Stop Hillary PAC Stoops To Appalling Low In Attack Ad That Aired During Democratic Debate [VIDEO]

During last night’s Democratic debate viewers in some markets were subjected to one of the most repulsive attack ads imaginable. Paid for by Stop Hillary PAC, the ad features photographs of the four Americans killed in Benghazi as an announcer puts words in the mouths of the murdered men as if he were each of them. Democrats are furious. Via the Associated Press:

Democrats on the House Benghazi committee condemned the ad Wednesday and said Stevens’ image was used without his family’s permission. Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the senior Democrat on the panel, called the ad offensive and shameful. He and other Democrats urged the panel’s chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., to use his influence to get the ad removed immediately. Dan Backer, treasurer of the anti-Clinton group, said the ad was designed to “convey as powerful a message as possible” about the tragedy and Clinton’s possible role in it. “Four Americans died. They didn’t have to, but they did,” Backer said. Jamal Ware, a spokesman for Gowdy, said the ad does not mention either the Benghazi committee or Gowdy, and the committee played no role in the ad. “The gratuitous demand by Ranking Member Cummings is further proof Democrats do not care about investigating Benghazi, only playing politics like the makers of that ad,” Ware said.

I try not to. If I do I can’t sleep at night. 🙁

    They’re so desperate. Pathetic.

When do we get to ask Bush about the PDB titled Obama determined to strike within the U.S. – Can we have the nearly 3000 dead voiced over asking that?

I think you mean Osama. But I think Obama is supposed to attack Texas…right?

The capital is better without bush.

          • Glen

            Everything is better without bush.

          • What? Depends on what kind of bush we are talking about.
Bush/Shrub definitely needs to be capitalized so there is no confusing with the fun kind of bush.
I would add an illustrative photo but the only ones I have are x-rated

  • Herald

Of course they never mention who voted against the needed funds for State Dept. security.
Where was their anger for all those who died under Bush?

    • Chris H.

The Wingnut response for those killed under w is they were not American Citizens and/or were just “contractors”.

Amazing they used Ambassador Stevens in this vile ad.
Because, you know, he was gay.
Gay people are only human when it’s convenient to the right wing. And even then, it must never be mentioned.

          • Octavio

Much as I like the VP, his namby pamby “Oh, I don’t know. I need to heal” bullshit has pretty much convinced me he’d better just stay the fuck away from trying to run for POTUS.

          • Dramphooey

I don’t believe that was what Biden was doing; he is no Cuomo from back in the 80s. I think he was only going to jump in if Clinton crumbled. The fact is she stumbled out of the gate. However, she has corrected herself. I believe Biden was only considering a run if Clinton somehow went arse over tit.

  • delk

“The gratuitous demand by Ranking Member Cummings is further proof Democrats do not care about investigating Benghazi, only playing politics like the makers of that ad,” Ware said, while playing politics as well.

  • teedofftaxpayer

So does that mean if a Senator or Congressman is nominated on the Republican side then Hillary’s campaign (or Bernie’s) can run an ad showing those who have been killed by assault weapon that the Senator or Congressman voted against?

    • Silver Badger

No. They both have too much class to stoop that low.

  • JustDucky

So this means they’re totally cool with the Democratic party politicizing shootings to “convey as powerful a message as possible” about the tragedies and the Republican party’s role in them. Right? After all, WAY more than “four American children died. They didn’t have to, but they did.”

  • Ninja0980

I live in CNY near Syracuse and if you go up to the Dome for a game, you will walk by the memorial for the Pan Am Flight 103 plane bombing, which killed 270 people including 35 Syracuse Unversity Students who had been studying abroad.
By the time the bombing happened, the State Department under St. Ronnie and VP George Bush Sr had warnings that terrorists were going to target passenger planes at Christmas time.
Thus, State Department employees were not on those kinds of planes because they shared warnings with people that worked for them.
They decided not to share that information with the public or airports in other countries.
    Where was the outrage then?
Where was the outrage when 241 marines were killed on St. Ronnie’s watch and we simply got the hell out of there and never brought the perps to justice?
And of course, let’s not forget 9/11 on George W’s watch there were numerous bombings of embassies with deaths and not a peep from Republicans.
Republicans don’t care about the four men who died in Benghanzi and never will.
This is all about hurting Hillary and nothing more.

