There was an official opening ceremony today even though the rest of the day has been canceled. GOP officials from several Gulf states have either returned or decided to stay at home to deal with storm preparations.

Donald Trump’s highly-publicized plan to “fire” an onstage Obama impersonator has been canceled due to the wrath of God.

The Raging Grannies group has parked their Larks and lawn chairs near the Tampa convention center. Meanwhile a small Occupy contingent is preparing to “march on the RNC.” One Occupy member was arrested yesterday for carrying a machete, generating outrage from Twitter members who would surely be carrying machine guns were it allowed. Watch RNC chairman Reince Preibus squirm as MSNBC host Chris Matthews launches an epic rant denouncing the GOP for “playing the race card” and claiming that Obama wants to turn America into “another Europe.” Classic. The best bits are at the beginning and the end.

Attendees at the Republican convention are shocked about the food prices and have taken their outrage to Twitter. Obviously none of them have dined in an airport. I expect we’ll see similar prices in Charlotte.
