HomoQuotable – Frank Bruni

“A kiss is nothing. On the sidewalks, in the park, I see one every few minutes, a real kiss, lip to lip. It barely registers. It’s as unremarkable as a car horn in traffic, as an umbrella in rain. And yet a kiss is everything. A kiss can stop the world. The football player Michael Sam recently demonstrated as much. …

BBC: Do We Still Need Gay Bars?

Same-sex marriage has been legal in England and Wales for only four days and already the BBC has published a trend piece on whether gay bars are destined to fade into history. NYT On The Decline Of The “H” Word

The New York Times yesterday explored the vanishing use of the word “homosexual” by almost everybody except anti-gay groups. Consider the following phrases: homosexual community, homosexual activist, homosexual marriage. Substitute the word “gay” in any of those cases, and the terms suddenly become far less loaded, so that the ring of disapproval and judgment evaporates. Some gay rights advocates have …

Meet Alabama’s Prancing Elites

JMG reader Ed tips us to this Jezebel post about Alabama’s all-male cheerleading squad, the Prancing Elites.  I believe the kids would say, “WERK!”  Many more clips can be found on their Facebook page, where they note that NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal recently tweeted out a link saying, “These dudes B jammin.”  I think the music is by sissy bounce …

Watching The Defectives

Gentle readers, I’m rerunning my annual Pride rant for the ninth year. I wrote this post in 2005 a couple of days after attending Pride here in NYC. In the following years I’ve reposted it in advance of the day in the hope of encouraging you to attend. This year it appears a week early because of a widely circulated …

And as they’re walking back to the limo everyone starts to applaud, and rightly …

HomoQuotable – Bret Easton Ellis

“Was I the only gay man of a certain demo who experienced a flicker of annoyance in the way the media treated Jason Collins as some kind of baby panda who needed to be honored and praised and consoled and—yes—infantilized by his coming out on the cover of Sports Illustrated? Within the tyrannical homophobia of the sports world, that any …