    • Herald

  • DaddyRay

And yet Republicans accuse President Obama of politicizing the school shootings

    • billbear1961

This is a very important point to throw in their fat, ugly faces!

    • GC

From President Obama’s statement after the Umpqua Community College shooting:

And, of course, what’s also routine is that somebody, somewhere will comment and say, Obama politicized this issue. Well, this is something we should politicize. It is relevant to our common life together, to the body politic. I would ask news organizations — because I won’t put these facts forward — have news organizations tally up the number of Americans who’ve been killed through terrorist attacks over the last decade and the number of Americans who’ve been killed by gun violence, and post those side-by-side on your news reports. This won’t be information coming from me; it will be coming from you. We spend over a trillion dollars, and pass countless laws, and devote entire agencies to preventing terrorist attacks on our soil, and rightfully so. And yet, we have a Congress that explicitly blocks us from even collecting data on how we could potentially reduce gun deaths. How can that be?

This is a political choice that we make to allow this to happen every few months in America. We collectively are answerable to those families who lose their loved ones because of our inaction. When Americans are killed in mine disasters, we work to make mines safer. When Americans are killed in floods and hurricanes, we make communities safer. When roads are unsafe, we fix them to reduce auto fatalities. We have seatbelt laws because we know it saves lives. So the notion that gun violence is somehow different, that our freedom and our Constitution prohibits any modest regulation of how we use a deadly weapon, when there are law-abiding gun owners all across the country who could hunt and protect their families and do everything they do under such regulations doesn’t make sense.

So, tonight, as those of us who are lucky enough to hug our kids a little closer are thinking about the families who aren’t so fortunate, I’d ask the American people to think about how they can get our government to change these laws, and to save lives, and to let young people grow up. And that will require a change of politics on this issue. And it will require that the American people, individually, whether you are a Democrat or a Republican or an independent, when you decide to vote for somebody, are making a determination as to whether this cause of continuing death for innocent people should be a relevant factor in your decision. If you think this is a problem, then you should expect your elected officials to reflect your views.

And I would particularly ask America’s gun owners — who are using those guns properly, safely, to hunt, for sport, for protecting their families — to think about whether your views are properly being represented by the organization that suggests it’s speaking for you.

      (Bolding is mine.)

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

    • Political pornography.

  • Octavio

Yup. That’s definitely the most disgusting thing except maybe some anti Vietnam stuff in the late 60s and early 70s that showed burning children running towards a news camera and away from mortar fire. Still, it’s quite obvious the Republican’ts have nothing but shit to offer the US public. I look forward to seeing their alien lizard overlords melt in agonizing fire.

  • DaddyRay

I don’t know about anybody else but last nights debate was very encouraging – I was so tired of all of the pundits painting the narrative. I finally fell like it is GAME ON

    • I agree, however what worries me are the people I’m talking to today who are prepared to NOT vote if their dem candidate doesn’t get the nomination. The election in 2010 had historically low turnout. Look how that ended. Low turnout = GOP win.

      • GC

The worst of the Democrats will be far, far better than any of the Rethuglicans.

If Republicans are dumb enough to watch Fox News, and love Trump, and fall for baseless attack ads like this, why can’t Democrats control these same Fox News watchers? Can’t we create some demagogue who appeals to their basest emotions– fear, anger, guns and boobs? Come on, it can’t be that hard. These people are so, so exquisitely impressionable and so so dumb.

    • I think someone has. He’s named Trump. I’ve been saying all along Trump is so far out there this has to be the biggest Punk’d of all time.

  • BobSF_94117

What we do not seem to understand, and the GOP understands all too well, is that the 2016 election is pivotal. They will do anything and everything to win.

    • DaddyRay

Yet I will never advocate for utilizing similar tactics
Someone has to be the adults

      • BobSF_94117

I don’t know. I really, really don’t want to spend my final decades as a sputtering, outraged adult who’s powerless and abused.

