For When The Escalator Is Too Slow

The entrance to a subway station in Berlin has been outfitted with a temporary slide, much to the delight and puzzlement of commuters. Man, I’d love to see this next to that horrid six-story monster at Lex and 53rd. (Or at DC’s Dupont Circle.) But you know, America. Lawsuits. The Berlin installation is a promotion for Volkswagen.

Catholic Church officials in Germany set up an abuse hotline for parishioners wishing to report their priests. The line “melted down” on the first day with thousands of calls. Controversy At Gay Holocaust Memorial

Berlin’s memorial to gay victims of the Holocaust is an austere concrete block with a small window that displays a “never-ending” video loop of two men kissing. Installed in 2008, original plans for the display called for the gender to the two people in the video to change every two years. But now that it’s almost time for the switch …

German Diocese Suspends Pedophile Priest Once Protected By Pope Palpatine

Back when Pope Palpatine was the mere Archbishop of Munich, he transferred a pedophile priest to another assignment, presumably to cover up the crime. In the new location, the pervy priest molested again. Yesterday, he was finally suspended amid charges of the Pope’s complicity in the widening German child molestation scandal. According to the Archdioceses of Munich and Freising, the …

Photo Of The Day

Right at takeoff, a flock of 200 starlings got sucked into the engine of a Germania Airlines flight from Dusseldorf to Kosovo. The plane circled and landed safely. Hitchcockian, eh? Lucky for them, it wasn’t 200 Canada geese. (Tipped by JMG reader Barry in Bonn)

80’s Flashback

Kraftwerk, Numbers, 1981. Arguably the most influential electronic act in history, it was 1981’s Numbers that brought Germany’s Kraftwerk to mass notice in the U.S. after several critically raved (but low selling) albums in the 70s. The track was an immediate smash with break dancers and has been sampled uncountable times. You can finder snippets of Numbers in Soulsonic Force’s …
