80’s Flashback

Bronski Beat, Why, 1984. This song seems especially appropriate for this weekend. Contempt in your eyes as I turn to kiss his lips. Broken I lie, all my feelings denied. Blood on your fist. Can you tell me why? You in your false securities. Tear up my life, condemning me. Name me an illness, call me a sin. Never feel …

Choreographer Merce Cunningham, 90

Famed choreographer Merce Cunningham, the longtime partner of the late minimalist composer John Cage, has died in NYC at the age of 90. A compelling dancer himself, Cunningham created a body of work that questioned the traditional premises of dancing, providing unique answers that were both baffling and beautiful. “What interests me is movement,” Cunningham said in a 2005 interview …

HomoQuotable – Darren Hayes

“Being gay is somehow an indulgent choice? It infuriates me. You’re either Graham Norton or George Michael getting arrested in parks and I’m neither of those things. I think it appeals to the lowest common denominator that basically there are two types of gay men, the slut, or there’s the straight acting guy. Neither of these things have anything to …

Adam Lambert gives 20/20 fairly standard answers to the coming out questions. He adds, “I would never give myself the label bisexual, but bi-curious? Yeah. I’ve been known to make out with girls from time to time. It’s fun. And who knows? Maybe it’ll go further some day. Who’s the lucky woman?”

HomoQuotable – Adam Lambert

“I was like, ‘Oh, (bleep), they put me with the cute guy’, Distracting! He’s the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type — except that he has a wife. I mean, he’s open-minded and liberal, but he’s definitely 100 percent straight. “Going into Idol, I assumed, ‘OK, …

America Says “No Homo”

UPDATE: Well…shit. That was disappointing. Tonight’s American Idol final isn’t slated to end until about 10:15pm EST, so no update here until at least 1:15am Gotham time. Even if you have no interest in the competition, you must allow that the pitting of a devout Christian folk singer against a glam, guylinered and GAY rocker is a fascinating window onto …

O’Reilly: Will Christians Vote Out Adam Lambert On Tonight’s American Idol Final?

Fox’s Bill O’Reilly thinks that a Christian voting block may hurt Adam Lambert’s chances in tonight’s American Idol final because he is gay. Interestingly, last week when Christianist site World Net Daily published an editorial on the same issue, the author seemed to favor Adam Lambert. Debbie Egan, from North Carolina, however, admits that faith does factor into her voting, …

Eurovision – Germany’s Alex Swings Oscar Sings

Germany’s Eurovision entry is a Ricky Martin-ish big band/pop mashup featuring an orchestra led by German house DJ Alex Christensen. After all, Celine Dion won for Switzerland in 1988.
