastards so they can continue to fleece (pun intended) the people they’ve brainwashed.

    Have another nip good Rev.

How many kids are missing school for this? Oh, yeah. They’re home skooled. Never mind.

  • Larry in Oklahoma

What I see in the pictures and videos are ALL WHITE PEOPLE who are scared that they are gonna become a minority.

Watch it, suckers. You already are!!

  • Duane Dimitrov

    This is the “silent majority”?

    Is this the “new math”?

  • Mark

I 100% support the people’s right to protest. But I have to wonder how many of those folks would be there if a preacher or church wasn’t involved? Once again, their “moral” bullshit trumps other’s civil rights….and this shit has gotta stop. It’s bad enough that MY tax money goes to install sidewalks, sewer, roads, etc but then to have them turn-around and say they’re better?

Fuck them. Repeal their tax free grifting heaven – and let the hell of real life charity munch on their asses.

So where were the counter protestors? Bad optics again.

The Pastor in the second video is same church as the pastor who did this anti gay rant:

Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville after video of a pastor’s controversial sermon last week went viral on the Internet, prompting hate mail and death threats against the church.

In a sermon designed to encourage the congregation to vote in favor of Amendment One, Rev. Sean Harris told fathers to “crack that wrist” and “give him a good punch” if their sons start acting effeminate.

We just gotta hit ’em harder in their pocketbooks, continue shunning them economically, continue supporting artists and performers who are shunning them by refusing to play in North Carolina.

  • They want to show their faces, let them. Post their pictures online, let the world see the face of hatred and ignorance.

Such a big crowd, I hope they had some porta-loos for the occasion. Genital checking guards included, obviously.
