Sullivan On The Growth Of Atheism

Andrew Sullivan today on Face The Nation: “What has happened since 1960 is that organized groups, like the Southern Baptist Council and other religious groups, have in fact become self-consciously political. They have become fused with one political party, the Republican Party — a party that is now defined by a particular religious faith, evangelicalism or far-right Catholic hierarchy. And …

The Jesus Myth

John Blake writes for CNN: Those who argue against Jesus’ existence make some of these points: 1) The uncanny parallels between pagan stories in the ancient world and the stories of Jesus. 2) No credible sources outside the Bible say Jesus existed. 3) The Apostle Paul never referred to a historical Jesus. Price, author of “Deconstructing Jesus,” says the first-century …

Quote Of The Day – Adam Savage

“I have concluded through careful, empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me. Keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less then I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think and they …

Glen Copple, an associate pastor at Northside Christian Church in Lakeland, said Saturday’s symbolic cleanup of holy oil by the Humanists of Florida was a “ludicrous” event that solely sought publicity. “I find it …

Quote Of The Day – Bill Donohue

“Never has there been a more vicious anti-Catholic advertisement in a prominent American newspaper than the one in today’s New York Times by Freedom From Religion Foundation. The demonization of Catholicism is palpable. [snip] Not a single Catholic who reads this ad will be impelled to leave the Church. That is not the issue (Catholicism, unlike many other religions, is …

The Freedom From Religion Foundation asks: “Can’t you see how misplaced your loyalty is after two decades of sex scandals involving preying priests, church complicity, collusion and cover-up going all way to the top? Apparently, you’re like the battered woman who, after being beaten down every Sunday, feels she has no other place to go. There’s a more welcoming home …
