Franklin Graham: Pray For Sotomayor

Franklin Graham has posted the seventh in his Twitter series of daily
anti-gay marriage prayers for members of the Supreme Court. Still to
come: Breyer and Thomas.

  • Gustav2

Pray little Franklin will know the Constitution doesn’t give a damn about his religion.

  • Doug105

  • bryan

Religious businessmen like Graham, want payers, not prayers : They have books to sell and private jets to finance. They create fear and then feed off it. No wonder their churches are emptying…

    • Mark

Well, as the middle class gets decimated – so do the no-tax expense accounts. The poor can’t dibby up for a Lear Jet, hence these holy high rollers are unconcerned with the hungry, the ill, the poor…..

  • bkmn

What? He didn’t put out this prayer in Spanish for Justice Sotomayor?

    • Rocketeer500

Frankie isn’t the racist bigoted asshole you think he is.

      • sherman

Which one is he then? They all sound alike.

      • LovesIrony

homophobic bigoted asshole that he is

  • ErikDC

Meanwhile, the rest of us are praying Franklin Graham shuts up soon.

  • Mark

Frankie, why do you not pray for those who are hungry, who are ill, who are homeless, who are facing insurmountable difficulties in their lives, as your JC told you to in the buy-bull? Hhhhmmmm oh yeah, cuz it’s way more important to deny EQUAL CIVIL RIGHTS, isn’t bubba???

    • LovesIrony

cause he hates gays more than he loves the homeless

  • shellback

Pray in private as your gawd commands.

    • Mark

Nah, what’s the fun in that and not fleecing the sheeple???

      • shellback

Because a true, zombie-eating xtian must do as gawd commands, unless you don’t feel like it.

  • delk

Pray she will know our society can’t stand…

    Insert Thomas Peters joke here.

    • Oh, you’re going to catholic hell for that one.

      • Ed Burrow

hey, I’ve been to that bar!

  • Just another evangelical horcrux.

  • Dolly Varden

    God has standards? Who knew?

  • JJS_prime

Dear god, Frankie Graham seems misguided about the constitution. Please smack him alongside the head so he understands the difference between it and the bible.

  • oikos
  • Well, recent poll suggests 60% favour marriage equality and I’d bet of the remaining 40%, a big chunk of them don’t really care all that much either way. But ok, “society”. Got it. Wait, didn’t conservative deity Maggie Thatcher tell us that there’s no such thing as “society”? What to do?

    • Queequeg

Exactly right. In that 40% there are probably a large number of people who give the issue no thought at all, and, if asked directly, I suspect most would say “sure, why not?”.

      • That’s the way it was in Canada. You had the usual nonsense from a very loud, very small group of nutjobs, a large segment of the population who were enthusiastic and supportive and the rest gave it a shrug, live and let live.

        • Queequeg

Yes, I think it is human nature not to be concerned about things that don’t directly impact you, unless you are a right wing nut job, like Franklin Graham.

  • VodkaAndPolitics

I can’t help but feel he’s getting lazy with these prayer tweets.

  • People4Humanity

    I blame Old-Timers for forgetting:
Is it Sotomayor or Kagan who is a confirmed Lezbiterian?

    • The Professor

I think it is Kagan, but not sure it has been actually confirmed.

      • Ed Burrow

it doesn’t really matter, now does it? 🙂

        • People4Humanity

No, not at all. It’s just that Franklin addresses his Tweets to @SCOTUS, so at least some of them will read his “prayers.” Pretty sure — even though it may be ‘unconfirmed’ to us — the justices all likely know. So, they ought to find his words repugnant.

        • Queequeg

      • Kissmagrits

I’m quite sure a number of “kinky bits” lurk beneath the black robes of this august body.

Read the senate testimony from Thomas v. Anita Hill. Also, you may find the life of the late William O. Douglas pretty fascinating.

  • The Professor

    Yea. That’ll work.

  • Mark

    and again…

93 bottles of beer on the wall, 93 bottles of beer….

  • ETownCanuck

    Nothing fails like prayer.

  • Gest2016

And Franklin I’ll pray they find a cure for sociopathy someday.

  • Kissmagrits

I amazes me when people wait with bated breath to hear the laundry list of what a fire-breathin’ evangelist is “against”. But, let that same preacher come down on the side of social justice – and they call him out for apostasy. Just cain’t win in God’s kingdom anymore.

  • This means “Sorry Reverend Graham, I respect your opinion but we have a fundamental right to disagree” where Justice Sotomayor comes from in the Bronx. People from the Bronx are ALWAYS polite to right-wing Southern Baptist Preachers who pray for them in public.

    • Macbill

      Great tourist advice.

  • Mark

’bout the only ‘standards’ gawd has is the standard group of standard assholes thinking they know what gawd thinks

  • KenDC

    Typo in the headline, Joe.

    • People4Humanity

    • Queequeg

You mean that Franklin Graham “preys” rather than “prays”? Yes, he did spell the name wrong.

  • Macbill

Your God doesn’t care enough to answer. That’s how much he respects you and your prayers.

  • Queequeg

It occurs to me that people, generally, try to be decent and kind to others. These alleged Christians do nothing of the sort. Don’t help the disadvantaged, just rake in money from the gullible and pray that hate rules the day at the Supreme Court. No wonder people are leaving organized religion in droves.

  • DaveMiller135

I was never comfortable with US leaders consulting with Billy Graham, but I did have the feeling that he meant well. Certainly he was the last televangelist you could say that about. His son is just a yutz, and with every action, every choice, he shames his father’s legacy.

    • BaddogLtd

Billy Graham was a two faced anti-semite who managed to fool a large portion of the population until a 1972 taped conversation with Richard Nixon was released.

      • DaveMiller135

I suppose, “consulted with Nixon” could have been my clue.

    • j.martindale

Nope. He was a bigot, too.

    • Stev84

He was just drunk on power and only interested in himself.

  • e’ville_globeguy

Franklin Graham seems misguided about the U.S. Constitution. Our country can’t stand if we reject the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND, which is the Constitution.

  • bambinoitaliano

Franklin go fly a kite during thunderstorm, god has a message waiting for you.

  • octobercountry

So, say we get marriage equality next month…. I’m wondering how all the right-wing Christians will explain the fact that all their prayers were ignored.

  • StSean

Coming soon to a Church near you: God-approved Rape-to-Marriage panels!

  • DonnaLee

    This guy is relevant why?

    • People4Humanity

Franklin sits on top of a $440M
pile of cash that renews annually.

  • Clive Johnson

Graham, I urge you to call for all your followers to do nothing except engage in prayer. Stop donations, stop voting, just pray. Prayer can move mountains, reportedly. Isn’t it about time you stopped disbelieving the power of your god and left everything up to him through prayer?

  • franklinb23

Franklin Graham, then what do we do about that nettlesome establishment clause of the Constitution which prohibits establishing a religion? In fact, blasphemy, heresy and idolatry are practically enshrined as a “right” in this nation.

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme
  • JCF

If there’s anything a “Wise Latina” does NOT need, it’s the imprecations of Franklin Graham…