        • DaddyRay

Agreed but while these tactics work with their base I think if our side did it the ads would have the opposite effect because we actually have morals

          • BobSF_94117

We also lack the discipline. 🙂

        • Bob, you hit the nail on the head. Mr. Man and I were just talking about this and saying the very same thing. I can’t even begin to explain to people how pivotal this election is.

          • meh. they’re all “pivotal” in some way or another.

and i think you guys are missing the point here. why do liberal blogs exist?

b/c years ago, the media stopped reporting facts if they favored a liberal position. and began to engage in outright propaganda for the right and corporations.

it’s nice to fantasize about a truly inquisitive and fact-seeking media covering this election. but that’s not going to happen. it’s also nice to fantasize about a truly aggressive and critical of the right democratic party. unless people like Bernie are put in charge, that won’t happen either.

          • billbear1961

Well, then, what do we DO?

Please explain to me how a genuine democracy can survive if truth and facts are routinely ignored, or laughed at, spat on and chucked out the window?

We have come so far under Obama and with fair courts that have put the Constitution FIRST.

If the GOP takes full control of the federal government in January 2017, that will CHANGE.

Look at the FOUL maniacs who’ll be in charge–imagine what vileness they’ll STACK the courts with!!

We could lose SCOTUS, with it packed with SCUM like Scalia, for a GENERATION.

They’ll “interpret” the Constitution in a way that will permit the GOP to take this nation back a CENTURY.

This republic WILL become a FASCIST state.

WHO will STOP them–an electorate where 2 out of 3 didn’t even bother to vote in the midterms?!

This election is a matter of life or death for our democracy, a matter of life or death for the rights of MILLIONS!!

      • billbear1961

We can savage them simply by telling the TRUTH about what they get up to, about what they ARE responsible for, Daddy R.

THAT is the big difference between us and them!

Make ads that show how their reckless deregulation led to the 2008 meltdown!

Make ads that show how they make it impossible to do ANYTHING about the gun massacres–they won’t even allow background checks to become mandatory across the nation, when 80% or more of the electorate wants them!

Make ads that show they cut funding for security for our embassies, and that THIS is one of the principal reasons Benghazi happened!!

Make ads that show how the GOP House altered the texts of White House emails to make the Obama Administration look guilty of something in the Benghazi affair, but weren’t able to use them because they got CAUGHT!! (Only ONE reporter tried to make an issue of their LYING, but the story went nowhere–WHY?!)

Make ads that show they’re gunning for the ACA, and that they did NOTHING to help the nation recover from the recession that was caused by their policies under W!

        I’ve just scratched the surface!

        Go for their political jugulars!!

        SAVAGE THEM with the TRUTH!!

Either we stop them in the election next year, or this nation starts down the road to FASCISM.

        It is THAT serious!!

Of course, I don’t know Ms. Commanday, but my fantasy is that she might act in a way Hillary or another Democratic politician can’t. Publicly get really, really angry and give interviews to as many news outlets as will have her. It also might be a step in mourning for her. I know something about mourning, having lost my brother and 1st cousin (like a sister) suddenly and tragically.

What’s the thinking behind running this ad during the Dem debate? This is the sort of ad you might run in print form on WND or on radio during Limbaugh or Michael Savage. By contrast, the Dem primary debate viewership is overwhelmingly Democrats and Dem-leaning independents. This sort of ad is the least likely to have an impact on them, other than to generate backlash support for Hillary.

Their name is really the “Stop Hillary PAC”? I snort laughed for about 5 minutes.

I want Hillary and Bernie to work out their differences and come together at the convention. I don’t care who’s on top, though age-wise it makes more sense to have Bernie as President now and Hillary in 8 years. But politics isn’t really about fairness, and he did call himself a Democratic Socialist, blah blah blah.

  • There’s a lot in that ad to complain about. But the one part that still mystifies me, the one thing that I am just perplexed about over the whole Benghazi freakout on the right: WHAT is it about the initial reports of an “internet video” that sticks in their craw? Why is this one small element from the earliest days after the tragedy STILL brought up to this day? I hate to say it (but this is actually the context Hillary Clinton used it in), “what difference, at this point, does it make?”
